* Fletch worries that he's sent Holly running back to Roger
* Holly wallows in a Fellini flick.
* Rog tries to gain control of his desire for revenge
* Annie brings a peace offering to Josh
* Mindy's ache for a baby wins out over her distaste for Nick

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: Alan-Michael talks, but Lucy seems distracted. He
asks for her input. "It's time for you to take your clothes off," she
blurts out. "Say what?" returns AM.

SPRINGFIELD JOURNAL: Nick rushes in with a hot story & hands the disk off
to a copy boy. Fletch is sitting at a computer working & Nick is
surprised to see him. The copy boy is a little worried; Fletch has been
there since early morning & hasn't said a word.

Nick approaches Fletcher & comments on the bottle of bourbon he's
nursing. Fletch tells the ace reporter to figure it out for himself. He
says he's busy working, but his computer screen is blank. He downs
another shot of booze.

MOVIE THEATER: Holly sits alone, eating popcorn & watching a movie.

BEHIND A RICE-PAPER SCREEN: Roger has come to consult someone he hasn't
seen in a long time because he is afraid of what he might do. He tells
his advisor that the woman he loves has been unfaithful & all he can
think about is hurting the man. He wants to erase the thought from his
mind. As they emerge from behind the screen, the advisor tells Rog he has
to decide which is more important: love or revenge. Rog, dressed in a
Japanese robe, sits & meditates. He envisions a pointy dagger, then
squeezes his eyes shut in an attempt to rid himself of the image.

JOURNAL: Nick tells Fletch he needs a favor. Fletch acts overly happy to
oblige. "I'll crawl out on any limb for anyone with a sob story." Nick
asks about Holly & whether she & Fletch accomplished what they set out to
do. Fletch says yeah, they pumped a couple of rounds into that old
elephant. Fletch admits that he actually started to open up about his
feelings to Holly. "We got real close; at least I thought we did," Fletch
says with a touch of cynicism. Then he lets out his frustration as he
explains that Holly just up & left while he was checking them out of the
lodge. He has no clue why, where or how she went. He decides the answer
is that he was too much for. "She's gone & I'm happy about it." Nick
doesn't really believe this. Fletch is also feeling somewhat superfluous
at the paper, since Nick has done such a good job with it in his absence.
When the copy boy comes by with a problem, Fletch just spouts some
ridiculousness at him, so Nick takes over. Fletch downs another shot.

LEWIS HOUSE: Josh tells Mindy that Nick has left a few messages for her.
Mindy is upset & having trouble coming to a decision. She tells Josh that
the adoption agency has found a baby for her & Nick, but she's not sure
what to do.

SPAULDING: AM plays guessing games with Lucy about why he's supposed to
take his clothes off. "Have you forgotten that you have a fitting for
your new tuxedo?" she asks him. AM says he already has 2 tuxes & doesn't
need another. Lucy shows in a Savile Row tailor & tells AM that he's
being photographed next week & his face will be on the cover of the
annual report. "And that face should sit on a neck that protrudes from a
perfectly fitted tuxedo." "Protrudes?" asks AM incredulously. Lucy is
insistent & says Brandon was photographed in a tux from Savile Row. AM
relents. As Lucy watches, the tailor unzips AM's pants, grabs his
suspenders, & suddenly AM is standing in his underwear, more than a
little surprised. Unfortunately, Lucy has to leave to answer the phone.

In the reception area, Lucy talks to Alan on the phone. Lucy assures him
that AM will be at the country club at 6 sharp. Alan insists that it must
be a surprise & Lucy says it will. AM bellows for her & she runs back
into his office. He's furious with the tailor & insists that he's a
businessman, not a mannequin (reminded me a bit of Dr. McCoy there for a
second...). AM wants the tailor out of his office because he has work to
do. He sits down at his desk in his undershirt.

COUNTRY CLUB: Alan greets Alex with a kiss on the cheek. She calls him
the master of the innocent look & says she knows exactly what tonight is
all about. Alan doesn't know what she's trying to make of it. Alex
doesn't understand why Alan made the whole thing a surprise. Alan starts
nattering about the change in AM's behavior -- dancing on desks,
insisting that his dad & aunt make appts to see him, etc. Alex thinks
maybe Alan's secretiveness has something to do with Tangie. Alan feigns
ignorance. Alex wonders if Tangie & AM are still an item. Alan says he
thinks they had an argument, she's out of town & he doesn't know where.
Alex says maybe Tangie would be more compatible with an older man, but
Alan doesn't bite. Alan says the surprise party is about power. If AM had
known about it, he might have refused to come or purposely shown up late.
This way, he can't do either. Alex doesn't buy it. She says Alan is
trying to test how much control he has over AM. Alan denies it, but Alex
decides to stick around to watch the show.

SPAULDING: Somehow, Lucy has lured AM into the tux, and she is fastening
his cufflinks & fixing his bowtie while explaining that "some people"
think he's too young/immature for the job, so he should stick with the
tux tradition. She spouts some nonsense about keeping up the image that
his grandfather created, etc. AM buys in & allows the tailor to help him
into his jacket. AM is pleased with the fit & tries the shoes. They fit
as well. Lucy suddenly notices the time & tells AM they have to hurry or
they'll be late for the meeting with Glenn Taggart. She forgot to tell
him it was rescheduled. AM starts to change as Lucy accidentally-on-
purpose knocks over a cup of coffee onto some papers & AM's suit pants.
He heads for the closet, saying he has a spare suit there, but Lucy says
she sent it to the cleaners. AM is frustrated -- what's he supposed to
wear to the meeting? "How about your new tuxedo?" suggests Lucy.

JOURNAL: Fletch says he's a fool for turning a moment of passion into a
romance novel. He figures it was just a momentary diversion for Holly. He
decides he has lost his ability to understand "female signals." Nick
tells Fletch that Rog was nosing around looking for him & Holly. Fletch
doesn't want to hear any more about Rog.

MEDITATION CENTRAL: Rog tries to clear his mind of all thoughts, but
Holly's voice keeps intruding. She calls his name insistently. He asks
what the problem is & keeps hearing her say that she needs time & space.
Roger sees the ski boots & champagne bottle in his mind, then the image
of the pointy daggar. "NOOOO!!!!!" he screams.

JOURNAL: Fletch says he came on too strong & drove Holly back into Rog's
arms. Nick says Fletch is just speculating. "For one, brief shining
moment we grabbed that brass ring, but then I didn't measure up," Fletch
whines. Whatever Holly saw in him scared her so much that she ran back to
Rog. "Roger Thorpe has this strange & powerful hold over Holly. She is
like some damned moth to his damned flame & if she's not here, she's with
him," he insists.

MOVIES: The movie ends & the lights come up. Holly has tears on her
cheek. The usher (an older woman) has some choice words about Italian
movies. They discuss the gorgeousness of Italian men. The usher asks
Holly what's bothering her. Maybe she got fired, or lost a boyfriend?
This seems to hit a nerve & the usher keeps going, echoing what Holly
must be feeling -- like you can't go to work & you can't go home... it's
like you don't belong anywhere. She figures Holly needs a quiet place to
sit & think & says she can stay in the theater as long as she likes.

LEWIS HOUSE: Josh says Mindy could call the adoption agency & tell them
she & Nick can't take the baby. Mindy is already so attached to this baby
she's never seen. Josh says things could still work out with Nick if
that's what she really wants. This seems to cheer her up. She says she is
thinking of naming the baby Martha Louise, after Josh's mom. She runs
upstairs as Josh smiles.

Annie rings the doorbell. When Josh answers, she says she's visiting as
part of Cedars home care service. She carries a shopping bag & Josh asks
what's in it. "Therapy," she smiles.

DINER: AM wants to know why Lucy has dragged him to the diner & wants to
know what happened to his meeting with Taggart. Lucy says it was post-
poned til 6 p.m. AM had a squash game scheduled for that time & is
furious. He still doesn't know why they're at the diner. Lucy says she
has to pick up her hot rollers & starts in on a long, Nadine-like
explanation that sends AM's head spinning. He begs her to stop. Nadine
starts chatting with AM while Lucy makes a quick phone call to Alan. He
tells her to "just get here." Lucy hangs up & looks worriedly at AM.

LEWIS HOUSE: Annie makes small talk, then hands him his "therapy
package." Josh takes a pair of loose, flowing, tie-dyed pants from the
bag. He thinks they're clown pants but Annie calls them "happening." She
says they're very popular with young people. Josh gets that they're some-
thing "this not-so-young person" can get on over his cast. Annie objects
to his adjective & tells him the nurses consider him "prime." Still, Josh
can't quite see himself wearing the pants. Annie figures he won't
consider her second proposal either, i.e., "something together, sometime,
like tonight." Josh figures out that she's asking him on a date.

COUNTRY CLUB: At the bar, Nick explains that he & Mindy gave Fletch's
name to the adoption agency as a reference & Fletch might be hearing from
them soon. Nick hopes that the idea of having a baby will help he & Mindy
get their act together. He knows he loves Mindy, but doesn't know how she
feels. He asks Fletch to tell the agency that he & Mindy are really
committed, really solid, man. "You want me to lie for you?" asks Fletch.

Elsewhere, Alan tells Glenn Taggart that his support of AM is very
important. Taggart assures Alan that the entire board is behind AM.

DINER: AM sits in a booth & chats with Stavros. He decides to order a
cheeseburger. Lucy worries that AM is getting too comfortable. Nadine
walks over & chats with AM about her career while Lucy makes another
phone call. Stavros brings AM his cheeseburger. Lucy rushes over & tells
AM he's going to be late for his meeting. AM tries to figure out what's
bothering Lucy, but she just insists that they have to leave.

COUNTRY CLUB: Alex joins Fletch & Nick. Fletch decides it's time to
leave. Alex asks if he's still angry for her. She claims to be "}almost
completely out of Spaulding" & Fletch is cynical about it lasting. Before
he leaves, Fletch tells Nick he'll do the requested favor. Fletch exits,
& Nick tells Alex about the pending adoption. He says the agency may send
someone by the house to ask questions & asks Alex to cover for them. She
asks if he & Mindy are back together & he says they're working on it.

LEWIS HOUSE: Annie finds it hysterically funny that Josh thought she was
asking him on a date. She was just asking him to play pool. He accepts
her challenge, whether it's a date or not. Annie suggests they meet at
the pool hall at 9 p.m. They shake on it & Annie crushes Josh's hand with
her grip. Exit Annie. Josh talks to his clown pants as Mindy descends the
stairs. "You're not going to wear those, are you?" asks the horror-struck
fashion designer. Indeed he is. "You got a problem with that?" he asks.

COUNTRY CLUB: Lucy & AM arrive. He asks what the hell they're doing
there, then spots Taggart & wonders where he's going. Alex, then Alan,
greet AM. Alan says there are some people from the business community
waiting to meet him. AM seems a tad upset at being set up, but Alan takes
all the blame. AM is actually pretty impressed with Lucy & asks if he can
escort her into the party, strictly business, of course. She declines,
claiming she has a date. AM goes in alone, not quite believing her.
Applause sounds as AM walks into the party & Lucy makes an odd face.

JOURNAL: Mindy tells Nick she's been thinking a lot about the baby &
about their relationship. So has he. "Do you think we could be a family
again?" she asks plaintively. Nick is sure about it, but Mindy is more
hesistant. She does want to take the next step & go to the adoption
agency together. Nick gives her a hug, but she looks a bit uncomfortable
in his arms & Nick looks worried.

Fletch sips his drink & thinks of Holly. Split screen to Holly watching
the movie again. Then Fletch's face is replaced by Roger, who is telling
his "master" that he can't get the thought of "this man" out of his mind.

RICE PAPER ROOM: Rog says it's no use, even though he's loved Holly all
his life. The master fears for Rog because he is being "guided by revenge
more than love." Close up on Rog... his face quivers as though he might
cry. "Who are you???" he asks in pain as the screen fades to black.
