Another LOVING Mini-Update for Friday, September 9:

STORYLINE: POTPOURRI
           (starting location: Police Station)
* Trucker enters, telling Alex that he understands he is about to become
a rich man. Alex explains that Kate is turning down the offer because
she doesn't want her family to turn into the Aldens. Alex says Ava had
some problems with the decision at first, but he talked to her, and he
 thinks he changed her mind.
[At the hospital.]
Ava is holding a stack of clothes. A volunteer is telling her that the
box for donations to the homeless is not a shopping center. Ava says
they are her clothes, and the volunteer asks why she donated them if
she still wants them. Ava says she just lost $10 million. Adrian,
the volunteer, tells Ava to be more careful with her money, then is
called away. She says, "Feel free to leave." Ava says to herself
 that she can't believe this.
[At the hospital emergency room.]
Gilbert is bringing Curtis into the hospital. A doctor tells the
nurse to take him to examining room four, then tells Gilbert that
this sounds like an aborted suicide attempt, so she is obligated to
report it. Gilbert says nothing could be further from the truth.
He says that Curtis *wouldn't* try to kill himself, but the doctor
reminds "Jeremy" about Curtis' Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He
says that he and Curtis had been talking about politics, and he doubts
very much that Curtis would kill himself over that. The doctor asks
if he is sure, and he assures her he is. She leaves.
* Ava is digging into the box again. Gilbert approaches. After taking
a few moments to --um-- admire the scenery (calm down, Rick), he says,
"well, who's the fool that threw her away?" Ava explains to "Jeremy"
that she donated some new clothes with some old. He asks if she made
that realization *after* Kate gave up the money. She tells him (with
very little conviction) that Alex made her realize that there is more
to life than "things and money." Gilbert tells her to "face it" that
she wants it all, and when Ava gets upset about that [and goes back to
digging into the box], he says that is a *good* thing. He asks what
is wrong with ambition. He says that Ava got the raw end of the deal.
Ava says they didn't offer *her* the money. Gilbert tells her that
he's sure Cabot would give her something. She says Alex would never
go for it. Gilbert tempts her anyway, and she goes to the pay phone.
She calls the mansion and asks for Cabot.
[At the police station.]
Trucker thanks Alex for the car he bought for Dinah Lee. [A reminder:
Leo's car which DL and Ava used on their "Thelma and Louise" trip.]
Alex says that Leo had it on consignment and when he found out about
DL, he and Shana gave the car to her as a gift.
Alex asks Trucker what's wrong. He says he is trying to picture DL
driving, because it may not happen again. Alex tells him not to worry
 about it.
Trucker says someone from the NTSB came by to interview Dinah Lee about
the crash. He says it freaked her out a little bit. He says that she
is like a child -- very trusting one minute, then she gets scared and
depends on him. He says it is weird, and he feels like she needs him
to protect her. He wants to make things easier for her, but he doesn't
 know how...
[At the hospital.]
A nurse has paged a doctor. "It's Miss Mayberry. We have a big
 problem!"
* [At the police station.]
Alex reassures him that you can't keep someone else out of trouble, and
uses Ava as an example. Trucker asks if that means he should give her
some "space" and Alex says that is *exactly* what he means -- she needs
to be able to pick herself up from her problems. He tells him to be
open and honest with her, and that's the best advice he could give her.
[At the hospital.]
Cabot gets off the elevator. Ava thanks him for coming, and he says he
also came to see George Carmichael, a member of the hospital board. He
says he thinks George doesn't know about his "resurrection," and says
he will ask George's secretary to announce him as "Mr. Lazarus." Both
 laugh.
Cabot gets down to business, asking why Ava asked him down there. She
thanks him for his generous offer to Kate, and Cabot points out that
without Ava's grandfather, Alden Enterprises probably wouldn't exist.
Ava offers to talk to Kate again about the offer, saying that they are
"almost family" and she will do anything to help. Ava tells him that
perhaps his offer was too large, and Kate might accept a smaller offer.
She asks if it is true that Deborah has moved out of the mansion, and
Cabot says she has. She asks if, therefore, Deborah won't be running
Burnell's any more; he says she won't. Cabot says he has "other plans"
 for Clay and Deborah. [Hmm!]
Ava says that when Leo still owned the store, she "turned it around."
She says that she tried to buy it (with the employees' help), but Clay
beat her to the punch. Cabot says he didn't realize that. She says
she hopes the new owner is better than Deborah, that she hopes the
store won't "go to pot." "Ava?" "Yes?" "If you want the store, it's
yours." "Really?" "*If* you really want it. You know, it's one thing
to manage a store, it's another thing to own it and run it." Ava hugs
Cabot and thanks him profusely. Cabot says again that it is a big
responsibility and it will take a lot of her time. She says she has
the special talent she needs to both run the store and support her
 family. They shake hands.
* [At Dinah Lee's room.]
Trucker enters, as the doctor and nurse are talking to a security guard.
The guard is telling them that he doesn't know how this could happen.
Trucker where Dinah Lee is. "We don't know." The camera pans to her
 empty bed.
[At the police station.]
Ava enters. "Hello, sweetheart." She offers to take Alex to lunch, and
he says it has to be at the diner because he has less than an hour. He
kisses her. She asks what that was for, and he says he was thinking
about how lucky they are. He tells her about Trucker's venting. Ava
says they really are lucky. Alex agrees, saying they have their health
and their kids, and they don't really *want* anything more. Alex says
Ava had him worried -- he saw the dollar $ign$ in her eyes, and he
worried that this life is enough for her. She says of course it is,
but... She pulls him aside and tells him that Cabot saw her today, and
he is depressed about Kate not accepting his offer. She says Cabot
*insisted* on giving her something, so he offered her Burnell's. "He
*offered* you --? [Pause.] You didn't accept, did you?" "Well, Alex,
I *had* to." She says he came in, papers drawn up, saying he couldn't
sleep at night, and that turning him down would have been like pushing
him away! Besides, she says, she really wants the store. "Now let me
get this straight. He came to you. You didn't set this up yourself."
"No. Absolutely not." Alex apologizes to her. He says he didn't mean
to sound so distrustful -- thinking that she lied to him. He gives her
a hug and kiss. Ava looks distressed...

STORYLINE: DOUBLE JEREMY
           (starting location: Abandoned warehouse?)
* Jeremy struggles with the chain attached to his ankles. "DAMN IT,
 Gilbert!"
* None.
* Gilbert enters. He asks why Jeremy is so damn nice. He is sick of
people seeking him out for therapy. Jeremy offers to take over for a
while. "Cute." Gilbert tells Jeremy that Ava could sit on his couch
any time, and asks why he gave her up. Jeremy tells him to stay away
from Ava, and asks who else he has been talking to. "Curtis, mostly."
Jeremy asks if Gilbert told Gwyneth about it; he says no, he covered
for him. Jeremy tells Gilbert that Curtis has Post Traumatic Stress
Syndrome. He says he knows *all* about it, and that the knowledge
will be useful to him later. "And speaking of useful..." Gilbert
brought the sketch pad. He wants Jeremy to do some artwork. "Why
should I help you?" Gilbert says he wants Jeremy to prove his
usefulness. "You'd kill me?" "One would certainly consider the
possibility." He tosses the sketch pad and a laptop to Jeremy and
tells him to get to work -- he wants a graphic for the Verners(?)
account in *one hour*! Gilbert leaves. Jeremy sees the phone jack
for the computer, plugged into the wall, and says "that's it!" He
 opens up the laptop...
* [At Tess' office.]
Gilbert is talking to Tess on the phone. He says he can't find what
she needs, and recommends that she go on with the presentation and
if he finds them, he will messenger them to her. Curtis enters.
Gilbert wishes Tess luck and hangs up. Curtis says, "Something's not
right." "She found something wrong?" "No. No. With you. There's
something not right here." Gilbert stares at him...
[At the warehouse.]
Jeremy pulls himself to the wall with the power cord. (?) He extends
his reach and plugs the modem cord into the wall. He is ecstatic, but
he has to remember the number to dial into. He does, and [before the
modem on the other side answers!] he celebrates!!
[At Tess' office.]
Curtis says he was too groggy before to figure out what was going on.
He doesn't understand why "Jeremy" is covering for him -- with the
plane crash and the pills both! "Of course I covered for you. I'm
your friend." "That's not the kind of friend you are. You don't lie
for people." They hear the modem answer. Gilbert explains that Tess
always leaves her computer powered-on so she can dial into it. He
 turns and reads:
     --- INCOMING MESSAGE ---
     Tess
This is Jeremy. I need your help.
Curtis grabs Gilbert and tells him not to turn away from him. "Get
your hands *off* of me!" He asks what is going on. Nothing. He asks
why he is being so weird lately. He says "Jeremy" acts like he doesn't
even care any more. Gilbert looks at the screen periodically as he
says, "Of course I care. I took you to the doctor, didn't I?" "You
*yelled* at me!" "Just shut up. Just shut the *hell* up! I saved
your butt, so how 'bout a little gratitude, you little *worm*!" With
that, he shoves Curtis away. Curtis asks, "who *are* you?" We see
 a shot of a stone-faced Gilbert...
