LOVING Update for Friday, September 22:

STORYLINE: BONEHEADS
 (location: police station)
* Alex asks Kate where Neal is. She doesn't know -- she says he said
he was going out of town because he was being harassed. Ava says that
 is because he has more secrets than the CIA.  Kate gets mad at Ava;
she can't believe Ava acted like the CIA and nosed around in his room.
Ava says that's because she told her that he had murdered his wife.
Alex says that they have to talk to him, regardless. Ava tells him to
get out there and find him -- he's wasting his time there. Find Neal
and Trisha and his case is solved.
* Alex says he has half the force looking for them. She tells him to
get the other half out there, then. Ava says she has a hard time with
him interrogating her mother. Kate says she can fend for herself. He
says he is not interrogating her; he is asking a few simple questions.
He gets the post card out and says it matches the photo fragments, and
that it is a photo of Curtis and Trisha when they were very young. Ava
says it proves that Neal lied to Kate, and tells Alex to find Neal and
Trisha; she thinks they are working together. "Thank you, Nancy Drew."
Ava tells him to not be condescending -- she is the only one trying to
solve this case! Alex says that if she was suspicious of Neal, she
should have come to him. He could have gotten a warrant. Now, they
can't use the post card. "And why not?" "Two simple words: illegal
search." "My, aren't we starting to sound like an attorney?" She
continues to accuse him of having a relationship with Jocelyn. He
says there is nothing going on between him and Jocelyn. "It's just one
jelly bean after the next, isn't it, Alex?" (Kate mouths "jelly bean"
while Ava continues to rant.) Alex asks why she won't trust him. She
asks if he would like the list in alphabetical or chronological order!
Kate says that's enough; she's ashamed of both of them.
* Kate says they're acting like a couple of ten-year-olds. Ava says
Alex started it. Alex says, "Did not." "Did too." "Did not." "Did
too." Kate says she meant five-year-olds. She says if they want to
fight, they should fight to save their marriage. Kate grabs her purse,
 glares at them and leaves.
* Both of them look pitiful. Alex extends his hand. Ava asks, "What am
I supposed to do with that?" "Hold it." He grabs her hand. He says,
"I'm sorry." "I'm sorry." "I know that you were just trying to help
me when you brought this picture in." She says she should have called.
She got so excited, she couldn't wait to tell him. He says he knows
what she is going through. He says she has to realize that there are
other people involved -- there are other people in real danger. He
says he is talking about work, and if she could just stay out of his
way... Ava starts to get defensive: "Stay out of your way?" He says
he didn't mean "stay out of his way" like she is thinking. She says
she knows *exactly* what he means. She screams at him from the door
that she will stay so far out of his way that he won't even see her.
He pleads that he meant "stay out of his way" in a different way than
she took it, but she has already stormed out of the door.

STORYLINE: BONEHEADS II
 (location: Angie/Charles' house)
* Angie walks down the stairs, thoughtful. She recalls kissing Jacob
(passionately) at the hospital. Charles interrupts her memory. He
asks if everything is OK. "That depends." "On what?" "On whether you
want to keep on pretending." He asks if this is about Lorraine. She
wants to know why he spent the day with her.
* He says he didn't know Lorraine would be at Jocelyn's office. She
asks why he kept it a secret -- she doesn't appreciate hearing from a
secretary that he just walked into the sunset with another woman. He
is baffled; he thought she understood. She says she is sick to death
of "understanding" -- she wants him to explain to her exactly who or
what Lorraine is to him. He wonders what happened to change her over
from "we're in this together" to "what is Lorraine to you?"
* "I'm not in your 'squeal room,' Chief Harrison." He says she opened
up this investigation. He says he doesn't want to fight with her. No,
that's not OK; she's sick and tired of pretending. He says he has been
up front with her about this from day one. She says, "Not exactly,"
and tosses down his 1975 HS yearbook. He says this is crazy; she says
no, she is for not saying anything sooner. Charles asks if this is all
about her being jealous of Lorraine. "Don't you turn this around on
me." She asks if he can deny thinking about her every minute since he
found out she was in town: Laurie -- no, Lorraine; a look; the time he
has spent with her; his trip to the hospital because a maid was brought
in; mooning over her picture like a lovesick teenager. After a pause,
she apologizes. "This isn't me; don't listen to me, I'm just tired."
But Charles is now angry. "Who do you think you are?"
* "How dare you accuse me after the hell you put me through?" "What are
you talking about?" "I'm talking about having to wait three months
while you decide whether you're going to marry me or not. I'm talking
about making love with you at night and wondering if it was me you were
making love to. At first, it was Jesse. That, I could deal with; that
I could understand. But then Jacob blows into town." "Jacob? What
does he have to do with anything?" She says she just looked at him
because he looked like Jacob. He says it tore him up that she might
be in love with another man. He asks if he ever threw it in her face.
No, he gave her a chance to work through it. Yes, he has feelings for
Lorraine: she had his kid -- is he not supposed to? "I'm sorry."
"You're *sorry*." He picks up his coat and walks toward the door.
 She calls to him that this is not his fault.  He doesn't slow down;
he walks out the door. She says, softly, that this is not his fault.

STORYLINE: NEXT TARGET: GWYN
 (location: Alden Mansion)
* Jeremy tells Gwyneth that he can't believe she didn't tell him about
Trisha. Lenox opens the door and they go in the mansion. Tony has
been there asking some questions: "You've been a big help -- NOT!"
He asks Gwyn why she is there. She says that's none of his business.
Tony says he thought they were on the same team and asks if she really
did see Trisha in the park. Yes, she thinks she wants to talk to her,
and (to answer the original question) she thought maybe Trisha would be
more comfortable approaching her there. He asks what she is going to
do. She doesn't know, but for now she'll wait there. She walks into
the living room. The portrait is off the wall and all of the furniture
is covered with sheets. "Be it ever so humble..."
* Tony says he needs to ask her some questions. Jeremy suggests that
now isn't the best time. Gwyn says she'll accept whatever punishment
is deemed appropriate over her withholding information about the photo.
He says they aren't looking to punish her; they just want the truth
about the killer. The door bell rings; it's Stephanie. She offers to
come back at a better time, but Gwyn says that Tony just has *a few*
questions for her. Tony says a mother knows her daughter better than
anyone else -- does she know where Trisha is? Gwyn says they didn't
have an idyllic relationship; she doesn't know her secrets, her hiding
places. He says she still knows her better than anyone. She says she
is beginning to wonder about that; she isn't sure she ever knew her.
* Tony says she must have some idea where Trisha might be. Jeremy asks
what about The Tides. Gwyn says it has been sold; Trisha wouldn't be
with a bunch of strangers. Tony says she must have *some* idea. Gwyn
says she doesn't know, and even if she did, why would she tell him so
he can go and arrest her. "My daughter is not a killer." Tony says
he needs to ask her a few questions. Gwyn says he said the same thing
about Curtis. Tony says that if Trisha is innocent-- Gwyn (nearly
screaming) says she *told* him she is innocent. Jeremy tells Gwyn
that Tony is only trying to help. Gwyn says Neal is doing all of this.
Tony says that Neal *is* his number one suspect right now, and Trisha
might be next on his list. He asks if she knows why Neal might be
going after Aldens. No, she has no idea why any of this is happening.
Tony says they'll find Neal and Trisha, and they *are* going to get to
 the bottom of this.
* As they walk down the stairs, Tony asks if she can imagine living in
a room like that. Stephanie says Trisha didn't really live there until
she was 16 or so. She says this house and these people were such a big
part of her life, and they're all gone now. Just like her own house:
she went back, and there was nothing there. It didn't feel like a home
any more. She says nothing good last forever. Tony says that's not
true -- some good things do last forever.
Jeremy enters. He says Gwyneth sends her apologizes and she is out on
the terrace. Stephy tells him to give her a hug for her. She and Tony
 leave.
[Later.]
Jeremy is staring at the portrait. Lenox enters to move it. He offers
to help. He says that it always reminded him of a billboard for an
optometrist, with its eyes watching over the world. He says now, they
don't have much to watch over. Lenox politely agrees. They move it to
the hall. He didn't feel comfortable having just anyone take it down.
When they get to the hall, Jeremy notices a door under the stairs. He
asks what it is. A butler's pantry, which hasn't been used in years.
 [Cue spooky music.]
[On the terrace.]
We see the female figure approach Gwyneth, pen clicking.

STORYLINE: A WELL-DOCUMENTED CRIME
 (location: Park)
* Ally and Tyler are in the park, searching for the diary. She explains
to him how important it is. We see Danny in the bushes, reading it.
* None.
* "Damn it!" She apologizes to Tyler for talking to him like that, but
it is an important diary. She tells him to go play "over there" and
she'll take him to Kate's for ice cream. Tyler leaves. Danny emerges
from the bushes. "You lookin' for this?"
* She says she doesn't want any trouble, she just wants the diary back.
She says she won't even call the police. He suggests she call them
and tell them that she found him. "What?" He says the diary is an
exciting read: all of her thoughts and feelings, her fears and regrets.
He says the cops might be interested in the diary: "I gotta hand it to
you, Ally. You set me up like a pro. I'm not easily suckered, but you
had me going all the way. When you asked me to make love to you, that
look in your eyes...hook, line and sinker. You must feel pretty damn
good about yourself, huh?" "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Suggestion: if you're going to set someone up for rape, don't write
it down in a book." We hear Tyler screaming for his mommy. Ally goes
toward Tyler, then stops, turns to Danny, and asks, "What did you do
 to him?!"
