LOVING Update for "Friday the 13th" of January:

STORYLINE: WORKING WOMAN
           (starting location: The Tides)
* Stacey tells Buck he's been "awful quiet" this morning and asks if it
is because she took the job at the agency. He says he said she didn't
need to take it. Stacey says she heard him say *not* to take it, and
he hasn't said two words since. He admits he was out of line. Stacey
asks what his problem with this is. "It's Tess."
[At the ad agency.]
Gwyneth stops Tess near the front desk and tells her that she filled
the copy writer position. "Great. Who?" "Stacey Forbes." Tess
 appears stunned.
* "You hired *Stacey*?" Gwyn says she knows things might be a little
bit uncomfortable between the two of them. "That's an understatement."
Gwyn says she doesn't see any reason not to hire Stacey. "How many
reasons do you want?" Gwyn says it was Tess who kept Buck and Stacey
apart: she didn't tell them about the plane crash. Tess says there's
nothing personal-- Gwyn says good, so we now have an excellent writer
on our staff. "With absolutely no advertising experience." Gwyn asks
how much background either of them had. Tess says that Gwyn had a
solid business background, and that she won't run a training program
here. Gwyn says Stacey's samples were great and says that if Stacey
can't cut it, Gwyn will be the first to admit it. "After all, she's
working for me." Gwyn stomps off. "For the moment..."
[At The Tides.]
Buck says he's surprised she would even consider it. Stacey says she
has no problem with it. "Well, I do." "Why? Because you were 'seeing
each other' for a while?" Buck says Tess only kept him around because
she was making him feel guilty about the crash. Stacey says that's all
in the past. Buck says keep it in the past -- stay away from Tess.
She says she can handle Tess. "Handle her or take her on?" Stacey
says this isn't about revenge. This was just the only job available.
Buck says that if it is about the money-- Stacey says no, it's about
getting out there and *doing* something. It's about being able to talk
about something besides TV or the dishwasher breaking. He says she is
a beautiful, interesting woman who doesn't have to change for anybody.
"I'm not trying to change. I'm trying to just get back to something.
I used to call myself a writer. It's pretty hard to do that when you
aren't even writing." "Ads for dog food?" Stacey admits it's not "the
Great American Novel" but it is *hard*. Buck says he sometimes has
trouble writing post cards-- Stacey says that he knows, then, that it
is a challenge, and she needs to get out of this rut. "Thanks a lot."
She says no, this will be *good* for them, "trust me, you'll see."
 They hug each other.
* None.
* [At the (now empty) ad agency.]
Stacey is sitting at a laptop, working. Buck enters and asks how the
"working woman" is. She says she's OK, she's just "settling in." He
asks where everyone else is. They're all at a "wrap party" at Tess'
house. "Weren't you invited?" Yes, but being so new, she would feel
uncomfortable there. Buck doesn't buy it, saying, "Oh, nothing to do
with Tess." "No, no, I told you. This is a job, period." She tells
him to take her to dinner and she'll tell him about her first day. He
says OK, and they can talk about his new job. "What new job is that?"
He says it hasn't exactly started yet, but she just might be looking
at the new owner of the Rodeo Bar. She asks if they won the lottery.
"Not yet, but I'm definitely on a roll." Stacey starts to question
him, but he picks her up and throws her over his shoulder. "Buck, my
computer!" Buck picks it up and tells her that they have to make a
side trip on their way to dinner. She kicks him and calls him a brute
 as they leave.

STORYLINE: CAN YOU SAY "DYSFUNCTIONAL?"
(starting location: Casey and Ally's house)
* Tyler and Ally are playing "Operation" (!!). Cooper rings the door
bell and Ally invites him in. Cooper asks who is outside. It is the
electrician, says Ally; he might as well move in. He says he thought
it was fixed; she says it was, but it blew again last night. Cooper
asks if they stayed there last night without power. Ally says Casey
fixed it, but there's something wrong with the fuse box. Cooper says
Casey's a handy guy and asks how he's handling his new job. "He seems
fine." "Yeah, and our deal is still in effect, right?" "I have not
left Tyler alone with Casey, OK?" Cooper says that he hates to be the
villain, but until he is sure Casey's off drugs, he doesn't want to
take any chances. Ally says he doesn't have to worry about that; Casey
 is getting therapy.
[At the ad agency.]
Casey is on the phone, telling the receptionist at the psychiatrist's
office that he is having a problem with the prescription the doctor
gave him. She says he won't be in until 3, can she have him call him?
Casey says no, he'll call back later, and slams down the phone.
Stephanie emerges in a robe with her hair up. She tells Casey that
she will be ready as soon as she puts a dress on. Casey barely moves.
She asks him if he is OK. He says no, he's not good. He says it is
the medication, it makes him feel sick. Stephy tells him to just stop
taking it. "I can't. I can't." He says that today is going to be a
"hell ride" and he needs something to get him through.
* Stephy tells Casey that antidepressants don't always kick in right
away. Casey says that's why he has to keep taking them. Not if they
are causing bad side effects, says Stephanie.
Tess enters, saying, "There you are!" Stephy leaves to get her dress
on. Tess says that these next shots are going to be a bit tricky; is
he up for that? "Hey, the trickier, the better," says Casey, smiling.
"That's my man." Tess leaves. Casey hangs his head.
[At Casey and Ally's house.]
Cooper asks if that was her idea. No, it was his. She asked a long
time ago and he wouldn't. Cooper asks what brought it on. She says
he realized how serious his problem was getting...plus she told him
that if he did drugs again, she would take Tyler and leave. [Tyler
continues to play "Operation" but the batteries are obviously gone.
Cooper is absent-mindedly playing with the play money.] Cooper asks
if that didn't put some pressure on Casey. Ally tells him not to judge
her. He says no, he just wonders if that's the right thing to do.
She tells him not to tell her what to do, considering how poorly he is
doing with Stephanie. "At least I'm not hiring Eric Brooks to go keep
an eye on Casey." He says Eric is out of the picture. She says yes,
but after the damage is done. He admits he made a mistake. Ally says
no, the mistake was not being honest with Stephanie. Cooper says he
was honest with her about the deal with Eric and now she won't listen
to him about anything. "Well, you sure can make a mess of things now,
can't you?" "Thank you." Ally apologizes and asks if they are still
friends. Cooper says they have to be -- he has no other friends. Ally
tells him to *be up front with her*. "It's working for me and Casey,
it's gonna work for you and Stephanie."
[At the ad agency.]
Cooper enters and asks Tess if she has seen Stephy. Tess asks if he
hasn't caused enough problems for her already. "I take it she told you
what happened with Eric." Tess says yes and thanks him on behalf of
both of them. In the mirror, we see Stephy enter, now dressed in the
wedding dress. Cooper thanks Tess for her attitude but says he really
needs to see her. Tess doesn't answer, but he sees her in the mirror
and turns around. She looks up and notices him.
* "Stephy. You look--" Tess storms back in. "She looks *busy*." Tess
says she wants only production people around here. Stephy says it is
OK. Tess says it is *not* OK; they're already behind schedule. Stephy
says she'll only be a minute. "*One* minute." Tess leaves.
Stephy asks, "So, what can I do for you?" He says he just wanted to
talk about what happened with Eric. She says she has already heard
all the explanations. He says she really doesn't know everything.
She says she knows everything she wants to know about him.
C: "Stephy, no, let me just explain."
S: "When I want to be with you, you don't want to be with me. And then,
when I don't need you any more, you show up."
C: "Stephy, I've always wanted to be with you."
S: "Face it, Cooper. You want what you can't have. It's as simple as
 that."
C: "No, you're talking about Clay, not me."
S: "Clay? Well, Clay was right, you're a lot more -- You're a lot
more like him than I thought."
C: "I know you don't believe that's true. You can't believe that's
 true."
S: "Sorry, your minute's up."
Stephanie leaves, despite Cooper's protests.
Elsewhere, the client approaches Casey and shakes his hand, telling
him that he did a great job. Casey thanks him. He says he hopes
they get a chance to work together again sometime. He leaves. Casey
 is befuddled.
Tess enters. Casey asks what that "sometime" bit was about -- he has a
deal for five more shoots. Tess says that after today, they're going
to bring someone else in -- just for the video, Casey will continue to
do the "print stuff." He says he thought she was happy with what he
was doing. Tess says she *loves* what he is doing, but a bigwig at BCG
has a nephew who directs commercials and he thinks he can do a better
job, and it is nothing personal. Casey shakes his head...
* [At the loft (Tess' place) -- the wrap party.]
Ally enters and asks Casey how his day went. "Oh, just dandy. I was
taken off the account today." He explains why. "Let's hear it for
nepotism." "Well, at least it wasn't your work." So Tess says. Ally
says Tess wouldn't say that if it wasn't true. Casey says it's fine
anyway: they both wanted him to work less, and he'll still be on the
print campaign. Casey leaves; Cooper approaches.
Ally asks Cooper if he talked to Stephanie. He says he tried, but
she was very cold to him. Ally says it was just an act. Cooper says
that if it was an act, she could win best actress.
Stephanie enters the party. Tess rushes up and tells her that she
was terrific today. She made her think that she was really a bride
at her wedding. "What can I say? I'm a hell of an actress."
Casey is approached by Helen Lewis. He asks if she is with BCG and
she says no, she just knows some people at the agency. Actually, she
is an old friend of Danny Roberts. He asked her to look Casey up and
see if he --um-- needed anything.
Ally looks on from the background as Casey tells Helen to tell Danny
that he is doing *just fine*. "You seem a little tense." "Do I?
Well, rough day." "Would an 'eight-ball' help?" We pan to Ally,
listening from behind a nearby screen.

STORYLINE: BEST SON
           (location: Ad agency)
* None.
* Angie enters and asks Frankie if they can steal him away for lunch.
She says that she and Charles can't decide on the size of their wedding
and they need a referee. Frankie says he is in the middle of a photo
shoot and he doesn't have time to talk. Angie says they will be at the
Rodeo at noon, if he can stop by. Frankie says he will if he has time
and starts to leave. Charles pulls Frankie aside and asks if he has a
minute, he has something "kinda important" to ask him.
* Charles says that he's been talking to Angela, and it looks like they
have hit a snag in their relationship because of him. Frankie says he
is her son, not her father, and they don't need his permission to get
married. No, says Charles, but it is important to him. Frankie says
if they went his blessing, they've got it. "Ouch. Do you think you
can say it and *mean* it, just a little bit?" "Yeah, I can." Frankie
says he likes Charles, and his mom loves him, so if they want to get
married, it's "cool" with him. He says he knows he has been acting
like a knucklehead, and he's sorry about that. "Do you think I'd be
asking a little knucklehead to be my best man? What do you say?"
Frankie accepts. They "low-fist" on it and hug.
* None.

STORYLINE: ONLY A DRESS?
           (starting location: the Tides)
* Trucker enters with coffee. He asks everyone if they want some. Buck
and Stacey decline; Dinah Lee is in a trance. He asks her again, and
she snaps out and declines. Stacey asks DL what's wrong -- it's a case
of pre-wedding jitters. Trucker asks if she is still upset about the
dress incident. Yes. "I saw the dress, I liked the dress. Why didn't
I Buy the dress?" She says it is the one she wanted to be married in.
He asks if the wedding is off. DL, kidding, says she guesses so and
walks away. Trucker, having "lost a wife," follows.
* None.
* Trucker drags Dinah Lee out of the hallway. He is trying to get her
to smile. She kids him and tells him to get to work. He says that
Arthur [Huh? We haven't seen him in months!] is watching the shop and
he has the whole day to spend with her, like it or not. "I like it,
but I have one condition: we don't talk about the dress." "Deal."
She walks away, then turns back around, almost in tears. He says she
won't stop thinking about it, though. "I can't." He says it was only
a rental and should be returned, right? "I hope so." He suggests that
she call the store. She says she did, and they don't know. Trucker
says he would marry her in a potato sack. She says that's not a good
look for her. He asks what was so special about that dress. She says
it was perfect. He asks why she didn't buy it. She says that's what
she keeps thinking about. She should have trusted her instincts. He
tells her not to be so hard on herself. She says it's not really about
the dress; she should have just trusted "us." She says they would have
been married a lot sooner except that she kept finding reasons not to.
He says he knows why: she just wanted to find "Mr. Right." She says
no, it is that even though he kept saying that Trisha was gone, she had
to keep finding signs and omens that she was back. She almost let a
"stupid dove on a cake" break them up. He had to take her to Trisha's
grave to try to get through to her. He asks if he did. Yeah. He asks
again. She says that she wouldn't marry him if she had any doubts, but
"I am going to marry you and I am going to wear that dress if it kills
 me."
[At the ad agency.]
Angie finds Stephanie, in her dress, and says it is the most beautiful
dress... "Thank you." Angie says she would like to be married in that
dress. Stephy says she would look spectacular in it. She asks where
she bought it. Stephy says Tess just rented it for the day, but she
could talk to Tess and find out. "OK, I will. Thank you."
* [At Angie's house.]
Angie is admiring herself in a mirror, dressed in the wedding dress.
Charles enters. "I don't know who you are, miss, but I'm definitely
going to marry you." Angie turns around, horrified (apparently because
Charles sees her in her wedding dress).
[At The Tides.]
Dinah Lee is talking to Mrs. Montgomery at the dress shop. She reminds
her that she saw the ivory-colored dress, silk with lace, circa 1916,
that had been rented out. "When it gets back in, I would like very
much to-- [Pause.] You sold it."
