Update 9/13/96--happy Friday the 13th

Storyline: Sydney/Danny/Masquerader

Sydney is in the penthouse looking at a picture of Richard. Danny knocks
at the door. Is she okay? She was supposed to meet him at the agency
over an hour ago. Sydney is sorry. She didn't realize the time. Danny
thought something might have happened. No, she's alright. She doesn't
look alright. Sydney just doesn't feel like working today. Now Danny
knows something's wrong. Richard?, he asks. Sydney walks away. Danny
says he's not a bad listener. What does she have to lose. Sydney
relents. She says Ricahrd is never going to speak to her again and she
can't say she blames him. Why? When Sydney adopted Richard when his
parents died, she wasn't really adopting him. What was she doing? "I
was taking back my own son," Sydney says. Wait a minute...Danny says.
Sydney says, she and Nick were lovers and one day he was gone and she had
Richard and she gave him up for adoption. Danny is sure she did what she
had to do. She did, but she's been lying about it the rest of her life
and now Richard knows. And he's probably in shock, right?, Danny says.
He'll get over it. Danny's sure Ricahrd loves her and will bounce right
back. Maybe, but Sydney doesn't know if she will.

The Basement: Molly goes into the elevator box and splices into a couple
of wires.

Danny says she looks like Sydney, but doesn't act like her. The Sydney
Chase he knows would never be defeated so easily. Maybe he doesn't
really know her. He thinks he knows her pretty well. But, does he know
Debbie Tompkins? Who? Sydney says that's her real name. That's the
name her parents gave her in a little, tiny town in Indiana. She's
serious? Somehow he just can't see it. Neither can she. She just
couldn't breathe in that town. She left as soon as she graduated, moved
to NY, changed her name to Sydney, got a job, married Jarod Chase. She
just thought she could make it work. Danny can understand why she's
upset: she missed all those years of pancake breakfasts, screaming kids,
the out of shape husband that still wears his letterman jacket to the
construction site. He laughs. He makes it sound like real paradise. He
says it is compared to this dump. If she ever gets homesick, she can
just go down to the 5 and dime. Danny doesn't think they have those any-
more, but she could always buy herself a couple of moo-moos. Sydney
thanks him. Danny tells her to stop worrying. She wants her son back,
she'll get him back. Sydney thanks him again and tells him to wait right
there. He did her a favor and she's going to do him one.

Molly is using wire cutters to cut through a wire. She smiles and shuts
the door of the box. She goes into Bernardo's old room and put a tape in
the VCR. It's Richard doing a show for Hotline. She digs out her tape
recorder, sits down, and smiles.

Sydney comes back with a contract. Does he remember the meeting he had
with the media client of hers. Yes, he thinks went pretty well. He
doesn't have to convince Sydney. He still has a lot to learn, but he has
all the ingredients. Some people would say it is premature, but... She
hands him the contract. He skims it. It is about her magazine, Gen X.
It gives Danny total creative control. Danny thinks he had better learn
fast. He signs the contract. Sydney says his ideas are hot. "So are
you," Danny says and kisses her. The phone rings. Danny thanks her.
Sydney picks up the phone. "It's Richard...I've really got to see you...
in the Hotline studio...in just a few minutes." Sydney starts to talk,
but the dial tone comes on. She hangs up.

Molly, in hood, is in the stairwell. She sees Danny come out of Sydney's
room and hides. She pulls out the controls for the elevator that she
spliced. Danny waits for the elevator then decides to take the stairs.
Molly look upset.

Sydney is waiting for the elevator. Molly pushes a button and the doors
open up. Sydney sees that there is no elevator at the last second and
doesn't go in. That was close, she says. Molly comes up behind her and
pushes her in. Molly stand at the top, smiling.

Storyline: Father Knows Best

Richard walks into the chapel and sits down. He remembers Nick's advice
about Sydney.

Richard gets up and lights a candle. He stands there for a moment. How
can he forgive her?, he asks aloud before starting to walk out. He stops
and looks at his tape recorder.

Storyline: I do? (do I really have to?)

Ally's loft. Gino, Carla, and the human wall, Vito, walk in. Carla said
Gino could find Tony there. Let's go. Tony says they're early. His
watch is slow. Tony still has 10 more minutes. Gino says Tony sounds
like he's on death row. It feels pretty close. He doesn't want to be
late for his own wedding, does he? Tony takes Ally aside. Ally
reassures him. Tony asks her to wait there. He doesn't want to see it.
Carla notices the boxes and comments that it looks like someone is moving
Tony tells her it's none of her business. Everything about him is going
to be her business. Tony says nothing will ever be her business. All
Carla is saying is if he is thinking of making a quick getaway, be her
guest. That's enough. Let's get it over with. They leave. Ally stays
behind.

Tony's loft. Joey runs in late. The photographer is gonig to be here
any minute. Photographer? It needs to be documented. Gino says Carla
looks beautiful and tells Tony to get into something respectable.
Repeatable? he can't believe Carla is wearing white. It's better than
prison stripes, she says. Tony asks if she brought a veil so he won't
have to look at her. That's enough. They are going to have a nice
wedding if it kills them all, Gino says.

Ally answers the phone. It's Tony. Neither of them are okay. She
really hates to think about what he's doing. He tells her not to. He
says to think about how much he loves her and how nice it will be when
they live together. He hangs up. She continues to pack until she gets
to a red dress. She holds it up and walks away.

Tony sits down on the bed. Joey walked in at the tail end of the
conversation. Ally?, he asks. yeah. Tony says Joey has no idea how
much he hates this. Joey knows this is hurting Ally a lot. Tony asks
Joey not to tell their parents. He wants to tell them himself. Joey
promises. They hug. Tony starts to get dressed.

Gino asks Vito if he has the rings. Carla says not to worry about it.
She doesn't need it. Gino points out that they need a ring. Carla
produces a large one from her pocket. Gino asks if that's the Hope
Diamond. yes, she hopes Tony crawls out the window and falls five
flights. Who paid for it? She used her credit card. That means Gino
paid for it. It was $25,000. She's crazy. How could she do this? Any
one who knows her would know she wouldn't settle for anything less. Gino
says it goes back tomorrow morning. Carla says he wanted real, he got
real. What he got was a pain in the...wallet. Carla kisses him and says
thank you. Tony and Carla banter back and forth. Gino says he knows
they HAVE to get married, but why don't they stop complaining. They'll
learn to like it. That wasn't part of the deal, Tony says. Ally sneaks
into the back and goes upstairs. Gino brings them together and joins
their hands. Tony says Carla's hands are like ice. "Go to hell." And
spend the rest of eternity with her, forget about it, Tony says. Gino
tells him to show some respect. He tells the judge to begin. The
cameraman asks them to smile and everyone glares.

Danny walks in at "forever hold your peace." What's happening here?
Vito tells him to show some respect. They're getting married. They're
really going through with it? Sh. They go through the vows, enxchange
rings, from about halfway across the room. Tony refuses to wear a ring.
Judge pronounces them married and tells them to kiss. Carla rubs up
against him as Ally watches. He sees Ally.
