LOVING Update for Thursday, Sept. 28, 1995:

1. POLICE STATION
==================

1A. Betcha never thought you'd feel bad for Danny
       and
     Jeremy ponders the clicker

Danny is dragged, struggling, into the police station, closely followed
by Jocelyn, Alex, Richard and the camera crew. Richard wants to know
how it feels to risk your own life to save a child, only to be cuffed and
thrown into jail. Danny comes after Richard, saying he'll show him how
it feels. Alex pushes the camera crew away, and tells a cop that if they
don't leave, arrest them for obstructing an investigation. The cop shows
him the door, but he runs into Tony and Charles questioning Neal in the
hallway. Richard asks Charles that since they've brought Neal in twice,
does that mean they have proof he's the serial killer? Charles and Neal
go into the station, and Tony throws Richard out. Richard says his view-
ers have a constitutional right to know if Neal is the serial killer. Tony
says Neal has a constitutional right to privacy. "Isn't this a great country?"

Out in the station, Alex tells the desk sergeant that he's already read
Danny his rights, but read them to him again; we have to go by the book
on this one (since his lawyer is right there and all). Jocelyn says that
isn't necessary. Jeremy interrupts, saying he needs to talk to Alex.
Alex warns the desk sergeant "don't miss a comma with him," and goes
to talk to Jeremy. Jeremy says "something happened at the cave-in site."
Alex says no kidding -- I have a lot of work to do, what is it? Meanwhile,
the desk sergeant is droning on about Danny's rights, when Danny interrupts
him. He says he reads very well, but does he have a cute little poem about
his rights if he was set up? Jocelyn tells him to be quiet, it'll be okay.
Danny says yeah right, and I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Jocelyn
says he isn't going to do time for something he didn't do. "Oh yeah?" Alex
says, approaching the desk, "book him." Jocelyn gives Alex a look.

Danny is telling Alex that it wasn't rape, Ally asked him and set him up.
Jocelyn tells Danny there's no point in talking to Alex, he's not going to
listen. (Alex never looks up from his paperwork.) Danny says to ask Ally
about Casey's diary, her entire plan to set him up is all in there, as some
kind of payback for Casey. Danny gets pissed that Alex isn't listening.
Look, he says, if you're so convinced she's telling the truth, what do you
have to lose? And watch her, Danny says... see if she can look you in the
eye and lie to you the way she lied to me. Alex looks up and whips off his
glasses.

Alex is done with Jocelyn and Danny. He apologizes to Jeremy for blowing
him off earlier, and asks what he's got for him. Jeremy asks about the
clicking sound that he and Ally heard; what did it sound like? Jeremy says
he thinks he heard it at the rescue site.

Alex says Jeremy must remember who was standing around when he heard
the clicking sound? Jeremy says everyone was standing around, and he
couldn't tell where it came from, but he wants Alex to talk more about the
sound. Alex says they don't really know more. Alex gets the little clicker
toy out of his desk and asks if it sounds like this? Jeremy says no, that's
not it. Alex asks if it sounded like the noise metal lighters make when you
flip them open and closed? Jeremy says that's it, but no one was smoking.
Jeremy asks to see the psychological profile Gwyn worked up. Alex is
reluctant to give it to him, and doesn't want him to tell Gwyn he saw it;
it's the original. Jeremy says it's covered with notes. Alex says she's
been changing it as she goes along. Jeremy asks why, have there been
changes? Alex says no, he thinks she's changing it so it doesn't look like
she's pointing the finger at Trisha. Alex gets up as he sees Danny coming
out, in prison clothes, ahead of a cop and Jocelyn. Alex tells Jeremy to
tell him if the report sparks any memories.

Jocelyn is telling Danny not to let anyone provoke him, and she'll have
him out in the morning. Whoa, Alex says gleefully, I think you forgot
about the conditions of his probation; it's ONE strike and he's out. Alex
tells the cop to get Danny out of there. Danny goes out, singing "Take
me out to the ball game..." Jocelyn is glaring daggers. Alex gives her
a smug smirk.

Jocelyn says she doesn't blame Alex for thinking Danny is guilty, and
frankly she has thought the same thing, but this is different; he didn't
do this, and she thinks Alex knows it.

Jeremy is reading the file, and something catches his eye; he pauses
dramatically and heads out into the station.

Gwyn (after coming out of the room where Neal is being questioned: see
below) opens the folder where the psychological profile used to be, and
discovers the papers aren't in it.

1B. Neal still knows his rights, and still isn't talking: Cops get nowhere

Charles takes Neal into his office and asks him what his connection to the
Aldens is. Neal says he's not saying another word about the Aldens or
anything else. Gwyn, who has followed them in, says "maybe you'll tell
me... I think I have a right to know." Neal looks uncomfortable.

Gwyn tells Neal she needs to know who he is? Charles comes up with
some B.S. assignment for Gwyn so she leaves the room; Gwyn says it
can wait. Charles says that's an order. Neal attacks Charles for
expecting Gwyn to work after what she's been through. Gwyn leaves.
Tony comes in, and comments that Tony the person is saying that was
very gentlemanlike and protective, what a great guy; but Tony the cop
is saying why? Why all this concern about Gwyn and the Aldens? Neal
says he knows his rights, and he doesn't have to say anything. Charles
says why not, if he has nothing to hide? And why does he have this 20
year old photograph of Curtis and Trisha Alden? Neal says he knows it's
illegal to search his room without a warrant. Charles continues talking
about the picture, quoting the message "Aren't they lovely? P." Charles
says Neal better start talking, because they aren't leaving until he comes
up with some answers. Neal looks upset.

Neal says he'll take a lie detector test if all they'll ask about is the
murders, but the photograph or anything else is off limits. Charles tells
Tony that Mr. Warren is a material witness. Lock him up until he gives us
some of his secrets. Charles leaves, and runs into Gwyn. Charles says
he thought she was working on the other case. Gwyn says she's done, and
she needs to talk to Neal. Charles tells her to go ahead, she can't do any
worse than they did. Gwyn enters as Tony is telling Charles that he's a
nice guy, and Tony hates to see him go to jail, and for a gourmet like him,
the food alone is going to make him wish he'd talked to him. Tony gets up
to leave, and tells Gwyn that there's a uniform outside if Neal gives her
any trouble. Gwyn says to Neal "you're not going to hurt me, are you?"
Neal says he would never hurt her. Neal says she looks tired. Gwyn says
she doesn't sleep nights; there are too many questions and not enough
answers. Gwyn says he seems to like her, will he help her out? Neal
starts to stutter. Gwyn says she doesn't want to know why he has the
picture of her kids, but she does want to know why he came to her
apartment that night; what did he want to talk to her about? He said it
was important and she needed to listen. Well, she's listening now.

Gwyn says she doesn't believe him; if all he wanted to do was express his
sympathies, why was he saying things like "we all do things in life that
we're sorry for?" Neal says "did I say that?" Gwyn says yes he did.
Look, she says, she can tell Neal likes her family. The police think her
daughter had something to do with these murders, and she can't afford
to have them hurt or frighten her. Neal says she's a good mother. Gwyn
asks for his help; if he knows anything, she begs him to tell her. Tony
comes to get Neal. Gwyn asks if they're arresting him? Tony says chief's
orders, he's a material witness, unless he's going to start talking turkey.
Neal says if you're going to put me in jail, do it. Neal promises Gwyn
they'll talk later.

2. KATE'S
==========

2A. Ally is stressed and guilty

Ally is sitting on the stairs, looking upset. Alexis and Sandy come running
down the stairs past her, playing with toy guns, shouting "bang bang, you're
dead!" Ava takes the guns away, saying she doesn't want them to play with
guns, and to be quiet because Tyler's sleeping. Ava tells Kate that everyone
in this town is obsessed with murder, even the children. Ava says she hopes
this is finally over. Kate says that if she hopes it's over because they have
Neal, she's wrong. She doesn't know what Alex is thinking, suspecting Neal
of committing these murders. Ava says he's thinking what any person with
a brain would be thinking; why does Neal have a picture of Trisha and Curtis
Aleden as children in his sock drawer? Kate gives Ava a look. Ally comes
over, looking rattled. Ava asks her how Tyler is. Ally says he's sleeping.
Kate says she wishes Ally could bounce back as quickly. Ally starts to cry,
and says there are some things you never get over.

Ava says that low-life Danny Roberts is going to pay. Ally says she doesn't
want to hear his name. Kate says there's no excuse for what he did to Ally,
but he saved Tyler, so there's at least there's a little goodness in him. Ally
yells at everyone to stop! She can't hear this. She storms out of the room.
Kate and Ava are confused.

Ally is holding the diary and talking to Casey. She says he told her he would
always be near if she needed him, that all she had to do was reach out and he
would be there. Well, she needs him now. She did something so... just then
Ava comes around the corner and asks Ally who she's talking to. Ally says
myself. Ava brought her some decaffeinated tea, so she can sleep; Ava knows
she hasn't been doing much of that lately, because she hears her clumping
around. Ally apologizes. Ava tells her not to be sorry. Ava asks Ally to
talk to her. Whatever it is, Ava says, Ally will feel better if she gets it
out.
Ally looks as if she might tell Ava...

Ava says God knows she's done it all, it's not like Ally is going to shock her.
Ally asks what makes Ava think she's done something that would shock her?
Ava says she's been in trouble enough to know the look. Ally says she's just
a little spooked. She can't believe Danny Roberts saved Tyler's life. How
weird is that? Ava asks if that confuses Ally? It would confuse her. Ally
says she's hated him for so long for what he did to Casey... he didn't pull the
trigger, but he might as well have. Ava says that Kate would say something
philosophical like "a life for a life"... Danny might have been instrumental in
taking Casey's life, but he saved Tyler's. Ally asks if Ava believes that?
Ava doesn't know, because it's not the whole story; maybe he's even on the
Casey count, but that doesn't make up for the rape. Ally starts to cry. Ava
starts to comfort her, but has to go inside when she hears the kids fighting.
Ally flips through the diary, and reads the entry she wrote about framing
Danny, and someone trying to kill her and Gwyn, and her musing about whether
God was punishing her for framing Danny. Ally rips the page out and crumples
it up.

3. JACOB'S
===========

3A. Husband? What husband?

Angie and Jacob come into Jacob's apartment. Jacob asks where she learned
to run like that? Angie begs him to hold her. They start to make out, then
Jacob remembers he hasn't shut the door, and goes to close it. Angie starts
to unbutton her sweater quickly, but Jacob stops her, and slowly starts to
do it himself. They start to kiss, as soap-like seduction music plays in the
background.

Jacob and Angie are getting hot and wet (in the shower, what did you think I
meant? Actually, you're right). Some horribly appropriate song about "what
might have been" is playing in the background. Much funky camera work.
They apparently eventually decide they're clean enough, and get out. Jacob
takes Angie's hair down; a towel drops to the floor. The bed apparently looks
more fun, because they head over there and get themselves all messy again.
"What might have been..."

Jacob asks Angie if she's ever done anything bad in her life. Angie says not
until now. Jacob asks if she thinks this is wrong? Angie says not wrong...
necessary... inevitable... but complicated. Jacob asks if she's sorry? Angie
says she can't help but be sorry, but not for being with him; she just wishes
she could have arranged her life first, if their being there wasn't going to
hurt
someone else. But, Angie believes, if something is meant to happen, then it's
going to happen no matter how hard they fight to do the right thing. And it's
been clear to everyone but her for a long time that they were meant to be
together. Jacob says when she says thing like that, it makes him want to...
Angie wonders what kind of life they can have together? Jacob says he's not
exactly Mr. Stability, or a mother's dream, especially her mother. Angie says
maybe not, but her mother has known since she saw them together, and tried
to get Angie to face her feelings and be honest with herself before things got
too complicated. Sometimes, Angie says, I'm just not a good listener. Jacob
says it's a bad time to decide to start listening to her mother, especially
when
she was right. Angie says it was fear; she knew once she admitted to herself
what she felt for Jacob, there would be no turning back. Jacob asks if she
wants to turn back? Angie said even if she did want to, she no longer has a
choice. Smooch, smooch.

Jacob is caressing Angie's face. She bites on his finger. Jacob says she's
supposed to be asleep. Angie says she doesn't want to ever sleep again, and
miss a moment of this. Jacob doesn't want to think about her having to leave.
Angie says that most lovers say they want time to stand still, but she never
knew what that meant until now (hey, what about Jesse???). She says she
feels like she's finally in the right place at the right time, and she wants
the
clock to stop so she can stay forever. Jacob says then do it... stay. Jacob
says he knows that's not fair; she has to get back to her life. He doesn't
want
to make things harder than they already are for her. Angie picks up the phone
and calls home... she leaves a message for Charles on the machine. She says
she knows he's probably working, but she didn't want to bother him at the
station; she's had an emergency, and she won't be home tonight. Jacob thanks
her. Angie says don't thank me; I'd leave if I could, but I can't. Jacob
tells
her he loves her, and cuddles up to her chest.
