:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

We open on Christos' island. It's a replay of yesterday's scene with
the knife. This time it's a little different, as Christos spins Eleni
around to grab it. He says "You do not have to fight me; I surrender--
you have won--I'll give you whatever you want." In the background,
Frank watches, seething.

Gilly at the Awards Ceremony:

She is live on WSPR. She talks a little about the awards, and
introduces Alan-Michael on camera. He can't lose either way. He has people
on all sides. He says, true, and wishes her luck. She says the awards are
coming up in an hour; it's the "media event of the year". [Maybe that
should be the "meta-media event".]

Fletcher tries to talk to Roger. Roger doesn't want to have
anything to do with little old Fletch. Holly grabs Fletcher and pulls
him away. She wants to know what he's up to. "I'm giving Roger the
name of the guy he's looking for."

Frank, Christos, and Eleni:

Christos tries to get Eleni to toast with him. She wont, and she
wanders out to the porch. She stands right next to Frank, but doesn't
see him.

Holly and Fletcher:

Holly worries for Fletch. "Why? Will he pull out a gun? Bang,
bang, shoot me dead?" Fletcher says he is not going to go on like this,
like a "character out of an opera" [hmm, this didn't get me before, cute].
He says they made one mistake, and now they have to move on. Holly argues
that Roger is no "ordinary" fellow. But Fletcher is, he says. And he needs
to get over all this stuff.

Blake comes in and Fletcher moves on. Holly tells her to "go
hang on" her father. Tangie joins Roger, and wonders about his psyche.
"What were you doing hanging outside my house?" [Huh? Could someone please
remind me of this. Thanks.]

Sid and Vivian and the Doc:

The three of them agree that tonight is Gilly's night. David is
seen in the background, glowering. Gilly schmoozes through the crowd. David
grabs Sid, pulls him away, and apologizes for telling him about Gilly's
LA deal. Sid says he had to know.

Gilly introduces her LA gun to her family. He says "she's on her
way to being a big star". Gilly introduces the wheeler-dealer to David
and then to Sid as "a very special friend". Vivian says something about
the importance of trust in a relationship. [Who knows why.]

Eleni and Christos:

Christos leaves the room, and Frank grabs Eleni. She's shocked to
see him, but not too shocked. He tries to get her to go with him, and she
tries to get him to hide. Franks says he knows what Christos wants.

Nadine at the diner:

Nadine sits in a booth meditating. Carroll [Carol? I can't remember.]
pulls her out. Actually, she was "making a psychic connection with Frank
and Eleni". Carroll wonders if she had had "astral interference". Bingo!
She asks where he has been. He asks her out. She says she can't do anything
until she knows what's up with the Grecian travelers. He accepts that.
She smiles. Carroll gets a psychic message. If you can't bring Nadine to
the date, bring the date to Nadine.

Buzz and Lucy at the Spaulding offices:

Buzz knocks on the door and asks what Lucy is up to. "My nails."
She shoves a pile of papers out of her way, looking for her polish.
[My feeble attempt to reflect her sarcasm at Buzz's pointless question.]
Buzz has brought her food and an apology. He says that he was "a bigger
jerk, than Alan-Michael was. I shouldn't have butt in." Lucy agrees. She
can handle it all by her little self. Buzz agrees, but pulls the "you'll
see when you're a parent how hard it is..." line. He continues. It turns
out that Lucy's love problems are Buzz's fault. He says [I think this was
his point] that because he has always been so reckless with his love, that
she has chosen to be "more careful". "Is that wrong," she queries. No, Buzz
is sure someone will see through it. "I hope you won't be afraid to go with
it, when it comes." [I allow I may have totally misinterpreted this scene.
Or else it didn't make any sense at all. Since when has Lucy not given her
love freely. I recall her falling all over herself before. Not my idea
of a cold fish or anything. Maybe the point was, Buzz doesn't know a damn
thing about emotions.]

Alan-Michael at the awards:

He schmoozes at light speed. He says he has no date to everyone who
asks. He runs into Tangie. She says she would like to talk to him. "You
know where I am," is all he says.

Holly watches Fletcher and Roger. Fletcher promises to solve all
Roger's problems. Holly comes in to send Roger away to his table. "May
the best man win," Roger says. "He will," Fletch retorts.

Nick and Tangie sit at the Journal table. She says she is sorry
to hear about him and Mindy. He says he's managing. Holly sees that she
is seated next to Fletcher, and switches with Stew, the office boy, who
has made it to the awards. Roger sees this, and worries about his note.
Fletcher comes to the table, notices the switch and calls Holly on it.
Tough. Stew picks up the note and says, out loud, "I wonder what it means."

The show is going live in 10 seconds. The crowd begins clapping.
The host appears. It's Mel Davies, the LA man. We discover that this is
the 35th Media Awards. Mel says that tonight the place to be is Springfield.

Roger steps out of the room, and calls Stew. Seems Stew is a Roger
plant. He explains that the envelope is just a joke, and that he should
slide it back under Holly's place. Stew believes him and returns to his
seat.

The first award--for "distinguished broadcast journalism"--
goes to Gilly Grant for her coverage of the fire. Much applause. Sid
screams. Gilly thanks Roger first [!], then Holly, her family, and
"most of all, a special man who showed me one person can make a difference,
Sid Dickerson". He claps at his own name. Gilly forgets to mention her
crew and they immediately go on strike. She says her award will be
a monument to the rebuilding of 5th street.

Nadine and Carroll:

Nadine claps for Gilly (it is live). She turns off the set, and
Carroll sets a couple of chili dogs in front of her. Nadine is thrilled, and
wonders how he knew about her and chili dogs. Buzz, of course. Carroll
says Buzz just wants her to be happy. She changes the subject to Carroll's
new job. He's working for Spaulding, driving. It's nice, but he missed her.

Frank and Eleni:

Eleni begs Frank for a little more time. She thinks she has him
now. Christos reappears and Frank darts away. He toasts again, and this time
she accepts. "Everything is okay; you are safe with me," he says loudly.
Then he leans close to her and whispers: "choose him and he won't leave here
alive." Eleni is shocked.

Buzz and Lucy:

Buzz admits he never worried as much about Frank. Lucy thinks that's
because of her two x's. No, Buzz insists, it's because Frank is a dog.
Predictable and dependable. [Really, I think he was implying, stupid.]
Lucy, on the other hand, is like him. She got all of his faults. She thinks
too much. Buzz wants real love for Lucy. Lucy wants it for him. He says he's
called himself out of that game, but he thinks she shouldn't. He says
"don't worry about angles". Alan-Michael joins them. Buzz shoots him with
his finger, and then pats him on the shoulder. He leaves. Lucy says she
is surprised to see the boss.

Gilly at the ceremony:

Gilly hugs and kisses Springfield. Mel wants to talk LA. She says,
later. Sid comes up and gives her a hug. He broaches the LA subject.

Blake congratulates Roger (who politely reminds her it was Gilly's
award). Holly still misses the note, and Roger is getting frustrated.

Nick follows Fletcher. Fletcher wonders why Nick told Ben about
him in the Balkans. Nick just wanted to know that his father, without
"fanfare or fear", if he "has a job to do, he does it. That's it."
Fletcher says "thank you." For what? "Reminding me. Tell Roger to meet
me out on the terrace. I will tell him everything he wants to know about
Holly."

Blake hugs Holly. The Journal award is up next. [There are no
other papers in town, right? So no surprise who wins.] Nick tells Roger
what Fletcher said, but Roger doesn't think Fletcher has anything to tell
him. Stew hands Holly the note, and she reads it and runs out looking for
Fletcher.

Outside, Fletcher waits. Sid and Gilly come out, and he hides. Gilly
just wanted to pretend the LA offer wasn't real. All along, her career
has been about producing, but now her big chance is on camera. She says that
there are more important things in her life. She asks him if he would move,
but she knows he won't. And he says he can't ask her to turn down the offer.
She hopes that there is no offer, and then, no problem. David appears to
get Gilly. She's the next presenter.

Alan-Michael and Lucy:

Alan-Michael says he made his appearance but he was too busy to
stay. What's her story. Making up for her three hour lunch. He admits
that he was hoping she would be there; he came to find her, to apologize.
She says that he was right. She supports him in everything, including
his decision to drop that company [the one that angered Alan so much].
He wonders how come she has come to that conclusion, and she says "I'm
smart." [I'm wondering if we are supposed to see them as the Brandon and
Bess of today. Hah. They wish.] Alan-Michael says that she can make her
own hours from now on. Good, because she and Brent have a date tomorrow.

Carroll and Nadine:

Nadine dips her fries in mayonaisse. Carroll talks a little about
his wife. She was the love of his life, but she died. He used to be a
junior high school teacher. He taught science and shop. But it was too
much of a real job, and when his wife died, he bought a truck and hit the
road. But Nadine points out that he seems to have settled in Springfield.
Maybe...

Christos and Eleni:

"Now that you understand, we can drink to a happy ending for all."
Christos grabs Eleni for a kiss. Frank jumps him, and they struggle. He
throws him on the bed, gets him in a headlock, and says that either they
get safe passage off the island, or Christos is a dead man.

Alan-Michael:

He works late. He does the pensive thing. [Has his eye-shadow
been a little strong lately, or is it just me?] He leaves work, dropping
a folder on Lucy's desk which says "Lucy, good job, A-M." [Got me. No idea
why this was here.]

Nick and Fletcher:

Nick tells Fletcher that Roger isn't coming. Fletcher goes in
after him.

Holly is looking everywhere for Fletcher, but no one has seen him.

Nick and Tangie sit at the Journal table with no editor or publisher.
They hope they don't win. Gilly is introduced. Fletcher grabs Roger and
pulls him outside. The award for "Excellence in journalism" goes to
"The Springfield Journal". Nick and Tangie go to accept the award. Nick does
all the talking. He admits he is not Fletcher Reade, and Tangie is not
Holly Lindsay. But he goes on to say that Tangie deserves a lot of the
credit, as do the crew [who seem satisfied].

Roger throws Fletcher to the ground. Holly runs out with them.
Fletcher says that he is the one that Roger is looking for. "I made love
to Holly."

Apparently, this week, Wednesday is Friday. Toodles.
