LOVING Update for Thursday, September 14, 1995

Lots of talk and not much plot today; I was half expecting the serial
killer to blow up Tout Le Monde, since everyone was there. Alas,
just a lot of the Jacob/Lorraine/Charles/Angie love quadrangle,
and not much plot...

TOUT LE MONDE, *the* happening restaurant in Corinth tonight
=============
Tony and Steffi are going out on their date at Tout Le Monde. There's a
corsage on Steffi's plate as they are seated.
Steffi: "What's this?"
Tony: "Looks like a tuba to me."
Steffi says it's sweet. Tony says it's a gardenia. Steffi says no one has
given her a corsage since her junior prom. Tony says it's pretty corny,
but Steffi thanks him. Tony says she'll have to forgive him, he's not used
to "graceful" dining. Steffi says he means "gracious." Tony says either
one, he's not used to it. Steffi asks what the purpose of this gracious
meal is. Tony says you and me, dinner... Steffi says she gets the feeling
that it's more than just a meal. Tony asks if it's that obvious? He says
he's not good at saying what he wants to say.
Steffi: "YOU, Mr. 50,000 words a minute?"
Tony: "I know the words, but it's more corny than the flowers."
Steffi: "Spit it out, Tony."
Tony: "I want to court you, Steff."
Steffi's eyes widen, and she raises her eyebrows.

Angie and Charles are also having dinner at Tout Le Monde. Angie says
she feels like they're on a first date. Charles asks if that's bad? Angie
says no, it's just a little strange. Charles apologizes for what he's been
putting her through with Lorri and Bree. Angie says Charles hasn't been
putting her through anything, let's forget about it and enjoy the evening.
Just then, Jacob and Lorraine come in the door.

Lorraine tells Jacob that she's never been to that restaurant before.
Jacob says she told him already. Lorraine says she repeats herself when
she's nervous. Jacob asks if she's still nervous around him? Lorraine
says it's not him... she just feels stupid, having said that she has feelings
for Charles... just then, she spots Angie and Charles. Lorraine and Charles
make eye contact; Angie doesn't look thrilled.

Jacob tells Lorraine that it's okay if she wants to go somewhere else.
Lorraine says it doesn't bother her that Charles is there. Jacob says oh
right, she's only still in love with the man. Lorraine tells him to shut up.
What is she waiting for, he asks, for Charles to come over and say "hey
Lorri, it's been me and you all along?" Lorraine says don't make me
regret telling you. Jacob says he's just trying to keep the truth on the
table. Lorraine says the truth is even though she may love Charles, he's
a taken man, and she is with a very handsome man in a handsome
restaurant, and she's going to enjoy herself, Charles or no Charles.
Lorraine says he may escort her to the table, and the maitre'd seats
them.

Steffi says she doesn't think she's actually ever been "courted" before.
Tony says then it's about time that she is. Steffi is uncomfortable, and
Tony wants to know why? Steffi says in case he hadn't noticed, she's
a bit "ensante" (?) Tony doesn't get it, either. Steffi says she thought
he'd gotten to "E" already. Tony says he guesses he missed that one.
Steffi says "pregnant." Tony says so what; where is it written that a
guy can't date a girl, uh, woman, who's in the family way? Steffi says
it's sweet and she's flattered, but... Tony says he's not trying to be
sweet. Steffi says maybe if things were different. Tony says he's
not asking for a commitment, he just wants them to get to know each
other better, and to convince her that he's not the mug of the week.
Steffi says she never said he was the mug of the week, but Tony says
yes she did. Steffi says she might have thought it at one time, but
she doesn't think it anymore.  Tony says he just wants some time;
he's like fine wine, an acquired taste. Steffi is impressed that he knew
"acquired." Tony says that word is the 4th one he learned, so it has
sentimental value. Steffi asks when Tony "acquired" these feelings
for her. Tony says maybe the first time he saw her. Steffi says
yeah right; "yeah, she's real pretty, but she's real dumb." Tony
says at least he got one part right. But it's gotten worse, or better
depending on how you look at it. He says it might sound crazy, but
the other night at the town meeting, when she kissed him, he knew
this was the real thing.

Charles asks if they should go over and talk to Lorraine and Jacob?
Angie says let's just make this our night. Charles says whatever
she says. Angie says this is so... Charles says it's okay, she doesn't
have to say anything; he just wants to look at her. Angie says maybe
we should... Charles says should what? Angie says nothing. Talk
about my great beauty, she says.

Lorraine is babbling on and on. Jacob says "talk to me." Lorraine says
she can't shut up. Yeah, Jacob says, but you haven't said anything yet.
Lorraine asks what he wants her to say? Jacob says to say what she's
feeling. Lorraine says it's hard to put Angie and Charles out of her
mind, especially when they're sitting over there. She feels guilty
about Brianna. Jacob says it's not her fault that Bree found out Charles
is her father. Lorraine says it's the way she found out; maybe if
Lorraine had told her as soon as she knew Charles lived in Corinth,
it would have been easier on her. Jacob is skeptical, saying there's
no way this could have been easier on either one of them. Lorraine
says Charles is suffering too. Jacob says maybe it's his turn. Lorraine
chastises him, and Jacob says sorry, he lost his head. He just wishes...
Lorraine interrupts him, saying remember what they say: be careful
what you wish for, you might get it. Jacob says it's an old wives tale.
Lorraine says he's wrong. She says she wishes to be with Charles, but
not like this; like it used to be, when he was in love with her. Jacob
ponders this.

Steffi says the kiss was nice, but that doesn't mean... Tony says this
is not about kissing, it's about them getting to know each other better.
Steffi says she wants to get to know him better to, but... But what,
asks Tony? Oh, I get it, you don't find me attractive. Steffi says she
does find him attractive. Tony says great, doesn't that count for
something? Steffi says there was a time when she thought that
chemistry and attraction meant everything, and look where it got her.
Tony says he's not Cooper or Clay; he can't promise her many things,
but he promises he will never hurt her. Steffi says they promised
her the same thing. Tony gets a little mad, saying he doesn't care
what they said. His father may have been a lot of things, but he taught
Tony to respect women, and told him that if he ever found the right
girl, he should never, ever let her go, even if she is "ensantay," or
whatever. Steffi smiles.

Lorraine and Angie run into each other in the hallway outside the powder
room. They awkwardly say hello, and say they saw each other before.
Angie says they would have come over to say hello, but she thought the
two of them might have wanted to be alone. Lorraine says they thought...
she apologizes to Angie. Angie says there's nothing to be sorry about.
Lorraine says she would never have brought Bree to Corinth if she knew
Charles lived there. Angie says let's all try to forget about all that
and have a nice evening; she thinks they all deserve one. Lorraine agrees.
She and Angie hug, but Angie looks upset.

Tony and Steffi are dancing and laughing. Lorraine approaches her table.
Jacob asks what Angie said, and Lorraine says Angie said they should
all have a pleasant evening, and that Angie is an exceptional woman.
Jacob says so is she. Jacob asks Lorraine to dance, and she says she
could be persuaded. They go dance. "When A Man Loves A Woman" comes
on, and Lorraine catches Charles' eye, then bolts. Charles goes after
her; Jacob is bewildered. He's standing alone on the dance floor, when
Angie walks toward him on the way back to her table. They share a
long look.

"I seem to have lost a husband," Angie says. Jacob asks her to dance.
Angie says no thanks, but Jacob says what harm can a little dance do?
Angie dances with him.

Charles catches up with Lorraine. She says she's fine, it was just...
the song, Charles asks? The dance? That night? Lorraine says, and
Brianna. She says it's sweet that he remembered. Same old same old
about when Lorraine tried to tell him she was pregnant, and he thought
she was talking about getting married. Lorraine says we were young,
let's just stop beating ourselves up. She says they never did finish
that dance, and takes his hand. They start to dance in the hallway.

Angie pushes Jacob away, saying they shouldn't be doing this. Jacob
says yes we should, it's only a dance. Angie says it's not only a dance,
and they both know it, her eyes filling with tears. Charles and Lorri
appear in the doorway and see this scene. Angie goes to her table.
Lorraine goes to hers, grabs her stuff, and takes off. Charles follows
Angie. She says she wants to go home. Charles says all he was trying
to do was... "IT'S ALL RIGHT," Angie snaps. She says he doesn't have
to explain, this night is... let's go. Charles and Angie leave. Jacob is
standing in the middle of the dance floor, looking perplexed.

KATE'S
======
Kate is bringing tea to Ava and Ally, but they don't want any. Kate says
she forgot to tell Ally that Buck called, to remind her about their outing
tomorrow. Ally comments snippily that she doesn't have Alzheimer's, she
remembers. Kate chastises her, and Ally says she just wishes everyone
would quit hovering over her. Ally hears Danny in her head saying "you
set me up" over and over. She gets up. Kate asks where she's going, and
Ally says to get some air, and to tell that guard that Alex hired to stand
somewhere that she can't see him. Ava says it's gotta be hard for Ally;
every time Ava tries to talk to her, she seems like she's keeping a secret.
Kate says it takes one to know one. Ava asks what she means, and Kate
wants to know what's happening with her and Alex?

Ava says her life's an open book. (Ava is crying through this whole scene.)
Kate asks her to explain the page about why she and the children are staying
there. Ava says she explained that last night. Kate says Ava said it was
because Alex was working so hard. Ava says yes, that and since Tony's
staying at their place it seems more like a locker room than an apartment.
Kate says then it has nothing to do with you deciding to move everyone to
Florida without telling Alex? Ava asks her if she doesn't want the kids and
her to stay there? Kate says of course she loves having them there. Ava
asks well, then what's the problem? Kate says Ava seems to be the one with
the problem. Kate says she knows the killings have really spooked Ava, but
selling the houses and pulling up stakes is a little drastic. Ava says so is
being
murdered. Kate reluctantly agrees that there is a possibility of that, but
there
is a greater possibility that the way she is acting will make her lose Alex.

Kate asks how Alex felt about her job-hunting for him in Florida. Ava says
he was a little miffed. Okay, he was furious. Ava says she's giving him
time to cool off. Anything else? Kate says you tell me. Ava says no... yes,
there's something else. She was a little jealous of someone. Kate asks if
there was a reason for it, and Ava says "YES... no... I don't know, it's just
a feeling." Kate says enough of the feelings, just go back to Alex. Ava says
it's not that simple. Kate says to "Ava Marie" that she hasn't given her an
order in a long time... but she knows Kate is right, doesn't she? Ava says
well, if you say so, I guess I have to admit it. Kate gives Ava a hug, and
says he's a good man, and if Ava ever gets tired of him, she can send him
to Kate. Ava tells her to find her own cop. Ava asks if the kids can stay
there tonight. Kate says only if they let her win at Go Fish. Ava and Kate
tell each other they love each other, and Kate tells her to go fix things
with Alex before it's too late.

Ava walks past Ally on the porch on her way out. Ally is flashing back, to
being all dressed up and dancing with Casey on the porch. She writes
in a journal. "I know I did the right thing, Casey. Danny Roberts belongs
in jail, and if no one else would put him there, I had to. Someone tried to
kill me and Gwyn the other night. Do you think it was God's way of
punishing me? But if there is a God, he'd understand, and he'd forgive
me, because he knows Danny took you away from Tyler and me." But
if it was right, why do I feel so guilty, Ally says aloud.

MASTER'S
========
Alex is pacing around, looking at his watch. He sits in a chair, then says
"OW!"
and pulls out something sharp that he sat on. He goes over to pick up the
phone
and starts dialing, then he puts down the phone, muttering "No. Every time
there's a minor little crisis, you go running home to your mother. Well, this
time you can stay there until you're old and gray." The doorbell rings; Alex
heads for the door saying "Aha... I thought so," and opens the door. It's
Jocelyn. She apologizes for not calling ahead. Alex asks why she's here at
all. Jocelyn says because the three of us have a problem, and it's about time
they sat down to deal with it.

Alex asks the three of us have what problem? Jocelyn says Danny and Ally,
of course. Jocelyn asks if she can come in, if she promises not to bite? Alex
lets her in. Jocelyn hands him a bottle of wine, and says it's a peace
offering.
Alex says she didn't have to do that. She says she wanted to make their talk
seem less like a summit meeting. Alex says they shouldn't be talking at all
out
of court. Jocelyn asks him if it really has to come to that? Alex says he
wishes it wouldn't, but... Jocelyn says if they would stop going at each
others'
throats every 5 seconds, maybe they could work it out. Alex says it's gone
beyond the two of them working it out. Jocelyn asks him if he will just listen
to her for a second? Alex hems and haws, but agrees, and says he'll go find
a corkscrew. Jocelyn asks if they shouldn't wait for Ava? Alex says that
could be a very long time.

Alex and Jocelyn are drinking wine and eating pretzels. Jocelyn says no
matter how much he loves Ally, he's got to see that her story doesn't
make sense. If she hated Danny so much, why was she spending so much
time with him? Alex says they've been over this. Jocelyn says she knows
what Ally must feel; she knows Ally has been through a lot. Alex says
he doesn't think so. Does she know what it's like to be brutally assaulted?
Jocelyn says maybe she knows a little more than she cares to reveal to
Alex right now. (Alex looks a bit taken aback.) But the fact of the matter
is, she knows the cops are getting impatient to find Danny the longer he's
out there, and she doesn't want him getting shot. And she doesn't think
Alex wants to see Ally go to jail. Alex scoffs at that, saying it's not even
a remote possibility. Jocelyn says he knows damn well Ally set Danny up.
Alex stands up and says this conversation is over. Jocelyn says the
truth is going to come out, it always does [Ed: Hey, she knows her soap
laws!]. Just then the door opens [of course]. Ava comes in saying "Alex..."
she stops when she sees him standing there with Jocelyn. "Well, I hope
I'm not too late... I love a good party," says Ava.

Alex tells Ava it's not what she thinks. Ava says don't even bother.
Jocelyn says she knows it sounds corny, but it's true. Ava says "you
want corny, I'll give you corny: I help my new friend, give her a make-
over, new hair, makeup... c'mon Joss, all the guys will fall all over you.
I just didn't know one of them would be my husband. This wine is very
average." Alex tells her she's being ridiculous. Ava asks how so?
Jocelyn says she's going to let them work it out. Ava asks if it's
ridiculous to ask how long it's been going on, just for the record? Alex
says there's nothing going on. Ava asks how about the elevator; was
that the beginning, middle, what? Alex says he's not listening to this.
Ava tells Jocelyn she hopes she's hot, to take the place of a marriage
and two kids... "is she worth it, Alex?" Ava says don't answer that,
it seems like you've already made your choice. Ava stomps out.
Jocelyn looks at Alex, who leans on the bar with his head in his hands.

STEFFI'S
========
Tony brings Steffi home. He stops in the doorway. Steffi asks isn't
he coming in? Tony says not tonight. Steffi says you're not mad at
me, are you? Mad at you, Tony says, he's the opposite, he's glad
at her. Steffi asks then why is he standing in the hallway? Tony
says if they're going to have a proper courtship, they need to keep
it proper. He says goodnight, and gives her a little kiss. Steffi smiles
after him.

See you next week!

FLC Tony, who's rather goofy, but cute anyway!
