LOVING Update for Thursday, 10/26/95

It's "beginning of the mass exodus to New York" day in Corinth!

Our storylines:
I. Jacob tries to convince Angie to go.
II. Ally tries to convince Steffi to go.
III. Tony, Alex and Charles try to figure out who will be alive to go.
IV. Will Tess stay alive long enough to go?

I. Jacob tries to convince Angie to go.

Angie's working in her office, and hears someone come in. Without
looking up, she says "I told you to pack it in, go home and get some
rest." "Physician, heal thyself," Jacob says from the doorway.
Angie smiles simperingly at him. Jacob says he just happened to
be in the 'hood, and under the circumstances, he didn't think a house
call would be too cool. Angie says Charles told her what happened.
Jacob says he forgot to duck. Angie says this is exactly why they
can't see each other, until she can think things through. Jacob says
it doesn't look like that's her top priority. Angie says work is work,
Jacob says dinner is dinner, the hour for which has come and gone,
and here she is working. Angie says not to give her a hard time.
Jacob says he wants to make her time easier. He says he has some-
thing that will make everything perfect for them, and takes the blue-
prints for Tess' building out of his pocket.

Jacob shows Angie the plans, where the club is going to be, and tells
her that Buck is going in with him. Angie is still trying to process the
fact that he's really going to New York. Jacob says "correction, WE
are going to New York." Angie says WE are not, hasn't he heard any-
thing she's said? Jacob says to listen to what he has to say. Angie
says she can't leave now, at least until she's cleaned up the mess of
her life. Jacob says "Jacob's Cleaning Service..." Angie tells him
not to make jokes. Jacob won't stop until he makes her laugh. Angie
says there's not a whole lot to laugh about. Jacob knows things will
be rough with Charles, but drawing it out won't make it easier for
either of them.  Angie says it's not just Charles, there's the hospital;
she has responsibilities. Jacob says she has a responsibility to herself
and to him; she told him she loved him, and you owe a person when
that happens, you owe them you. Angie says he won't be getting any
bargain. Jacob says he'll be getting everything he could want. Angie
asks for time to put the pieces back together. Jacob says there's too
much pain in Corinth, too many memories of Jeremy, Stacey... she
knows it's true. He says she cannot go on living like this, with the
ghosts here... she has to do something for herself. "Let me love you,
make you laugh again, come to New York with me..."

Angie says to stop pushing her. Jacob says he's in such a hurry for
both of them to be happy. Does she remember happy? Angie says
barely. Jacob says it'll happen again if she lets it. Angie asks for
time. Jacob says she has time, it's what she plans to do with it that's
the question. Angie says "think." Jacob says how about feel? Angie
says she's been feeling too much. "None of it good?" Jacob asks?
"Some of it wonderful," Angie says. Jacob says to go with those
feelings, and they'll tell her what she wants. Angie says she knows
what she wants. Jacob says then that's all she needs. Angie says
wouldn't it be wonderful if that were true. Jacob says he's going to
make it true.

II. Ally tries to convince Steffi to go.

Ally is packing stuff into boxes at her house. Steffi shows up, and
comments on what a disaster area the place is. Ally says neatness
was never her thing. Steffi says she would have helped if Ally had
told her she was moving back in. Ally says she's not; she's moving
out, away from Corinth.

Ally has apparently told Steffi the truth about Danny; she's saying
she couldn't take the guilt any longer, and she'll understand if Steffi
doesn't want to be her friend anymore. Steffi says Ally isn't getting
rid of her that easily. Ally says she did a really bad thing. Steffi
says Danny's done a few bad things. Ally says two wrongs... Steffi
says don't worry about it, you told the truth, that's all that matters.
Ally's just glad everything worked out. So, Steffi wonders, why
are you leaving town? Ally says when Casey died, she felt like her
whole world died, and she felt dead. Steffi says but she got over it.
Ally says she was getting over it, but now all these horrible things
are going on and her world really is dying; all the killings, Ava
moving to Florida... she feels like she has nothing. Steffi mentions
Kate and Tyler. Ally says Tyler is going to Paris to stay with Cooper.
Steffi says that's only for a visit. Ally says until she's settled.
Steffi asks where, and Ally says New York City; Tess offered her
a job with the new agency, a job Steffi got her. Steffi says if she
knew she was losing her best friend, she wouldn't have gotten her
the job. Ally says Steffi isn't getting rid of HER that easily. Steffi
says "yeah, we'll call, we'll write, we'll visit..." Ally says she
doesn't want to do all that; she wants Steffi to come, too.

Steffi says she can't go to New York. Ally says Tess is dying for
her to come back to the agency. Steffi says she isn't dying to work
with Tess again. Ally says there are a lot more opportunities for
her in New York than in Corinth. Steffi says it's not about work,
it's about the people that she'd have to leave. Steffi's gotten close
to Gwyn, and she's lost her whole family, and Steffi can't just leave
her. And then there's her mom. Ally says Deborah will always be
her mom. Steffi says please, I'm depressed enough as it is. Ally
says that's why she has to get away. Steffi says there's somebody
else she kind of doesn't want to leave either. Ally says "let me
guess," and launches into an imperfect but recognizable impression
of Tony, which makes Steffi laugh.

Steffi says she "sorta likes him," that's no big secret. "Sort of?"
Ally asks. Steffi says she likes him a lot. "Just like?" Ally asks.
Steffi says she doesn't know; she thinks he's in love with her.
"You think?" Ally asks. Steffi says would you stop asking me so
many questions! Ally says would you give me a direct answer?
Steffi says she thinks he is. "And you?" Ally asks? Steffi says
she likes being liked. Ally asks if it's more than just like. Yeah,
Steffi says, and it feels good after what happened with Cooper.
Ally asks if it's Tony that she likes, or is it just being liked? Both,
Steffi says. She says she can't make any decisions until she has
the baby, anyway. Ally asks if she's decided where she's going to
have the baby. Steffi says yeah, maybe a hospital would be good.
Ally says they have a lot of those in New York City. Steffi says
you aren't going to give up until you get me to move to New York
with you, are you? No, Ally says. Steffi says so there's no point
in fighting it? Ally says none at all. Okay, Steffi says, I'll think
about it. Ally says think about it, talk to Tess, it'll be so much
fun. Steffi says she'll go to the agency now and see what kind of
hell Tess can cook up for her in New York City. Ally says it's
great; she and Tess will both be very happy. Ally hugs Steffi.

III. Tony, Alex and Charles try to figure out who will be alive to go.

Richard is handcuffed to a chair in the police station, singing, and
bugging the cops. One of the cops tells "Sinatra" to keep it down.
Richard says there's no extra charge for the entertainment, and
the cop says he'll give him an extra charge: disturbing the peace.
He tries to get Alex to let him go, saying it isn't funny anymore,
but Alex won't let him go. Richard says he shouldn't be there at
all. Alex says he should have kept his nose out of their investigation.
Richard says he's bored of Alex's warnings, and that people have
the right to know where the serial killer is. Alex says to quit the
freedom of the press crap. Richard threatens to sue, but Alex isn't
impressed.

Charles is grilling Lennox, saying that he must be holding something
back; surely in all those weeks with the killer coming in and out, he
would have seen something. Lennox swears he didn't. Alex comes
in. Tony asks if he should book Lennox. Lennox pleads that he'll
never get another position if he has a police record. Charles says
they can't take any chances, not that they're accusing him of any-
thing. Lennox says he understands. The truth is, he says, he is
guilty of withholding information... he thinks he saw Trisha at the
mansion.

Alex wants to know when Lennox saw Trisha. Lennox says a few
days ago, and a few days before that. Tony asks if he was going to
keep this to himself? Lennox says no, he told Gwyn. She told him
not to say anything. Charles takes Tony and Alex outside to confer.
Lennox looks nervous, but not in a guilty way. By the water cooler,
Charles says that Gwyn's been protecting Trisha all along [duh].
Tony says they should have booked Gwyn when they had the chance,
at Jeremy's memorial service. One of the cops comes up and tells
Tony he has a phone call. Charles tells Alex to bring Gwyn in. Alex
says he already has two uniforms on the way. Tony comes back and
says they have a problem... Gwyn's missing, not home, nowhere to
be found. Alex says he doesn't like it. Charles asks if he thinks
Gwyn's with Trisha. Alex says it's possible. Charles says if
Trisha's the killer, Gwyn's aiding and abetting a criminal. Alex says
if Trisha's the killer, Gwyn could be dead.

Tony's making phone calls. Richard is hounding Alex, saying that by
the time he goes on the air with his story, Alex'll be lucky if they
let him check parking meters. The other cops comment sarcastically
that it's been real restful since Richard's been around. Alex says
get used to it, because he's not going anywhere. Richard starts to
sing "Born Free" rather loudly. The cop asks if he can shoot him.
Alex says there's a waiting list. Meanwhile, Tony is asking Mrs.
Brewster on the phone what time Steffi was expected, and worrying
that she's late. Tony reassures Deborah that it's going to be fine,
and he'll call her when he hears something. Tony hangs up, and
freaks out; apparently Steffi never showed up at her doctor's
appointment that morning. Tony says that isn't like her, and some-
thing isn't right. Alex tries to calm him down, but Tony says she
saw Trisha, and she's very close to Gwyn. Tony rails that he told
her to stay away from Gwyn, and she just doesn't listen. Alex tells
him to shut up and calm down; there's probably a logical reason she
didn't show up. Alex says they're this close to solving the case, and
he needs Tony with a clear head. Charles comes up and asks if they're
ready for another round with Neal. Alex says he's ready for a plane
trip to Florida. Charles says he'll go with him. Jill comes up and says
she spoke to the lab about the hair found at the Alden mansion, and
they're trying to match it with all of the other ones they found. From
behind her, Richard says "have them fax me a copy." Alex says he's
going to fax Richard his butt if he doesn't shut up. Charles leads Alex
away. Richard sarcastically tells Tony he wants to thank him SO
much for his help, because he thought that he and Tony had an under-
standing. Tony says understand this; what he did was way out of
line, and if he thinks he's going to go on the air and say one word
about it, this will be his permanent home. Richard doesn't seem
particularly afraid of that threat. Tony says it's a shame they don't
allow police brutality... but, Richard's knowing about the secret and
not being able to blab about it is real torture. Tony tells one of the
cops to hold Richard as a material witness, and to do the paperwork.
Richard says he was just having a little fun. Tony says now they're
both having fun... just sit here, and Tony will keep him informed of
all the little details. Richard's pissed.

Neal asks how long they're going to do this. Alex says as long as it
takes to get to the truth. Neal says he told them the truth, and they
still don't believe him. Charles says there are some doubts. Neal
says he told them exactly how Jeremy died, do they think he made
that up? Charles says he couldn't have. Neal says so what does
that say to them? Alex says one of two things; that Neal killed him,
or that he had a front-row seat at the killing. So, which is it, Charles
asks?

Neal asks how many times he has to tell them? "I killed Stacey, I
killed Jeremy, I killed Curtis!" Alex tells him to stop it, he's lying.
Charles says Lennox says he saw Trisha at the mansion. Did Neal
see her? Alex asks, or maybe at Jeremy's studio, pushing a vat
of plaster on him? No! Neal says. Alex says Trisha is being pro-
tected by Gwyn, as well; she helped her get away. Now Gwyn is
missing. "Maybe she went somewhere," Neal says, somewhat
panicked. Don't you understand, Alex says, these killings aren't
going to go away because you're playing hero. Neal says the killings
are over. "Really, Neal?" Alex asks, "are you willing to sacrifice
an innocent victim for that?" Neal looks worried.

IV. Will Tess stay alive long enough to go?

Tess is on the phone, trying to convince someone named Frances to
move their business from the West 30s to her building in SoHo. We
follow the wobbly progress of someone down the hall to Tess' office.
Tess looks up and smiles at the intruder; "oh, hi; guess it is my lucky
day." The camera pans over and we see that it's Buck. He smiles.

Buck says this isn't a social call. Tess asks if it's an antisocial one?
Buck says no, so Tess offers him a drink. Buck says no thanks. Tess
says state your business. Buck says Jacob told him about the club
he's thinking of opening in New York... Tess says "he's in?" excitedly.
Buck says he said "thinking about," but if he goes ahead, he wants
Buck to go in with him. Tess thinks it's great, and Buck agrees; he
knows about running a bar, and Jacob knows about music. He says
he may have found a buyer for the Rodeo Bar. Tess is surprised that
he's going to sell it; she thought he'd be a silent partner. Buck says
she knows you can't run a business long-distance. Tess asks what
about all his talk about putting down roots? Buck says you know me...
have roots, will travel. Tess smiles sorta slyly.

Buck says he was never much for staying in one place... when he
came to Corinth, it was to make a quick score and get out. Tess
says so much for big plans; they're a couple of losers. Buck says
they were two of a kind. "Were?" Tess says. Buck says speak for
yourself. Tess says sorry to put him in such low company. Buck
says he doesn't mean to judge her. When he met Stacey, it seemed
like things were going to be different, a whole new life. Now he's
back where he started, so it's time to move on... small town life
just doesn't make much sense at this point. Tess says for either
of us, but it was a great pit stop; she got to own an agency, he got
to own and run a bar, this was good experience for the big bad world;
who knows, they may make that easy score yet. Maybe, Buck says,
or better yet, maybe we'll find a better way to live. Tess says let's
drink to that. Buck says he'll join her for that, but nothing else,
because she's trouble. Tess is jokingly offended.

Tess says she guesses a lady can't offer a gentleman a drink any
more. Buck asks if that's all she was offering? Tess says, what
did you think I was offering? Okay, I'll admit I was attracted to
you, and I might even admit that I'm still attracted to you, so how's
that for honesty, cowboy? Buck says that's pretty good. Tess
says she has a lot riding on this business, she can't afford to let
anything slide, so she doesn't need the distraction... for now. They
laugh. Tess says she needs somebody to laugh with in New York,
and besides, Ally's coming along to be a staff photographer. Buck
doesn't seem very happy. Tess asks what the problem is? Buck
says it really doesn't matter to him one way or the other, but he's
gotta get back to work. He asks for a rain check on the drink, and
says to put the lease in the mail, and they'll go over the details
later. He says goodbye to Tess and leaves. Tess starts back to
work... until she starts hearing the clicking sound. She looks up,
but doesn't see anyone...

We see Tess in black and white from the doorway, with her back
to the door. The killer approaches... Tess turns around. She doesn't
look horribly shocked to see the person, but is seemingly confused;
"what are you doing?" Tess asks...

Uh-oh-Tess-and-Steffi-are-in-trouble-HANGER!!!
