LOVING Update for Friday, May 5:

STORYLINE: FRANKIE'S PREROGATIVE
 (location: Wilder Ad Agency)
* Tess and Jacob are watching Brianna's video. Jacob asks what she
thinks of the music. Tess says it is fine; it will work OK. Jacob
tells her not to knock his socks off. Tess asks what his problem is.
Jacob forces a smile, which makes Tess laugh.
Frankie enters and says he wants to talk to Jacob.
* Jacob says he is busy. Frankie tells him to get un-busy. Tess says
this is *her* agency, and they both work for her, and they both have a
lot of work to do. She says the "gym spot" needs a lot of editing; she
is going into the other room to get her notes, and when she comes back,
they'll all work on that. She stomps out.
Frankie asks what he was doing with his mother last night. Jacob says
they had a little talk, that's all, and why is he tailing his mother?
Frankie says he had to drop off a video. Jacob tells Frankie to talk
to Angie about it. "I already did that." Frankie says Jacob told him
that he had a hot date. No, says Jacob, *you* called it a date, and
what I do on my own time is my business. "I don't think so, when it
involves my mother, it's my business."
Tess re-enters, saying this is *her* business, and let's get to work on
the video. Frankie says no, as long as Jacob is in on this, he is out.
Frankie storms out. Tess looks (rather accusingly) at Jacob.
* Jacob wants to finish their discussion. Frankie has heard enough.
Jacob says nothing happened between Angie and him. Frankie asks what
she was doing there then, making a house call? Jacob says he is just
trying to be his friend. Frankie says he is too good of a friend with
his mother. Jacob says he must not have much faith in her. Frankie
tries to respond, but Jacob interrupts him, saying that he doesn't like
his pseudo-ghetto attitude. "Your mother is a kind, decent, generous
woman. She came to my room and we talked, that's *it*. Now, if you
have a need to believe something else, then that is your prerogative,
my little brother." Jacob walks off.

STORYLINE: STACEY HIRES A SECRETARY?
 (location: Rodeo Bar)
* Buck is putting together a model of his house. Stacey enters and says
she likes his house, but she had hoped it would be bigger. Buck says
she wanted it cozy... Angie enters and comments that Buck must have
some hidden talents. Buck says he was inspired. Stacey asks if he
might be inspired to get them some sandwiches. He takes their orders
 and leaves to get them.
Angie observes that Stacey doesn't seem happy. Stacey says they are
there to discuss Angie's problems. Angie says misery loves company,
 so let's have it.
* Stacey tells Angie about Buck's credit problems, and how she helped
him get the loan. She says that if he finds out, he won't speak to
her again. Angie asks why. Because he wanted to do this *himself*.
Buck brings the sandwiches. "Eat up, or as they say in France, Bone
 Appetite." Everyone laughs. He leaves.
Angie asks if there is any way he could find out. Stacey says she swore
the banker to secrecy, but she still feels guilty -- maybe it's that
Irish-Catholic thing. Angie says that you don't have to be Irish or
Catholic: "it hits us all." Stacey says it is Angie's turn. She tells
Stacey that she went to see Jacob. Why? Because I am sick of it.
Stacey asks if she found out what's up. "Yeah." He said he is in love
with her, but she said she never wants to see his face again. Stacey
asks why she feels guilty. "Because I can't stop thinking about him."
* Angie says she dreamed about Jacob last night. Ever since the day he
came to her office, something, I don't know what, happened. Stacey
asks if she talked to Charles about it. Yes. Was that smart? Well,
I had to, he cornered me. How'd he take it? Well, after I got him
down from the ceiling. She told him it had nothing to do with them.
Stacey asks if he believed it. Not at all. She asks if Angie believes
it. "Of course...I..." Stacey says she is sure she and Charles will
work it out, and she might consider postponing the wedding so they can
work it out. No problem, says Angie, Charles has no intention of
getting married until he finds out what Jacob is up to. Stacey looks
at the door and says, "A perfect end to a perfect day." Angie looks
at the door and sees Tess.
Tess walks to the bar and asks Buck for a shot of Tequila. On second
thought, make it a double. Buck says it is kinda early, one of those
days? No, one of those *years*. Buck pours. "Enjoy."
Tess stares at Stacey. Stacey stares right back.
* Tess asks Buck how he could turn down thousands of dollars for just
a couple of hours' work. Buck says he won't be a hunk of flesh in a
sodee-pop commercial. She says it must be nice to be financially
secure. He laughs. She says he has a good business and is building
a house. He says he borrowed money for the house. From whom? From
First National Bank of Corinth! "You're kidding me. Huh. Well,
you must have better credit than I do." Buck laughs again. Tess asks
how he got -- oh, of course, Stacey. "What about her?" Tess says she
must have great credit. Buck says he got this loan *totally* on his
own. Tess says he must have a way with the loan officer; she tried to
get a $10,000 loan and she was practically thrown out on the street.
She asks for a quarter. He gives her one. She suggests that he be
more careful with his money; the house isn't built yet! She leaves
 to make a phone call.
Angie suggests that Stacey just tell him that she helped. Stacey says
that if he finds out, he'll be devastated. "Are you going to tell
Charles the truth about Jacob?" "Jacob who?"
Tess calls Mr. Touhy at the bank, posing as Stacey's secretary. She
tells him to send the loan papers for Mr. Houston's loan over to Mr.
Houston. "Yes, I'm sure. I *am* her personal secretary." She has
him send them to The Rodeo Bar, c/o Mr. Buck Houston. She thanks
 him and hangs up, snickering.

STORYLINE: TODAY'S ACTION FROM THE COP SHOP
(starting location: Police station, interrogation room)
* Jerry (the kid) asks how much longer they are going to sit there.
Alex says they'll sit there until he talks. Jerry says he won't talk
without his lawyer there. Alex says his offer expires when the lawyer
arrives. Jerry stands up and gets in Alex's face, saying that he has
him on possession -- maybe. Alex shoves him back into the chair and
says that he has him on *murder*. Jerry asks who. Jenny Davis, the
girl who OD'd. "Don't you read the papers?" "Just the comics." Alex
accuses him of giving her the stuff. He denies it. Alex tells him to
start praying for a lenient jury. Jerry says he's going to juvenile
court -- no jury. Alex stomps out.
Outside, Alex sees Charles and asks if he knows him. "I know, you work
here, right?" Charles tells him to cut it out; he has a lot on his
mind. Alex says he knows what is on Charles' mind: Jacob Johnson,
right? He asks when Charles is going to get over this -- he's striking
out. Charles says, not this time -- he's on first base after a line
 drive to center field.
* Alex asks if he has hard evidence against Jacob. Charles tells him
about the shrink at Quantico and the memory he had of the explosion.
He is sure that the car exploding is connected to Johnson in some way.
Alex says he is obsessed: every time he comes in, he has something new
on Johnson, but he ends up with a zero every time. He asks for his
help with the drug case and for him to get his mind off Johnson for a
few minutes. Charles agrees. Alex tells Charles about having Casey
inside; he doesn't like it, but it is getting them somewhere.
Det. Graham enters and tells Alex to let Jerry go.
* Jerry walks toward the door, gloating at Alex that he said he'd be
there for less than 1/2 hour. Alex tells him to shut up. Jerry's
lawyer says they are going to press charges for detaining a minor
without a lawyer or guardian present. Alex says he is shaking...get
out of here. "See ya in court." Jerry and his lawyer leave.
Alex asks Graham why he let him go. Because they only had him on
possession, and they were going to throw the search out. Alex says
he had him on suspicion of murder. "Oh, give me a break." Alex
says he could have given Jenny the stuff. "And I could have won the
Nobel Prize." Alex says that if Jerry didn't, he might know who did.
"Might have, could have? Listen to yourself, Alex." "*You* listen to
yourself!" Graham tells Alex to be careful. Alex apologizes. After a
moment, Graham says he got Alex the money he asked for. Alex thanks
him. Graham wants the name of the informant. Alex says he can't do
that. Graham says he can't give any assistance, then. Alex says he
promised the guy he wouldn't. Graham thinks about that, and says he
will see what he can do, but this guy had better come through for them,
"unless you want to spend the rest of his career as a meter maid."
Graham leaves. Alex leaves the opposite direction.
Charles enters. The desk clerk says there is a phone call for him. He
asks him to take a message. The clerk says it is an urgent call from
 Quantico. Charles takes the call..."Carolyn?"
* She asks him to meet her tonight, at The Ledge, a small Inn just
outside Corinth. He asks what is going on. She says she might have
something helpful about Jacob Johnson. "What'd you find?" "Exit 12,
The Ledge." She hangs up on him. She makes another call: "Yeah,
everything's all set for tonight. You know where Johnson will be, and
Harrison will be at the Inn. And this time, just finish the job."

STORYLINE: MIGHTY CASEY HAS STRUCK OUT?
 (starting location: Casey's apartment)
* Casey is making some of the cocaine into a line with a razor blade.
Suddenly, there's banging on the door. "Police! Open up!"
* Casey starts to put the drugs away frantically, then recognizes the
voice as Danny's. He opens the door. Danny tells him to lighten up.
Casey is upset: he has enough stuff to put him away for twenty years.
Danny says to think of this as a fire drill. Casey says he flushed
3/4 kilo down the toilet. Danny is *mad*. "You son of a..." Casey
asks (rather smugly) where *his* sense of humor went. Danny informs
Casey that Jerry was just busted. Casey says that is too bad. Danny
notes that he isn't too upset about it; Casey says they didn't hit it
off. Danny reminds Casey that they were partners. "Not by choice."
Danny says he was busted with 1/4 kilo of his stuff. "Like I said,
that's too bad." Danny wants to be paid for the 1/4 kilo. Casey tells
him to talk to Jerry. Danny says he is detained at the moment. Casey
asks if he wants him to bust him out? He says he has some supply he
has to get rid of. Danny says it can wait: "You and I are going on
 a little outing."
* [At an unknown outdoor location.]
Danny and Casey enter. Casey asks what they are doing there. "Waiting
for someone." Who? "All in good time." Danny notes that Casey seems
jumpy. Casey says he is wasting his time and money. Danny tells him
to stop and smell the roses. He says he isn't surprised that Casey is
jumpy; after all, the guy he just gave 1/4 kilo to was just arrested,
and he might be next. Casey says he knew the risks coming into this.
Danny says he's cool. "Yeah. Shouldn't I be?" Danny asks if there
is anything he wants to tell him.
* Casey asks if there is anything he should be telling him. Danny tells
him to use his imagination. "What, man? Stop looking at me like that.
Do you think I 'narced' on little Jerry?" "Did you?" "Yeah." "And,
I suppose if you did, you'd just fess right up?" Casey asks why he'd
want to get him busted. Danny says he admitted he didn't like him, and
maybe he made a deal with the cops to get his charges dropped. Casey
laughs, "Hey, you know, I think you've been using a little too much of
your own product." "No, I never mix business with pleasure, man.
But..." Danny pulls out a gun. "I guess it's time to start."
