GUIDING LIGHT TGIF UPDATE -- FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1995

Special thanks to Wendy, without whom this update would not have been
possible.

HIGHLIGHTS
* Blake & Ross narrate while Ross worries about getting a life.
* Sid introduces Gilly to his brother.
* Rog leaves Holly in frustration.
* Fletch is lovesick.
* Lucy has conflicting feelings about AM (so what else is new?)

8 AM in Springfield USA...

MARLER HOUSE: Blake & Ross enjoy some coffee in their bedroom. The
newspaper headline says the 5th St. fire was started accidentally. Ross
is peeved because it means Blake no longer has a case to work on & he is
out a client. He concludes they're useless because they live through
other people's lives. Blake thinks other people's lives can be quite
fascinating, & points to the article about AM taking over at Spaulding.
As the Marlers debate AM's fate in a voice-over, the image shifts to...

SPAULDING ENTERPRISES: AM & Lucy struggle with some paperwork as Ross
predicts that AM will be ground up in the Spaulding machine. "He may
think he's in charge, but he's not." Ross is glad he's free of the
Spauldings. Blake says Nick is also glad to be free of them, as the scene
shifts to...

FLETCHER'S APT: Fletcher, Nick & Ben having breakfast. It's a raucous
scene. "Once a Spaulding, always a Spaulding," predicts Ross. Blake's not
so sure, but worries that Nick won't be happy unless he gets back with
Mindy. "Roughing it" with Fletch can't be fun. Now Fletch is someone who
needs a life, continues Blake. His is obviously so empty that he was
ravenous for gossip about Holly & Roger. Close-up on Fletch's morose fase
as the scene shifts to...

HOLLY'S COTTAGE: Holly studiously avoiding Roger as they go about their
morning routine. Ross warns Blake to stay out of her parents' problems.
Blake can't help worrying. She recalls the romantic evening she helped
Rog prepare for his proposal, when Holly turned him down flat. Ross
thinks maybe it's good that Holly's having second thoughts. "Ow!" he
cries, in reaction to what must have been a punch from Blake. If Ross is
right, Blake doesn't understand why her parents are living together
again. And in separate bedrooms, no less. Blake is sure Holly is hiding
something. Ross thinks her own mother would tell her. Did Sid tell his
attorney he was exonerated in the 5th St. fire? asks Blake pointedly as
the scene shifts to...

SID'S APT: Sid lying in bed, Gilly in his arms. Ross thinks everyone is
getting on with their lives except him & Blake. The scene returns to...

MARLER BEDROOM: Ross thinks nothing will happen to them until someone
comes to their door with another problem. He wants to stop waiting for
things to happen, strike out on their own. "How?" asks Blake. Ross
doesn't know. He asks if Blake has any ideas. She suggests he start by
removing his jammies.

SID'S APT: Gilly asks Sid what he's thinking about. "Nothing," he evades,
then remembers a fight he had with his youngest brother back when he was
13 or 14. And it was Gilly's fault. Her picture was in the school
newspaper & Sid cut it out, pasted it in a notebook, drew a frame around
it & started to write a poem to go along with it. His brother found it &
tore it out & Sid chased him. He tackled his brother, retrieved the
picture & made him swear never to tell anyone about it. Gilly asks where
Sid's brother is. Sid is silent. When he finally speaks, it's to say that
he still has that picture of Gilly packed away in a box somewhere. Gilly
thinks Sid needs some sleep & goes to fix them some breakfast. Sid stares
at the broken trophy.

FLETCH'S APT: Ben grabs his knapsack & Fletch gives him a hard time about
his inside-out sweatshirt & torn jeans. Nick explains that it's a "look."
Ben leaves for school & Fletch says he's not feeling well & will work at
home today. Nick tries to get some info about various stories underway at
the paper & Fletch insists he's on top of it. "I am at one with the
Information Superhighway," he announces. He can get everything done from
home without even ironing a shirt. "Oh man," comments Nick. "She's really
under your skin, isn't she?"

HOLLY'S APT: Rog stares at Holly like she's a science experiment & she
begs him to stop. He doesn't know what to do. He doesn't understand
Holly. "You want me here, but you don't want me in there (the bedroom)
with you. Do you have any idea what it's doing to me?" Rog says he paced
all night, wishing Holly would want him as much as he wanted her. He's
been having erotic fantasies about her, about them. "It is making me
crazy not being able to touch you." Holly doesnt' know what to do. Rog
practically begs her to let him be close to her. She lets him take her in
his arms & kiss her. "I do love you," she admits.

Rog kisses Holly again as he tells her he wants her back, now. She says
they both have to get to work. Rog says they're not going anywhere til
they get to the bottom of what's going on. He feels a wall between them &
Holly's putting it up. She says he's imagining it. "What are you afraid
of?" Rog asks. Is it him? She vows that it's not. "Why do you want me
living her with you when you don't want me near you?" Rog thinks maybe
she's just punishing him. She swears she's not trying to do that. Rog is
very frustrated because he doesn't know what he's fighting. He believes
she loves him, but where do they go from here?

FLETCH'S APT: Fletch insists that he has a cold & tells Nick to forget he
ever mentioned Holly. "She made her decision; it's over; we're history."
Nick is doubtful & thinks Fletch is hiding out. Fletch says he can't go
back & watch Holly ruin her life. When Rog came by the other day, all
Fletch could think about was the two of them together. Then Blake told
him they were having problems & it created a million questions in his
head. He tells Nick about how he tortured Holly by almost telling Rog
about them. "I hate the lies & I hate the games. I'm mad! I'm hurt. I'm
jealous." He thinks about Holly all the time. Nick didn't realize it was
this bad. He promises to hold down the fort until Fletch is up to it.

SPAULDING: AM screams for Lucy. She comes running in, asking what's the
matter. He acts like he's all angry with her, but then he gives her a big
hug, exclaiming that because of her, they got the Donovan Tool bid -- $20
million. She shares his excitement, then asks what her cut is. "A roast
beef on rye at the corner deli," he promises. She backs off a bit,
feeling somewhat uncomfortable with all the hugging. AM suggests another
dance atop his desk & turns the music on loud.

Alex & Alan arrive in the reception area & Alan thanks Alex for being so
understanding about his son being president instead of hers. AM takes his
position very seriously, he adds. He opens the door to AM's office to the
sight of AM & Lucy dancing madly on the desk.

HOLLY'S APT: Rog says he can't go on as they have been. He's going to
move out. Holly doesn't want him to. "Then give me a reason to stay!" he
explodes. Holly holds her head as if she has a migraine coming on.

SID'S APT: Ross & Blake are out in the hallway with a beribboned bottle
of champagne. Ross says this wasn't his idea of starting a new life.
Blake says life should be an adventure, then cringes at a noise that
might have been a gunshot. Ross decides they should just leave the bottle
with a note.

Inside, Sid is about to sneak out with his coat when Gilly catches him.
He says he doesn't have time to argue & opens the door. Ross & Blake are
right there & Gilly invites them in. Sid is acting like he's in a hurry.
Ross tells him he got the dumpster fire charges reduced to criminal
mischief, so Sid won't have to appear in court, but he will have to serve
1 year of community service. Gilly hands Sid a glass of champagne & tells
him it's all over. Everyone toasts Sid, but he's not too enthusiastic. He
thinks things in the neighborhood will go back to the way they've always
been. Ross & Blake leave & Gilly asks Sid where he's going. He promises
to be back in an hour. He has to take care of one last detail. Gilly
wants to know what's going on. Sid is worried they will reopen the
investigation & is worried about his brother. He invites Gilly to come
with him & she grabs her coat.

HOLLY'S APT: Rog stands at the door with his bags & asks Holly if she'll
be OK. "I don't want to leave," he admits. "Then don't," she pleads. Rog
says she can't have it both ways. "When you really want me, call." Holly
dejectedly watches him leave.

SPAULDING: Alan looks disapprovingly at his son & Lucy, then asks Lucy to
turn of the "racket." AM belays the order, saying it relaxes him. If Alan
doesn't like it, he can make an appt for the afternoon, when it will be
quieter. "Right now, I'm a little busy," AM says. Alex turns off the
music. Lucy offers coffee & runs out of the room. Alan stares at his son,
then smiles at him. "You're learning, son." AM winks back at him. Alex is
confused. She doesn't remember Brandon ever taking off his shoes &
dancing on the desk. Alex asks the boys to fill her in. Alan says AM is
exploring his "parameters of power." Alan promises to make an appointment
in the future. AM asks if they're interested in the contract he just
closed. Alan declines, but Alex is interested. Alan leaves them alone.

In the reception area, Alan takes Lucy up on her offer of coffee. He asks
if she can keep a secret, but she admits she's not very good at that sort
of thing. Alan says it concerns AM -- he's planning a surprise, black-tie
affair for AM & wants Lucy to get AM there. Lucy says AM hates surprises
& besides, her relationshiop with AM is strictly professional. Alan never
doubted that. Lucy fumblingly explains that they used to be closer, but
now they're not. Alan ignores her & writes down the time & place of the
event & gives the paper to Lucy. He leaves & Lucy sighs.

SID'S APT: Sid calls to his brother, who has apparently been in the
apartment the whole time. Sid's plan is to get him out of town, because
the drug dealers he helped nail will be after him otherwise. He's sending
his brother to some obscure place downstate. Sid's brother finally shows
his face, wheeling into the room in a wheelchair, a basketball on his
lap. The young man smiles up at Gilly with a cocky grin.

The brother, "Roof," charms the pants off Gilly. His real name is
Wallace, but he got his nickname when he played basketball. It turns out
that one of the guys after Roof right now was just put in jail. He's the
guy who put Roof in a wheelchair in the first place, in a drive-by
shooting. Roof tosses Sid his basketball & makes him promise to practice
his free-throws. The two men share a hug.

SPAULDING: Lucy seems concerned about something as she sits at her desk &
listens to AM talking on his speakerphone. When the call's over, she
enters his office to make it perfectly clear that she took the job
because it was a great opportunity & not for any other reason. AM is OK
with this. Lucy leaves, as though she had expected more of an argument.
Outside, she looks concerned again.

MARLER HOUSE: Rog wants to talk to Blake for a moment. Ross protests, but
agrees to wait in the car. Blake starts to make the bed, then sees that
Rog looks awful. He fills her in & asks if she knows what's going on with
Holly. Blake is clueless, but implores him not to give up. Rog asks Blake
if she'll talk to Holly. "Maybe she'll tell you what's going on with
her," suggests Rog. "Maybe it's you, did you ever think of that?" asks
Ross from the other side of the closed door. Rog is peeved & wonders why
Ross doesn't have anything better to do than eavesdropping. Rog leaves,
but on his way out, advises Ross to get a life. Ross makes a gesture that
seems to say, even Rog can tell we have no lives of our own!

Blake tells Ross he can't measure his life against other people's,
because he'll just end up frustrating himself. "At the end of the day, I
just want to feel like I got somewhere," whines Ross. Blake reminds
himthat it's only 11 AM & they've already had a champagne brunch in a
dangerous neighborhood. Who knows what will happen next? She drags him
into the bedroom & closes the door.

SID'S APT: In voice-over mode, Blake wonders where Sid was rushing off to
earlier, as Sid & Gilly return. Blake thinks they should have followed
Sid, but Ross says they can't pry. Sid opens the coat closet & picks up
his brother's basketball. In between kisses, Blake wonders who Sid was
protecting. She admires the way he was able to keep his mouth shut, even
when the charges were piling up. Ross says to forget it; they've got to
get on with their own lives. Sid is the only one who will ever know.
Gilly sits beside Sid & puts her arm around him. Blake is still curious.
"I stilllove a big mystery," she admits, as the scene shifts to...

SPAULDING: Lucy opens a fortune cookie, reads the fortune, then wads it
up & tosses it in the trash. She starts to open another one as a slinky
brunette enters the reception area. Blake & Ross are chatting on in the
background about whether it's good to trust your instincts. Blake says if
you get too emotionally involved, it blinds you completely. Lucy picks up
the phone & announces the brunette's arrival. Blake says you can never
make assumptions about anyone, as AM comes out of his office & gives the
brunette a big hug, then walks out with her. "Always expect the
unexpected and you'll never be disappointed," advises Blake. Lucy
dejectedly waves goodbye at AM's back as the scene shifts to...

SPRINGFIELD JOURNAL: As Rog enters, Ross says there's an exception to
Blake's rule, and it's her father. Ross is sure he has Rog figured out.
He's totally consistent, totally self-absorbed & totally thoughtless. He
thinks Rog has put Blake in an impossible position in terms of being
therapist & matchmaker to her own parents. Rog sits down at Holly's desk
& starts going through the drawers. Blake tells Ross he's just upset
because Rog told him to get a life. "Well, he's right," replies Ross, but
thinks Rog needs to do the same & let them & Holly get on with their own
lives. Nick enters the office & gives Rog a dirty look as the scene
shifts to...

FLETCH'S APT: As Fletch types on his computer, Blake worries about her
mom. Ross asks if it's possible that Holly might be seeing another man.
Fletch goes to open the door & Holly's standing there. Blake scoffs at
Ross's suggestion & tells him to get a life. Holly smiles her quirky, "I
can't help myself" smile at Fletch as the screen fades to black.
