LOVING Update for Friday, December 2:

STORYLINE: TRUTH, TRUTH, WHO'S TELLING THE TRUTH?
           (starting location: police station)
* Cabot is waiting on a bench. Stephanie enters and insists on seeing
Cooper. Cabot tells her that Clay is with him now and "let's hope for
some good news." Stephanie asks how any good news could come out of
Clay accusing Cooper of trying to kill him. Cabot says that he doesn't
believe it; there must have been some kind of mistake. "Together, the
two of them can work this terrible thing out."
[In the jail.]
Clay has been wheeled outside by a guard. Cooper, calm now, asks him if
he realizes what he is asking him to do. Clay says yes, he would be an
"admitted attempted murderer" in Cabot's eyes, but not in the eyes of
the law. "As far as your affair with Deborah is --" Cooper angrily
interrupts: "There was no affair and I'm never going to say there was!"
Clay continues that Stephy will be out of his life. "I can't let that
happen." Clay turns to wheel himself out. "See you on visiting days."
Cooper runs to the bars of the cell and asks how he can be assured that
Clay will hold to his end of the deal. Clay says he won't find Stephy
desirable once Cooper gives her up. "I'm not very proud of that, but
you and I both know that's the truth, don't we?" After a pause and a
staring contest, Clay says, "I'm losing my patience, Cooper." Cooper,
*very* frustrated, says, "Get Uncle Cabot in here."
* Cabot enters, saying that he hopes they have come to some sort of
agreement. Clay says he has been giving this a lot of thought, and
he accepts how Cabot and Isabelle feel about him and about Cooper: that
he has hurt a lot of people. Cooper has hurt people, too, and, like
him, he deserves a second chance, too, so he is going to change his
statement and drop the charges. Cabot turns to Cooper and says,
"Cooper, you didn't -- you aren't responsible!" Cooper apologizes,
saying that he has been good to him and has a lot of faith in him,
and it was misplaced. The truth is that he ran Clay down and had an
affair with Deborah. "Cooper? Why?!" Cooper says he doesn't know, he
has asked himself this question a lot lately. He knows it doesn't seem
like him, but he guesses it *was* him. He wanted everything Clay had,
including his women, "and I got it." He says he was losing control
that night [Stephanie enters, unseen], so he got in the car -- you'll
never know how sorry I am. "You tried to kill my son? [Editorial
comment: uh, no, he's not actually your son.] I should have seen what
was happening. I should never have let it get this far." He goes on
about how there was a place for each of them in Alden Enterprises.
Cabot sees Stephanie and stops. Stephy goes to the cell and says,
"Cooper, I love you. I don't care about anything else." We see shots
of Cooper (reconsidering?) and Clay (thoughtful).
* After a long silence, Clay tells Cabot that they had better go talk
to the D. A. Cabot examines Stephanie and Cooper, then wheels Clay
out. Cooper tells Stephy that she had better go, too. She says she
has to talk to him. He says he doesn't want her to see him any more,
 ever.
S: "What are you talking about? We're going to see each other for the
 rest of our lives."
C: "It's over."
S: "I told you, though, I don't care what you did. It doesn't matter
 to me. I love you."
C: "It's over, Stephanie, all right? It's just over."
S: "Wait a minute. Just stop saying that, all right?"
C: "What else is there to say?"
S: "You told me the other night -- you said that we were just going to
forget about everything that happened, that we were just going to
forget about Clay, and about my mom, and that it would be just us."
C: "There is no 'us.'"
Stephanie starts crying.
S: "But that's all that I have left. You helped me when I was sick and
I couldn't even stand to look at myself. You understood that and you
 stayed with me."
C: "Steph--"
S: "You gave me the strength, Cooper, you gave me the strength to stand
 up for myself again."
C: "Steph, you've gotta stop this, all right, you've got to..."
S: "...and you gave me hope when I thought everything was hopeless..."
C: "Please, you've got to go away right now. OK? Just stop."
S: "I can't. Remember the story that you told me? It was in the cell,
remember? It was about the princess -- she was locked in the tower,
and the prince, he rescued her. All of that came true for me. That's
because everything that I've said is true. And it couldn't be possible
unless you loved me. I know that you love me. Please say that you do,
 please."
Cooper walks to the bars of the cell.
C: "I do love you..."
S (celebrating): "I knew you did!"
C: "I just -- I don't love you enough."
We see shots of both of them, very thoughtful. Cooper is very sad.
* [At the police station.]
Cabot is solemn as the D. A. questions Clay -- he *swore* up and down
that Cooper was behind the wheel. Clay says they had just fought, and
he was very angry -- and a little drunk. When he saw him standing over
him, he assumed he had done it. The D. A. is mad. She wants to know
who ran him down. "I'm not sure. And, until I am, I'm not going to be
responsible for a potentially innocent man being sent to prison."
[In the jail.]
C: "I'm sorry, Stephy."
S: "Don't do this to me. I need you."
C: "No you don't."
S: How can you do this to me, after everything that I've told you?"
C: "You don't really know who I am, you know. You never have."
S: "Yes I do!"
C: "No, you don't."
S: "Yes I do!"
C: "I'm an Alden. You know what that means."
S: "You're not like that."
C: "You don't think so? You don't think I want the money or the power?"
S: "No, I don't!"
C: "Well, you're wrong. I do! I want all of it. [Pause.] You need
someone who can take care of you, someone who can be with you, and I
don't have the time or the energy."
Cooper shakes the bars in frustration.
S: "Why are you doing this? Why are you lying to me?"
Cooper turns away. He can't face her any more.
C: "I think you'd better go now, Steph!"
S: "No, Cooper..."
C: "Get OUT of here!"
Stephanie reaches to him through the bars.
S: "Don't do this. Don't do this. Please hold on to me. Please hold
 on to me. Please..."
Cooper turns to her, but doesn't reach. After a while, Stephanie runs
 out of the cellblock.
Cooper sits on his bed and cries.

STORYLINE: T-W-I-N
           (starting location: Dunellyn)
* Alex is there, along with Trucker and Charles, showing Curtis the
FAXes of the yearbook pictures of Jeremy and Gilbert. "He *does* have
a twin! I *knew* it!" Alex points out that there is no Gilbert in
the second picture, so he may have died. Then again, he may be alive,
and there is a possibility he is here in Corinth.
[At the warehouse.]
Ava is tying the sheets together; Jeremy is trying to pry the rusted
door open. Finally, "Augh!!" It flies open. Ava hugs Jeremy. They
start to tie one end of the tied sheets to a beam and throw the other
end down the shaft, when they hear Gilbert coming. They hide the tied
sheets, run back to the other end of the room, and look pathetic again.
Gilbert enters and complains that he has seen the same car at Jeremy's
house four times, and he's sure they have one at the Agency, too. Ava
asks, "'They' who?" "The Police, that's who. They're on to me!"
* [At Dunellyn.]
Curtis says that the twin isn't dead, he's right here in Corinth. Alex
says that people can change. Curtis says he told him he had a brain
tumor, but he checked it out... Facing stone faces, he says he can't
concentrate with the drugs. Alex says he asked the doctors to cut his
dosage in half. Curtis says they did...and he took drugs before, when
he acted drunk. Curtis babbles about the night he went to Jeremy's
house. Alex stops him and asks how Jeremy is responsible for Ava's
disappearance. Curtis says yes, the other guy was. "He was tormenting
me, he was making me do things -- he *couldn't* have been Jeremy."
Charles says they need proof. "You want proof? I can give you proof."
[At the warehouse.]
Jeremy tells Gilbert that he is just being paranoid. Gilbert says he
believes that Alex has caught on. Ava tells him he can still get away.
"Just go, leave now." "And leave you here to die?" Ava tells him he
can call the police from another town. "You trust me to do that?" "I
don't have much choice, do I?" Gilbert says he supposes not. He says
good bye to Ava. He wishes he could say they will meet again, but he
can't. He tells his brother good bye. "I'm out of here." He turns
to leave and kicks the pocket knife. Ava tells him it fell out of his
pocket. "Yeah, I remember that. You were having a nightmare. I put
my jacket around you because you were a poor, frightened little girl.
I believed it." "I *was* frightened. I *still am* frightened." He
says she lied to him. "Sweetness, understanding? 'You have so much
love inside, Gilbert, the way you held your brother.'" Jeremy stands
up and asks what he expected from her or him, not knowing whether they
would live or die. Gilbert notices that Jeremy -- and Ava -- are out
of their shackles. Gilbert pulls a gun and holds it up. Jeremy hugs
 Ava tightly.
* [At Dunellyn.]
Curtis starts to give them his proof. "Remember when Jeremy was in the
hospital --" Alex asks if that is the day he saw Dante. Curtis says
he didn't see Dante. Alex asks if that is the day he *thought* he saw
Dante. No, he didn't *think* he saw Dante -- not that time. He says
he was getting better. Anyway, Jeremy saw him at the hospital. He
grabbed him by the throat. Charles says Jeremy was in bed. Alex says
that was when Curtis attacked him. No, no, no. "What are you talking
about? I was there, you admitted it!" Curtis says that he was forced
to say that he attacked Jeremy, as well as the stuff about Dante. Alex
says Jeremy was unconscious, he was there! Curtis says that it was
*Jeremy* in bed, and his brother who grabbed him! [Curtis *sounds*
nuts -- some kind of proof.] Curtis admits that this year has been
bizarre, to say the least, but "Jeremy's brother is alive and living
in Corinth." Alex says that if what he says is true, then Ava has been
seeing him for over a month. Curtis, worried now, tells Alex, "You've
gotta find him. You've just gotta find him."
[At the warehouse.]
Gilbert tells them that their cleverness is in vain. He finds the open
elevator door. He looks down and asks what they were going to do,
jump? They're more suicidal than he thought. He sees the sheets and
figures out what they were going to do. "Very clever! Sorry my gift
didn't mean more to you than that." Gilbert, saying that he hates to
see beautiful things destroyed, throws the sheets down the elevator
shaft. He looks down and watches them float down. Jeremy decides
this is the time for him to make his move. He lunges at Gilbert, and
the two of them struggle in the doorway at the top of the shaft.
* [At Dunellyn.]
Curtis is gone, but the other three are sitting at a table, discussing
what they have just heard. Charles wonders why Gilbert would have
Curtis throw a fit at the hospital. Alex offers that it might have
been a diversion. He says that maybe that's when Gilbert decided to
get rid of Jeremy. Alex asks what Jeremy said when he came to the
police station to report that he had been assaulted. Charles recalls
that he didn't say much, but Alex remembers that he did say something
about a warehouse. Charles says he mentioned the Jensen Warehouse,
but they checked it out. Alex says, "Let's check it out again." The
 three of them rush out.
[At the warehouse.]
Gilbert lands a left. Jeremy lands a right and drags Gilbert down to
the floor. Ava gives us a typical "soap heroine" face. Jeremy lands
another right. He rares back to throw another right, and Gilbert grabs
his right arm. He shoves Jeremy, hard. Jeremy somersaults backwards
down the elevator shaft. He screams. Ava shrieks.
