Loving Update Thursday March 30, 1995

Sorry this is a couple days late - I was on call Thursday night and Frida=
y
night I had to, well...sleep.

I still don=92t know what caused the weird punctuation problems on the ma=
iling
list version of the update last week (the RATSA version was OK), so I=92m=
 going
to try it one more time E-mailing this to the Loving list myself, and if =
it
screws up again, please let me know (I don=92t get the list). Then next t=
ime,
I=92ll E-mail it to Debbie Minnett and she=92ll forward it to the list fo=
r me, or
I=92ll have my hubby send it through his Netcom acct. I=92ve never had t=
hat
happen before, so I=92m stumped. If anybody has any ideas why this weird=

punctuation thing happened, please share them with me!

THE UPDATE

Charles enters the hospital lounge to find Angie comforting Jacob. He as=
ks
what=92s going on, and Angie replies that Jacob=92s not feeling well. Sh=
e urges
Jacob to get checked over, but he becomes a little irritated or embarrass=
ed
(=93I told you I=92m OK!=94) and refuses. He leaves, thanking Angie and =
asking her
to =93take care of Mrs. Brewster.=94 Charles asks again what that was al=
l about,
and Angie says, =93Your guess is as good as mine.=94

Clay is in his office on the phone, assuring someone that Cooper will be =
in
Paris =93in time or the press conference=94 as Gwyn walks in. She=92s up=
set that
Clay still insists on Cooper going to Paris while Steffi=92s mother may b=
e
dying. Clay looks unperturbed.

Cooper and Steffi are in Deborah=92s hospital room. Steffi is holding th=
e
unconscious Deborah=92s hand and crying =93Don=92t die..=94 etc. Cooper =
comforts
Steffi, then Deborah wakes up to ask if the party was =93great.=94

Charles continues to badger Angie for more details about what happened wi=
th
Jacob. She says she has no way of knowing what=92s wrong with Jacob with=
out
examining him, and that the other day she didn=92t finish her examination=
=2E
Obviously getting annoyed with Charles, she tells him Jacob cam to visit=

Deborah, brought balloons, and was cooperative when told he couldn=92t st=
ay.
He then got faint and sweaty and was leaning on the wall, so Angie helpe=
d
him to the chair where Charles found them. Charles is not satisfied; he=92=
s
wonders if Jacob=92s sick, why won=92t he let a doctor look at him? Angi=
e
replies coldly that she=92s not omniscient, Charles apologizes. Angie te=
lls
him he has to try harder: =93Life isn=92t a dress rehearsal.=94 (I think =
she's
getting pretty sick of his shtick -Ed.). Steffie comes in to tell Angie =
that
Deborah=92s regained consciousness, and apologizes for interrupting. Ang=
ie
replies, =93That=92s OK, cute as he is, hospital business comes first.=94=
  She
tells Steffi she=92ll be right in, and Steffi trots off. Charles asks, =93=
Do you
really think I=92m cute?=94 Angie answers, =93Sure, as long as you=92re =
not
speaking.=94  They kiss and split.

Cooper and Steffi talk in the hall outside Deborah=92s room. Cooper look=
s
uneasy and Steffie guesses that Clay=92s making him go to Paris. Cooper =
says
=93I=92m not going. No way.=94 They hug.

Gwyn continues to berate Clay for his coldheartedness in his decision. C=
lay
feels that since Cooper fought tooth and nail for this position and got i=
t,
he now has =93obligations=94 to AE and the family. Gwyn thinks Clay is s=
till
jealous of Cooper and Steffi, and asks Clay to consider how traumatic thi=
s
all is for Steffi. She says =93You=92re talking business and I=92m talki=
ng
people.=94  Clay answers,  =93You=92re damn right, I=92m talking $10 mill=
ion.=94  They
argue for awhile, then Clay asks her what he should do. She says maybe f=
or
once he could do =93the right thing=94 and he says he did that when he ga=
ve
Cooper the office in Paris. Gwyn slams out. Clay mutters.

Angie and Dr. Pierce (?cardiologist) are in Deborah=92s room. Dr. Pierce=
 tells
Deborah he wants to run an angiogram, but they have to wait until she=92
stable. Deb says she=92s confused, and asks Angie to explain it to her. =
 Angie
tells Deb she=92s had a =93major heart attack=94 and that the right side =
of the
heart was involved. Deb wants to know *why* she had the heart attack, bu=
t
Angie doesn=92t know why or how extensive the damage is. That=92s why th=
ey want
to do the angio (haven=92t they ever heard of echocardiograms? Sheesh! -E=
d.),
and they have to wait till Deb=92s stronger. Deborah asks for the truth =
re:
her chances. Angie says the fact that she survived is a very good sign; =
they
can=92t give her guarantees, but they=92re hopeful. She tells Deb to res=
t and
starts to leave Dr. Pierce to explain the angio. Before going, Angie =93=
as
your GP=94 prescribes =93one positive thought every fifteen minutes.=94 =
 Deborah
asks why she was never told she had a heart problem. Angie, with a serio=
us
look on her face (the malpractice suit face), says =93that=92s a good que=
stion.=94

Cooper and Steffi enter the hospital lounge. Steffi tells him she=92s qu=
it her
Paris job with Gwyn=92s help. Cooper maintains he=92s not going to Paris=
 but
Steffi insists he shouldn=92t give up his big chance for her. She says s=
he=92ll
come to Paris as soon as her mother gets better. She says it=92s a tempo=
rary
separation and they have the rest of their lives together. She gets weep=
y.
Cooper still doesn=92t want to be away from her at all. He looks teary =
eyed.

Jacob=92s coming out of the hospital men=92s room holding his arm against=
 his
mouth. He leans against the wall looking sweaty. Suddenly he starts to =
have
a black-and-white flashback of an ambulance team rolling a stretcher thou=
gh a
hospital corridor, a young African American boy on the stretcher, obvious=
ly
upset and in pain. He keeps saying =93I can=92t see.=94 The flashback i=
s
distressing Jacob. He slouches down to the floor holding his abdomen. T=
he
flashback starts again, with the boy asking =93Daddy?=94 and Jacob=92s vo=
ice
answering, =93I=92m right here baby.=94 Various voices say =93The boy=92=
s mother was
killed instantly,=94 and =93He=92s lost alot of blood.=94 Jacob is then =
restrained
from following the gurney any further, by hospital staff. He=92s left on=
 the
floor sobbing and yelling, =93Davey! (I think)=94 The flashback ends, an=
d Jacob
says, =93Oh, Detective Harrison. Payback is long overdue.=94 Angie find=
s him
crouching on the floor and helps him up. He tries to joke with her but s=
he=92s
serious, and urges him to get examined by her or another doctor. He
maintains he=92s just fine and does not need a doctor.

Charles is driving and talking on his car phone to a friend at the =93F.B=
=2E of
I.=94 He wants Jacob=92s employment and medical history.

Clay finds Cooper in the hospital lounge. Cooper tells Clay he=92s not g=
oing
to Paris, but that he=92s grateful for all Clay=92s done for him and Stef=
fi.
Clay says the thanks aren=92t necessary, that Cooper doesn=92t have to g=
o to
Paris after all. Cooper=92s speechless. Clay tells him it=92s a pragmat=
ic
business decision. He thinks Cooper running the Paris office was never a=

good idea, so he plans to go himself and set it up. Then, once it=92s ru=
nning,
he=92ll put one of his execs in charge, who would run the office better t=
han
Cooper could ever hope to. Steffi overhears and objects loudly. Cooper
takes her aside and tells her that everything=92 s working out great for =
them
now, Clay=92s letting Cooper out of the job. Why is she so upset? Steff=
i says
no, =93he=92s taking it away from you.=94 She wants Cooper to stand up =
for
himself and follow through with his Paris proposal, because he may never =
have
a chance like it again, and he will regret it in the future. She says it=

won=92t be easy to see him leave (HEAR HEAR -Ed.) but if he doesn=92t do =
it,
=93It=92s gonna kill us.=94 She starts crying again and tells him =93If =
you love me,
you=92ll go.=94 Cooper looks like he gets her message. As they hug, Cla=
y slinks
away in the background. =

-THE END-

=2E

negative ones unless you count the punctuation snafu comments) last time =
-
it=92s great to know these updates are read and enjoyed!
