Guiding Light Update
   Fri., Feb. 7

        by Viv

In the Spaulding building, the elevator containing Roger and Holly
careens downward as they sit on the floor, clinging to each other. Suddenly
it comes to a stop.

Josh and Reva talk over the phone from their respective homes. Josh
is pleading with Reva to see him, but she looks torn.

Annie talks to Mrs. Dwight as only Annie can. Mrs. D. hung up on
Reva when she called and is afraid that she will keep on calling her. Annie
has a plan to make Reva disappear from both their lives forever, but Mrs.
Dwight has to follow it exactly in order for it to work. She must call Reva
and say what Annie dictates. Mrs. Dwight doesn't seem to have a prayer
against a force of nature like Annie-without-drugs.

Jenna is escorted by Frank to a cell after her bond hearing. Buzz
is there and wants to help her through this. He holds her hand through the
bars.

Holly is terrified although the elevator has stopped, and doesn't
want to let go of Roger. He tries to explain that they are stuck between
floors and are probably okay for now. There's a jolt and an electrical
panel on the wall pops out a bit. Holly is newly frightened, but Roger hold
her close and says he would never let anything happen to her. He tries to
comfort her by telling her it could be worse. If he hadn't gotten on at the
last minute, she would be alone now. Holly doesn't seem to be mollified, so
Rog tries humor. He says that he forgot his shoe phone or he could call for
help. Holly doesn't want to hear his spy jokes but almost laughs. (Why
don't these two execs have cell phones? Don't they watch the X-Files?) So
Roger gets serious and explains that the elevator is held up by steel ropes,
which hold the car in place. He remembers waiting for a delivery in an
elevator in his days with the CIA, but once again, Holly doesn't want to
hear him reminisce. Her attitute goes from fright to revulsion to
attraction during their time together, just like the old Holly. He suggests
ringing the alarm button on the panel, but it will require him moving.
She's not sure, but when Roger gets to the panel and presses the button, the
alarm sounds.

Reva looks good in pale aqua. She is reluctant to give in to Josh's
pleas. He tells her that Annie is doing very well, but Reva says that Blake
let into her today about the stress that is added to Annie's life with Reva
around. Josh is surprised, as usual, that he hasn't a clue as to where his
wife is at. Reva thinks that something is very wrong, and Josh is anxious
to find out what. Finally Reva hangs up on him in sadness.

Buzz wants to know how the bail hearing went, and Jenna is
unconvincing when she tells him she'll be out before long. After a little
prodding, she reveals that the judge considered her a flight risk and set
bail at $150,000. Buzz wants to know where Jeffrey is, and is surprised to
find that he hasn't been around at all, not even to send a lawyer. He wants
to stay around, and is there when Frank arrives with prison slop on a tray.
Buzz is disgusted that his queen would have to eat this kind of food and
promptly runs to the diner to prepare a better quality meal for her. Jenna
then begs Frank to call a number in England for her. She almost slips and
mentions her son, but says it's Jeffrey's boy to cover herself. Frank, the
cop with a heart of gold, agrees to make the call.

Alex flies out of her office in a frenzy when she hears the elevator
alarm. She does not react well to loud noises. Alan is in the reception
area with the secretary and doesn't seem concerned. The secretary says that
no one got on the elevator after Roger and Holly. Amanda shows up and
doesn't like the sound of that at all. Inside, Holly is relieved when the
alarm is finally shut off and decides to take a few notes for the paper.
Roger compliments her on her writing style from articles he has read in her
paper, and takes the time to compare it to Fletcher's inadequate one. Holly
doesn't have time to fire a snappy comeback as she has an attack of
claustrophobia. Roger seems unsure about how to help her, and whether or
not to touch her.

The spineless Mrs. Dwight calls Reva and tells her she has
information for her. As she speaks, she looks over at Annie, who is smiling
her happy-for-now-psycho smile. Mrs. D. wants Reva to come over and Reva
says she will.

At the diner, Lucy and A-M are saying goodbye to Eleni as they are
leaving town today. Buzz walks in and is surprised to hear that they are
going so soon. He is upset that his little girl is going but tries to put
up a brave front. He wants the Lamb to be happy and if they have to go,
it's all right with him. Father and daughter remember their times together
on the road. Lucy is grateful for the way he raised her, and how he taught
her that family is the most important thing. Buzz shakes A-M's hand and
says goodbye, then retreats to the kitchen, emotionally overwrought.

Roger speaks calmly to Holly and suggests they play a movie trivia
game. She is very reluctant, but they wind up discussing "Strangers on a
Train" (Josh should have rented this one when he went to the rental store
last week) and Roger gives his opinion on the root of the movie; the battle
between good and evil. Could he be referring to his relationship with
Holly, or the battle within himself, or is it only a movie? Then he
comments that this is the longest and most civilized conversation they have
had in a long while. Holly looks as though she agrees.

Mrs. Dwight doesn't like lying but Annie can be very convincing when
she wants something. When the poor woman whines that Reva only wants to
find her sister, Annie tells her she is only protecting her late husband's
name and memory by doing this. Knowing her latest prey is beaten, Annie leaves.

Lucy has a few last words for her dad. She never wants him to
change, even though he's crazy and has embarassed her in the past. They
share a tearful goodbye with hugs all around, but A-M is dry-eyed. Perhaps
he has clinched a deal for a movie of the week. After the Lamb trots out to
pasture (baa! bleat!) Eleni and Buzz take a few moments to console each
other. Then Buzz announces that he has to put a meal together for delivery.
To where, Eleni asks. Buzz replies, "Jail, of course."

Alan is amused that Roger and Holly are trapped in the elevator. He
accused Alex of engineering the whole thing. She emphatically denies it.
Amanda is upset that her fiance is in close quarters with his true love, and
harasses the poor elevator repairman into hurrying. He fixes it quickly and
the passengers are freed. It was only an hour in an elevator, but if it's
anything like the blizzards and power outages in SF, the fallout will affect
many.

Buzz delivers an edible meal to his jailbird. She still thinks
she'll be sprung soon, but Buzz doesn't appear to share her level of
confidence in handsome but unreliable Jeff. He asks for the blanket from
her cot, and spreads it between the bars for a picnic. He then reveals that
Lucy has left the flock, and goes on to say it's important to let the ones
you love know how you feel while they're around. When they gaze at each
other their feelings are obvious. Frank pops in and Jenna wants to know if
he got through to her husband.

Annie returns home to find Josh repairing one of Shane's toys.
Somehow Shane fits the profile of toy-smasher. She says that Alan wasn't
home for his therapy and she hung around for a while before coming home.
Josh wants to know how the job is going and tries to find out if she's
really happy. She claims to be very happy, but the claws come out as she
brings up pills, booze and her sobriety. Josh wants to talk about the trust
fund papers. When she saw them, Annie says her first reaction was that
something horrible was going to happen.

Reva is glad that Mrs. Dwight called her, but is shocked when the
woman tells her that she couldn't afford to raise her sister, so gave her
up. As far as the financially bereft woman knows, the girl is still alive.

Alex wants to be sure that Holly is okay. She is, and wants to get
back to work, but prefers to take the stairs this time, thank you very much.
On her way out, she thanks Roger. He looks satisfied, calculating, aroused?
Alan wants to go over a few things with his future son-in-law. Alex had
cleared his calendar when the elevator stopped, so Roger complies. But
Amanda is miffed and struts out. Roger says the meeting will have to wait,
and follows his meal ticket.

Frank wasn't able to reach anyone at the number Jenna gave him.
She's upset and relents when Buzz once again offers his help. This time she
looks happy about it.

Josh wanted Annie to feel more secure by providing the trust fund,
in case anything should happen to him. She knows, and isn't worried about
the future.

Mrs. Dwight tells Reva that she gave Reva's sister away because she
and her husband could barely provide for themselves. She hands Reva a file,
which contains the name and address she needs to know.
