LOVING Update for Friday, November 18:

STORYLINE: NO BAIL FOR THE INNOCENT
           (starting location: Police Station)
* A cop is escorting Cooper (in handcuffs) out to see Isabelle, Stephy
and his lawyer. Isabelle says she made some calls, and a judge agreed
to have his arraignment tonight. Cooper says that's good, he's ready
to make a statement. The lawyer wants to talk to him first. Cooper
says he didn't do it and he wants out of there so he can nail the
 person who did.
* [In Alex's car.]
Fred has told Alex about Cooper's arraignment being held tonight. He
says that Isabelle and Stephy have gone with Cooper to the courthouse.
Alex asks when the arraignment is. "Any time now." Alex asks Fred to
delay it. "I want to be there." He says he knows that Cooper didn't
do it. "I have a gut feeling." "And we have motive, fingerprints and
an eyewitness." "I'm coming in. If Ava calls, tell her I'll be at
 the courthouse."
* [At the courthouse.]
Cabot and Isabelle are trying to settle Cooper down: they wouldn't set
a bail. "That's ridiculous." The lawyer points out that since he had
his passport and "a considerable amount of cash" when he was arrested,
he was considered a flight risk. He's mad because he'll have to stay
in jail until the trial. Stephy asks how long that will be, and the
lawyer says it could be months. Alex says no, they'll find who did
this long before that. Cooper says he knows who did it. Alex says,
"Well, tell us!" Cooper says he first thought it was Stephy, which is
why he had the passport, because he wanted to get her "the hell out of
Dodge," but now, he's sure she didn't do it. "SO?" Cooper says it
could only be one other person. "WHO, COOPER?" "Deborah." Stephy is
upset. Alex asks what makes him say that. Cooper says she is the
only one who had a motive: Clay convinced her he loved her, then used
her to try to break up he and Stephy. "That's it? That's all you've
got? Where's your evidence? I need more than that." "Well, go get
some." Alex says he'll question her one more time, but there's only
so much pressure he can put on her. Stephy says she'll talk to her.
Cooper tries to talk her out of it, but she says she can handle it.
"I have to." Isabelle offers to go with Stephy. Cooper reluctantly
agrees to let them go. Cooper and Stephanie tell each other to be
careful. Cooper says he'd rather deal with the convicts than with
Deborah any day. Stephy says she'll be all right. She asks him to
promise to forget the whole birthday, the pictures and everything.
He promises a case of amnesia. They kiss, and Stephanie leaves.
* The lawyer gives Cooper the options: fight this thing or plead guilty.
Cabot points out, "But he didn't do it!" "Clay claims he saw Cooper
behind the wheel." Cooper laughs. Cabot says, "Clay may be trying to
frame Cooper." The lawyer asks Cooper what he wants to do. He wants
to see how it goes with Deborah. Cabot says that Isabelle is with her,
she'll be OK. Cooper says that Deborah can push *all* of her buttons.
Cabot says, "Give her a little credit. She loves you. Love can be an
amazing source of power." Cooper asks what if she can't get Deborah to
confess. "Then Alex and I will." Cooper says he doesn't know what she
is like. "Stephy could shatter at any minute."

STORYLINE: BLACKMAIL FOR THE GUILTY(?)
           (location: Corinth Memorial - ICU)
* Deborah enters Clay's room. "Who let you in?" She asks for just five
minutes. "What do you want, Deborah?" She says she wants to see how
he is feeling. "Like I got hit by a car." She asks what the doctor
said about his walking again. "Maybe, maybe not. The way my luck's
been..." She asks where Stephy is. He tells her that she is at the
police station for Cooper's arraignment. Deborah asks why he lied to
the police about Cooper being behind the wheel, when they both know
 that he wasn't.
* He says he lied for the same reason she did: neither of them stands to
gain anything from it. She asks how he could dare accuse her of trying
to gain something from this; he says he could accuse her of much more.
She says he destroyed everything she had with Stephanie. "I didn't
sleep with Cooper." "Well, neither did *I*, and you know it!" She
starts to rant about him ruining all of their lives. He interrupts:
 "Shut up and listen."
D: "All right."
C: "The truth tends to turn against me: my father not being my real
father at all, the AE secrets involving the Rescotts, I could go on
 and on."
He says he is going to create his own truth now.
D: "Revenge?"
C: "Partly, but I'm also going to get back what I lost."
D: "Evidently, you're not speaking about the use of your legs."
C: "Cooper's going to jail. I'm going back to AE."
D: "You're framing him."
C: "Well, if you swim with sharks..."
Deborah says he won't get away with it: neither Cabot nor Isabelle
believes that Cooper was behind the wheel nor that he slept with her.
C: "I know that my credibility is lousy. That's where you come in."
D: "What are you saying?"
C: "You were the one who ran me down, Deborah. You owe me, and now
 I'm going to collect."
* None.
* [In the hall, approaching Clay's room.]
Stephanie tells Isabelle that she needs to talk to Deborah herself.
Isabelle asks if she is sure.
[In the room.]
Clay tells Deborah that Stephanie is there. "No time like the present,
 Deborah." "I won't -- I can't do this." "Would you prefer that I call
 the police right now?"
[In the hall.]
Stephy says she has to fix things with her mother before she can fix
things with herself. Isabelle tells her to do what she has to do, and
if she needs her, she'll be in the cafeteria. They hug, then Isabelle
 leaves.
[In the room.]
"All right. Showtime!" "Clay, I can't do this." "You'd rather go to
prison, huh?" Clay gestures to the door (with his face) as Stephanie
enters. They go into their spiel:
D: "Clay, please, please clear Cooper's name, all right?"
C: "He ran me down!"
D: "But say that he didn't. Say that it was a mistake."
C: "Why?"
D: "Do it for me, all right?"
C: "Really? You were cheating on me. You were cheating on your own
 daughter!"
D: "It's _over_ between Cooper and me. I was going to end it the night
 of the party."
C: "You expect me to believe that?"
D: "It's true. I never should have been involved with him in the first
place. And I'm just sorry for all the suffering I've caused."
Stephanie starts to cry.

STORYLINE: WHO FAXED THEM THIS 'BOMB' IDEA?
           (starting location: Penthouse)
* Ava begs Gilbert to let her go. He says he can't. She asks him to
take out his gun and shoot her. The door bell rings. "Daddy? Mommy?"
It is Sandy (with Alexis and Stacey). Gilbert says, "Damn." Stacey
calls through the door, asking if anyone is home. Gilbert holds up the
bomb remote control and tells Ava to answer the door and to "stick to
the script: disillusioned wife, leaving home." Ava says she can't do
it. "Then Jeremy dies, and so does everyone else." Gilbert whips out
a gun. "Remember, you've had _no_ contact with Jeremy." Gilbert hides
on the balcony. Outside, Stacey says she's glad she got the keys. She
fishes them out and starts to open the door. Ava opens it and she and
the kids celebrate. Stacey asks where she has been...
[In Alex's car.]
Alex is on his car phone, asking Fred if Ava has called in. No. He
tells Fred to tell her that he is on his way home if she calls. Fred
lets Alex know that "they're moving on the Alden case."
* [At the penthouse.]
The kids asks where she was. "Mommy had some things to take care of,
sweetheart." She asks if they're hungry. No. Stacey tells Ava that
the kids pigged out at Pins -- one of Kate's pre-Thanksgiving feasts.
She offers cookies; they're *always* in the mood for cookies. The kids
go upstairs. Ava asks Stacey where Alex is. He left the party early.
"Did he say why he left early?" No. "Did he say when he'd come home?"
No. Stacey gives Ava back her keys. Ava starts to cry. Stacey asks
if she is OK. She says that Alex told her a little bit about what has
been going on between them. Ava asks what he said. "He said he loves
you and he wants to work things out." "So do I." Stacey says now that
she is back, they can work things out. "That *is* why you came back,
isn't it?" Before Ava can answer, Stacey asks if "she" is allowed out
there. We see a shot of Alexis opening the door to the balcony. Ava
runs to the door. "Alexis! NO!!" Ava grabs Alexis before she gets
outside, then she closes the door.
* Sandy runs in asking mommy why she screamed. Ava composes herself
and apologizes to Alexis for yelling at her. She tells them that the
railing is loose out there and she doesn't want them going out there.
She apologizes again to Alexis. Stacey asks if Ava is OK; she says she
is fine. She pulls the kids aside to talk to them: "Mommy wants to
tell you something. When I was away, I thought about the two of you
all the time. Every day. I thought about what you were doing, and how
you were, and when I'd do that, you know, it's like you guys were with
me. Do you understand what I'm saying?" Both answer, "No." Ava sighs
and continues, asking them to do her a favor. "When I'm away from you,
I want you to close your eyes and I want you to pretend that I'm with
you, OK? That way, I will be with you." Sandy asks if she is going
away again. She says she may have to. "Why?" "There are some things
mommy can't tell you right now." Sandy says she can't; when she was
in the hospital, she promised never to leave them again. She says she
may have to. She says it's getting late and they should get ready for
bed. She says she'll be up to read them a story. They all hug and say
they love each other, then the kids run upstairs. Ava breaks down.
Stacey asks what's going on and if she can help. Ava says nobody can
help. Stacey says the two of them love each other. Ava says that's
not enough. Stacey says it _is_ enough. Ava says it takes more; she
has to get away. Stacey tells her not to go. Ava says she only came
back to get some clothes. "You're not leaving Alex again, are you?"
Ava says she needs more time. Stacey asks her to stay until Alex gets
back and talk to him. She won't. Stacey asks Ava to talk to _her_,
then. Ava says that they just don't see eye-to-eye on things, and they
have come to an impasse. Stacey asks if it is over Jeremy. Ava says,
"No, absolutely not!" Stacey says that Alex thinks that it is. Ava
says that Alex is wrong. "This is about Alex. I mean, I love him,
but --" Sandy asks from upstairs, "Mommy, are you coming?" "I'll be
up there in a minute, sweetheart." She asks Stacey to do her a favor:
to go upstairs and see the kids because she doesn't want them to see
her like this. "OK. Promise? You won't leave?" "I promise." "Ava,
listen to me. You and Alex have something very rare and wonderful.
Don't give up on it, OK?" Ava thanks her. She goes upstairs. Ava
breaks down again. Gilbert comes in and congratulates her on her
"bravura" performance. Ava suddenly turns and asks how he could do
this. "You know what it's like to be away from your mother, how could
you do it to other children?" Gilbert is dumbfounded.
[At the police station, after Stephy and Isabelle leave.]
Alex gets a call. It's Stacey. "Alex, she's here." "What? Where?"
"At the penthouse. I'm calling from upstairs. She's talking about
leaving again." "All right. I'm on my way over!" He slams down the
 phone and runs out.
* [At the penthouse.]
Alex busts into the penthouse. "Ava?" Stacey runs down the stairs
as Alex apologizes for being late. ["The traffic was murder"!? -- if
I were Alex, I'd have flipped on the ol' lights and siren!] Stacey
says she's gone. "What? You let her go?" Stacey says she tried to
stop her, but she left. "She promised me she would stay right here."
Alex, *extremely* frustrated, asks, "Well, where did she go?"
S: "I don't know."
A: "She didn't say anything, she didn't give you any kind of a clue?"
S: "Nothing, Alex. I'm sorry."
Alex asks why she came if she was just going to leave again. Stacey
says she said she was just there to pick up a few things.
S: "She didn't expect to run into anybody; she seemed surprised when I
 showed up with the kids."
A: "Well, did she say why?"
S: "No. She just said she wanted to be alone. She said she loves you,
 Alex."
Alex cries, sort of.
A: "Was she alone?"
S: "Yeah. She was not with Jeremy. She said she hasn't seen him or
heard from him. She was alone."
A: "Part of me wishes he had been with her."
S: "Why?"
A: "Because I could *fight* him! But if he's really out of the
picture, then I just have one person to blame: myself."
Stacey doesn't know what to say as Alex walks to the balcony door and
 goes outside.
[At the warehouse.]
Jeremy is asleep. Gilbert and Ava enter. Gilbert apologizes to Ava for
having to put her through this. She asks for the keys to the penthouse
[why?] and he gives them to her [double why?]. She goes to Jeremy,
but Gilbert shouts, "Wait!" Ava freezes. "I have to disarm the bomb."
Jeremy, weakly, says he thought he was going to die. Ava asks Gilbert
to hurry up and get the bomb off of his leg. Jeremy's hands had been
handcuffed behind him. Ava takes them off. He falls forward, saying
that he feels like he is going to be sick. Gilbert steps forward and
catches Jeremy. Jeremy, with all of his remaining strength(?), shoves
Gilbert away and grabs the bomb remote. Jeremy screams, "Stay back!"
Gilbert asks, "What the hell are you doing?" Jeremy says, "Let Ava
and me go or, by God, I'm going to blow us all up!!"
