			Guiding Light Update

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

We open with the new Eleni, Jennifer Roselle (spelling not guaranteed) [who
I personally think is an improvement over that other actress, but is no
Melina, so far]. She and Frank discuss the divorce of Buzz and Nadine. Frank
isn't happy. He thinks their timing stinks. Lucy agrees. Eleni says that it
was coming and it's for the best. Mrs. Popov throws in her two cents: it's
about time. The others tell her to mind her own business.

Buzz and Nadine, meanwhile, are in the back room. He rubs her back and
they discuss their situation. "Do you really love me?" Nadine asks. Definitely.
Always. Her too. But she wants the divorce. But not like Ross made it sound.
Not cold and unfeeling and simple. "How can we end it like that?"

Matt, Shane, and Mara at Lewis':

The kids want to see Peter (who is recovering from his hospital visit).
Matt won't let them, and they kind of resent it. (Who is this guy?) But he
handles it well, and sends them off to school. Vanessa and Henry come in, and
the phone rings. Henry answers. It's Dinah. She wants to see Henry. Alone.
Vanessa asks daddy to invite her over for breakfast. Henry hems and haws.

Ross and Blake at the Marler's:

The alarm rings. Blake yells for someone to shut it off. Ross comes
in the room, turns it off, hurts himself, and yells at the clock. They
squabble over Dinah. She says he is obstinant and blinded by guilt. Ross
says that that isn't true. Blake readies the clock for a good blow to the
temple.

Nadine and Buzz:

Nadine asks Buzz to call her a "faithful dog" again, so she can
regain her desire to divorce him. He doesn't. They discuss and old car they
had, and she says that after 25 years of living and loving they can't
just dump the car. Buzz says he has a solution.

Vanessa and Henry, etc.:

Henry attempts to get Dinah to come to the house, but no go. She says
she misses him, and wants to see him alone. Henry finally accepts, and hangs
up. Vanessa tries to put on a happy face, and Matt gives her a sideways glance.
Henry goes, and Vanessa laments: "Why is she doing this?" Matt says that
she should just take it easy. This infuriates Vanessa. He says that Dinah
isn't worth fighting about, and naturally, this only infuriates her more.

Ross and Blake:

Blake says she can be calm and rational about Dinah. It's just the
money. And the cigarettes (which smell like camel dung). And the fender on
her car. And then there are the late hours and the general sloppiness. But
she says it's okay. She knows no one is perfect. Dinah will only be around
for a week, and she can take it for a week. Ross didn't know about the fender,
but he says that he is making up for lost time. Having his daughter around
is just what he has wanted. He needs a chance to do this. Blake, so okay, but
could you please ask her to pick up after herself? They start to makeup, but
Buzz calls at that moment [thank goodness]. Ross has to run. Dinah comes in
eating some cake. Blake shows her her new suit, and Dinah admires it. In fact,
she likes it so much she wants to borrow it. Right now. Blake's jaw drops.

Bridget and David in Duluth:

The poor kids are freezing. David buys socks at the local drugstore.
They are in a drugstore across the street from the school for the blind, which
opens up its doors in five minutes. Bridget, however, is having second
thoughts. Dylan hasn't responded to any of her calls or letters, and she
thinks maybe they should just turn around and go home. David convinces her
that they came an awful long way to turn around. She agrees finally, but says
she has to do it alone. She needs to find out if it is over between them.

Matt and Vanessa:

Matt says that Dinah "doesn't give a damn about anyone but herself".
Vanessa doesn't see that, and she doesn't understand how Matt could say such
a thing. He says she is playing guilt games with her mother. Vanessa repeats
that she doesn't understand how Matt could say such a horrible thing.
"Because...I don't like what she's doing to you." (He thought about telling
her the truth, but backed out.) He runs upstairs to see Peter.

Dinah and Blake:

Dinah says she is off to a business meeting (with Henry). Blake
is thrilled to hear she is seeing Henry. Maybe she would like to stay with
them too? Nah, Dinah likes the Marler residence. Ross comes in and dotes
on his "princess". Dinah pours on thick with dad, and then it's Blake's turn.
"Blake is so beautiful. You both mean so much to me." She goes (with
Blake's suit) and Ross says "she's an angel". Blake doesn't agree but says
nothing.

The diner:

The whole crew is here. Buzz told all of them to meet in the dining
room. Carroll comes in, followed by Ross. None of them know what is going on.
Finally, Buzz, in a suit, comes in. He kisses Frank and Lucy, and says they
are ready for an important step. He says he wishes Harley could be here, and
meanders a bit, and Nadine coughs offstage. Buzz pulls himself together and
says: "May I present the most beautiful woman, etc., my soon to be ex-wife".
Nadine comes out and joins him.

The school for the blind:

A child works on a computer, with a teacher looking over her shoulder.
Bridget comes in the door, and asks about Dylan without saying his name or her
own. The child asks her teacher about "macros" for she is planning to play
a game as soon as she figures out how to use the thing. The teacher has no
idea what she is talking about [nor me--odd thing this idea that macros are
some dense, difficult programming thing]. The kid says that Dylan is helping
her, while he rebuilds the library. Bridget is shocked, but the kid explains:
"There are lots of things he can do without his eyesight". Bridget turns
around and leaves.

Matt and Vanessa:

Matt apologizes. Vanessa apologizes. It was stupid of him to presume.
He realizes that Vanessa's door will have to remain open for Dinah for ever
and ever. Vanessa says that she realizes that she is a little obsessed over the
whole thing, but she is her child. She just wishes that Dinah would call.
They never had much of a relationship, and she would like to make up for that.
Matt thinks that family shouldn't be an obligation, but a good thing, and he
promises that he will say no more. Vanessa decides that she will just have
to get used to her not calling. They agree not to let it hurt their relationship
no matter what.

Henry and Dinah at the Springfield Inn:

Henry tells Dinah of a little Seine romance from his youth. He used
to argue philosophy and sip wines, etc., back in those days. Dinah says
that he should go back, but Henry doesn't want to fuss with the memories.
She says that "charm like yours never goes out of style". And says he is
handsome, and so on. He asks her some questions about her life, and she tells
him she is an Art History major, and life was just wonderful until a few
months ago when her romance collapsed. Henry says that the pain will go away,
and she should let school help her through it. She knows, but she can't help
thinking about what might have been. Henry tells her not to let that "tiresome
youth" damage her education. She says she likes talking to him. It takes some
of her loneliness away. She says that she is alone in the world. He says, not
so, she has her family here. But Dinah says she doesn't fit in Springfield.
It's okay, though, she learned to be tough and independent in Paris. All
she needs is a little money. Could he tell her about her trust fund? He says
that she has quite a lot of money in there, but she can't touch it until she
is 30. Dinah is shocked. She might be dead by then. Can it be changed? It's
possible, Henry says, but she has to talk to her mother about it. Why doesn't
she try to talk to her?

Dinah says that, at first, she was thrilled about seeing her mother.
But her relationship with Matt Reardon is hard to take. He is just her age.
It's creepy. Henry defends Matt. He's really a nice fellow. But Henry admits
he doesn't think the relationship has much of a chance. There is just too
much against it. He thinks she shouldn't let Matt influence her one way or
another. She doesn't realize how important she is to her mother. "That is
exactly what I wanted to hear," beams Dinah.

David and Bridget:

David has his feet resting by a fire. Bridget comes in and tells David
that it's time to go home. David wants to know what happened. She says it was
great, and it's time to go. David hugs her. He says that she is his best
friend in the world next to Dylan. She doesn't have to lie to him.

Buzz and Nadine:

Buzz tries to explain. They both want new lives and new directions.
This whole thing is a "launching pad". "It's a metaphor," he says to their
collective blank faces. Nadine takes over. They are like a team of horses.
[A simile.] They work together and live together, harnessed. And now they
want to unhitch [nice word choice]. Divorce is a "heavy commitment, an ending,
a new beginning". They need the support of their friends and family. To
help celebrate. Its a divorce party!

Ross reads a little divorce statement the Cooper's wrote. Buzz
promises to be there for Nadine (for backrubs or whatever she needs) and
Nadine promises to lend him $20 and to make him home-cooked meals. Buzz
promises not to bug her dates, and she promises not to tell him any more
about her psychic stuff. Then, they ask Frank to give a speech. At first,
he resists, but then he gets into it. He thought that his parents would
never be together, and then when they did, it was a childhood dream come
true. That's why it's so tough. But he now gives them his approval. He
finishes with "Happy Divorce". He gets applause.

Bridget and David:

She just couldn't do it. She couldn't invade his life. It would
only have helped her, not him. David doesn't get it. She says Dylan is
doing what he has to do. Sprinfield must have been hell. David wonders what
she will do now. She could wait, but what's the point? There is no room
for her in his life. He could change, but he might not. David promises
his friendship and they decide to go home.

Blake:

She calls France. She wonders when classes start again. They already
have. Could she talk to Dinah Marler's advisor please?

Matt:

Dinah comes to the door. He says that the "prodigal daughter" has
returned. She wants to talk to her mom, alone, and Vanessa comes up. "Is
there a problem?"

The Diner:

Frank and Eleni and everyone dance. The divorce will be final in a
week. Ross waived the fee, for Buzz and Nadine brought back the magic of
divorce for him. Buzz promises, then, no more lawyer jokes.

Vanessa and Dinah:

Matt leaves. Mother and daughter hug.

Blake:

Guess what? Dinah hasn't been an Art History major at her school
for 2 years. Surprise.

***By the way, I don't know what is happening in y'alls part of the country,
but here in SW Virginia, Friday's GL will be pre-empted for the ACC conference
tournament. It will be shown on Sunday at 1:20 AM instead.****
