Today (Tuesday, December 12, 1995) in "the city"

Sydney is on the phone talking to Samuel. Yes, she can see the crowd.
No, she won't be a part of it, she's heard Nick's song before. She
knows it, by heart. She'll stay home and put on her bunny slippers.
Alone, that's the beauty of computers. She promises. She hangs up the
phone, says home sweet home, and takes off her shoes.

Jacob kisses Angie and says he's surprised, he expected *some* people
to show up, but not these many. Angie says she has to wait for Zoey.
She's babysitting? Jacob says. SHE'S NOT A BABY, Kayla says. Jacob
kisses Angie and leaves.

Buck says they have to turn these people away. They'll be back, Tess
says, people will kill to see what they can't get in to see. Jacob
comes in and Buck thanks him. For what, spending all your money on
publicity? Buck says he's called it right so far, his money is on
him, and Nick.

Meanwhile, Nick is looking at himself in the mirror.

Alex and Tony come into the bar. Jacob shows them in. Alex is a
little short on the cover charge. Tess comes over and asks what
they have on her. I'm fine, and how are you? Alex says. She'll be
fine, once they get some dirt on Sydney. Meanwhile, Richard is
setting up, giving the crew a headache. Ally comes over and says
hi. Richard kids her about Mr. Roberts being over there. Meanwhile,
Tess is berating Alex for not being able to dig up skeletons,
Sydney's got a graveyard, she knows it. Alex tells her to cool it,
and if she would give him a chance, he'd tell her that he found
something. Oh, Tess says.

Sydney is playing chess on the computer. She fingers Nick's
lighter. She throws it. And leaves the room.

Nick is tuning the guitar. He's drinking. Let the Good Times roll!
he says.

Alex says Sydney is indeed married to Jared Chase, and the adoption
papers are legal. You found he's a happy wife and mother and call
that finding something? Tess yells. This will take time, Alex says,
unless she wants Mrs. Chase to know they're checking up on her.
Someone comes over with an envelope. Tess says, about time. Not
so fast, Tony says, they do have other cases. She wants Sydney
Chase? that's the idea, Tess says, Go get her, Tony says. Sydney
comes in.

Ally sits with a male model from the agency. Is there something
he can do for her? he asks. As a matter of fact...Meanwhile,
at the bar, Zoey wants a drink. Back at their table, Alex says
so this is her. Finally, Tony says, it helps to know what she
looks like. Alex reads the back of the photo. Oh, no, he says.

Meanwhile, Kayla shows Angie a fossil that her mother gave her.
Her mother was gonna show her more, at the...Museum of Natural
History, Angie suggests. She was gonna take her there, Kayla says,
then she went away. What else does she know? Angie asks. Kayla
says they other people never let her talk about her mother. Well,
she can talk all she wants about her now. Kayla cries. She
doesn't remember much.
Jacob says it's good that Sydney reserved a table early, they're sold
out. Richard comes over and says, Slumming? She likes to see how
the other half lives, Sydney says. Richard says that this is news.
She loves music. Who does he love? Richard loves Richard, he says.
Sydney points out Zoey at the bar to Richard. Buck tells her that
she needs to be 21 to get a drink. She has a very old soul, she
suggests. Buck says no. Richard and Zoey talk. She's a survivor,
Richard says. She does that by staying away from him! Jacob says
isn't she suppose to be with Kayla? She'll be there by showtime.
Meanwhile, Danny comes over and tells Ally he's been saving a chair
for her. Why doesn't he join them, she coos. No, he's got other
plans. Alex is on the phone. Tess is loudly complainign that she's
(Sydney's) in the bar, waiting for the guy she just paid a fortune
to get out of town. Alex tells her to cut it out. Alex says (to the
phone) that it's a match, and they'll be right down. He and Tony
leave. Buck asks Jacob here the star is. He'll be here. He better,
Buck says. Nick goes to the door of the bar and sees Sydney. He
turns around, and drinks from the flask as he walks in front of the
window.

The crowd is chanting WE WANT NICK, WE WANT NICK, WE WANT NICK.
Jacob gets their attention. They want their money back. Jacob says
Mr. Rivers has been detained. Richard wants to go live with the
fact that Nick is a no-show. Jacob introduces Judy, the comic (who
was working as a bartender since Jacob and Buck figured Nick didn't
need an opening act). The crowd wants Nick. They heckle her. She
tries. Jacob says that he's sorry. Buck says that he's tired and
he doesn't want to hear it. Angie is taking Kayla to the lounge as
Zoey comes in. She's followed by Alex and Tony, who tell Angie they
found Kayla's mom. Kayla is happy. Alex wants to talk to Angie by
herself. Zoey takes Kayla aside. They didn't find Kayla's mom, the
police did. At the morgue, Tony says. She's dead, Alex adds. Oh no,
Angie says.

Meanwhile, the comic is getting heckled some more. The crowd wants
Nick Rivers, or their money back. Richard starts his live report
about the tragic story about a man who made it to the top once,
then fell, and destroyed his comeback. Jacob stops Sydney from
leaving, She says she's heard this story before. She leaves. The
comic tries some more. She tells the crowd she knows they want to
like her, really. We pan to Nick, passed out on a bed with his
guitar across his chest.
