LOVING Update for Friday, January 27:

STORYLINE: AMWAY DOESN'T GIVE FREE SAMPLES, EITHER
           (starting location: police station)
* Det. Pat Graham is congratulating Charles for finally arresting Danny
Roberts. He hands Charles a piece of paper with Helen Lewis' picture
on it. "Man, she sure looks like such a nice girl, doesn't she?"
Angie enters. She is there to have lunch with Charles and Frankie (who
they will pick up at the agency). Pat tells Charles that he can have a
nice, long lunch, and calls Angie a "very good cop." He leaves.
Charles says "someone" isn't too proud of him. Angie tells Charles that
he *is* a good cop, and he can be proud of that. "But..." "Well,
I don't know if some of our friends would agree." "Like...Casey?"
"Yeah. You remember him, the one you arrested?"
* Charles says he thought they had already been through this. Angie
says it isn't finished for her. He says Casey was caught in the home
of a known drug dealer. "It doesn't mean *he* was dealing." Angie
asks if he considered the possibility of Casey's story being the truth.
Charles doesn't buy that Danny gave Casey a free sample and he was just
there to return it. He says dealers don't make a habit of giving drugs
away. "They do if they're trying to get someone hooked." Charles says
Casey is already hooked. Angie says he told her that he had stopped.
She asks why he seems to *want* Casey to be guilty. He says he has
seen too many people ruin their lives with drugs...and maybe this is a
good thing for Casey, maybe it will make him think twice the next time
he wants to use drugs. Angie says that if Casey has a problem, it is
a medical problem, not a legal one. She asks if they are on different
"sides" about this. He says he has to be on the side of the law. The
laws are made to protect the people and they have to obey them. Angie
says that in medicine, they are taught that no two cases are alike. He
asks if there should be different individial laws for everyone in the
United States. She accuses him of "deliberately" not understanding
her. He says no, he *sincerely* doesn't understand her. "Well, then,
I guess there's nothing more to say." She gets up to leave, Charles
stops her. He asks if they're still going to lunch. She says she has
lost her appetite. He says she'll need her strength for Round Three.
She says she doesn't want to fight with him. He says the same. She
says that for two people who don't want to fight, they've been doing
it a lot. She leaves. Charles strolls slowly and sadly out the door.
* [At the ad agency, right after Casey leaves -- see below.]
Helen enters. She asks Frankie how he is, and he says he is no good at
small talk; just tell me what you want.
* Frankie says he figures she isn't there to talk to him, considering
the number of phone messages she has left for Casey. Helen asks if
there can't be more than one man in her life. "Umm-humm. I'll bet
 there are a lot."
Angie and Charles enter the outside door of the agency. Angie proposes
a truce, at least until after lunch. Charles agrees.
They go inside and see Frankie and Helen talking. Angie says Frankie
must have something going on. Charles, recognizing Helen, says he has
something going on, all right. Angie asks what it is. We pan back to
Helen, who is saying that she'll "leave that up to [Frankie]."

STORYLINE: BAD DAYS FOR CASEY AND ALLY
(starting location: Ava and Alex's Penthouse)
* Alex and Ava are back for the first time in a while. They are telling
Kate about their "second honeymoon" trip. Kate asks Alex if he has
thought about going back onto the force. He says he hasn't had time to
give that any thought. The door bell rings. It's Ally. Alex asks if
everything is all right. "They've been better." She tells them about
 Casey's arrest. Kate hugs her.
[At the ad agency.]
Casey walks into Tess' office. He welcomes her back and asks why
she wanted to see him. "Close the door." She says she was doing some
"light reading" on the plane, and she kept something for his scrapbook.
She tosses down a paper, with this column:
    "Drug Bust
Corinth detectives closed in on a local yuppie drug ring that
has been operating out of an apartment on Bay Street. Arrested
at the scene was Casey Bowman, a photographer employed by the
Wilder Agency. Mr. Bowman has pleaded innocent and is out on
     bail, pending trial."
Casey says he knows what she is thinking, and this is not what she
thinks... Tess interrupts him and says that she is too busy for that.
She has an agency to run, and her first order of business is hiring a
 new photographer.
* [At the Penthouse.]
Ally recounts the story about finding the drugs in the camera bag and
the night of the arrest. She isn't sure whether to believe him when
he says that they were both mistakes. Kate says she wishes Ally had
shared all of this with them. Ally says it was embarrassing. She says
she has taken Tyler to Kate's house, and she hopes she can stay there
for a while. Kate says of course. Ally says she wants to help Casey,
but she doesn't know how she can. Alex asks if Casey has a lawyer.
She doesn't know. Alex says he figures the court appointed one. He
wants to call Charles and find out what is really going on. Ava asks
Alex if he knows a *good* lawyer. He says yes, but Ally says they
can't afford one. Ava tells her to not worry about the money -- she
doesn't want Casey to go to jail. Ally asks if he would really go to
jail. [No kidding...] Alex says it depends on the judge. He says
that Casey can do a lot of things for himself: get enrolled in rehab
and, most importantly, he *has* to be willing to testify against the
drug dealer. Ally says she'll tell him. She says she can't decide
about leaving Casey right now. Ava and Kate comfort her. Kate says,
"Right now, we've got to think about you, if only for Tyler's sake."
[At the ad agency.]
"Are you firing me?" "I have just cause, don't you think?" Casey
tells her not to believe what she reads in the papers. He says he is
completely innocent in this. Tess says the agency can't afford any
more bad publicity and asks how she can believe him. He says he only
has his word. She isn't sure she can take that risk. Casey tells her
she won't regret it. Tess ponders it, saying that she is partially
responsible, having put him under so much pressure...and says he can
stay, but "if you ever take anything stronger than aspirin, you are
out of here for good." He says he understands. She tells him he looks
terrible and sends him home. He thanks her and leaves.
* Frankie stops Casey on his way out. He asks how it went. Casey says
he was *almost* fired, but he was let off with a warning. Frankie says
that everything is going great. "Oh yeah, everything's great. I'm
facing drug charges, my marriage may be over. Everything's just
fabulous." Frankie says he is with him, and Angie wanted him to know
that she stands behind him, too, and she's there if he ever needs to
talk to someone. "Two out of three ain't bad." Frankie says Angie and
Charles are "having some hassles" about his attitude. Casey says that
it is "cool" (sarcastically) that he is causing problems in yet another
family. Frankie apologizes, but Casey says he is well aware of his
"fabulous" ability to destroy other peoples' lives. Casey leaves.
[At the Penthouse.]
Ally says she has to leave because he left Tyler with Cooper. Ava
asks what Cooper thinks of all of this. Ally says he is very upset.
Kate and Ava reassure Ally that they are there for her. Alex says that
this is no longer about just Casey -- it's about all of them. Kate
reminds her that they can discuss anything with them any time, and
makes her promise that she will. Ava walks Ally to the door, saying
that everything will work out. Ally leaves.
* Alex leaves a message at the police station for Charles. Kate says
that Ally is frightened, and wants to be talked out of leaving Casey.
Ava says she won't do that! Alex says she loves him *so* much...
Kate leaves so that Ally won't be alone at home. Alex promises to call
when he hears anything. Ava thanks Kate for everything she did while
they were gone. After Kate leaves, Ava goes to Alex and hugs him.
[At the Bowman house.]
Ally is gathering up some of Tyler's belongings. Casey enters. "Hi."
Ally says nothing. Casey says it is good to see her. "Yeah." He says
that it has been really lonely there without her. She says she is just
there to pick up some of Tyler's things. Casey asks how long this is
going to go on. "Are we talking a week here, a month, for good?" She
says she doesn't know, but she does know she can't stay there. She
can't stand to not know whether to believe him. He says she doesn't
have to do this. "This is hard enough as it is. Please don't make it
any harder." Ally leaves, saying, "Bye, Casey."

STORYLINE: A SLIGHT ERROR
           (location: The Tides)
* Trucker and Dinah Lee are sitting around, waiting for the coroner's
office to call. DL says she feels guilty about this. Trucker says he
is doing this for himself, too. He was planning to do it before they
went to Rome, but Clay stopped it. "In a few hours, maybe in a few
minutes, the worries will be over." DL says she hopes so. Trucker
suggests that they divert their attention and work on the guest list
for the wedding. DL says maybe they had better wait. Trucker says
maybe he had better get a new fiance...they laugh, and Trucker goes
 to get the list.
* None.
* Trucker is doing some busy work outside. He recalls a speech he made
to Trisha at the site of "her" death: "You taught me how to be loved,
Trisha. You made me the father that I want to be. And I will try, so
hard, to go on and be the man you told me I am. [Lays a flower down.]
Good bye, Trisha. I will love you forever." He recalls the proposal,
when Trisha had the acorn rings made. Trisha: "Our love has grown and
grown, and now it's as strong and towering as a mighty oak tree." They
put the rings on each other's fingers. "This makes it official, we're
engaged." Trucker snaps back to the present.
Robert Mitchell of the Medical Examiner's office enters. He introduces
himself and says they have compled the exhumation. Trucker invites him
 inside.
* Mitchell says he hopes they will take into consideration the number of
cases they have to deal with. "One must always leave a certain margin
for human error." Dinah Lee asks what he is saying -- he came there in
person... "Miss Mayberry, please." "I'm sorry." Mitchell continues,
"It's really hard to tell you this. Even harder to explain. The body
in Trisha McKenzie's grave isn't Trisha McKenzie."

Yawn, we've known this for years-hanger
