                        Guiding Light Update
                     Tuesday, February 18, 1997

Dallas: Jenna and Geoffrey enter the ballroom of a high society party.
They are smiling, but she makes up an excuse to leave and fix her makeup,
telling him to mingle and case the joint. Buzz catches her arm and pulls
her into the coat room, where he begins kissing her passionately.

Springfield Country Club: It's the end of Rick and Abby's engagement
party. Philip makes a toast to the perfect doctor's wife. Abby says she
can put up with anything for Rick.

Cedars: Rick reconfirms his paternity for Lillian as they shout emergency
room talk. Enter Ross to find out if Kevin will be all right. Lillian
escorts Ross out of ER. More ER doctor talk as they prepare Kevin for
surgery. Lillian counsels Rick against performing surgery on his flesh and
blood. In the waiting room, Ross worries about everyone. Roger worries
about Chrissy. Blake has been sent to Intensive Care. Jason will be all
right. Holly is staying with Jason in his room. Ross perseverates about
how serious this is for Kevin. Fletcher convinces Ross that Rick will do
only the best for Kevin. Enter Amanda promising to make everything all
better because she is an influential Spaulding. Fletcher continues talking
to Ross; Ross's at a loss about why Blake was driving with the kids at all.

Dallas Coat Room: Buzz and Jenna come up for air after embarrassing
another party goer. Buzz tells her they have to get the baby and return to
Springfield before the cops notice she is gone. She returns to the party
to try to get the key to the room where Geoffrey is keeping Coop. Geoffrey
wants to introduce her to someone--Mrs. Jonathan Price Lamar, the woman who
was embarrassed by the coat room kiss. The woman snubs Jenna and leaves.
Geoffrey is curious about Jenna's change of heart about him--he isn't sure
she's sincere. She maneuvers to have champagne dumped on his coat, giving
her an excuse to take his jacket to the ladies room/coat room, where she
passes the key to Buzz.

Country Club: Philip waxes poetic to Abby about Rick's virtues. She wants
to hear about his childhood and his all his flaws. Philip says he doesn't
have any. She agrees--he's her hero. Nola and Meta interrupt to say
they've been listening to her brag about Rick, and they're so glad she's so
happy.

Cedars: Lillian, still wearing her blue party frock, argues against Rick
performing the surgery. Rick says there's not time to wait...he must
operate NOW! This is an EMERGENCY!!! He takes full responsibility, of
course. Rick tells Ross he has to operate since there's internal bleeding.
Ross gives his permission; this is what Blake would want. Lillian gazes
sadly at Ross and tells him Blake's tests are almost done but she's still
not awake. Roger looks at the floor, worried. He and Ross exchange civil
glances. Ross tells Roger that Kevin will be okay. He tells Fletcher
thank God for Rick; he's always had such a special relationship with Kevin.
Ross goes to be with Blake during the operation. Amanda has sent for a
pediatric specialist. Roger informs her Rick is already operating as they
speak. In another room, Holly comforts Jason. She's worried about Blake,
too. She wears surgical gloves, but keeps running her fingers through her
hair--so much for sanitation. She babbles on and on about Ross and Blake's
love and Blake's secret. Most of the conversation is designed for viewers
who may have missed the last year and a half of this story. More back
story babbling about Blake and her father. In ICU, Ross waits outside
Blake's room. She has an oxygen mask on and is sitting up, but still
comatose. He promises her that everything will be okay and their lives
will go back to the way they were before. He also tells her Rick is
operating on Kevin. Don't go anywhere, he says, since she and the boys are
his life.

OR Much shouted doctor talk about vital body functions. Rick freezes
momentarily and then opens. More medical mumbling. Enter Lillian to help
out. Still more hospital talk and a close up of very red blood.

Dallas Hotel Room: Buzz, wearing a maintenance man outfit, enters the room
with Coop and the nanny . He tells her they have to check the heating and
air conditioning vents because of a possible carbon monoxide leak. He then
locks her into a closet.

Cedars: Roger and Amanda review the events of the evening. Amanda wants
to know what she can do. Roger wants the latest information on what's
happening in OR. In OR, more doctor talk with abbreviations and initials.
They have stopped shouting, at least. More bloody close ups. Then there's
another problem and people start shouting in hospital-ese again.

Hotel room: The nanny's pounding on the closet door as Buzz escapes with
Coop.

Cedars OR: It's time for the paddles. It looks like Kevin's a goner, but
of course, Rick won't accept it. Finally his heart starts beating again.
Rick embarrasses himself.."That's my boy." Finally Rick leaves everyone
else to close. Lillian congratulates him. Rick cries. Rick decides he
must tell Ross about Kevin's paternity. He exits OR after gazing fondly at
Kevin while the music swells. Rick thanks God. In the waiting room,
Fletcher and Roger are semi-cordial. Enter Ross. Enter Rick, who reports
that Kevin looks good, but he has lost his spleen. Ross hugs Rick. He's
grateful. Rick wants to talk to Ross privately. They exit.

Dallas: Geoffrey rescues the nanny, angry that Coop is gone. Jenna's
downstairs at the ball. Enter Buzz who sweeps her away; Coop's in a
waiting limo. She wants to leave for the airport right away.

Cedars: Roger sits with Blake, telling her that Kevin will be fine and now
it's time for her to wake up. Holly gazes into the room from outside.

Country Club: Abby's wishing on a star. Meta says she already has it all,
there's no need to wish.

Private room: Ross is effusive with his praise of Rick. Rick interrupts
him to tell him that ...To Be Continued...
