LOVING Update for Friday, October 7:

STORYLINE: SURPRISE! CLAY'S UP TO SOMETHING
           (location: Casey and Ally's house)
* Casey, Ally, Stephanie and Cooper are just sitting around, talking
and having a good time. The phone rings and Casey answers. It is
our friend, Mr. Fontana. Casey tells him he doesn't want to work for
him any more. Fontana says he thinks Casey will take this job: the
client is Clay Alden. "I'm not sure who he's looking for dirt on, but
I know he's willing to pay big time."
* The other three go upstairs to see Tyler. Casey asks who Clay wants
investigated. "He's a creep." Fontana says he doesn't know. Casey
says it is likely he is trying to hurt one of his friends. Fontana
says, for the third time, that he doesn't know. Casey declines the
job. Fontana says that if he turns down too many jobs, they'll stop
coming his way. Casey says he's doing fine right now. Fontana says
that he should think about his family and the future. Casey says that
he knows somebody who can do the job: Mike Jenkins. Fontana asks if
he is any good; Casey answers that "you don't need an MFA [Master of
Fine Arts degree, I guess] to take these pictures." Casey gives him
the phone number. The other three come back down. Ally asks who was
on the phone. Casey says it was Fontana. Ally asks what he wanted.
* Cooper asks who Fontana is. Casey says it's just someone he does
some work for on occasion. Stephanie says he's never mentioned that
to her, and he says that it isn't modeling work. Ally offers to get
drinks, to change the subject, but when that is met with silence, Casey
admits that Fontana is a P. I. and says that he doesn't want too many
people to know about it because he's "a little sleazy sometimes."
Stephanie asks if that means snapping pictures outside of motel rooms.
Casey says "sometimes." He says that Fontana just called with a job
for Clay and that he turned it down. He doesn't know who Clay wants
pictures of, and he suggests that they watch their backs. Ally says
maybe Casey should have taken the job, so they'd know more about it.
Cooper says he probably wants information about how crummy an executive
he will be at AE. Stephy asks if he will find anything. Cooper jokes,
"maybe my report card." Stephy offers to talk to Clay, but Cooper says
she is *not* going to talk to Clay. Cooper says Cabot knows about his
screw-ups, and Clay won't give him any new information. "Sweetheart,
guys, we have nothing to fear...but fear itself." Cooper smiles, but
 the other three look concerned.
* They all now have sodas. Cooper asks if they ever get the feeling
that all is right in the world. Ally says they should be in a beer
commercial. "Which one?" Ally says, "The one with, 'here's to good
friends...'" Cooper says he hates that commercial (as Stephy continues
to hum the music to the Lowenbrau commercial). Stephy notices that
Casey is asleep. Ally says he has been working very hard. She wakes
him up so he can go up and get to bed. Cooper tosses some wadded-up
papers at Casey and he asks what time it is. "Almost midnight."
There is a knock at the door. "Who in the world is that?" Casey gets
up and answers the door. It's his friend, Mike the dealer. Casey
goes outside to talk to him. Mike asks how the Bolivian "marching
powder" (cocaine) was. Casey says he doesn't want him coming around
unannounced, especially at this time of night. Mike says he came by
to thank him for the Fontana job. To show his gratitude, he offers
Casey another free sample. He says, "no thanks," but Mike slips it
 into Casey's pants pocket.
[Inside.]
Ally and Stephanie start cleaning up. Cooper asks Stephy to come over.
Cooper asks if she knows Mike. She says he works at the agency. He
says he heard something about him once, he can't remember what, but
it wasn't good. Stephy says he seems like a nice enough guy. Cooper
says he has been meaning to check up on Mike, and now he will follow
through on it. "I don't like him hanging around the house." Stephy
reminds him that he doesn't live there. "No, but my son does." We
see a shot of Mike laughing at Casey as Casey goes back inside.

STORYLINE: "DANTE" HUNTER?
           (location: Gwyneth's hotel room)
* Gwyneth enters the room. Curtis suggests that they go to a movie so
she can get her mind off of "Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Jeremy." Gwyn says,
"we've talked about all that." She asks him where the framed photo
of Jeremy is. There is a knock at the door; she answers it. It is
Charles, to see Curtis. "Do you mind telling me why you need a gun?"
* Curtis asks since when did they send big-time detectives out to
investigate gun permits. Charles says that he is "keeping an eye
peeled." Curtis asks if he is under surveillance now. Charles says
he is worried about Curtis as a friend, not as a cop. Gwyn asks why
Curtis wanted a gun. He says he was thinking about doing a little
hunting. Charles responds, "And I'm thinking about taking up ballet"
and asks for the truth. Curtis says he needs the gun for protection.
Charles mentions that Curtis came by the other night, talking about
brain tumors and restraining orders. Gwyn asks, "Restraining orders?
Against whom?" Curtis admits that it is all about Jeremy. Curtis
says he is sick and that sickness has turned him into a dangerous man.
Gwyn says Jeremy is their friend and he won't hurt them. Curtis says
Jeremy made up the attack story. Gwyn and Charles don't buy it. She
says that Dante is dead. Curtis agrees, but asks what if his soul, if
he had one, is still alive? Curtis says it happens all the time. Gwyn
says he isn't making any sense.
Curtis: "It's like I'm a magnet. And I just attract it, understand?"
Gwyn: "Attract what?"
Curtis: "Pure evil."
* Gwyn says he doesn't attract evil. Curtis says it makes sense:
Curtis: "What if evil was some kind of a virus? A virus that lives
 beyond its host?"
Charles speaks up. He says he sees a lot of terrible things, but that
the evil is "the randomness of it all." Curtis says this isn't random,
it is happening for a reason. He says he must have "invoked the spirit
of Dante somehow." He says even he doesn't believe it, but *something*
is happening here and he can't ignore. He says he never attacked
Jeremy and he never thought he was Dante. He was forced to make all
that up. He was covering for Jeremy, and when he mentioned Dante, he
thinks maybe he brought him back somehow.
The phone rings and Gwyn answers it. It is Gilbert posing as Jeremy.
Ava is in the background at her penthouse, making sure that Gilbert
 "cares about" Gwyneth.
Gilbert: "Hi, sweetie."
Gwyn: "Jeremy?"
Gilbert: "Yeah. How you doing? Missing me?"
Gwyn: "Yeah, but --"
Gilbert: "Good. I miss you, too. Can't wait to see you."
Gwyn: "Jeremy, could you come over here right away?"
Gilbert: "Well, what do you have in mind?"
Gwyn: "It's Curtis."
We see a shot of a rather scared Curtis.
* Gilbert is amazed to hear what Curtis said. (Curtis and Charles are
in the bedroom.) Gwyn says that Curtis said "Jeremy" had a brain tumor
and tells him about Curtis trying to buy a gun. She says that he said
it is why "Jeremy" is acting so strangely. Gilbert says he doesn't
think he was, and what was this about a gun again? Gwyneth says that
Charles came across Curtis' application for a gun permit. Gilbert says
that surely they're not going to approve it. "No, of course not."
But, she says, Charles wanted him to know about it because of Curtis'
 previous mental instability.
Gwyn changes the subject to "us." Gilbert tells her to forget about
what he said. He overreacted, due to fear of commitment. He asks for
her forgiveness. "I don't know." He tells her to take all the time
she needs. She asks about the brain tumor. He says, of course not.
He asks if she wants him to talk to Curtis about it. She says he is
really spooked about "Jeremy" right now. "I'll be gentle." Curtis
and Charles walk out of the bedroom. Curtis and Gilbert go outside
 into the hallway.
[In the hall. Cue nasty, spooky music.]
Gilbert: "I thought I asked you not to mention my ailments."
Curtis: "Well, I --"
G: "You betrayed me? I trusted you. Now why would you do that?"
For the next piece of Gilbert's dialogue, we see Gilbert alternating
with Dante (from Curtis' point of view).
G: "Need I remind you that I am privy to a couple of your secrets.
Would you like me to share those secrets with Charles and your mother?"
C: "No. I'm sorry. It won't happen again."
G: "Make sure it doesn't."
Gilbert puts his hands on Curtis' shoulder. When we see the next shot
of Gilbert, he *is* Dante. Curtis is petrified.

STORYLINE: A LITTLE EXCITEMENT
           (location: Ava's penthouse)
* We hear a helicopter, then Gilbert and Ava enter, laughing. They
wave good-bye to the helicopter. Ava tells Gilbert she had *so* much
fun: "On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say a 26!" Gilbert says the evening
isn't over yet. Alex appears out of nowhere and asks, "Oh, really?
 What's next?"
* Ava nervously greets Alex. She asks what happened. Alex says that
she got her wish: that when she was on the phone with them, she said
she wished they were home, and that they had all had enough of Mickey
and Goofy anyway. [Blasphemy!] Ava says she'll go up and say good
night to the kids. She does so. Alex grabs a bottle of champagne
out of the ice. (There is an elaborate dinner for two set up.) He
asks if they got a lot of work done. Gilbert says they did, though it
might not appear so. He says he has a plan for Burnell's to appeal
to the more upper class clientele. Alex says that must explain the
helicopter. Gilbert says they went to New York to catch the latest
_haut couture_ fashion show. Alex asks what that is, and Gilbert
explains it is a show with the latest fashions that noone ever buys.
He says that he and Ava "made a lot of great contact." Alex catches
the slip, and Gilbert says, "contactsssss, sorry." Alex asks what the
sudden retailing passion is all about. He explains that people's
interests and wants are always changing. Alex asks what that means,
and Gilbert says it is just what he said. Gilbert asks if Alex has
a problem with Ava and he working together. "No, I really don't, as
long as you don't have a problem with the fact that she's married to
 me."
* Ava comes back down and asks if everything is OK. Alex says all is
fine and asks if the kids are tucked in. Ava says they are, but Alexis
won't go to sleep without a kiss from her daddy. Alex leaves to do so.
Ava says this looks pretty bad. Gilbert maintains that it is *just*
business. Ava says they should conduct their business at the office
from now on. Gilbert says that will be difficult -- because of his
work at the agency, they can only meet after 5:00. Ava says then they
will meet after 5:00 at the office. Gilbert asks about the ground
rules -- can he order in? Ava says of course, be serious. He says
that he saw her face when they lifted off in the chopper: pure delight.
All of her troubles, out the window. Ava says she wants her marriage.
She says she lost Alex once because of a bunch of stupid mistakes, and
she vowed never to lose him again. Gilbert says maybe they weren't
mistakes. Maybe she just wants to shake things up a bit. Ava says
that maybe she should find a new partner. "Ava, it's me, Jeremy.
Am I the kind of guy to chase after a married woman?" "I've never
known you to be." "Voila." Ava asks about Gwyn, saying that she
never sees him with her any more. (Later, he calls Gwyneth -- see
 that storyline above.)
* Alex says he is not mad at her. Ava apologizes. "Why? You didn't
do anything." She says she feels like she did. He asks why. Ava
says it has to do with when they were together the first time:
Ava: "Alex, we wanted so much. We didn't necessarily want the things
we wanted, we just wanted to want them. Does that make any sense?"
Alex: "No."
Ava: "It was the pursuit. Alex, it was the pursuit. It was part of
 the fun."
Alex says things have changed: he has everything he wants. He has
her, and he has the kids. "Now what is so wrong with having everything
that you want?" They kiss...and kiss...and kiss.
Alex: "Race you upstairs?"
Ava: "You go on upstairs. I'm gonna lock the terrace. But put on those
 silk pajamas."
Alex: "But every time I do that, I always fall out of bed onto the
 floor."
Ava: "That's only when we use the satin sheets."
Alex: "I'm gonna go take those sheets off right now."
Ava laughs, as Alex goes upstairs. Ava goes out on the terrace and sees
another helicopter. She thinks of Gilbert's voice: "There's nothing
wrong with wanting a little excitement." Alex calls "Ava?" and that
snaps her back into reality. She closes and locks the terrace and
says she'll be right there. She hurries up the stairs.
