The City-Update-Friday, September 20, 1996

I did not use the usual Storyline format that I would normally use
because it got a little confusing and everyone basically touched on the
same subject at one time or another.

Molly and Danny are slow dancing and kissing. Molly doesn't want to
spend all night talking about the Masquerader. Danny asks her how it
would look if they didn't go. Sexy, Molly answers. Crazy, Danny says.
Molly tells him to call her crazy. "Okay, Crazy." Someone in the
building is trying to kill people and she could be next. Don't remind
her, Molly tells him. He's not trying to scare her. They just need to
konw everything there is to know. Danny says he'll meet her there. He's
going to go by and see if Syd is all right and then ask her for some
time off so he and Molly can get away. Just the two of them.

Alex tells Syd that all of the safeties on the elevator were disabled.
Syd was lucky it didn't crash to the ground with her on top of it, he
says. She knows. Why is she smiling? She's alive. For now, Alex says.
"Now's good," Syd says. Alex laughs a little, then tells Syd about the
buildingwide meeting. He wants her to go. Syd will pass. She's just
not worried anymore. Someone tried to kill her and she's not worried?
Syd says she has other plans.

Buck and Tess are watching people arrive for the meeting. Tess comments
that someone looks "furtive". Buck thinks he's just looking for a spot
to hang his coat. He's right. Richard walks up. He thanks Tess for
breaking Nick out. He's very happy to be home. Zoey walks up behind
Richard. Nick's home? Why didn't anyone tell her?, Zoey asks. Tess
tells her not to look at her. She turns to Richard. He says, "Thanks,
Tess," and walks away. Zoey watches him leave.

Ally invited everyone she could find. Joc says Alex called the detective
Tony says that's a good idea.

Carla is on the phone, complaining that she doesn't have a fax or a
modem. She's a virtual cavewoman with a neanderthal husband to prove it.
But, of course, she's happy. Marriage is bliss. She's even having an
incredible urge to attack her husband right now. She hangs up the phone
and finishes, "...with a hammer." She walks over to Ally and Tony
cuddling and scolds them snidely. The Feds could be watching. Ally
asks her if she has someplace to go. Tony tells her to feel free to
leave, take in a show, jump off a building. And miss the spooky tale of
the Masquerader?, she asks. Tony tells her it isn't a joke, people are
dead. Rebecca walks over and congratulates them. Carla says they're
happy. Carla knows who Rebecca is. Rebecca introduces Agent Smith,
who will be patrolling the building. Joc didn't know the Feds had been
called in. They called themselves in. They decided to help out. Ally
asks in what way. Smith says he is going to make sure everyone is
tucked into the right bed at night. Carla says isn't that nice.

Tony asks Rebecca what if he and his wife have a fight and he sleeps
someplace else. It's his call, until it's the Fed's call. Buck walks up
and asks if she has a minute. Two. They walk away.

Rebecca asks how he is. He says he's fine and asks her if she is there
as a gallery owner or a Federal agent. He knows. She's sorry, but it's
her job. Under different circumstances, she'd still be interested.
Buck has a personal life. It's Rebecca that doesn't know the difference.

Tony goes up to Carla and asks what she's doing there. Carla tells her
she lives there. Tess asks if they tore down Park Ave. Worse, Carla
says. She and Tony are married. Would Carla run that by her again?

Alex wants to start. Tony gets everyone's attention. Alex wants to
share what they know even thought the Masquerader could be among them
right now. Zoey asks why the name is Masquerader. It stemmed from a
note on jared, in a calendar: "What a masquerade!" Tony jumps in.
They think whoever is doing this, isn't who they appear to be. Molly
comments, "Like Azure?" Ally tells her, "Sh." Alex continues. They
all know about the accidents. They aren't going to recount them. They
are just going to go over some new information. One thing in particular:
the computer list. Tag-Tony's in. Whoever is doing it likes to make a
list of the victims. Tag-Alex. "Frist names only. It's almost as if
the Masquerader is very familiar with the people he terrorizes." Tag-
Tony. "Or he's too lazy to print out the last names." Tag-Alex.
Jared's name is on the list. Angie asked if that means he killed Jared.
It's possible, Alex says. Besides the obvious names, there are two
people on the list that don't live in the building--Mike, murdered in a
hotel room and Sandra, someone they haven't figured out yet. Alex asks
if anyone knows Sandra. No one answers. Close-up of Molly looking
nervous. Tony says the Masquerader has great skills: masonry, audio-
splicing, electronics, carpentry, even elevators. Tag-Alex. The
elevator didn't malfunction. It was sabotaged.

Sydney lets Danny in. Her bodyguard is a roadblock. That's the idea.
Danny wanted to come by earlier, but Richard was there and didn't want to
distrub them. Good decision, she says. he asks how she is. Fine. She
was just pushed down an elevator shaft, he reminds her. She survived,
like she always does. Danny likes his job, working for her, but he also
likes her and is glad she's all right. The point--he'd like a couple of
days off to take care of a personal matter. Not good. Right now is not
a good time. He just wants a day or two. Syd asks what is important
enough to jeopardize his job. Danny asks if that is what he's doing.
Syd asks what is so important and guesses Molly. They need to get away
for a little while. Danny tells her Molly quit the play. He asks if
Syd got her the job. Molly wanted a break and Syd arranged it for her.
Is that so horrible? Not if she let them in on it. Danny says she
walked out because she was humiliated. Syd says she walked out because
she couldn't cut it. She doesn't have what it takes, but Danny does.
Molly thinks Syd got her the part so she could spend time with him. Is
that what he thinks? He thinks Molly is very confused and frightened
and scared. He wants to spend time with her. Does he get the time off
or not? Okay, sure, take the time off, Syd says. Danny thanks her and
hopes she has resolved the problem with Richard. No, she didn't and she
doesn't think he'll ever forgiver her. Between that estrangement and
almost getting killed, she's decided to cut her losses. In what way?,
Danny asks. Syd is moving to London.

That seems a little extreem. London is just a plane flight away, Syd
says. And what about the business?, he asks. They already have a
thriving office there. Shouldn't she weight the benefits and liabilities
Syd says he's really getting the jargon. He'll help her work up some
numbers. Watch her back?, Syd asks. Sure, Danny says. Syd says he's
transparent. He's only looking out for himself, she tells him. Just
like she would, he says. The truth is he loves working for her and is
very excited about the magazines. She loved his ideas, but it won't be
cost efficient to keep the magazine going from London. She's going to
also have to trim the staff in NY.

In other words, Syd was set up, Alex says. Phony phone call, elevator
rigged, and then she was pushed. Tag-Tony. Don't forget Danny. Tag-
Alex. Danny saw someone in the stairway, dressed in black with some
kind of head gear on. He couldn't see their face. Alex knows that it
sounds weird, but asks if anyone has seen anything like that at all.
Angie says she has. She has had nightmares about the night Jared was
murdered. She keeps seeing a figure in the shadows, wearing a black cape
and hood. Zoey says they're not just nightmares. Angie continues.
They're more like flashbacks-like she's remembering the night she was
sleepwalking. Tony asks if it was a man or a woman. Angie can't tell,
but more and more seems to be coming back. Alex asks if anyone else has
anything to add. Nope. They have also compiled a list of phone calls
made in the building--mainly from the bar and the agency. They've
traced some of them. Tag-Tony. One's a penitentiary, there's a lot of
900 numbers, also some unusual numbers like for a domestic militia group
and one for Portland Pines, a mental hospital. Close-up of Molly, trying
not to be noticed.

Alex tells the Fed agent Smith will be patrolling the interior of the
building at night. That's about it. The group breaks up and starts
talking. Molly steals Carla's phone and sneaks out.

Zoey goes up to Richard. She asks why the crazy people can't just stay
in one state. Richard says that was one of the places Alex mentioned.
"Look, Richard," she says. Richard cuts her off, he's looking. She
touches him and moves closer. She knew he couldn't stay mad at her
forever. He back up. He's not mad at her, he's beyond mad. What does
that mean? He's walking away. It means that he doesn't feel much for
her or anyone else at the moment. He leaves.

Tess asks Ally what the deal with the menage a trois (sp). What is she
talking about? She talked to Carla. It's true? It's a really long
story and she doesn't really want to hear it, Ally says. Tess does, but
Ally has already walked away. Buck walks up. He didn't realize there
are so many strangers there. Tess says even the people they know are
getting strange. Buck doesn't believe that Carla is Tony's wife until
she walks up to them and asks where he is. She says, "Looks like my
darling husband has disappeared again."

Tony walks up behind Ally and scares her. He didn't mean to. He just
wants to hold her and kiss her. He does quickly. She wants to too,
but they're being watched by the Feds. Tony says that no matter what,
she is the one he loves. He kisses her quickly before leaving.

Jacob and Agnie are talking. Does she really think it was wise to talk
about her dreams in front of everyone? She was sharing information. But
with who?, Jacob asks. If the nut was there tonight, he's going to start
seeing her as a threat. She knows, but what if her input helps catch
him. They hug.

Joc says it went pretty well. Alex agrees. They're going to follow up
on those phone numbers, starting with Portland Pines. Joc says they're
getting closer. Does she think so? Jos knows so. Alex hopes so and
kisses her.

Syd is moving the base of operations to London. After all they talked
about and all the promises she made him, she'd just cut him out, just
like that? No, actually, she was just about to ask him to go with her.

Molly is talking to Tommy. They found the name Sandra on the list.
Tommy assures her that there are a million Sandras. They don't know
that's her real name. She tells him people are going to be coming around
and asking question. He doesn't know anything, does he understand her
and he has never heard of hte name Molly Mallone. No prob, he says. She
tells him to stop saying that. He tells her to calm down. She's his
friend and he won't betray her. Molly says she can't lose Danny, not
after...she breaks off. She just can't lose him, that's all. What is
she going to do? She's going to take Danny away.

Until next week...
