GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE
FEBRUARY 6, 1996

Written by Roger Newman; Directed by Bruce S. Barry

Ross's Office:
Enter Deluded Dina and Hart. She's prattling on about their night together
and her upcoming divorce from Roger; he's vaguely uncomfortable about being
there at all and would rather go get lunch. She finally picks up on his
discomfort and asks, don't you want me to be free?

Springfield Docks:
This was a confusing scene with Levy, Frank, Nell, Alan, and Buzz all
shouting at each other in frustration about letting Brent get away again.
Enter Nick who wants to get up to speed on the situation and to find out
why no one's minding the store at Spaulding. Alan and Buzz are concerned
that Reva isn't where they left her...they finally deduce she must be on
Brent's trail.

Interior Stairs at the Lighthouse:
Reva's slowly climbing the stairs...at this rate it will take her another
week to reach the top.

Interior Lighthouse:
Brent tells Lucy and AM he knows what they're up to since he viewed their
"wedding" on tape. Much yelling and screaming with Brent calling Lucy a
slut who betrayed him. She lied and they fell into his trap. Brent grabs
her, shoving her down on the bed, trying to strangle her. The three hear
someone (Reva) outside the room and AM shouts be careful, he's got a gun.
Reva makes her way quickly down the stairs and out the lighthouse while
Brent, gun in hand, cautiously pursues her. Back in the room, Lucy goes on
the attack, verbally abusing Brent the way his mother did.

Rear of Company:
Bridget is on her way out when she is intercepted by Roger. Although she
is in a hurry and tells him so, he is eager to inform her about Hart and
last night's extra-curricular activities with Dina. He claims he admires
Bridget and that he's only telling her this because he knows she still
cares about Hart and he doesn't want to see her get hurt. She doesn't
really buy his concern, but she's noticeably upset by his news. Roger's
enjoying making someone else as miserable as he is about the turn of
events.

Ross's Office:
Hart tells Dina she shouldn't rush into a divorce or into telling other
people about their relationship. He claims he's protecting her from being
viewed as an adulteress. Finally she asks him what about "I love you?'
Did you sleep with me just to spite Roger? (Unfortunately, these were
rhetorical questions...she doesn't really believe it yet.)

Lewis Construction Office:
Matt's on the phone with someone who wants his plan done yesterday. Enter
David, who has stopped by to borrow Matt's car. David complains about Hart
conning Bridget; Matt says David's just angry because he loves Bridget
himself. David denies all--they're just friends--but Matt thinks David
should be honest with Bridget about his feelings. David says it's too late
since she loves Hart.

Outside Company:
Bridget tells Roger she doesn't want to hear any more. Roger plants an
additional seed of doubt--what if Hart and Dina get together and come after
Peter?

Ross's Office:
Hart continues to be evasive about his feelings. Finally they kiss and he
leaves for work. Dina finds a pamphlet about divorce and muses to herself
about happier times with Roger. Dina takes a call from Blake (can't Ross
afford a secretary or at least a lock for his office door?). After they
hang up Ross finally arrives. When she asks him to handle her divorce Ross
praises God.

The Docks:
More shouting and confusion involving Nick, Buzz, Alan and Springfield's
finest. Finally Frank buys a clue, Brent's calendar of the lighthouse, and
deduces Brent's hideout. Enter Reva with the same news. (As others have
noted, Reva doesn't belong in this story at all, but at least we don't have
to watch her be the heroine of the day.)

Lighthouse:
Lucy's playing Mommy Dearest. In Brent's mind (and on our screens) she
actually transforms into Lyla, with Brent crumbling to the floor and
beginning to cry. She continues to berate him until she finally gets him
to unlock AM's cage. AM grabs Brent's arm and wrestles him to the ground.

Lewis Construction Office:
Enter Hart. Matt comments on his late arrival and Hart declares that he
quits. Matt's happy he's leaving town, but he feels it's not fair to
Bridget and Peter that he's always cutting and running away. Enter
Bridget,with lunch for Matt.

Ross's Office:
Ross and Dina celebrate her upcoming divorce. He gloats that he's so proud
of her and returns the $50,000.00 check she paid him to defend Marcus.
She's relieved to see the money, since the rest of her funds are
unavailable, due to giving Roger her power of attorney. Ross is appalled
by her stupidity; didn't it occur to her what Roger was doing? Enter
Roger, begging to be enlightened.

Exterior Lighthouse:
The cops have finally arrived. More yelling and screaming, especially Alan
at Reva. For once Buzz agrees that she had no business chasing after
Brent.

Interior Lighthouse:
AM has Brent pinned to the floor. Outside the swat team has arrived and we
can watch their progress up the stairs on the closed circuit television.
Lucy continues her Mommy Dearest imitation, but for some reason it's no
longer working. Brent suddenly comes out of his fugue and escapes AM's
hold, resulting in AM and Lucy being shoved to the floor. (By my count
there have already been at least ten too many scenes just like this. I
can't imagine what they are going to do to keep this up through February
26.) Now that Brent is back in charge he threatens to throw Lucy out the
window unless the police call off the swat team. Of course, they quickly
comply. Frank screams he wants to go inside himself, but Levy vetoes that
plan.

Ross's Office:
Roger wants to talk to Dina alone and begs her not divorce him. Ross wants
a full financial disclosure of every penny of Dina's trust fund. Fine,
says Rog.

Lewis Construction:
Matt tells Bridget this is not a good time since Hart is there. Bridget
senses something is going on, but she has her own agenda. She requests
that Matt leave so she can talk to Hart alone. She lays her cards on the
table, revealing all Roger has reported. The ball is now in his court.
What does he have to say for himself?

Ross's Office:
Roger declares he won't give up the woman he loves without a fight.

Lighthouse:
More tedious arguing, shouting and shoving. AM's on the floor. Brent
drones on and on about the last act of a Shakespearian tragedy that
features Lucy and AM being flung from the lighthouse onto the rocks below.
AM notices the toolbox bomb and takes possession of it. Will he put the
three of them (and all of us) out of our misery? Tune in tomorrow.
