Welcome to the Thursday, August 4, 1994 Loving Update!

In the park

Steffi and Cooper are talking. Steffi reaches up to give Cooper a kiss
on the cheek, and the two swap major spit. Cooper accidently takes a
picture with the camera that Alex gave him. A picture of Cabot Alden.
Cabot gets up and leaves. Steffi pulls away.
S: What was that?
C: I believe it's called a kiss.
S: I know it's a kiss, but where did it come from?
C: I don't know. Can I ask you something?
S: Uh huh.
C: Do you feel what I do?

Clay's office at Alden Enterprises

Deborah is going on and on and on about Burnell's. Clay is *trying* to read
a report. Deborah says they can't just sit around waiting for Cabot to show
up, they've got to live their lives. Clay says, what's left of them. In
walks Isabelle. Clay is surprised to see her. She says that she received
a post card from Cabot. It is post marked Corinth.

The Tides

Trucker is talking to Mrs. G about when Trisha left him while she was
pregnant. Dinah Lee arrives on the porch just in time to overhear part
of the conversation. "I miss Trisha so much. If I could only get her
back, I could have my life again." Dinah Lee is shocked. She leaves
quickly without knocking.

Opening credits

The Tides

Mrs. G says that Trisha is gone and she's not coming back, but that he still
has Christopher and Dinah Lee. Trucker says that he wasn't trying to replace
Trisha with Dinah Lee. Mrs. G says that she knows, she's seen the two of them
together, and it's obvious that they are in love. Trucker says that he
loves Dinah Lee so much, and it's not any more or any less than he loved
Trisha, it's just different. If only he could get Dinah Lee to understand
that. Mrs. G wishes she could help. Trucker says there is nothing they
can do, he just needs to give Dinah Lee some time. He just hopes it's
enough.

Burnell's

Ava and Dinah Lee are talking.
A: What do you mean you didn't tell Trucker you're pregnant?
DL: I knew what he was going to say.
A: What would he say but "I love you".
DL: Exactly.
A: Dinah Lee you're not making any sense to me.
DL: He was talking to Mrs. Gondek when I got there...
A: And...
DL: About how much he loved Trisha and if she were back he would have his
life again.
A: Now were those his exact words?
DL: It's what he meant.
A: No, that's what you think he meant.
DL: You know, if I didn't love him so much, if he wasn't everything to me,
then maybe I could be second best. I don't know.
A: You will never be second best.
DL: You weren't there, you didn't hear. The way he talked about her.
A: Dinah Lee! You know, I wish I were there because then I could set you
straight.
DL: No. I have to go away. I have to get away from here.
A: Where will you go?
DL: I don't know.
A: You're not talking about leaving town?
DL: I'm not staying here.
A: Listen, you are having Trucker's child and he has a right to know. I want
you to promise me that you won't go anywhere without telling him.

Clay's office at Alden Enterprises

Clay: So he is in Corinth.
Izzy: My dearest Isabelle, I'm back in Corinth where I belong. I wish you
were here. Love, Cabot
Deb: Oh, my God. Clay? Isabelle. I'm not even sure you're aware that I've
married Clay and that I'm your new daughter-in-law.
Izzy: Yes, I know who you are dear.
Deb: It's so nice to see you again.
Izzy: Have you not had any sign of your father?
Clay: Nothing. I thought he would come straight to the house, but he hasn't
shown up.
Deb: Do you have any idea where else he might have gone?
Izzy: We're looking into all possibilities.
Deb: What kind of condition was he in when he disappeared?
Clay: Deborah, I would like to discuss this privately with mother if you don't
mind.
Deb: Well, Clay, I'm just worried about him, that's all. He must have been in
terrible shape for the two of you to tell the world he was dead.
Izzy: Why your concern is heartwarming.
Clay: Yes, Deb is all compassion. This is a family matter.
Deb: Well I am Clay's wife.
Izzy: Well, would you like to handle this or shall I?
Clay: It's good to have you home, Mother, be my guest.
Izzy: I'm all too aware how you blackmailed my son into marrying you. If this
goes bad, which it may, there will be one good thing that will come out of
it. Clay's immediate divorce proceedings. Now, if you will leave
immediately, because, as Clay said, this is a family matter.

In the park

S: I don't know if I feel what you feel. I mean, how do you feel?
C: I asked you first.
S: Surprised.
C: Surprised by the way you feel, or the kiss.
S: No, by the kiss. How about you?
C: The kiss was surprising. Maybe the way I feel a little bit.
S: Meaning what?
C: Meaning that I'm......well....that was some kiss.
S: Yeah. But we're friends.
C: Best friends.
S: Right. You're the best friend that I have.
C: Especially for a guy.
S: You know my track record with men, especially with Alden men.
C: There's only been one.
S: One too many.
Cooper walks away.
S: No, wait, I didn't mean...
C: I understand, don't worry about it.
S: I didn't mean you.
C: Look, what happened was hormones obviously because we're young and you
know, this is what happens. We've been working closely together for a
long time now, and sparks are bound to fly. You're a classic rebound right
now and I'm just ...
S: What?
C: I'm trying to help you, you know.
S: Oh, I see. It was a pity kiss.
C: No, no, it wasn't. Believe me.
S: Well, you have Tess and everything.
C: Yes, I guess I do.
S: Are you guys really serious?

Commercials.

C: Well, it's not like Tess and I are planning a wedding or anything.
S: No, but you guys are close...
C: You could say that.
S: I can tell that she cares about you a lot.
C: She says that she loves me.
S: Wow. I didn't know it was that serious.
C: Neither did I, at first, actually. You know, she gave me fair warning.
S: Do you love her?
C: I've never pretended to be anything I wasn't with Tess, and she loves
me anyway, if you can believe it.
S: Yeah.
C: She's had a really hard time with guys, not just Dante, but...
S: And you don't want to hurt her.
C: How could I, after ....If I walk away from her now it would exactly what
Clay did to you, and then what would you think of me?
S: Well, I think she's very lucky to have you.
C: You know I was available for about 3 minutes if you had taken the
opportunity.
Steffi stares at him.
C: I'm kidding! I'm only kidding!
S: Three minutes, huh? You're slipping. In the old days there wasn't any
downtime at all. Anyway, um, if you're going to get into Clay's office
I guess you'd better go.
C: Right! Right, I've got to go. What are you going to do now?
S: Me? I'm going to walk around the park and watch the sunset, something like
that.
C: Okay.
S: Good luck.
C: Steffi, about the kiss.
S: What?
C: I hope you don't get the wrong idea.
S: No, no, you and Tess are happy and I think that's great. I think you deserve
to be happy for a change.
Exit Steffi.
C: That's great. Everything's great, if only I loved Tess.

Clay's office

Isabelle in a pink pantsuit is sitting in Clay's chair. Clay is pacing
the floor.
Clay: How could you let him get away from you?
Izzy: I don't know. I just hope he's all right.
Clay: I know you're worried about him mother, I'm worried about him too.
Izzy: Clay, when I thought he was going to die, it was just horrible. But
then I learned that he had hung on, but he was gone, I had lost him anyway.
He was just a shred of a human being.
Clay: That's why we had to keep everything a secret.
Izzy: But then finally he did come back to me. I mean every day, little by
little, he got better.
Clay: Physically.
Izzy: I was glad of that at least.
Clay: Even though the situation became more difficult?
Izzy: That he was harder to control, you mean.
Clay: Mother, we did what we had to do under the circumstances.
Izzy: When he was dying, in that hospital bed, the press just descended upon
him like vultures.
Clay: Descended, they had written his obituary.
Izzy: I wanted Cabot to die with some sort of dignity in his own home with
people that loved him that were around him. And Clay, that's why we took him
secretly to Palm Beach.
Clay: Only he didn't die.
Izzy: No, he didn't.
They pause and look at each other for a bit.
Izzy: Clay, how could we have known?
Clay: We couldn't have known, there's no possible way we could have known?
Izzy: Dead God, Clay, what have we done?
Clay: And it's only the beginning, I'm afraid. Has he been talking about the
past? Things that have to stay in the past?
Isabelle nods.

Burnell's

DL: I can't tell him about this baby.
Ava: Dinah Lee, it's Trucker's baby as well, he has a right to know.
DL: You know what will happen if I tell him.
Ava: Yes, something awful, like he might ask you to marry him.
DL: And I don't want him to think that I'm trapping him.
Ava: Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't he ask you to marry him before?
DL: Yes, but he was only trying to prove his love to me.
Ava: Isn't that usually the point?
DL: No, this was different. We had just gotten back from Rome. He had just
found out that Trisha wasn't really alive.
Ava: And he didn't mean it?
DL: No. I'm saying it was a reaction to everything that had happened.
Ava: Running away's not the answer.
DL: I'm not going away forever...
Ava: You'd better not be.
DL: I just need some time.
Ava: How long?
DL: Long enough to figure out what I'm going to do.
Ava: And then you'll talk to Trucker?
DL: Then I'll talk to Trucker.
Ava: Okay.
DL: All right.
Ava: So where are we going to go?
DL: We?
Ava: Yes, we, you think I'm going to let you go through this alone?
DL: What about Alex? The kids? Your job here?
Ava: This job, if you haven't noticed, as of today I'm not running much
around here. I think I'll let Deborah the Terrible run it by herself for
awhile. See how she can handle it.
DL: I wouldn't want to put you out.
Ava: Didn't I tell you? The penthouse is being painted, so you're actually
doing me a favor.
DL: So, Thelma and Louise are hitting the road again?
Ava: Yes!
They hug.
Ava: Didn't I tell you there'd be a sequel to that story? Only this time
there'll be a happy ending.
DL: There'd better be.
Ava: I'll go pack my bags and tell my husband he has to take care of the kids.
But, I want you to do me a favor first.
DL: What's that?
Ava: Say good-bye to Trucker.
DL: You think if I do he'll make me stay, don't you.
Ava: Moi?

Commercials.

Alden Enterprises

Isabelle and Clay come out of Clay's office. Deborah is pacing in the
hallway.
Clay: What, no glass to the door, Deborah?
Deb: I need to talk to both of you.
Clay: We're leaving.
Deb: Not...not yet. Now would you care to discuss things in the hallway,
or shall we go in your office?
Clay: Come inside.
They all head back in, Clay closes the door.
Deb: So, once again I would like to express my deepest concerns, Isabelle,
or shall I call you mother?
Izzy: Mrs. Alden will do fine.
Deb: Well, I am Mrs. Clay Alden and I will not be ignored and passed by
like I am some...some...some invisible nobody! Don't think I don't remember
that from the past.
Clay: Get to the point, Deborah.
Deb: My point is that you can't shut me out. If I told what I know, you would
be ruined.
Izzy: As would you be also, my dear.
Deb: Oh, Isabelle, I have so much less to lose. I didn't lock my father, or
my husband away somewhere and tell the rest of the world he was dead.
Clay: You assume we did that because he was old and feeble.
Deb: Wasn't he?
Clay: No, you would do that, Deborah, I wouldn't. My mother wouldn't.
Deb: Then why did you?
Silence.
Deb: Ah ha! I see, then you're protecting something else, besides Cabot
that is.
Izzy: Hmm, perhaps I've been wrong about you.
Deb: What do you mean Isabelle?
Izzy: Well there are certainly many aspects that I never realized.
Deb: Well, thank you so much.
Izzy: Why don't you arrange for this evening, a family gathering, a
homecoming for me.
Deb: I would be more than happy to do that. So, if you'll excuse me, I'll
start on that right now.
Izzy: Perhaps you've forgotten something.
Deb: Oh, what's that?
Izzy: My bag.
Deborah looks horrified. Clay and Isabelle head out.
Clay: Deborah....
Deb: I'm coming.
They leave with Deborah carrying the luggage.
Cooper is lurking in the hall.
Coop: What is Aunt Isabelle doing home?
Cooper goes into Clay's office, locks the door, kicks the file drawer open,
and takes pictures of the papers in the file folder. (He thanks Steffi for
the way to open the drawer. :-))

In the park

Steffi comes back to the gazebo. She remembers The Kiss.
Cabot: Thinking about that boy, aren't you?
It's Cabot, he's standing behind her.
Steff: What boy?
Cabot: The one who kissed you.
Steff: Him? Oh, no. We're just friends and everything.
Cabot: Well, that kiss looked like a lot more than just friends if you ask me.
Steff: Were you spying on us?
Cabot: I can't help noticing two people who are in love.
Steff: Love! Oh, no. No!
Cabot: Oh, you like him a lot, and he feels the same about you.
Steff: Who do you think you are anyway?
Cabot: You don't remember me?
Steff: Of course I remember you, you're Buddy.
Cabot: You remembered my name!
Steff: You're the guy from the diner.
Cabot: Well, I'm more than that. Much more.

The Tides

Ava is watching through the window as Dinah Lee and Trucker talk.
DL: So, Kate said that she would manage Pins for a while, but could you check
on her?
T: Sure, it's no problem. But, Dinah Lee...
DL: What?
T: Why are you leaving?
DL: I told you, I need a vacation.
T: Why, really?
DL: I want to see my sister in New York.
T: You're upset about something.
DL: No, I'm not upset, I'm fine. It's Hannah that I'm worried about. She's
going through a really hard time right now, so I should be there.
T: How long are you going to be gone?
DL: I don't know, it could be awhile. I just thought that I should tell you.
T: Why? What?
Ava: Come on, Dinah Lee, tell him you're pregnant?
T: What's wrong, tell me, what's going on.
Dinah Lee sees pictures of Trisha and Christopher on the mantle.
DL: I...
T: What?
DL: I just didn't want to leave without saying good-bye.
They kiss. A lot.
Ava: Kissing, oh, that's a good sign.
Dinah Lee pulls away.
DL: I've got to go. Trucker...
T: Are you sure you're all right?
DL: I'm fine. I'm fine.
Dinah Lee heads out. Trucker watches after her and wonders.
