Welcome to the Thursday, July 21, 1994 Loving Update.

Hunter & Wilder

Steffi is talking with Jeremy. Asking if he has any connections in Paris.
Steffi tells Jeremy that she is moving to Paris. Jeremy wants to know why
she's moving there when everything is going so well for her here. Steffi
says that she can't stay here any more. Jeremy wants to know what she's
running away from.

Tess and Cooper come into the lobby of H&W. Tess says that Cooper never
answered her question. Cooper says the answer is yes, it was as good for
me as it was for you. Tess says, not that, do you think I should help
Steffi get out of town, or not? Cooper wants to know why it matters what
he thinks. He's looking around the offices. Tess says that it doesn't look
like Steffi is here. Tess says that Cooper followed her back to H&W to see
Steffi. Cooper says you're not supposed to be the jealous type. I just
spent the afternoon with you. I want to be with *you*. That is why I'm
here. They kiss.

Video store

We see all of the soap videos. Someone selects a GH video and an AMC video.
Dinah Lee comes in. Dressed in a very low cut, very short red dress, hair
curled. She hands in a couple of videos. She's glancing around the store
when the store clerk, reading a video says, "Reality Bites", and Dinah Lee
replies, "tell me about it." She and Trucker had reserved it. It's in
and he held a copy for them. She says that she doesn't want it now. Buck
comes in.

Bike shop

Trucker is working on a bike. Curtis comes in.....hello, Trucker. Trucker
wants to know what Curtis wants. Curtis says that he keeps waiting for
Trucker to come by his house and tear him apart. Trucker says that no
apologies will work. Curtis says that's not why he came by, he just
wanted to save Trucker a little trouble.....why don't you just take your
best shot and get it over with? Trucker says that maybe it would be over
for Curtis, but it wouldn't be over for me. They glare at each other.

Opening Credits.

Bike shop

C: I did a lousy thing to you Trucker, I admit that.
T: Not just to me.
C: No, to my family, to Trisha's friends, everybody. I made them think
Trisha might be alive.
T: You hurt Dinah Lee. Too.
C: I just wanted her back so much. I saw myself losing her. Losing her
to you and after what I went through with Dante in that cage, I needed
her then more than ever.
T: Everything's about you, isn't it Curtis. Everything is about your
needs and your wants, never about anyone else or their lives.
C: Look, I was wrong. I was wrong. I admit that!
T: So what's supposed to happen next, huh? Everybody's just supposed to say
forget it?
C: I made a mistake, I'd like to make up for it.
T: Well you can't.
C: Am I supposed to be punished for the rest of my life?
T: You'd probably want that, right?
C: What's that supposed to mean?
T: You think that by somehow paying for this it would wipe the slate clean?
C: It's something.
T: It's nothing.
C: So you're saying you're never going to forgive me?
T: How could you do that to your sister? I just want to ask you that.
How could you do that to Trisha's memory?
C: I told you what I was going through....
T: And to Dinah Lee, who you say you love.
C: I do love her.
T: That's bull.
C: Don't think you can tell me what I feel. I will always love Dinah Lee.
T: Just get the hell out of my sight, Curtis.
C: If you love Dinah Lee so much, how could you just let her walk out of
your life?

Buck: Dinah Lee, what's wrong?
DL: Nothing.
Buck: Come on, you can talk to me.
DL: I was just thinking about Trucker.
Buck: I never would have guessed.
DL: We used to come here a lot together, rent movies. I was one of our
favorite things to do.
Buck: He told me.
DL: Well, I shouldn't have come here. I guess it's too soon.
Buck: Why don't you pack up and leave town?
DL: What?
Buck: If you're trying to avoid Trucker. Everywhere you turn there's
going to be something to remind you.
DL: It's just very hard.
Buck: I know.
DL: Does it get any easier?
Buck: It gets a little easier.
DL: I was just so sure I did the right thing, breaking up with him.
Buck: Now you're not so sure.
DL: What else was I supposed to do? He called out Trisha's name while
he was sleeping after we had....been together.
Buck: Dinah Lee, you and Trucker love each other.
DL: Sometimes love's not enough, Buck.
Buck: Sometimes it's not. You tried to make things work, but you
couldn't. It's time to move on.
DL: What if I can't?
Buck: You've got to make up your mind.
DL: It's different this time. In the past it was always Clay or Curtis,
someone who was hurting me. This time it's me doing the hurting.
Buck: What are you going to do?
DL: I don't know.

Hunter & Wilder

S: Jeremy, I'm not running away.
J: Then why are you leaving?
S: There is nothing left for me here.
J: How can you say that? This is where you grew up. Your past is here.
S: I don't have a future here. Not any more anyway.
J: Did you really thing that you and Clay had any kind of future?
S: I loved him.
J: Sweetheart, he married your mom.
S: I know. Why does everyone keep reminding me? I know!
J: Then why are you giving up now? Why?
S: Because, I....I can't be with him, and it's not because of my mother,
it's because of me. Because he didn't love me. It took a sledgehammer to
drive that through my head, but at least I know it now.
J: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
S: It's not Clay's fault.
J: How can you say that?
S: Why should he love me if no one else does?
J: Steff, it's not your fault.
S: You'd think that after I keep screwing up I'd realize.
J: Why don't you have dinner with me tonight?
S: You're trying to make me feel better.
J: Yes.....but not in the way you think. I'm going to try to talk you out
of leaving town.
S: Oh, I see, another Professor Hunter lecture, I see.
J: Hey, it's a free meal, and no quiz.
S: Ummm, I don't think so.
J: Let me try a different approach. Gwyneth is out of town on business in
New York. I've worked my fingers to the bone. I'm tired. I want to eat,
and I don't want to eat alone. Please help me.
She smiles.
S: I'm really going to miss you.
J: No you won't, be here at six.
Jeremy leaves.

Tess bit Cooper's lip.
T: Let me get this straight, you're not the least bit concerned that Steffi
might be leaving?
C: Well, it's nice having an ally at the mansion, and I can use all the
friends I can get, you know that...
T: What if there was more to it than that?
C: There's not.
T: I'm not so sure that Steffi thinks so.
C: What do you mean?
T: I think she might be interested in you.
C: No, no no no no. She's in love with Clay, trust me, I know that much.
T: Bothers you that much?
C: Yes, it does, because it's Clay. Look what he's done this time....look
what he's done to Steffi.
T: Yup, he's really done it this time.
C: How is she? Do you think she's going to be okay? Do you think she can
handle it?
T: She's trying. That's why she wants to leave town.
C: So she's really leaving then?
T: Yes, I think so.
C: Clay......damn it.   {Cooper hits the counter with his fist.}
T: Cooper, is there something you're not telling me?
Steffi comes out of Jeremy's office.
S: Cooper, hi, I didn't know you were here.
T: He came with me. I'm going to go to my office........Cooper, are you
coming?
C: Steffi, are you all right?
Tess goes to her office. Steffi and Cooper gaze at each other.

Cooper: So what happened between you and Clay.
Steffi: He was just using me.
C: How do you know?
S: He told me.
C: He admitted it?
S: Yes.
C: Oh, man.
S: Go ahead, say what you're inevitably going to say.
C: Say what?
S: I told you so. Go on, say it, I know you're dying to.
C: No. I'm sorry. I wish I had been wrong about everything.
S: I used to wonder why Clay would never tell me that he loved me. And I
thought it was because he was just trying to protect me and he didn't want
me to get hurt, but he never really cared. Well, I don't care either.
C: Steffi, don't. Don't go. Just don't leave town.
S: Why should I stay?
C: There's plenty of reasons.
S: Give me one good one.
Cooper remains silent, though thoughtful.

DL: You warned me about hurting your brother.
Buck: That was a long time ago, when Curtis was still in the picture.
DL: But I'm still doing it anyway.
Buck: Sounds like Trucker's hurt you.
DL: He can't help the way that he feels.
Buck: Neither can you.
DL: If it was anybody but Trisha.
Buck: But it is.
DL: But that's what makes it so hard. I loved Trucker once before, and
I lost him to Trisha. And I can't go through that again.
Buck: You won't.
DL: I've tried to be strong, I've tried to tell myself that there is
room in his life for both Trisha and me.
Buck: You're talking about her like she's still around.
DL: She is.
Buck: Trucker's accepted that she's gone.
DL: I haven't. Don't you see, it's not Trucker who can't let go of
this, it's me.
Buck: Dinah Lee, come on. You're a lot stronger than you think.
DL: No, Buck, I'm not.
Buck: Most people blame somebody or someone else for their problems, but
it takes a lot of guts to own up to it yourself. Believe me, I know.

Bike shop

T: Hey, I didn't just let her walk out of my life.
C: Oh, come on, it's all over town. Everyone knows that you split up.
T: It's because of you.
C: Because of me?
T: Because of the fears and doubts that you put into her head.
C: They were already there.
T: No, you used them. You knew how special your sister was. How much I
loved Trisha. We had a great life together, we had a son. That would be
a threat to anyone, especially Dinah Lee.
C: I didn't mean to hurt her...
T: Because you weren't even thinking about her. You're just like the
rest of your family, you mow down anything in front of you, anything that
gets in your way, as long as you get what you want.
C: Yeah, well, at least if Dinah Lee was with me she wouldn't have to
share me with anyone, she'd have only me.
Trucker pushes Curtis. He lets go of Curtis and kicks down the fence and
the bike he was working on.
T: Are you finished? Isn't it enough that you broke us up?
C: If your love was strong enough, nothing could have come between you.
T: Just steer clear of Dinah Lee from now on, and you can do the same for
me and Christopher. And Trisha's memory.
C: What are you talking about?
T: You heard me. You're not friend or family to me any more. You're nothing
to me now. Get the hell out of here.
They glare some more.

Tess is shooting darts. She's really bad. Jeremy is watching.
She's pacing and looking out the window toward the lobby.
J: Well, what do you think?
T: About what?
J: About the crazy critters campaign.
T: They're cute.
J: Does it appeal to girls as well as boys?
T: Sure.
J: In the focus book, girls liked toys as well as boys, but they don't
buy them. Or their parents don't buy them. Now that's a thought.
T: What?
J: It should be something that appeals to the parents as well. Nice touch,
no?
T: Love it.
J: Tess.
T: What?
J: You're wearing my carpet out.
T: I'm sorry.
J: Then go do it in your office.
T: I've already worn the carpet in my office down to a nub.
J: All right, what's going on?
T: What could they be talking about for so long?
J: Probably about Steffi wanting to leave town.
T: Well, that's Cooper's problem, isn't it?
J: Why is that bothering you so much?
T: It's not.
J: Then go and join them and leave me in peace, I have work to do.
T: I shouldn't have to you see.
J: Steffi's upset, she looks up to you, you should be helping her.
T: That's your thing, you do it.
J: Tess, has something happened?
T: What do you mean?
J: You used to be so supportive of Steffi.
T: Well, nothing against Steffi, nothing personal, it's just that things
have changed.

S: Okay, Cooper, tell me why I should stay.
C: Because.....I don't want you to miss finding out about Clay's secret.
S: I don't care about that any more.
C: But we're so close.
S: *sigh* Do you hear me? I don't want anything to do with it, as far as
I'm concerned, the Alden's can just rot in hell.
Tess walks up with Jeremy behind her.
T: Hey, I didn't know you were still here, and I thought you left for
sure (to Cooper), but I'm glad you didn't because I've got to talk to you
about something in my office.
J: Excuse me, before you do that, Cooper, my storyboards need to be hanged
(Ed. note: He really did say hanged, not hung.), could you help me for
a bit?
Cooper asks Steffi to stick around. He leaves to go help Jeremy.
T: Hey, I've got a few plans to set you up in Paris.
S: Good.
T: So, you still want to go?
S: Nobody's given me any reason not to.
T: I'm really sorry about what you're going through with Clay.
S: Well, Cooper warned me about him....I guess I should have listened.
T: Yeah, well, I know it's really hard to hear it. When you fall for
somebody you really want it to work.. I know that's how I feel about
Cooper.
S: So you two are really close?
T: As close as two people can be.
S: You're really lucky.
T: And you're going to be lucky too. You're going to find somebody who will
be just as good to you as Cooper is to me.

Dinah Lee is cleaning up. She goes behind the bar. Curtis comes in.
C: Dinah Lee.
DL: Curtis, not now.
C: I've been looking all over for you.
DL: Didn't I tell you I didn't want to see you any more?
C: Yes, but I just had to tell you
DL: What do you want from me now?
C: Friendship.
DL: What?
C: I heard about you and Trucker.
DL: Are you happy?
C: No.
DL: I thought this was what you wanted. You set it up.
C: I could never be happy unless you are. I want to help.
DL: I don't think so.
C: No strings attached.
DL: Well, I wish that I could believe that Curtis...
C: I've come a long way in therapy.
DL: So, you're still going.
C: I've discovered that there's all different kinds of love. One of the
most valuable is the love between friends.
DL: And you think that you and I will be friends?
C: I'd like to give it a try.
DL: Well I don't think that I can, Curtis.
C: I know that i have been extremely selfish. I don't think about anyone
else. I don't think about the things that I do and how they affect other
people. I'd like to get past that.
DL: If you can.
C: It's not going to be easy. I've taken it all my life. I'd like to give
something back now.
DL: That's really nice, Curtis, but....
C: Dinah Lee, you've done so much for me. You stood by me through that
whole Dante ordeal, and you never asked for anything in return. I'd like
to do the same for you. Will you let me?
She stares at him.

Bike shop

Buck comes in calling for Trucker, talking about someone he ran into, and
wonders what happened in the shop.
T: It was either kick the bike or Curtis.
B: He was here? Why?
T: Looking for a fight.
B: He's lucky you didn't give him one.
T: So, who'd you see?
B: Dinah Lee.
T: How's she doing? Is she all right?
B: No, she's not.
T: I wish I could help her.
B: I can't belive it's really over for you two.
T: I'll always love that girl, Buck. I just can't hurt her any more.
B: Even if she's the one hurting herself?
T: Listen, you've got to do me a favor, can you?
B: Sure.
T: Be there for her in my place.
B: Why? She's go Ava and her sister.
T: It's not the same. She needs someone who'll look out for her.
B: No, man, it should be you.
T: It can't be me now. It's got to be you, Buck.
Buck stares at Trucker.
