GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE FOR FRIDAY JANUARY 5, 1996

	CEDARS

It's midnight. Nick and Susan toast the New Year. Susan reminds Nick
that 1996 might be harder than 1995. Nick refuses to believe it or to
talk about it tonight. He tells her that he has something burning a hole
in his pocket since that night he waited at the restaurant for her. A
hospital room isn't the place that he would normally do something like
this. Susan has never seen him so tongue-tied. Nick tells her that he's
a dream when it comes to being a writer, but when it comes to this kind
of thing, he's a Bozo. Nick gets on his knees, "You have to do me a
favor. Tell me that you'll marry me, so that you can put me out of my
misery." He shows Susan the ring.

	COUNTRY CLUB BALL

Hart kisses Bridget on the cheek and hugs her.
Vanessa and Matt kiss.
Rick signs Happy New Year and Abigail signs it back to him. He kisses
her on the cheek. Abigail gasps.
Vivian and Charles kiss.
Fletcher and Holly do too.
Michelle kisses Bill on the cheek. He tries to act cool.
Ross yells to ask if anyone has seen Blake.

Blake pounds on the door of the restroom. She yells for Amanda and says
she can still smell Amanda's cheap perfume. "Amanda! If you're kissing
my husband, I swear I'm going to kill you!" She tries to squeeze under
the door but can't get all the way out.

Amanda approaches Ross. He's still looking for Blake. Amanda tells him
that she saw Blake go the ladies room. She asks if he'll dance with her.

Outside, Lucy tries to yell for Alan Michael, but Brent covers her mouth
and drags her away from the door. He gives her a shot that knocks her out.

Blake is still stuck and continues to yell for help. She goes back under
the door, takes off her shoes and throws them & her purse over the door.
She pulls herself over.

Amanda asks Ross for a friendly New Years kiss. Blake comes out and sees
them. Matt grabs her around the waist and drags her out of the room.

Roger looks for Dinah. Hart asks him if he lost his wife, because he saw
her leave and she looked teed-off.

Griffin Williams and bodyguards arrive.

	JAIL

Marcus is brought to a room where Dinah has food & sparking cider for
them to celebrate the new year. Dinah was surprised that they let her
bring in all this stuff. Marcus says it was his father's doing. He has
convinced the police to look at another suspect. Dinah is happy to find
out that his father came through for Marcus. He tells her that this
won't change things between him and his father. Marcus toasts to ancient
Egyptian glory and freedom. Dinah toasts, "To us." Marcus, "To us. To
anybody but Griffin Williams and Roger Thorpe."

	THE BALL

Roger introduces himself to Griffin and asks about Marcus. Griffin tells
Roger that Dinah was arriving with doggy-bags shaped like swans as he
left the jail. Roger leaves.

Alan Michael, Levy, Frank, Nell & more cops arrive. Levy tells AM to be
calm, they don't want to scare Marian. AM looks in the crowd for Lucy.

Outside, Brent's first costume and syringe are on the ground.

	CEDARS

Susan looks at the ring. Nick asks for an answer and tells her that if
she keeps looking at the ring it'll melt. He asks if she's angry or her
throat bothers her or she doesn't like it. Susan asks what's all the
stuff across the room. Nick explains that it's his stuff and is sorry
for making a mess. He promises to change. Susan asks if he's stayed
with her the whole time she was hospitalized. He did it because he knew
Marian was responsible and wasn't going to give her a chance to get to
Susan again. Susan starts laughing. Nick wonders why she's laughing.
She tells him that he doesn't need a fancy restaurant or a Pulitzer-prize
winning proposal speech. "That is not a mess. That's the most beautiful
thing I've ever seen and no I don't have a fever. The fact that you've
been here all this time is everything I need to know. I've never felt so
loved." Nick loves her and wants to be her husband, so will she have
him? Susan says yes. They kiss.

	THE BALL

Michelle and Bill get glasses of champagne, but Vanessa takes the glasses
away before they can drink any.
AM asks Lillian and Ed about Lucy.
Eleni asks Frank why he's here. AM asks Eleni about Lucy. Frank asks
Eleni if she's seen Marian. She hasn't. Frank tells Eleni to go home.
She wants to know what's going on.
Levy tells Nell to be sure the place is locked down.

Blake comes back and Ross asks where she's been. She tells him that she
had a mishap in the ladies room. Amanda tells her that Ross was worried
and that she missed the countdown. Blake, "Funny how that happened,
huh?" Blake kisses Ross. She notices lipstick on Ross, it's not pink
(her color). She wants to talk to Amanda alone and pulls her outside.
Blake tells Amanda to leave Ross alone or she'll push her out of town.
Amanda won't admit to locking Blake in the washroom, but Blake has
proof-- the veil. Amanda tells Blake that the kiss with Ross was a
harmless kiss between friends. Blake won't let them be friends after
what Amanda tried to do to her. She punches Amanda in the face. Amanda
pulls off Blake's wig. Blake tries to pull out Amanda's hair (she gets a
hunk).

Frank, AM, Nell & Levy come out. Frank and AM pull Blake & Amanda apart
and tell them to go inside. Buzz arrives and asks what's up. AM asks
him about Lucy. Buzz says he left her with AM at midnight. AM tells him
that he was at Marian's looking at a dummy in a red wig. He realizes
that Marian knew what he was wearing. They figure that she dressed up
like Zorro to get Lucy. Buzz doesn't believe them, so Frank tells him
about Susan.

Inside, they bring in the dessert tray.

Griffin talks to Gilly, David, Vivian & Charles. Charles introduces
himself and asks if Griffin met Vivian during the Civil Rights movement.
Griffin knew Vivian very well, she was an asset. Vivian looks
uncomfortable.

Blake and Amanda come in. Blake wants to talk to Ross, but Amanda won't
let her fill his head with lies. Blake tells her that Ross will always
take her side, "Even if you are shoving your chest in his direction."
Amanda, "Well, at least I've got a chest to shove!" & walks away. Blake
grabs a creampuff and smashes it onto Amanda's bare back. The crowd oohs
and aahs. Amanda takes one and smashes it on Blake's chest. Blake takes
two and smashes them both on Amanda's chest. Amanda smears whipped
cream on Blake's arms. Blake shoves a cream pie in Amanda's face. The
pies start flying. Matt grabs Amanda, slips and they both fall to the
floor. Ross comes in and grabs Blake. Vanessa stands between the two
couples. Blake tells Ross that Amanda locked her in the ladies room.
Ross asks if the door could have been jammed. Blake, "Not with her veil
tying it up so it wouldn't open. I can prove it." He wants her to clean
up and calm down and they'll discuss it later. Vanessa pulls Blake away
to the restroom. Matt tells Amanda that she sandbagged Blake to get with
Ross and this stunt backfired, just like her stunt in Malibu. Amanda
tells him that he doesn't know her.

Rick tells Ed that this is his kind of party. Ed agrees it's a lively
New Year's Eve, first Reva, then Amanda and Blake. Rick asks why AM is
following Frank around and why the cops are there. Ed heard them say
they were looking for Marian. Rick tells him that he treated Marian when
she was in a car accident. Ed asks why Rick looks funny. Rick says it's
nothing and doesn't have anything to do with why they're looking for her.

	JAIL

Dinah and Marcus talk about washing dishes in Milan to pay their
restaurant bill and leaving a dead frog in the dishwater. They laugh.
Marcus says she hasn't laughed much since she married Roger. She tells
him to stop ragging on her about Roger since she comes to visit Marcus
every day. Marcus agrees, she has done a "carniverous" job of defending
him. He's happy to see her old spitfire self. They toast "To us."
Roger opens the door and asks if he can join the fun. He wants to
apologize to Dinah for accusing her of doing something she wouldn't do.
He realizes that she wouldn't tell family secrets to their enemies. He
let Hart get to him and took it out on her. He asks for forgiveness and
knows how to make it up to her. Marcus thinks this ought to be good.
Roger has to go to New York City in the morning and wants to take her on
a two week honeymoon of shopping and shows. Dinah is tempted. Marcus
tells her to go. He'll be out soon, or maybe never. He can take care of
himself. Dinah turns to Roger and tells him that she can't go.

	THE BALL

Bridget can't believe Blake. Hart says you don't mess with his sister.
He'd forgotten what she's like and tells Bridget that Blake's alot like
her. Hart tells her that he had fun at the ball. Bridget did too and
asks if he wants to go to the Towers to listen to jazz. He would love
to, but has to get up at 5:00 to work. They'll do the sled thing with
Peter instead. They leave.

Amanda goes to Ross to apologize. She admits to locking up Blake, but
Blake told Amanda that she was going after Ross because she couldn't
attract anyone else. She's done nothing to hurt Blake.

Blake can't believe that she let Amanda get to her. Vanessa tells her to
be quiet the next time Amanda tries to get to her.

Amanda tried to let it go but she snapped. Ross asks if that's when
locking his wife in the bathroom became a good idea. Amanda tells him
that when Blake called her over the hill and unattractive, it was true.
Blake has everything and Amanda lost it.

Blake feels so inadequate around Amanda and says things that get her into
trouble. Vanessa says Blake is just scared, but she can beat Amanda if
she's smart about it.

Amanda admits what she did wasn't smart, but she felt hurt. She'll make
it up to Ross by apologizing to Blake if he wants her to. She asks for
forgiveness. Ross says it's not up to him to forgive her, it's up to
Blake. He appreciates that she told him the truth. He goes to find
Blake. Matt watches Amanda.

Alex directs the staff to clean the floor. She then goes over to
Fletcher and Holly to ask them to keep the incident out of the paper.
Fletch won't because "Spaulding fights are big news." Holly, "Especially
ones so rich in calories". Alex, "Why do I even try?" She leaves.
Holly, "Blake's name stays out of the article." Fletch tries to get her
to go home and rest while he finds out why there are police at the
Country Club. Fletch, "I'm the news man in the family." Holly, "And I am
the news woman. I may be pregnant, but I'm not sick or tired. If you're
staying darlin', so am I."

Outside, Buzz yells that he should have known. RIck comes out and
listens. Nell finds Brent's first costume and the syringe. Levy sends
it to be analyzed. Nell and AM recognize the costume. Nell tells them
that Marian dressed like a guy and walked past her. AM, "She's a
complete nut." Rick, "I'm afraid she's more than that." AM asks what he
means and what does he know about Marian.

	JAIL

Roger tries to get Dinah to go, but she won't. Marcus wants to eat &
drink and tells Dinah that they only serve tapwater in the cells. Dinah
will think about forgiving Roger, but she can't leave now. Roger, "You
are my wife." Dinah, "And Marcus is my friend. I'm not leaving town
until he's out of jail." Marcus, "Gee, Dinah. You'd do that for me?"
Dinah looks at him and says he'd do the same for her. Roger appreciates
her loyalty to her friend, but things could get tough while he's gone.
MArcus promises to take care of Dinah. Roger doesn't think so, because
Hart has a vendetta against the Thorpes. Dinah says she can defend
herself against Hart. Roger wants to discuss this at home since it's
late. Dinah tells him not to wait up because she can visit with Marcus
as long as she wants to. Marcus, "You don't have a problem with that do
you, Rog?" Roger asks Dinah to come home soon because he has to get up
early. Dinah tells him to go and if she misses him he's suppose to have
a good flight. She'll call his hotel if he leaves the phone number. She
tells him to bring her back a present. Roger leaves. Marcus, "Looks
like the old Dinah might still be in there somewhere." Dinah, "Could be."

	THE BALL

Griffin tells Gilly that the police are pursuing another suspect. She
promises to give the story full coverage. He knew she would. She
wonders why, since they've argued ever since he arrived. He appreciates
a person who can give him a hard time. They dance. Vivian shivers when
she sees them. Charles gets paged. An operation has been moved up. She
wants to stay. She watches Griffin and Gilly dance.

Blake and Vanessa come back. Ross asks if Blake is ok. She wants to go
home. They leave.

Michelle asks Ed if that's Rick outside with the police. He and Abigail
look out the window.

Rick tells them that Marian is a man. AM says he must be thinking of
someone else, but Rick tells them that he examined Marian after the
accident. Buzz to Rick, "You knew this sicko was a man and you didn't
tell anybody?" Rick didn't know. Buzz attacks Rick and Frank pulls him
off. Nell, "If Marian Crane is really a guy, then who is he?" Alan
Michael, "I think I know."

	JAIL

Dinah hugs Marcus goodbye and tells him to think positive and that 96
will be better than 95. He leaves. Dinah starts clearing the food when
Hart arrives. He came to apologize to her.

	THE BALL

Matt and Vanessa leave and take Bill.
Griffin & Gilly finish dancing and Gilly goes to tell Vanessa about
Marcus. Vivian goes to Griffin and asks if he's planning to do with her
daughter what he did with her.

AM tells them about the guy in the lab. Frank asks Rick if he knows what
"Marian" looks like, but Rick only saw him with the prothesis. AM knows
someone who saw the guy in the lab, so he rushes out. Frank follows,
along with Buzz. Levy sends Nell after them.

Faux-Brent carries an unconcious Lucy to a door.
