Welcome to the Thursday, July 14, 1994 Loving Update. My first update since
June 23!!! It's still the night of July 4th in Corinth.

Beldon Pond

Janie stops on the dock and tries to catch her breath. Frankie comes up
and makes a grab for her. She runs and stops short as she almost falls
in the pond. Frankie catches her.

The Alden Mansion

The guests are arriving. Jeremy and Gwyn discuss coping with the new Mrs.
Alden. Tess arrives, Cooper is nowhere in sight. Deborah walks in with
the board member (the guy that put the moves on Steffi, whose name I can't
remember) and his wife (played by Susan Pratt). Alex, Ava, and the kids
arrive. Sandy and Alexis are crowding around Deborah wondering about the
horsies. Kate arrives.

Upstairs, Cooper is waiting for Clay in the study. Clay arrives. He's
not happy. Cooper tells Clay that tonight might be the end of his husbandly
duties. Clay wants to know how. Cooper says that the good news is that
Deborah won't be able to hold Clay's secret over his head any more. The
bad news, Cooper knows what it is, and he totally intends to use it.

Opening Credits.

The Alden Mansion

Clay says he doesn't have time for games. Cooper says it took him some
time to put all the pieces together, but he figured it out. There was
someone in your life. Somebody who depended on you.
Clay: That could be any one of a number...
Coop: I don't know how Deborah found out about it. I met this girl. I
spoke to her. She's been to this house in fact.
Clay: What girl?
Coop: Your illegitimate daughter.
Clay laughs.
Coop: I'm glad you find it so amusing.
Clay: How much did this information cost you?
Cooper is silent.
Clay: Oh, that much. Cooper, don't you know, wealthy men have been
dealing with phony paternity suits for ages.
Coop: Are you sure this one's phony?
Clay: A wise man knows his own child. [big pause] Are you sure Tyler's
yours?
Clay exits. Cooper is none to pleased.

Downstairs Ally is apologizing to Deborah for telling the kids about the
stables. Ava says the kids thought they were going to get real pony rides.
Ava explains to Sandy and Alexis that the horses are not that kind of
horses. Ally introduces Kate. Ava introduces Sandy and Alexis. Kate
gives 2 pies to Deborah, who has no clue what to do with them. She calls
for Lenox and then excuses herself. Stacey arrives and says hello to
Alex, Ava, and crew. Curtis comes over to Stacey. She's kidless. She's
a woman alone, and on the prowl, as usual. She asks if Curtis is
recovering from the beating she gave him. He says the outward bruises
are healing. She asks about the therapist. He says it was fine, nothing
dramatic. Stacey says that it was dramatic enough that he went. She urges
him to stick with it. He is finding the evening strange. A year ago he
was standing in the same spot marrying Dinah Lee. We pan to Tess and
Jeremy. Tess is fretting about the missing Cooper. She doesn't
understand why he invited her if he wasn't going to be there. Pan to Kate
and Ally talking about all the luxury at the Mansion. Ally wishes that
Casey was there. Kate wants to know where he is, no one works on the
fourth of July. Ally says he's working on the house -- he wants to get it
ready. They talk about Casey working so hard. Ally says he's doing it
for her, so it's hard to ask him to ease up. Clay arrives. Deborah is
frantically happy to see him. He grabs Gwyn and thanks her for coming to
help him through the festivities. She apologizes for the basket case she
was the day before. They talk about Curtis. Gwyn tells Clay that Dinah
Lee and Trucker are having problems but not to tell Curtis since that
might be the one thing that puts him over the edge. Deborah walks up and
commandeers Clay's arm. She tells Gwyn that she hopes that Clay is
telling her how happy they are that she's there.
Gwyn says that Clay is telling her that he is happy that she's there.
Deborah is hoping that they'll be friends. Gwyn says, "Look. Wait. I
came here tonight to be with my family, okay. I appreciate your
hospitality but that doesn't quite include you. Now will you please
excuse me." Gwyn walks off. Deborah isn't happy. She wants to know
where Clay's been. He tells he's been getting happy news, but that he
needs cigars before he can share it. It seems I have a new daughter.
Deborah is stunned into silence!

Beldon Pond

Frankie gives Janie a rough time about the water. Seems she can't swim.
Frankie: A tough girl like you can't swim, huh?
Janie: No, but I can run.
She makes a run for it, but Frankie catches her.
J: Let go of me!
F: Not until I get some answers from you.
J: I'm not telling you anything.
F: What's with you and Cooper?
J: That's my business.
F: You took money off him. Now that's police business.
J: So, it's none of yours. And if you really want to know, I wasn't taking
money off him, I was giving him money.
F: He's a real charity case, huh?
J: Not for him. For Gwyn Alden.
F: She's starving too.
J: To pay her back for what I did to her car.
Frankie finds the money in her purse.
F: What have we here?
J: Looks like money to me.
F: I can see that for myself.
J: Enough that we can have a real fun fourth of July.
F: What's your idea of fun, grand theft auto?
J: Why don't you come with me and find out? [Said somewhat provocatively.]

Commercials. Including one with Hannah Mayberry. :-)

Beldon Pond

F: You think you're real cool don't you.
J: I get along.
F: Yup, I see that. So how come you don't just take off?
J: I take off when I feel like it. Just don't mess with me, okay.
F: Somebody did. That's where you get all this attitude...
J: Somebody did what?
F: Beat up on you maybe?
J: Nobody beats up on me. You try it and see what you get.
F: I saw your records at the hospital in Boston.
J: What?
F: After what you did to my mother I wasn't about to trust you.
J: Didn't anybody ever tell you that was illegal?
F: And you know all about legal, don't you. So do the cops in Boston.
J: Why don't you just turn me in, hot shot?
F: No. I have a better idea, follow me.
Frankie takes her arm and drags her off.

The Alden Mansion

Cooper is lying on the couch in the den pouting. In walks Steffi looking
wonderful in a red dress -- strange hair, but nice dress, openly laced up
the back.
S: Where've you been all day?
C: On a wild goose chase.
S: Oh. Tyra didn't tell you anything did she.
C: Oh, she was willing to talk, for a thousand dollars.
S: Oh.
C: So I met her at Beldon Pond, and in the immortal words of Steve Miller,
she took the money and ran.
S: A thousand bucks?
C: You know, something tells me she's not going to be coming by for cocktails
tonight, but I didn't act like a complete idiot. I took 2 100 dollar bills
and wrapped them around 8 ones.
S: All right, all right. Do you think this is a scam, or do you think she
really has somthing on Clay and my mother?
C: Steffi, let's just stop it, because I feel idiotic enough as it is.
S: Don't say that. You were wonderful, and you did everything that you
could.
C: I screwed it up royally.
S: So, it's a minor set back. So we revert to plan A. You get close to my
mother and I'll stay close to Clay, and we're going to find out the truth.
You'll see.
They smile at each other.

Back downstairs at the party, Clay is talking with Deborah.
Clay: Well, I laughed in Cooper's face, but I wasn't feeling very amused.
Deb: I assume you don't have an illegitimate daughter.
C: Why not? It would be the icing on the cake.
D: It's just Cooper. He's just trying to, just trying to rattle you. He
doesn't know anything and he's not going to find anything out.

Tess tells Jeremy she's leaving. It was a big mistake for her to come here.
One of many that she's made lately. Jeremy wants to know what mistakes
she's made.
T: Telling Cooper that I'm in love with him.
J: What's wrong with that?
T: What's wrong? Telling the truth scares people.
J: Not if they care.
He looks across to Gwyn.

Gwyn is talking to Curtis. She understands what he's been going through,
what he's still going through.
G: Look, your father and I love you. Despite everything, we are still
here when you need us.
C: Thank you.
G: I wish we could do more for you.
C: I just have to get on with my life. You know what the worst part of it
is? I didn't just lose my wife, I lost my two best friends.
Gwyn hugs him.

Ava and Alex are standing looking over a balcony. Alex is worried that
Ava is pushing it too much. She says she's okay. Things have just been
a bit hectic since Leo decided to stay in Rome with Shana. Alex says that
she should let the new owner worry about that. Ava says there is no new
owner, Burnell's is back on the market. She is thinking about buying it.
Alex wonders where she's going to get the money. She says just watch her,
she'll find it. He thinks she should just calm down and take care of
herself. As Ava looks over the balcony, she flashes on Harry and herself
looking over a different balcony. Alex wants to know what's wrong with
her.

Commercials.

Kate, Sandy, and Alexis are leaving. Stacey follows them. Curtis follows
her. Clay goes for a stronger drink. Deborah wants Clay to relax, Cooper
and Steffi don't know anything. Clay says that Steffi said that she didn't
get into the safe deposit box, but they don't know that for sure. Deborah
is sure. She looked. Everything was there, including the envelope
>from The Cradle Foundation. The seal was intact. Clay says it doesn't
take a genius to figure out what The Cradle Foundation does. Clay walks
off. Deborah follows. Cooper and Steffi are plotting. Steffi thinks this
would be a perfect time to move in. Cooper spikes a glass of punch for
Deborah with 200 proof grain alcohol. He gives it to Lenox to take to
Deborah. (If I don't miss my guess, Lenox enjoyed delivering *that* drink.)
She thanks Lenox and takes a good drink from the glass. Cooper waves to
her. Ally and Tyler come up to Cooper. He is glad to see them. He then
notices Tess. He goes over to Tess and really lays some lips on her.
Ally and Steffi look on. Ally didn't think they were seeing each other
any more. Steffi asks why. Ally says that he hasn't been coming by the
house any more.
Steffi: He's been busy.
Ally: So I've heard.
S: What's that supposed to mean?
A: Nothing like a night in jail to bring two people close together, huh?
S: Oh, oh, oh. Believe me. I am hardly Cooper's idea of Miss Right.
Tess tells Cooper that she felt abandoned. He reassures her that he wasn't
abandoning her, it's just been this whole family thing. He asks for
forgiveness. She gives it. He compliments her jacket. Makes a funny
comment and then giggles. Tess doesn't follow the humor and asks him to
share. He says he wasn't laughing at her, it was just something that
Steffi said that reminded him...
Tess: Thinking about another woman?

Alex: Ava, I said are you all right?
Ava: I just had another flashback of Harry. We were standing at a
balcony just like this. It happened to me once before, Alex. We were
looking down at a family....I think.
Alex: Whose? Ours?
Ava: No. The Aldens!
Alex: The Aldens.
Ava: Yes! That's when Harry said that someone was coming home.

Frankie drags Janie into the middle of the party. Gwyn comes over to find
out what's going on. Frankie explains that Janie's name isn't Tyra. He
introduces Janie to Gwyn as: Janie, the lady that stole your car.

CLIFFHANGER!!!
