Eviction Revisited: The Subtle Touch
------------------------------------
Sydney is in her office. She gets a call from some sort of politician named
Josh, who she donated money to during the last campaign. She asks him if
he's going to do that little favor she asked for. He apparently is. Sounds
like he may be handling the eviction, since she tells him to leave the clinic
alone; she'll handle that. Syd fondles Nick's lighter.

Angie's giving a patient a prescription. Zoey comes in. Angie asks if she's
okay. Zoey didn't find the people that took her $4800. Angie asks what
she's going to do now? Zoey says maybe it's time for her to get long gone,
like the guys that took her money. Angie tells Zoey to let her know if there's
anything she can do. Zoey seems pretty hopeless. Angie asks what she plan-
ned to do if she found the guys? They could have really hurt her. Zoey cries
about how long it took her to save that money. Angie says she can imagine.
"Can you?" says Zoey. Angie says maybe there is something she can do.
"Write me a check?" Zoey says. Angie says no, she has a better idea.
Angie offers Zoey a job to help out around the clinic and watch out for Kayla;
she wouldn't be able to pay much, but at least she'd have a bed to sleep in.
Zoey says she already has one, over on Avenue C. Angie asks if she wouldn't
rather have a place of her own? Zoey says it doesn't really matter. Angie
says no strings. Zoey asks if it'll pay more than $2 a day, like she's paying
Kayla? Because she requires just a bit more. Angie says she's sure they can
work something out. Zoey asks where Kayla is, and Angie tells her at school.
Zoey's impressed that Angie got her to go to school. Zoey says Kayla's a good
kid, and smart, too. Angie agrees. Angie asks if Zoey can start tonight?
Zoey
accepts, till something better comes along... the guys on Avenue C had a dis-
gusting notion about collecting rent. Zoey asks for an advance on a couple of
bucks, since she hasn't eaten since yesterday. Angie sends Zoey to the bar,
and says to tell Jacob Angie sent her. Zoey leaves, and runs into Sydney on
the way out.

Sydney comments that the clinic certainly looks different than the last time
she saw it. Angie doesn't look thrilled to see her. Sydney says it's a bit
cramped. Angie says they manage. Sydney says they might consider moving
into a bigger space before they get settled in. Angie knows Sydney doesn't
want them there, but until she gets legally evicted, which she is told will be
difficult, she's staying. Sydney says that's too bad, because she knows a
building that would be perfect; twice the space, and half the rent. Would she
care to take a look? Angie says no thank you, all her friends are here. Syd
says she can make new friends, ones that can help her with her funding;
she'll be happy to make the introductions. Angie says she appreciates it, but
she isn't taking bribes today. Sydney wouldn't call it a bribe; rather, a
mutually
gratifying business deal. Angie reiterates that she's happy where she is.
Sydney says she could be much happier, with more space, uptown, nicer neigh-
borhood, and access to people that can help fund the clinic. Angie again
refuses,
saying she'd rather not deal with outside sources [who's funding this clinic,
anyway, besides the mob that is?]. Sydney comments on the sonogram mach-
ine, and that it must have cost a fortune. Angie says it was donated. Sydney
comments that she wonders who could have afforded to do something like that.
Angie buys a vowel, and says if it comes with any strings, Sydney can have it
back. "No need," Sydney says. Angie asks why she wants them out of the
building so bad, anyway? Sydney says this building is sentimental to her, it
reminds her of where she came from. Angie says she feels the same way; they
came to New York looking for a new life, and here they are. At an impasse,
says
Sydney. Sydney warns Angie that she's stubborn. Angie says that's another
thing they have in common.

Fun in the World of Modeling
---------------------------
Bernardo is painting the agency a kind of nasty shade of green, while a bunch
of rather effeminate guys work on Azure's face and hair. One of the effeminate
guys is apparently a photographer, and is taking pictures of Azure, but he's
testy
about the light, and tells everyone to take 10. Azure looks tired and
frustrated.
Bernardo comes up and jokingly asks how many famous photographers it takes to
screw in a light bulb. Azure laughs, and they chat. Azure thinks she's
screwing
up, but Bernardo thinks she looks great. Azure wants to know why he's so nice
to her? Bernardo says it's easy.

Ally comes in, and Tess flags her down. She tells Ally she'll be working with
Danny today, but she'll have to ask him why. Ally congratulates Danny on
getting
a callback for a commercial. She says it must be the pictures she took. Danny
says no, it's the face that was in them. Ally asks what the commercial's for,
and Danny gets all embarrassed; he says it's for "a product type thing." Ally
keeps harassing Danny about the job. Danny asks what difference it makes?
Ally has to know what kind of shots to take, head shots, body shots? Try
crotch shots, says Danny, the commercial is for jock itch cream. Ally makes
fun of Danny. He just wants to get to the pictures. Ally asks if he wants to
practice scratching first? Danny's glad she thinks it's so funny. Ally thinks
if he's really good they might move him up to athlete's foot. Danny's not
nearly as amused.

Skeletons in the Chase Closet?
------------------------------
Tess then asks Bernardo if he got that information on Sydney that she asked
for. Bernardo sighs, but later brings Tess an old society magazine that he got
from his friend "Pinky the Rat." He asks her what she wants with an old mag-
azine? Tess says she's doing a little research. Bernardo hopes she finds what
she's looking for. Tess finds some interesting dirt on "Sydney Chase and
family."
Alex comes in. Tess greets him with a kiss and welcomes him to New York.
Tess asked him down to ask him and Tony to do a little job for her; "did you
bring your shovel?" she asks. Alex is a bit confused. Tess tells him she's
looking for dirt on Sydney Chase. Alex asks Tess if she's totally out of her
mind. Tess asks if he's afraid of Sydney Chase, because she's not. Alex says
this isn't Corinth, you don't go around checking people out without getting
into
trouble. Tess'll risk it. Alex asks what Sydney did to warrant this? Tess
won't
tell him, but says if he doesn't want the job, she'll find someone who'll take
it.
Tess says Sydney must have skeletons in her closets, and she's going to find
them. Alex asks what makes Tess so sure? Tess says behind that public image
is a graveyard waiting to be dug up. Tess shows him the magazine pictures of
the perfect little family, including the perfectly coiffed Baby Richard. Alex
asks
what the person stupid enough to take this job will be expected to find out.
"Everything," says Tess. Alex gives Tess some free advice; let this business
with Sydney go. Tess tells him about the attempt to evict them into the
street,
including his favorite niece Ally. Alex asks if anyone will be able to talk
her out
of this. Tess says no. Alex says for her own protection, he'll do it. Tess
says
start with her family; why would a happily married woman buy out an entire
Eagles concert just to get some has-been musician out of town? Alex is
surprised.
Tess thinks that's a bit more than a case of the hots for Nick Rivers. Alex
says he
was at Sydney's party, and saw Nick's encore. Tess asks if he agrees? Alex
says
he'll check it out, but Tony may have to finish it, because he doesn't know how
long
he'll be in town. Tess says Sydney started it, but she's going to finish it.

Nick Gets a Gig: Jacob Frets
----------------------------
Nick's hanging out at the bar, drinking. He ribs Jacob about the lack of
customers.
Jacob says it's only 2:00 in the afternoon, *most* people are working. Nick
says
he's working too... maybe Jacob should bring him a straw with the next round,
because he's getting tired. Jacob thinks maybe something to eat with the next
round would be a better plan. Nick doesn't want to spoil his dinner. Nick ask
how business is. Jacob says a bit slow, but word will get around and it'll
pick up.
Nick says this is New York, there's a lot of competition. Nick thinks they
really
need something unique and different, that no one else has. Jacob asks if he
has any
ideas? Nick says "yeah, yours." "Mine?" asks Jacob? "Yeah," Nick says, "me."
Jacob says he appreciates the offer. Nick says he's talking about the offer
Jacob
made to him 3 weeks ago. "What, all of a sudden you can't afford me?" Jacob
says
money is a big consideration. Nick asks what that's supposed to mean? Jacob
picks
up his glass, and says that Nick hasn't exactly been Mr. Reliability. Nick
says this
isn't exactly headline at the ballpark either. Jacob tells him not to go
there. Nick's
offended, saying maybe he cleaned himself up over the last couple of years, and
there are lots of people who'd pay him to sing them down memory lane. Jacob
asks
why he didn't? Nick says because he's not willing to sing the same songs he
did 20
years ago, no matter how much people are willing to pay him. Jacob makes fun
of
his "integrity." Nick says we may all be whores, but this old whore only puts
out
when he wants to. Nick says they both know music is a living thing, and if you
try
to freeze it in one time or place, you'll kill it. His old music is nothing
compared to
what he does today. Jacob says he believes him. Nick asks then what's the
problem?
Jacob asks how he's so sure people will want to hear his current stuff. Nick's
not...
because they haven't had a chance to hear it. Which is why he needs Jacob. Is
he
going to be the fool to pass on Nick Rivers' comeback? Jacob says he'll talk
to Buck.
Buck asks Nick if he paid for his drink. Jacob says he knows Nick has
problems, but
he thinks they should give him a shot. Buck wants to know why. Jacob says
he's
talented. Buck says maybe once... Jacob says his new stuff is even better.
Buck
says he's only heard one song, how does he know? Jacob says if the other stuff
is even half as good, they're sitting on a gold mine, and we can pack them in.
Or
maybe go packing, says Buck. Jacob says he needs the job, he can't afford to
mess
it up. Jacob thinks it's worth the gamble. Buck says fine, if he thinks Nick
is that
big a deal, let's put some money into it; radio spots, advertising, flyers, the
whole
works. Jacob asks if they can afford that? Buck says yes, if Nick delivers...
other-
wise, you're dead meat. Still think he's worth it? asks Buck. Jacob says he
is. Buck
says he hopes he's right. Jacob gives Nick the good news.

Zoey's sitting at the bar, and flirts with Buck, then orders a tequila. Buck
says she's
under age, and pulls her towards the door. On his way out, Buck warns Nick
that no
matter what Jacob thinks, Buck thinks he's a drunk looking for a place to
crash; for
his sake, he hopes Jacob's right. Zoey goes back to the bar, and Buck still
refuses to
give her a drink. Zoey asks why Buck thinks she's under age? Buck asks for
ID. Zoey
says it's in her back pocket, does Buck want to get it for her? Maybe I should
call the
cops instead, says Buck. Zoey says she hates to flirt and run, but takes off.

Angie sneaks up on Jacob, and says she has good news. Jacob says he can use
some.
Angie asks what's wrong. Jacob looks around and says "a little buyer's
remorse."
Angie says she hired Tony to look for Kayla's mom. Jacob's psyched at the
prospect
of spending more time with Angie. In the meantime, says Angie, I've hired Zoey
to be
an au pair of sorts. Jacob's skeptical of Zoey. Angie says he sounds about a
thousand
years old. Jacob says he feels that old. Angie says she's going to pay Zoey a
couple
of bucks and room and board to watch Kayla. Jacob asks if she's starting an
orphanage,
or what? Angie tries to placate him, saying it's temporary, and she can spend
more
time with him. Jacob's bummed. Angie asks why he's so evil? Jacob says he
has
concerns of his own, but they don't have time to talk about his stuff; Angie's
too busy
filling up her ark. Angie says that's not fair. Jacob says forget it. Angie
wants to
talk about it. Jacob tells her about talking Buck into hiring Nick, but he
thinks he made
a big mistake. Angie says "so tell him that you changed your mind." "She says
as she
glances at her watch," barks Jacob. Angie apologizes, and says she wants to
talk, but
this isn't the time. Jacob says the problem is, it's never the time or place.

Neighbors
---------
Nick's outside the bar, smoking a cigarette. He's drunk, and coughs a lot.
The elevator
opens, and [surprise!] Sydney's in it. Just the person I wanted to see, Nick
says.
Sydney's surprised he can see anything. Nick says he's celebrating; he just
got a job,
and she didn't even have to buy it for him. Sydney says that's a miracle.
Nick wants
to have a drink, but Syd turns him down. Nick says doesn't she even want to
know
where it is? Sydney says she's sure she'll read about it in the paper. "Or
hear it in
your bedroom," Nick says. "Downstairs?" Syd asks. "Looks like we're going to
be
neighbors," Nick says.

Now-she'll-REALLY-want-to-evict-them-hanger!
