        MARLER RESIDENCE

Blake and Ross wake up and start to cuddle, when Ross sits up, "My
daughter is sleeping in the next room!"

Dinah sneaks into the house, "Daddy's little girl is home free."

        SPAULDING ENTERPRISES

Alan-Michael is on the phone when Lucy arrives. Lots of phone calls are
coming in. Brent walks in the office and tells A-M that he was all over
talk radio this morning. The deal is done and it's time to celebrate,
but A-M wants to wait for the aftershocks. Brent asks Lucy if they're on
for lunch. Lucy says it's crazy around there so it's up to the boss.

        THE JOURNAL

Nick and Tangie & others are called to an editorial meeting by Fletcher.
Fletcher starts giving out assignments, but Stu asks why they aren't waiting
for Holly. Fletcher: "Why don't we also wait for Hailey's Comet to make
another pass around here. I doubt that our esteemed publisher will make
a public appearance today or any day in the near future." Holly walks in
and tells him to get away from her desk.

Fletcher tells Holly to take over the meeting, but she tells him to
continue since he started without her. He wants everyone to acknowledge
Tangie's great work reporting the conference and the Kobe earthquake.
Holly hopes Tangie lives up to their high expectations. Nick asks for
his assignment. Someone else says: "My aren't we all a little bit testy
this morning. We should pull our claws back in before the media
awards." Stu asks if WSPR will be there. Fletch: "Gilly, Roger,
the whole gang-- we'll be one big happy family."

        ADOPTION AGENCY

Mindy wants to know why they were turned down for the adoption. Mrs.
DeWitt tells her about Nick's call and says that perhaps it's for the
best under these circumstances.

        MARLER RESIDENCE

Dinah is in the livingroom eating pecan pie & smoking. "I am in Mayberry."

Blake & Ross are still in bed, but Ross wants to stop and make breakfast
for Dinah. He's so excited to have her here. Dinah (after changing into
a bathrobe) knocks on their door and asks if Daddy's awake. She tells
him she slept like a baby and that she's so glad he invited her to stay.
"I couldn't have relaxed at Vanessa's." Ross is so glad to see her, he'd
been afraid he wouldn't see her again. He wants to know all about Paris
and the Frenchman who broke her heart.

        THE JOURNAL

Fletcher reads a headline from another paper, "New president dumps old
flagship company, will senior return to helm?", and wonders why they
missed this story about Spaulding. Holly wants to assign the story to
Nick, but he won't have anything to do with it. Fletch suggests Tangie,
but Holly says she's new and involved with A-M, so she can't. Tangie
wants a shot at it. Holly says o.k.

Fletcher tells Tangie to be careful with the Spauldings. Tangie is more
worried about Roger, because he's obsessed with finding out who the other
man is in Holly's life. She hasn't told Roger what she knows. Fletch tells
her that he's not afraid of Roger and that it's over with Holly.

Holly has called Blake to find out if she knows where Roger is (she
doesn't know).

Fletch calls staff back into the meeting when Mindy arrives to see Nick.

      SPAULDING ENTERPRISES

A-M asks Brent to get information about a computer company that's
failing. He wants to buy the company. Alan marches in and demands,
"What the hell is going on here? Are you trying to destroy MY company?
Do you realize you have sold the cornerstone of the Spaulding empire?
Spring Electronics is the first company I bought. How could you sell it
without consulting me first? Do you hate me that much? I spent my life
building up this company and now you're selling it off piece by piece.
Why, son?" A-M tells him that as president he has the right to make
decisions, to safeguard the company. "I don't have to consult with
anyone." Alan thinks he's doing it to spite him. A-M says it's only
business & tells Alan he can look at the figures and listen to his
reasoning-- or did he come just to yell at him?

Tangie arrives and Lucy tells her A-M is in a meeting and doesn't have time
for a "social visit."

        MARLER RESIDENCE

Blake sees the mess Dinah made in the living room, "I will not let this
get to me. I will not scream. This is Ross' daughter. I will not kill
her...yet."

Phone rings. It's business generated by Ross' commercial. He has to
leave for work, so he tells Blake & Dinah that they can get better
acquainted. After he leaves, Dinah tells Blake that she isn't a morning
person-- she needs 3 cups of coffee and a long hot shower.

        THE JOURNAL

Fletch is discussing stories, but Holly is distracted. Tiffany says that
the biggest news is that Vanessa's illegitimate child by Ross Marler just
showed up out of nowhere. She was spotted in the wee hours at the
Country Club bar wining and dining with Roger Thorpe. Holly wants her to
follow up on it and tell her everything she finds out. Fletcher whispers
to Holly that he thought they were happily back together. She says that
they are.

Mindy tells Nick that she went to see Mrs. Dewitt to find out why they
were turned down and asks him why he called. He did it because she
wanted the baby, but didn't want him. She tells him she could have
changed. He says it would have been wrong and tells her to apply for a
child as a single parent. He couldn't be a part of lie. Mindy thinks
that's funny since he lied and betrayed her family. Nick thinks she
stopped loving him then, so she should admit it.

Holly is still trying to find Roger-- he hasn't been to WSPR. Fletch
wants to know what's going on between Holly & Roger. She doesn't know,
he's disappeared.
Fletch: "That's a great foundation for a marriage! Not that I give a
damn anymore."
Holly: "Maybe you should."

       SPAULDING ENTERPRISES

Tangie is still trying to get in to see A-M, but Lucy won't tell him
she's here. Tangie tells Lucy it's not personal, she's there
representing the Journal. Lucy tells her to talk to Public Relations.

       MARLER RESIDENCE

Tiffany, the society editor from the Journal, arrives and asks for Dinah
Marler. Since Dinah is still getting ready, Tiffany asks Blake why Dinah
was at the Country Club with Blake's father at 4 a.m. Blake tells her it
couldn't have been Dinah, she was here. Dinah walks in and tells Tiffany
that she couldn't sleep and wanted to check out the nightlife. A cab
driver recommended the country club. She met a charming gentleman and
Blake asks if he mentioned that he was her father. Dinah laughs, says
no. Is there a problem? Blake tells her it wasn't smart to leave & not
tell anyone. Dinah: "Isn't that sweet. My step-mama is worried about
me. I was safe in the hands of my step-grandfather. What was his name
again?" Tiffany tells Dinah that he has an interesting past.

        THE JOURNAL

Holly tells Fletch that she's turning herself inside out trying to
protect him and he doesn't give a damn. He doesn't want her protection
and all she's protecting is her pitiful relationship. Holly tells him
that Roger knows and is trying to find out who she was with. He's asked
Tangie and she's tempted to tell him. Fletch thinks they should tell
Roger and get it out in the open.

        SPAULDING ENTERPRISES

Alan & A-M come out of his office and continue arguing until Alan notices
Tangie. He welcomes her back. Tangie tells them about her new job and
wonders if they'll give her an exclusive about the Spring electronics
deal. A-M says not now, check with Lucy to make an appointment for next
week. He goes back to his office. Alan asks Tangie if she received his
messages. She tells him she was busy, but then decides to ask him to lunch.

A-M tells Lucy to set up a press conference for the next day. Lucy tells
him he did the right thing standing up to his father. Brent brings in
some research for A-M and takes Lucy off to lunch. A-M sits alone at his
desk.

      STREET

Nick watches parents with a baby. Mindy arrives and appologizes and says
he was right. "Something did get broken between us. I wish I could get
past it, but I can't." She could tell that couple loved each other and
a baby can sense that and needs that. Nick wants her to be happy. She
wants that for him too. They hug & he goes back to work. Mindy wishes him
luck and hope he wins.

       MARLER RESIDENCE

After Tiffany leaves, Blake asks Dinah why she didn't tell them she left
last night. Then asks her if Roger told Dinah about his plans for
today. Dinah says he didn't tell her his name, but he was totally bummed
out about somebody. Dinah wants to use Blake's car. Blake's not too
enthusiastic, but Dinah grabs the keys and leaves. The phone rings.
It's Ross asking about Dinah. Blake tells him that his little girl is
really something.

       THE JOURNAL

Fletcher asks Holly for WSPR's phone number, he wants to call and leave
Roger a message. Holly tells him it's not a game. Fletch asks what is
it-- it's making him sick. He's had it up to here with Roger Thorpe.

"The last thing he said to me. He asked me who Holly is seeing, not
because he thought it could be me. No, I'm only a decoy,. I'm only the
guy covering for you while you're off someplace having a wild crazy
love-affair with some blond hunk or something. His ego is so inflated
that he doesn't believe you would leave almighty him for nice, little old
ordinary me. I think we should clue him in."

Holly: "You really don't get it, do you? If he finds out it is you, you
could be in great danger! I'm serious about this, I'm concerned for you."

Fletcher: "I'm touched. What do you think Roger will do to me? Will he
get me outside at dawn for a duel? Do you think he'll come here with a
shotgun or blow me up in my car? I can handle anything Roger throws at
me. The question is, is this the kind of man you want to marry and spend
the rest of your life with? The kind of man that you think can commit
this kind of violence? A man you are scared of? Think about it,
please. I'll see you tonight at the media awards-- all of us will be there."

<<What will happen at the awards?? Karen>>
