				LOVing Update
			    Tuesday, August 30th, 1994

Today's episode finds us with 2 storylines:

Too little	with Ava, Alex, Deborah, Tess and Jeremy! (Jeremy not)
Too late	with Steffi, Cooper, Clay, and Cabot

[Too little]

This storyline takes place at Burnell's. We see Alex outside of a
dressing room and we hear Ava and Deborah fighting inside the dressing
room. Ava is furious saying ... I will not wear this! ... Alex coaxes
her to come outside so he can see and she comes out dressed in a 30's
type dancer's costume at Deborah's insistence to promote Lady Alden Soap.
It's really cute, short white shorts with wide legs, and a sleeveless top
complete with a pink collar bow and matching pink bow in her hair. She's
also wearing silver dancing sandals. She says she's paid to be the store
manager, not to run around in this little outfit! Alex thinks it's a
cute little outfit.

Ava's furious, Deborah leaves, and Alex tries to talk her into
submitting. Alex reminds her that's it's only a job and not as important
as her home and family. Ava says she's not comparing the two, but that
she's the one who's qualified to run the store, not Deborah. Alex
wonders if Ava misses all that she had when she was in Deborah's place as
part of the Alden family. Ava assures him that's not the case. She just
wants the store! Alex teases that he can off Deborah, and Ava can marry
Clay (again) then she'll have it all. Ava doesn't think that's funny.

Tess and Jeremy! are there to see Deborah about the Lady Alden Soap
campaign and they are talking in the store just outside the dressing room
where Alex and Ava are. Jeremy! is watching Ava with a sensual gleam in
his eye. Tess picks up on this and remarks about ancient history. This
takes Jeremy! by surprise, a pleasant surprise when he "remembers" his
involvement with Ava. Tess and Jeremy! listen to some music for the
campaign with Deborah, and Deborah whines that no one takes her
seriously. The song was fitting for the scene - but I can't remember
which one it was! Help! - the scene ended with Alex getting Ava to dance
with him after he calmed her down about Deborah, and with Jeremy!
watching them dance with a wolfish grin on his face.

Tess and Jeremy! have a private talk in there somewhere. Tess tells him
of her breakup with Cooper. (Sara decided to start goo-gooing very
loudly at this point and I missed exactly what Jeremy! said to Tess about
Cooper ...) but whatever Jeremy! said, it surprised Tess. She agreed
wholeheartedly with the advice but wondered what changed with Jeremy!
because he'd never give advice like that before! Jeremy! replies,
... Did I contrict myself, then do I contradict myself ...

[Too late]

At Cabot's urging, Cooper has realized that he needs to tell Steffi that
he loves her. Cabot has also told Cooper that he will tell him everything
once he sets things straight with Steffi. Cooper is at Ally's house and
he phones Steffi at her hotel room.

As the phone rings in the hotel room we see Steffi rush in to answer it.
She's still dressed in that awful, frumpy, greenish shorts thing with her
hair in a french knot and part of the front hanging loose and held atop
her forehead with a bobby pin! What were they trying to say with that
get up? I'm a mess?

She answers the phone and says hello to Cooper. Cooper tells her that
he needs to talk to her. As Steffi is listening, she turns and sees a
dejected Clay, hair unkempt, unshaven, suit coat unbuttoned and hanging
crumpled from his listless shoulders, sitting on her bed. He looks
pleadingly at her and she stammers to Cooper that now isn't a good time.
She tells him that she'll come to Ally's later to talk to him. She hangs
up abruptly.

Back at Ally's Cooper hangs up and is confused. Ally tries to brush it
off saying Steffi must have been busy but Cooper sensed that something
was wrong. He decides to wait there for Steffi to come, Ally lends
support.

Back at the hotel, Steffi turns to confront Clay. Clay tells her that he
still loves her. Steffi is strong and tells him to get lost that she
can't be hurt like that ever again! Clay berates himself for letting
Cooper get so close to Steffi. Steffi says Cooper has nothing to do with
it. Clay thinks not, he says he knows Cooper - perhaps better than
Cooper does. Cooper is an Alden, Clay can see the drive and ambition in
him. And Clay warns Steffi that Cooper will have no room in his life for
someone like Steffi when he makes him climb to the top! Steffi is amazed
and defends Cooper by saying that there is nothing between them, and
turns the remarks on Clay ... You know that because you see yourself in
him!

Clay backs down and once again becomes the dejected, broken man. He
tells Steffi that she now knows what Deborah is holding over him! Cooper
must have told her that Cabot is alive! Steffi tries to deny the
knowledge but fails. Clay tells her that he will lose everything! But
he still loves her, he needs her. Steffi tries to deny him, but then he
quietly asks her ... Steffi, I have nothing to offer you. All I can do
is - beg. I'm begging you Steffi, take me back. ... And she falters. He
has played on her true weakness, that of needing to be needed. She walks
over to where he is sitting on the bed and touches his bent head. The
cradles his head against her and brokenly sighs his name. She bends down
on her knees and lifts his face in her hands to kiss him. He sits
motionless for a moment letting her take control, then makes his move to
deepen the kiss. ...

Later we see Cooper sitting on Ally's front porch happily contemplating
the night and telling Steffi that he loves her, when she approaches -
still wearing the same outfit and her hair in the same 'do. (?)
She starts to apologize for her earlier abruptness on the phone ... No,
that's ok Steffi ... she sits down ... I can't believe it happened this
way ... what? ... Clay. He was in my hotel room waiting for me when you
called ... all of Cooper's earlier anticipation flees in that split
second ... And you took him back didn't you? ... I know what you're going
to say Cooper ... No Steffi, you have *no idea* what I was going to say
... But I had to ... Fine! I wish you both a wonderful life! ... he's up
and pacing about angrily now ... After a few attempts at polite
conversation she realizes it's hopeless and leaves saying she's got to
get up early for a shoot. Cooper is coldly polite and wishes her well.

As he enters the house, Ally hugs him and says she's sorry - they heard
everything because the door was open. Cooper blames himself for not
telling Steffi earlier how he felt. Now it's too late ...

Cabot is flipping out. He's caught in the time warp, thinking it's the
30's during the depression, and is having an imaginary conversation with
his father. In it, his father is belittling his attempt to stand on his
own and being a short order cook. This reminds Cabot that he should get
back to the Diner to his job! Money's scarce these days with the
depression you know. Cooper stops him telling him that he doesn't need
to worry about money, Cabot becomes distraught and collapes in tears on
the couch. Cooper tries to comfort him.

As Cabot regains some control, Cooper tries to get him to tell him what's
going on ... Uncle Cabot, you have to trust me enough to tell me what
you're afraid of. You know something that could destroy the family, tell
me what it is! ... Ally is there listening, Cabot seems to become Cabot
and not Buddy as his voice gets stronger ... All right. I'll tell you
everything, but how can you forgive me? And I'll try to make it right
... the last part is said to Ally ...

And that's it for Tuesday!
