  to MOMMYDEAREST

Let the Show Begin

PARIS, FRANCE :
Josh is in a small cafe and dials the phone.
He gets a busy signal, and murmurs "Reva."

MOD-REVABENT :
Reva is getting off the phone, and is disgusted
that she is getting nowhere fast in finding out
the fate of her half-sib. Buzz wants to help, but
Rev says all the records of St. Agnes burned years
ago. Buzz tells her to let her "dialing fingers"
take a rest while he makes the calls. Rev is very
appreciative, but Buzz thinks this is what married
people are supposed to do--isn't it for better or
worse?

REGENCY HOTEL : JENNA'S SUITE :
Jenna is carrying little Henry and tells him it looks
like their stay will be shorter than she expected. There
is a knock at the door, and she thinks it is the bellboy
picking up the bags. It is Matt, who tells her that he
knows her secret and must talk to her before she leaves
town. He knows she left SF preggers with Buzz's baby and
that she never told him.

LUCERNE : VANVENT :
VANVENT (with thanks to Allan E.) is motionless on her bed
and a penguin enters and puts the frame containing pictures
of Matt and her kids in her limp hands. Van sighs, and thinks
she was right to keep this from her darlings.

FARM :
Rog meets Leo near the stables and wants to know what he has
found out about Van. Leo (getting a conscience perhaps) won't
tell until he finds out what Rog plans for Van. Rog gives him
the look.

TWIRL LIGHTHOUSE

SONNYBOY FARM :
Leo just wants to get it straight: didn't Rog want his divorce
to Di dragged out _and_ now he wants it expedited so he can
marry Amanda Spaulding? Rog says, "That's my boy, Leo. Keep up."
Leo says he can't figure why Rog now wants to run off after Van.
Rog wonders how much time he figured it would take to break up
his son and "that little tramp he's engaged to?" Rog has set
things into motion, and Di will do the rest. As for his
engagement to Mandy, it may be the smartest idea for a comeback
he's ever had. This brings him back to Vanessa Reardon--all
of SF including her family thinks she is dead. Rog has to
spell it out: her family is rich, close to the Spauldings and
Di is her precious daughter. Leo gets it: "All paths lead to
Vanessa." Rog is going to use her to tie up everyone into a
bow and he is going to come out on top where he belongs. Leo
tells him Van is in Lucerne, a patient at the Sisters of Charity
convent on Lake Lucerne. Rog can't believe it--he was just there.

COMPANY :
Jet is working while Hart follows her around complaining about
Di's friends--they aren't his kind of people. Jet wonders if
he let them kick him out of his own place [forgetting Di sold
it to him for a buck]. Hart's picked a tough path with Di because
she isn't like them--sensible and responsible. Hart says her
differences are why he fell in love with her. Jet says he can
always discuss his problems with her. Lady Di enters and gets
in a huff. She came to make up, but guesses that was a mistake.

I'VE NICKNAMED HIM COOP :
Matt is introduced to the baby, and tells him he was named
after Henry since his Mommy loved big Henry so much. Jenna
explains Henry is a very grownup name, so she has nicknamed
the kid Coop. Matt tells her he has a letter written to her
before Van died, which came back returned to sender. Jenna is
not surprised since she hasn't been near a postbox lately.
She is very peeved saying, "It looks like it's been opened.
Who opened it?" Matt confesses that it was like having a part
of Van come back to him, and he wanted to know what was on
her mind shortly before she died. He tries to give it to her,
but refuses saying, "Since you've already read it please no,
I don't want it. Perhaps you could read it to me. Matt does.
"Dear Jenna,
I don't know if you'll ever receive this letter but it's the
last address I have for you so I'm hoping it's where you and
baby Henry still are. I keep remembering your wonderful phone
call the Christmas day Henry was born. You'll never know how
much it means to me that you named your son for my Father.
Daddy would have been very proud. Recently I've found myself
thinking more and more about you and how you felt when you
left Springfield for what I truly hope won't be forever."
[Matt sits down next to a weeping Jenna on the couch].
"I know that at the time you felt you couldn't tell Buzz you
were carrying his child [Matt takes her hand] because you
didn't want to come between him and Nadine. You said you
couldn't fight their kind of love and you respected it too
much to try. Nadine is gone now and I believe in my heart of
hearts Buzz would be thrilled to learn he has a son."
[Van's voice cuts in, with Matt's still heard in the background].
"There was a time when I would have done anything to keep
Peter's paternity secret from Hart. I was too afraid of what
the truth would do to my family--the pain it would cause. I
learned that the real pain comes from keeping a secret like
that. Now that the truth is finally out, I can truthfully say
all of our lives have been much happier for it. I wish you
could see Hart and Peter together. Theirs is a very special
relationship, the kind only a father and son can share.
I truly believe your baby has a right to know who his father
is. He's a child that was born of love, the great love that
you and Buzz shared. Buzz Cooper has a right to be part of
his son's life. I trust that deep inside you know what you
must do, the real truth, and when the time is right your
heart will lead you to it.
Love always,
Vanessa"
Matt tells Jenna she must tell Buzz the truth. If she doesn't
she'll be making the biggest mistake of her life. Jenna is
weeping, and puts her head on Matt's shoulder.

WE GOT LUCKY :
Buzz is thanking a lady on the phone, and signs off in Greek.
He tells Reva they got a break--the lady has been there 30
years, and is going to make some calls on their behalf. She
will get back to them. Rev thanks him profusely, but Buzz
thinks it's all part of the marriage license. Rev says not
always, but Buzz doesn't want to hear about her other
marriages. Dylan comes downstairs carrying a bag. Reva hopes
he isn't leaving so soon, but to her dismay [and mine] he
says he is. Rev talks him into sharing a cuppa. Buzz goes
off on an errand. Dylan says ole Buzz is a pretty good guy--
but what is the problem?

DIRT DIALOG :
Di and Jet share jabs. Hart reprimands Di telling her Jet is
a good person. Di isn't buying it--if Jet says anything
remotely good about her, it is because she knows that is
what Hart wants to hear. Hart protests that isn't Jet's style
[more fool he]. Di says she came to make up and tell Hart he
is the most important person in her life. Hart wonders if
she is sure that their life together is what she really wants?

MOMMA TALK TO HUNK-O-SON :
Reva protests that she and Buzz are happy. Dylan says Buzz
seems happy but she seems ... Rev says she has had a lot on
her mind lately. Josh, wonders Dylan. He points out when
he mentioned Josh the other day Rev got all up tight. Rev
says that's the way it is with ex-husbands, but Dylan points
out that's not the way it is with Billy. Rev changes the
subject by asking what he has been up to. How did things go
with Bridget? Dylan says whatever he and Jet had is not there
anymore. Hart is back in town, and Jet wants them all to be
one big happy family. Rev says she understood that Jet loved
Dylan very much and that that love probably isn't completely
dead--it just needs to be rekindled. Dyl says that isn't going
to happen. What about Jeva--they were the perfect couple that
everyone thought would last forever? "Guess forever isn't
that long, is it?"

MATT DROPS CRYPTIC CLUES :
Jenna wonders if Matt knows something about Buzz's seemingly
blissful marriage that he isn't telling. Does he really think
Beva would be happy to know about another child? Matt says
something lame about how you never know how people will
react. Matt says she doesn't know everything there is to know
about the situation. Jenna complains that he is being very
cryptic. Matt says that Van told him that Jenna and Buzz had
a very special love, and Jenna says it was once in a lifetime.
Jenna takes Coop into the other room to change before the flight,
and asks Matt to pick up the scattered toys in the livingroom.
Just as he finishes hiding the evidence, there is a knock.
Your cue, Buzz.

HALF-TIME

COME ON, BRADSHAW, I'M NOT BUDGING :
Buzz and Matt discuss why Matt is there. Jenna comes out
and Buzz catches the tail end of her comment about drowsiness.
Buzz thinks she is referring to herself. Matt goes into the
other room, saying he needs to make a private call. Buzz
wants to know what Jenna wanted to say in the diner before
she disappeared. Jenna wonders how he found her, and he
says that's where she'd always go when they had a fight at
the firehouse. Jenna compliments him on how well he's looking,
and Buzz says same to you, Petula. He complains that he'd
thought they'd gotten beyond small talk. He is puzzled and
isn't going to budge until she spills the beans about her
important news.

PEOPLE CHANGE :
Reva protests that she and Josh are different. Dylan says
he can't forget how hard they fought for each other and
Josh's reaction when she went off the bridge. Their love
was so deep it seemed endless. He couldn't believe it when
she told him she married Buzz. Rev lamely says, "Times
change. People change." Dylan says if Jeva couldn't make
it, Dyjet sure can't. Rev says that he can't compare.
Dylan says Rev can't have it both ways; you and Josh are
history but he should have faith in a first love. He
insists that he is ok with it. Rev says she is sorry. Jet
doesn't know what she is missing. [That's for sure! Her
taste is all in her mouth! Come on Momma, can't you at
least tell SonnyBoy that you and Josh aren't history so
we can keep him around!]

DIRT CONVO CONTINUES :
Di is still trying to convince Hart of her devotion--"If
I were any crazier about you, they'd have to give me
Rog's old room in the loony bin." Hart says the issue is
not whether they love each other, it's whether they can
make a life together. Di thinks they need time alone,
and offers to give her friends the boot. She swears they
are just fond memories; her life now is Hart and Pedie.
They smooch.

GUESS WHO'S KNOCKING AT MY DOOR? :
Reva is demanding cards, calls and visits. Dylan
promises he will be back soon. As he goes out,
who is at the door but PsychoAnnie! Rev intros
her to Dylan. A horn honks and he takes off.
He wants Rev to remember him to Josh. Rev gives
Annie a hard look. "So Annie, what do you want?"
Annie chirps that she's come for Marah and Shayne.
Coldly, Reva says, "No, no, you're not. I'm not
going to let you do that."

YOU RANG, MADAM :
DIRT is now outside at the farm. Di is remembering
one of the best afternoons she spent with Van,
and Van's love of blackcurrant tea. Mostly they
talked about Hart, and what a great kisser he is.
Di asks Hart to send Jean-Luc out alone so she
can explain things, and let him save face.
Hart thinks she should have been a diplomat.
He enters trilling "Jean-Luc." JL comes out
on the porch. Di informs him that he's overstayed
his welcome. Hart has a farm to run, and she is
his right hand. JL says he thought she was a leftie.
[Oh no, as a proud leftie, I reject Di as a possible
member of the club]. JL wonders if she wants him to
go, or is she obeying her fiance?

VANVENT :
The nun comes in and tells Van that the doctor thinks
she needs to be moved to another facility that can
take care of her new needs. Van will be moved by
ambulance tonight. I think that the new place is
in Berne. Van tells the sister she will be ready
to travel.

Rog :
Rog is on what appears to be a private jet [the
Spaulding jet already?] He babbles about the
beautiful Swiss Alps, and tells Van it won't
be long!

VISITORS ARE LIKE FISH :
Di reminds JL of the old saying, 1 are like
fish--after a few days they stink. JL prefers
to compare himself to fine wine. He tries to
put moves on Di. She tells him he is no longer
welcome in her home. JL laments that she used to
be her own woman. He had a devil of a time keeping
up with her--she was formidable. Di thinks she
still is, but JL says she is now a woman trying
to change herself for a man. She is perfection,
and any man who can't see that doesn't deserve her.
Di tells him to change the record; she's engaged.
JL says that marriage vows now don't require a
woman to obey. Di protests that Hart loves and
respects her. JL says that when a man loves her,
he only asks for love--any more makes her a
servant.

PSYCHOPSEUDOMOMMY ANNIE RIDES AGAIN :
Annie tells Rev that she understands her hesitation,
but the truth is Josh called to say he's coming
home tonight and asked her to pick up the kids.
Rev coldly says that she hasn't heard that. The
phone rings. It is Josh at the French cafe. He
tells Rev he has been trying to call, but has
gotten a busy signal. Rev asks if he is coming
home. Tonight says Josh, and he can hardly
wait. Rev says she guesses he'll want the kids
and Josh says it would be great. He's missed
them, and her too. Josh tells her how strange
it's been to be in Europe so soon after Sarah
died--he feels like he's been in limbo.
[Right, Bud, and now you're coming back to Hell!]
He can't stop thinking about Reva. Rev guardedly
says that she knows what he means, and informs
him Annie is there. She puts her on. Annie goes
into overdrive chirping about how great it is
to hear his voice twice in one day, about how
she's getting the kids, and preparing him a
special supper. Poor Josh says he will be home
pretty late. She gushes, "Oh, Josh, I missed you
so much and so has the baby [hands on womb].
I missed your hand on my belly as we fall
asleep at night. Hurry home." A sick looking
Josh says that he will see her soon. Rev
asks Annie how she has been feeling. Annie
babbles about her nesting hormones, and
how she wants to keep her hubby close
[and presumably under her thumb]. Rev
looks pretty skeptical.

I CALL IT MY BUZZ LINE :
Buzz is worried and puzzled. He says Jenna
has that look she has when she has something
serious to say. Jenna asks what look, and
he says it is the line between her eyes.
Jenna says she calls that her buzz line,
or at least she used to. Buzz has made too
much out of something simple. She just wanted
to get together with Buzz and his stunning
wife and take them out to dinner at the
Towers the next time she was in town. She
throws him out saying she has a plane to
catch. Buzz still looks worried. Matt comes
out of the bedroom, saying that Coop is
sleeping like a champ. He bets Buzz would
like to see that. Jenna says she can't
tell him, and it wouldn't make a difference.
Matt says that she doesn't buy that anymore
than he does.

BACK TO THE FARM :
Jean Luc tells Di he loves her, and kisses
her. Hart sees this and is shocked.

TOO BAD ANNIE HEARD THAT CALL :
Buzz returns to ModRevaBent. The lady
from St. Agnes calls. Annie is all
ears, as Buzz and Reva stand by the
phone. Buzz says they got a lucky
break--he's at the Shady Lane Rest
Home in Chicago. [I'm not sure if
Annie knows they are talking about
a doctor]. Beva get Annie to take
the kids off their hands. Annie
tells them to have fun with their "your
Mother's friend." They get ready to go.
Reva tells the sky: "Oh, Momma, pretty
soon I'm going to meet the brother I
never knew I had." They put on their
coats and leave.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY :
Jenna is on the balcony, cursing about
how she has missed her flight. Matt
thinks it's a good thing because now
she'll be able to tell Buzz about
his son. Jenna insists that she is
not going to be responsible for
hurting Buzz. Matt says if he is hurt,
it's not necessarily her fault. Jenna
complains that he is being cryptic
again. [Why the hell is he so reluctant
to spill the beans--loyalty to Josh?]
If he knows something about Beva he
should tell her. All she can see is that
Buzz is as happy as he has ever been.
She goes to Coop. Matt puts on his very
attractive trench coat, and says bye.
In parting, he tells Jenna that whenever
he and Van had troubles it was because
he was keeping something from her. The
truth always comes out [I wonder what
Jenna reaction would be to the stud
story?]. He gives Jenna the letter, and
tells her that it is good advice. He
leaves. Jenna picks up the baby. "Oh,
Henry Cooper, I just can't tell Buzz.
I just can't do it. I'm so sorry."
[If Jenna was reluctant to break
up Nadine and Buzz, why did she come
back to town without knowing that
Nadine was dead?]

VANVENT :
A man enters. Van asks if it is time.
Rog says, "You could say that."
Vanessa opens her eyes. Hello Vanessa,
says Roger. "Oh my God, it is you. It
was you I heard on the terrace a few
weeks ago." Rog tells her, "Yes, I
came back and we have quite a lot to
talk about my dear." Van looks stunned.
This is my first update without a
freeze-frame. This would have been a
good one, except for the fact that Van
is motionless anyway. Now I sometimes
watch Dan Blather by accident trying to
figure out if the show is over--not that
I'm complaining--but I do wish they
would put the original theme music back
in the beginning credits.
