The City Update 10-11-96

Storyline: Part Ownership of Building

The City Bar--When Syd first gave tess this, she was sure it was another
eviction notic. Angie and Jacob thought this was a bomb. Zoey still
can't believe it. "We're shareholders," Richard says. Zoey has never
held a share of anything in her life. Angie says now they can do the
work on the clinic they wanted to. Buck says the bar can use some
spiffing up too. It definitely beats last year's gift, he says. "From
homeless to homeowner in less than a year," Zoey says. Richard tells
her not to let it make her too uptown. She won't move out of the neigh-
borhood, she'll buy it. Richard still can't quite believe it. It's a
bit daunting. Tess thought the same way, but the lawyer she spoke to
said it's rock solid legal. Richard says maybe Syd is mellowing in her
old age. Tess down't care if she's fermenting, she'd like to propose a
toast. Lorraine is about to take a glass of wine, but Buck pcks it up
and hands her some water. "To a woman who has caused us more problems
than the black plague, whom we'd all like to see dead, and who I give my
heartfelt thanks," Tess says. Danny walks up.

If they're toasting Syd's departure, next round is on Danny, but they'll
have to put it on his tab, he's a little short. Zoey says not for long.
How so? He didn't get Syd's little present? Ally Danny got was a swift
kick in the teeth. Nick says he's in good company, he and Richard didn't
get it either. Richard says he's been taken care of in other ways. Nick
is the one who shouldn't have been left out. Does someone want to tell
Danny what's going on here?

Danny is upset and confused. Syd gave them all shares in the building?
7 of them at least. 7% apiece. Richard says that comes to 49%. Zoey
says she loves him becuase he's so good at math. Richard thinks it's
an interesting figure. Syd stopped just short of making them majority
shareholders. 7% of something is better than 100% of nothing, Tess
says. A delivery person comes in and delivers a bigger box to Nick.
It's from Sydney. Tess says maybe she's giving him the other 51%.

Nick opens the package. It's a photo album. Tess says knowing Syd, she
probably has it filled with 8 x 10 glossies of herself. Lorraine says
adds with mustaches on them. Richard still says it's unfair that Syd
didn't give him a percentage of the building. Nick is used to living on
park benches. Tess and Buck check whether anyone is about to give birth,
then go to the rainbow room to celebrate. Zoey wants to see what's
inside the album. "It's a little baby boy," Zoey squeals. She realizes
it's Richard. He confirms. They're photos of Australia. He guesses
Syd kept track of him all these years. Nick says looks like he got his
gift after all. Richard says it's not worth 7% of the building. Nick
says it's worth a lot more than that. "Oh yea, Dad!" Richard jokes.
Angie asks why if Syd is leaving, why should she hold on to part of the
building? Why not just sell it? Jacob says maybe she gave the rest to
someone else. Lorraine says that someone has got to be a lot better
than Syd.

Storyline: Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Maria opens the door and Syd guesses that's it for a while. Maria says
Syd means forever. No, she wants Maria to visit her in London. Maria
will book a seat on the Concord. Syd will book it for her. Maria says
she doesn't have to do a thing. Syd's been very good to her. Maria's
the one who has been good to her. There aren't too many people in the
world Syd trusts and she's one of them. Maybe the only one. They hug.
They'll stay in touch. Maria will keep the 5th Ave place in shape.
Does Syd have everything? Yes. Tracey Quartermaine steps into the
doorway.

Tracey walks in. Syd tells her not to be shy, just to come right in.
Sweet of her to ask. Syd says goodbye to maria. She'll handle this.
Tracey doesn't know if she likes being referred to as "this" or being
"handled". What can Syd do for her? To begin with, she can be
courteous enough to return her phone calls. Syd's been very busy, she's
leaving for London. Tracey heard. She was going to ask her for a small
favor, but now that she sees the way she treats her friends, she's not
sure she wants to. Syd says being seated at the same table at a couple
of charity dinner doesn't make them friends. Syd is forgetful. Tracey
reminds her of the Stockwell deal, that cute little chain of television
stations. Syd remembers it. She and Jared bought it only to discover
that they were subject to an FCC investigation. Tracey was shocked. Syd
says Tracey was also sleeping with one of the commissioner. That was in
the past, they've wons ome, they've lost some, Tracey says. Syd says
that's about all they ahve in common. Not quite. When she was in
Switzerland, Tracey ran into a close pal of theirs, Malcolm Christopher.
Double scotches tend to loosen lips. He told her a very good story.
Syd would love to hear it, but she's going to miss her plane. Tracey
says she thinks Syd will take the taime to hear this. It's about gold,
hidden, in this building, now in Syd's possession, she believes. Tracey
asks if Syd reported her little stash to the IRS. Syd doesn't answer.
Tracey throws her head back in laughter (for those of you that don't
watch General Hospital, get used to the laugh). Syd asks if she's
trying to blackmail her. Tracey calls it an advance on their friendships

Syd wants to know what the deal is. Tracey needs money. Syd says her
family cut her off without a nickel. Syd researched her too. Tracey say
says it's a temporary situation. Syd has never heard of temporary
disinheritance before. It demands a temporary solution. A loan, Syd
asks. Tracey wants a gift. Syd tells her to dream on. Tracey says she
can afford a charitable donation. Syd makes a donation to the 100
neediest cases. Tracey has danced with Syd enough. Does she get the
money or does she spread the word about the gold in so many places, it'll
make her empire go off like the cheap rocket. If Syd doesn't? Tracey
never bluffs when she's holding the cards. This is a full house. They
banter. Syd says she's not going to give her money, but she's going to
give her something better.

What would Tracey want with this dump? That's Syd's final offer. 51% of
212 green st. take it or leave it. Tracey will leave it. The building
is with far more than any cash Syd could give her at the moment. Syd
needs the money to revitalize the business after Jared gutted it. They
can't have too many people asking questions. What is Tracey supposed to
do with it? Syd doesn't care. Sell it, burn it, wear it. Syd gives her
the keys and paperwork. How does Tracey kow it's not a phony. Syd
points out the name at the top. Jocelyn Brown. She's one of Syd's
attorney's. She lives on the 5th floor. Syd leaves, says give her love
to the tenants. What tenants? Goodbye and Good luck.

Outside. Syd is leaving. Jackson Montgomery gets out of a limo in front
of the bar and asks what's wrong. Nothing. Syd sent a limo all the way
to Pine Vally and she expects him to believe nothing's wrong? Why is he
here? She gives him the paperwork. She's giving the building away? She
feels generous. Did she get the papers he sent her? Yes. Did she read
them? Did she tells the lucky recipients of her generosity that there's
a million dollars of back taxes on the property? It slipped her mind.
Does she know that they will get thrown out on their ears when they
can't pay it? Details, details. Jack isn't sure he wants to know why
he's here. Syd says she's kidnapped someone. Jack says she should get
herself a really good lawyer. It's him and she's taking him to London.
Syd says she can't wait that long. She will have him back to Pine Valley
first thing Monday morning. This has been the year from hell. She wants
him to help her forget all about it. What are friends for, Jack says as
he kisses her. They get into the limo.

Storyline: One missing date, One extra date

Ally is dressed for a party. The phone rings. She lets the machine get
it. It's Tony, asking her to pick up if she's there. She flashes back
to seeing Tony and Carla hugging. She doesn't answer it. There's a
knock at the door. Ally opens the door and invites someone in. She's
glad he called.

Carla asks if Tony is still trying to reach his girlfriend. First of
all, it's dangerous. Tony reminds her that she says breathing is
dangerous. Carla says not her, the Feds. Second, dinner's not ready.
Gino will be there any minute. So will his date. She vaguely remembers.
Tony says she is a lot cooler about this than she was this morning.
Carla says she may have been overreacting. The doorbell rings. Carla
says Papa's here.

Carla opens the door and Gino gives her a flower. She kisses her cheeck.
She's glad he liked the idea of living dinner here. It was a very nice
thought of her and he thanks them both. Tony says it's almost ready.
Carla looks into the hallway and asks where his date is. Gino laughs.
he doesn't know. He could the hotel and they said she wasn't accepting
any phone calls. They didn't get into a fight, did they? No, the last
time he saw Sarah, everything was beautiful. Carla is sure she's just
getting herself all prettied up for him. He hopes that's the case. He
left a car just in case to wait for her at the hotel.

They are sitting down at the dinner table. Carla can't figure out what
happened. Carla says it's not that much past 8. Gino says it's past
8:30. She tells him to relax. Gino is just starting to worry about her.
The doorbell rings. Tony asnwers it. It's Joey and Ally.

Gino says with all due respect to Ally, he doesn't recall asking him to
bring a date. Ally starts to interrupt, but Gino cuts her off and tells
her to call him Uncle Gino. Ally says she can leave, if there's a
problem. Gino says there's no problem. Gino just wants everything, to
go right. He knows they have domestic problems here. Gino asks them to
all try to have a good time tonight. Tony is going to go turn down the
sauce. Ally is going to help him. Carla is sure she will. Gino tells
her to konck it off. Gino is sorry he yelled. He's just edgy. Carla
asks how well he's knows this woman. How long she means. Not really.
She was the first since her mother died that he really cared for.
Carla hopes he won't be too disappointed. Why should he be disappointed?

Ally insists nothing is wrong. She didn't call because she was out most
of the day. Tony says she must have gone home to change clothes. She
says she knew she would be seeing him soon. Plus, they shouldn't be
thinking on the phone so much. Tony doesn't believe her. He wants to
know what's wrong. She stopped by this morning and saw him hugging
Carla.

Tony wouldn't step on Carla, much less hold her. Ally was here. What
was she doing in the doorway? She had some really good news to share
with him. Tony cuts her off. He knows what happened. He wasn't holding
Carla. She was holding him. He doesn't have to explain. He wants to
explain. Carla was going on and on about his father, so he talked to her
he got through to her and she was hugging him. Ally is the whole world
to him. They kiss.
Gino is going to call his driver to find otu what's going on. Carla
has a feeling that Uncle Gino has been stood up. He thinks Carla
wouldn't mind that. The doorbell rings. Tracey is there. Carla opens
the door and says to her, "Well, some people can't take good advice."
Tracey is confused. Carla says she is making a big mistake. Tony
invites her in. They had just about given up on her. He tells Uncle
Gino she's here. Uncle Gino comes out and asks who she is. Tracey
says the bigger question is, who are all of them?

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!
