                        GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE
                     Tuesday, January 21, 1997

                Cedars 60th Anniversary Ball--Day Two
(With Brief Forays To The Guiding Light House)

All scenes at the Springfield Country Club, unless otherwise noted.

Overhead shots of couples dancing to "Let's Fall in Love." Cut to close up
of Jeff and Jenna chatting about their plan. She's reluctant. Alex pushes
Alan and chair into the scene and Jenna wants to exit.

Hart and Dinah chat; Josh and Annie dance as Annie's eyes follow Reva and
Fran outside to the terrace. Reva wants to know why Annie doesn't want
Fran to talk to her.

Annie makes excuses to leave Josh (she and the BABY are thirsty) so she can
go outside to spy on Fran and Reva. She is intercepted by Philip who
demands they dance.

Outside Reva tells Fran she overheard the entire conversation between Fran
and Annie in the bathroom. Fran says Annie just feels threatened by Reva
and that she would do anything to protect her marriage.

Jenna tells Jeff she's uncomfortable around Buzz, but Jeff feels it's more
likely the Spauldings who are upsetting her. Enter Buzz who wants to dance
with Jenna. She escapes to chat with Hart.

Meta chats with Rick and Abby. Enter Ross and Blake for their cameo
appearance. Enter Mike Bauer; Ross introduces him to Blake; Rick
introduces Abby. Mike asks about Michelle.

SEGUE TO LIGHTHOUSE: Zachary is very busy doing whatever he does all day
long. Enter Michelle. He's cold to her, telling her he was wrong to run
off with her and that they have no future. She's crushed.

Meanwhile, back on the terrace, Reva assures Fran Josh is his own person
and she doesn't control him.

Jeff and Alex dance. He claims to be an entrepreneur from Colorado and
asks why she's wearing rhinestones instead of diamonds. She says it wasn't
so long ago she was robbed and she feels safer in fake jewels. He inquires
after her insurance...

Jenna chats with Vivian asking if she and Charles still live up on the
hill. Vivian says no they've moved to Morningside, a private residence.

Buzz and Harley say hello to Lucy and both mention Nadine. Josh and Harley
smile shyly at each other across a crowded room.

Reenter Fran who comes upon Philip and Annie. Annie again requests a soda
for her and the BABY, and Philip departs. Annie cross examines Fran and
the two argue. Annie's distressed to learn Reva overheard all.

ANOTHER LIGHTHOUSE BREAK, as Zachary insists he's not the guy she thinks he
is. He's fixated on repairing THE LIGHT. She begs him not to shut her out
but he says it's over. She cries and runs the other way.

Meanwhile, back at the Country Club, enter J-No-Dot and Bridget. She's
having trouble being admitted because she can't produce her invitation.
Finally Quinten and Nola rescue her.

Harley and Josh go out on the terrace to chat. After polite hellos, Harley
cuts to the chase, demanding to know why he isn't with Reva, especially
since she's broken her father's heart. He tries to evade specifics, but
finally admits he feels he has to stay with Annie since she's pregnant.
Finally Harley understands (and forgives him a little bit) but she reminds
him he isn't doing Annie any favors by staying with her when he doesn't
love her. Josh says she must have talked with Billy.

Cut to Bridget who looks alone and unhappy, despite a pretty blue gown and
Little-Bo-Peep banana curls.

Up on the stairway, Rick presents Abby with a present--an heirloom that
belonged to Bert that he received via Meta. (For the life of me, I can't
figure out what it is--a pin??? a hair comb???) Whatever it is, Abby is
quite taken by it and they kiss.

Annie confronts Reva in front of Josh, accusing her of doing something
behind her back. Reva's confused; Josh is his usual
"please-don't-anyone-make-a-scene-so-that-people-will-think-badly-of-me"
self; Annie prances around holding her abdomen and interjecting BABY into
the confrontation as often as possible. Finally Reva leaves in a snit and
Annie smiles as she hugs Josh.

Lillian and Mike chat with Charles as Griffin peers at the crowd from the
staircase. Enter Marcus and Dahlia, who are rather cold to Griff. Enter
Holly and Fletcher, who try to beg Griff to write a weekly column for the
Journal. He's reluctant, but Fletcher pushes hard.

Marcus and Dinah chat with Dinah and Hart. Dinah's had too much to drink
and gets very defensive about having a good time. Jenna tries
unsuccessfully to avoid Buzz, running into Alan and Alex. Then she tries
to dance with Buzz to avoid the greater evil--Alan Spaulding. Finally Buzz
and Alex dance, leaving Alan to quiz Jenna about her baby. Roger stares at
Jenna from afar; Amanda wants to know who she is and does he want to talk
to her. Roger declines and the two prepare to leave the party.

The three Europeans (especially Jean Luc) stare at Dinah from afar.
Dinah's given Hart the boot (even though he's gone out of his way not to
fight with her). Finally Jean Luc approaches Dinah and Hart exits as
Bridget smiles nearby. Jean Luc and Dinah tango dramatically while Dahlia
tells Marcus she will never understand why Dinah is his best friend.

THE FINAL LIGHTHOUSE SEGUE finds Zachary standing outside in the fog and
rain, refastening his infamous bracelet. Michelle still isn't giving up,
even as he tells her they would never have worked out because REAL LIFE
would have gotten in the way. He hopes someday she will forgive him and
NOW SHE SHOULD GO!!! They kiss passionately, interrupted by a distress
signal from a boat.

Meanwhile back at the ball, Jenna admits to Alan that she never told Buzz
about the baby, adding that she lost the child. Alan expresses regret and
she leaves, followed by Hart's stares.

Frank approaches Harley and demands to know what she is REALLY doing at the
ball, since she obviously isn't having any fun. She tries to put him off,
but finally admits she is "working" at the party. She's employed by an
insurance company as an investigator and she's here to catch a thief.

Hart, standing next to a happy Bridget, stares at Dinah and Jean Luc on the
dance floor. Reva, who's finally had enough good behavior for one night,
joins Billy in out-tangoing Dinah and Jean Luc. Josh stares in envy and
Annie's anger resurfaces.
