The City-Update 11-15-96

Storyline: Four's a crowd

Carla and Danny see Tony and Ally half-clad. Carla asks if explanations
are in order or should she just jump to the nearest conclusion. Tony
tells her to jump wherever she wants. Tony says they were just developin
film. He was helping Ally. Carla says it looks like something else was
developing. "You should be careful with overexposure Ally, it's costly."
Ally goes back into the darkroom. As she starts to put on her pants,
Danny watches her. Tony asks Carla what she's doing there. She's
working for Danny, doing some financial work for Gen X. She's happy to
help him. "From the looks of things, he's going to need all the help he
can get from me."

Tony doesn't believe that Carla is giving Danny free financial advice.
Carla thinks Danny deserves to get what he wants out of life. They all
do. Danny pulls her away and says they should get started. As she goes
with Danny, she says to Tony that his fly is unzipped. They leave. Of
all the people to walk in on them...Ally says. Tony says it's not a big
deal. If they had walked in a few minutes earlier, it would have been,
he says. Ally says they aren't supposed to be doing... Doing what?, he
asks. This? He kisses her lips. This? He kisses her chin. This? He
kisses her neck. Yes...no...that's not what Ally means. What does she
mean? She loves him. They kiss.

Carla says they should have moved faster. Danny says they would have
interrupted them earlier and that's all. Not if he had spent his time
with Ally in the darkroom like he should have. Danny says Carla wedged
the door shut and he's supposed to know that's his cue to make a move on
her. Carla didn't know he needed instructions. "Ally is not the kind of
girl a guy just paws and jumps on in the dark." Carla says that depends
on the guy. Danny says especially when the guy is question happens to be
your husband. Carla tells him to shut up. Danny notes her jealousy.
Carla isn't giving up. Tony and Ally walk in. Tony is exasperated.
Carla says that Danny has four floor seats to the Knicks game and he's
invited them all. Ally says she doesn't know. She has work, but she'll
let him know. She kisses Tony goodbye and leaves. Danny leaves. Tony
tries to leave, but Carla doesn't let him.

Tony knows what Carla is thinking--it was stupid. They argue in the
background as the phone rings. Danny answers it. It's Joc. He says he
owes her a couple hundred favors, so shoot. She wants him to fax some-
thing to her from her desk. He'll just grab the extra set of keys and
let himself in. He hangs up, hands Carla a file, and leaves. Tony and
Carla argue. Anyone could ahve walked in and seen them. Anyone didn't
walk in. Only she and Danny did, Tony says. This time, Carla says. If
Tony keeps playing it fast and loose like that, he'll end up in jail so
fast he won't know what hit him. Tony says he's not staying away from
Ally. Carla says it's not just him and Ally. For better or for worse,
she's involved. Because of him she lives there, because of him she put
her life on hold and he goes and does something stupid. He didn't
intend... But, he did, she says. And he thinks she's selfish. This
time, it's all on him, she says.

Ally is showering. Danny lets himself into the apartment and looks for
the papers. He notices she's showering and smiles.

Carla thinks it's selfish to be with the woman he loves? When it puts
her future at risk, their family at risk, yes, she does. Carla isn't
trying to cause trouble. Tony tried staying away from Ally, but it
wasn't simple. Carla says it's not simple for any of them, including
Danny. Carla says they made a deal: for one year, they would try to
make the marriage work and he would try to stay away from Ally. Was 30
minutes in the darkroom worth it? The Feds are just waiting to catch
them together. Tony is sorry, not for being iwth Ally, but for not
being more careful. Carla is sorry too, she didn't mean to come down so
hard. Can she buy her husband lunch? Why not?, but if push comes to
shove, he's going to be with Ally. He asks Carla is she knows what it's
like to love someone like he loves Ally. Carla knows what it's like.

Danny goes into the bathroom where Ally is showering and watches her.

Storyline: Hope for the future

Tracey is talking on the phone. She says to Darrell that he's been
extremely patient. She only needs him to wait a little longer. The
check is being brought by messenger. She'll meet him at the Soho branch.
She hangs up and says, "Blood sucking bill collector!" Jacob is at the
door. She asks what the mysterious phone call was about. Making the
donation to the Quartermaine foundation. Tracey says the foundation is
in desperate need of donations. That's why Jacob is there. "Let's make
some dreams come true," he says. Tracey snatches the check and says he
is doing is really wonderful thing.

Tracey says it will help so many people. Jacob takes the check back and
says that's what he's counting on. Tracey asks if there's a problem.
There's a small string attached. Jacob wants to also donate him time,
get involved with the kids somehow. Tracey says she'll have her
secretary call him and asks if his phone number is on the check. No, he
will have to sign it over to her. She notes that it is made out to
Davif and Jacob Foster. She asks if he has to countersign. No. She
asks who David Foster is--a relative?

Tracey is glad they don't have to get hold of David for his signature.
She says it makes things easier. She asks who is David again, but is
interrupted by a rambunctious Dillon. He's home early. She forgot it
was a half day. Then he didn't need the lunch she packed for him. He
traded it for a baseball card. Reggie Jackson. Jacob says he's got a
keep business sense. They tlak cards for a minute. Jaoc says Reggie
jackson was David's favorite. Who's David?, Dillon asks. Jacob's son.
Can Dillon see his cards sometime? Sure. Can David play with Dillon?
No, David isn't here. It's kind of complicated. Tracey sends Dillon to
go wash up for lunch. Jacob says that David was his son, he was his
life.

Tracey didn't know about David. Jacob doesn't talk about him much, but
he thinks about him all the time. He was a little older than Dillon
when he died. Tracey asks if he was ill. Jacob says he was murdered. A
car bomb meant for Jacob. He has relived it in his mind so many times
wishing it was him in that car instead of having to stand there and watch
It would be so much easier to die on the spot than to stand there and
watch his wife and his son. Tracey can't imagine losing her family like
that. All the dreams, hope was just gone. Tracey is so sorry. Jacob
says David loved baseball. He knew everything there was to know about
Reggie Jackson. But, his mother wanted him to know about the rest of the
world, so he started a college fund for him, adding to it, little by
little, so they could offer him the world. He got the check on what
would have been David's 18th Birthday. It just brought everything back,
but he can't bring Theresa or David back, so it's time to just let go.
The check symbolizes all of the hope he had for his boy and he wants to
keep that hope alive by helping some other kid.

Storyline: Nick gets what he wants

Does Nick get his walking papers or is that another of Nurse MacPherson's
cruel jokes? Nick si a little sore around the suture but otherwise
feeling fine. The doctor says he's a free man. Zoey and Lorraine show
up and hear it. They celebrate. The doctor reminds him about his
appointment and tells him the nurse will give him his aftercare stuff.
He wishes him luck and good health. No more tubes or machines, Zoey says
No more getting his blood sucked out at 5 am by his little frient there,
Nicks says. Nurse MacPherson says he should face it, he's going to miss
her like crazy. Nick says he should give Richard a call and tell him the
news. Zoey says he's not home. He's taping a segment for Hotline. Nick
finishes, and he told her about their blowout. Zoey says they both said
a lot of things they both regret. Nick asks if Richard told her that.
Lorraine says that's exactly what being part of a family is. That's just
what Zoey told Richard. It's no big deal. Nick just wanted him there.
Lorraine will go call him and tell him Nick's getting out early. Nick
says to tell him he's made some decisions about what he's going to do
after he leaves the hospital.

Nick asked Richard to do some research for him, but he wouldn't do it.
Richard read him the riot act. Then Jacob came in and really let him
have it. That was after Lorraine tried to beat some sense into him. It
finally got through. When he gets out of there, he's not doing anything
but making up for lost time and counting his blessings. Lorraine and
Nick hug. Zoey tells him, "Cool move, Pop." Nick tells her to stick
with him. He's got a million of them. Zoey says Richard will be psyched

Lorraine says Nick tries her patience. Nick knows he seems ungrateful,
but he's really glad to be there with them. They kiss. Nurse MacPherson
walks in and says that's the number one sign that a patient is ready to
be released. Nick sighs, "Don't tell me you're here for more blood."
Would he deny her one of life's few pleasures? Lorraine is going to get
Zoey. The nurse hands him an envelope. He asks what it is--"care and
feeding of your new liver?" She says it's what he wanted--the list of
people in line for transplants. She's giving this to him because she
said some things she shouldn't have. She accused him of pulling strings.
She's usually more professional than that. Maybe this breach will make
up for it. Nick is just surprised she'd do this for him. Do what?, she
asks. "You didn't get anything from me." Nick says he'll miss the shots
in the dairy air. She'll miss him too. She wishes him luck and leaves,
telling him not to steal the sheets. Nick opens the envelope.

Lorraine finds Zoey pushing a wheelchair. Zoey tells her to hop in and
she'll give her the ride of her life. Lorraine hops in and Zoey wheels
her away. They round the corner by Nick's room and Lorraine screams as
Zoey turns into Nick's room too fast and the chair goes up on two wheels.
Nick says they're nuts as he puts the envelope into his bag. They tell
him to sit down. Zoey's going to drive? If Zoey drives, he's going to
need a heart transplant before he gets used to his new liver. Lorraine
will take his bag. No, he's got it. Zoey lets Lorraine wheel him out.
He's ready for the world.

Have a great weekend everyone. Barring any unforseen nervous breakdowns,
next week's update should be out on time.
