The City Update- 9/6/96

Storyline: Sydney/Danny

The agency: Sydney and Danny are kissing. Molly walks in, sees them,
and slips out without being noticed. She goes, crying into the hallway
asking how Danny could do this to her.

Back in the agency. Danny is sorry. He can't do this.

Danny says he shouldn't have done that. It's alright. No, it's not.
That's how they got into trouble the last time. She understands. Danny
doesn't. What is it with the two of them? Sydney says she was upset
and he tried to comfort her. He asks if it's a problem with business.
No, it's Richard. She's lost him. What does she mean? She means she
thinks she's lost her son--forever.

How did she hurt Richard? It was a long time ago, Sydney says. She
doesn't want to go into the detail but the point is she has spent the
vast majority of her adult life trying to make things up to her son.
Now, it's all exploded. Danny tells her things have a way of working
themselves out. This won't, Sydney says. They have spent a lot of time
together and Danny has seen a side of Sydney that no one else has. Sure,
she's a shrewd businesswoman, but she's also clever and funny and sexy
as hell. He knows they said it was going to be strictly business, but
he would be lying to her if he said he wasn't attracted to her. Sydney
says, If that were true, she's puzzled, what is he doing with Molly
Mallone?

He cares about Molly. She's good and sweet. Sydney says she would be
perfect for someone just like her, but that isn't him. He isn't the
white picket fence type. He is like Sydney--he wants it all, she says.
No reason why he can't have it all, he says. "Not with Miss Molly
Mallone home making biscuits," Sydney says. She makes it sound as if
Molly has no ambition, she's a great actress. There are about 10,000
terrific actresses in NY, all of them waiting tables. But Molly just
booked a Broadway part, he says. Sydney doesn't think Molly has what it
takes to make in this town and in his heart, she doesn't think he does
either. He doesn't agree with her. She'll drag him down. He tells
Sydney that he will do whatever it takes to succeed outside of hurting
Molly. All Sydney is suggesting is that he take a good, hard look at
the relationship. She stood by him. he owes her? That's a great basis
for a relationship, Sydney says. Things don't just roll off Molly's
back, Danny says. She's vulnerable and he's going to protect her. Like
he would a little child? Sydney asks him. Molly's a woman, he tells her
"Molly is a girl," Sydney says, but maybe that's what he wants. Danny
walks out.

Storyline: Ally/Tony

Ally and Tony walk into Tony's loft. "Okay, so if you delete something
in a computer, it's not really deleted. The police can go in anytime
and pull out what you erased?" Ally asks. That's what they say, Tony
says. If the police retrieve the file, they might be able to catch this
freak. Tony says they should just hope they catch the freak before any-
one else gets killed. ally says they should pull out the surveilance
tapes and find the masquerader. Tony knew he hired her for her smarts.
The phone rings. Ally tells him to answer it. Tony has a cryptic
conversation. He hasn't changed his mind. He can't. He hangs up.
That's was the Feds. They're ready to go ahead with the charges against
Carla.

Tony has a week to produce the tapes. If he doesn't or refuses to
testify, he goes to jail. Ally says there has to be something they can
come up with besdies him marrying Carla to get him out of this. Tony
says they could kill her. Ally says that would only take care of it for
a day. They would be after Uncle Gino tomorrow. Tony was joking. So
was Ally (although she didn't sound like it). Molly walks in. Can Ally
talk? Can it wait? She and Tony are having a personal problem. As if
she and Tony are the only ones with personal problems. She starts to
leave. Ally tells her to wait, but Molly tells her to just talk to Tony
before storming out.

Tony and Ally are checking out the footage. Ally is sorry she brought up
marrying Carla. He tells Ally not to be sorry because it's not going to
happen. He's not marrying her. Ally is the one person in the world that
makes him happy. As they kiss a fox comes in. "It's Tyler!" Ally
exclaims. She is happy until she finds out it is not from Stephanie.
Attached is a note: "Soleito - what's it going to be? A wedding in
Brooklyn or a funeral in France?"

Ally doesn't believe this. They are actually tracking her son in Paris?
She asks Tony if they will kill Tyler if they don't get what they want.

Storyline: Nick's illness

Hospital Waiting Room: Lorraine tells Richard Nick is going to be fine.
Angie walks up. Nick just went under. They're going to start. Isn't
Angie going to be there, Lorraine asks. Angie is going to assist.
Angie tells them they gave Nick some more blood. Hopefully that will be
enough to build his strength up. What does he mean, hopefully, Richard
asks. They can't give any guarantees. All they can do is pray. Angie
tells Lorraine to have faith, but admits that Nick is critical. She
leaves.

Zoey walks up to Richard. She asks if Nick is okay. He tells her they
haven't started yet. He thought they agreed for her to stay home until
he called her. She didn't come there to fight with him. Nick needs her,
even if he doesn't know it. And so does Richard, she says. This is
where she belongs and she's not going anywhere.

Did Richard tell him that he's Nick's son? No. "No, you didn't because
you were trying to protect him," Zoey says, "That's what people do when
they love each other." Richard doesn't want to talk about it right now.
Zoey says, Nick will survivie. He's been through worse. He'll be able
to tell him. Richard is trying to believe that.

Lorraine is pacing and crying. Jacob walks up. She's trying to stay
calm, but she's a mess. She has a bad feeling she just can't shake.
She's going to lose him. Lorraine cries on Jacob's shoulder.

"What are you smirking about?" Richard asks Zoey. She was remembering
the first tome she met Nick Rivers. "He was butt-naked." Zoey reminds
him that he gave Nick the key to Sydney's penthouse and he showed up to
the party with nothing on but a guitar. Richard laughs. Richard
remembers when he had too much to drink one night and tried to punch him
out over Father Luke. He ducked and Richard fell over. He fell on his
face. Zoey giggles. "This isn't right," Richard says. What? It
sounds like they're eulogizing him and he's not dead. Zoey tells him
that the nuns used to say, "God doesn't give people anything they can't
handle." What's that supposed to mean? Zoey couldn't handle it if Nick
died and she doesn't think Richard could either, so if it's true...

Lorraine and Jacob go into Nick's hospital room. She tells him Nick
isn't going to come back. Jacob says coming back is Nick's trademark.
A little while ago she was telling Nick everything was fine. She's
grateful for the time they have together. She was lying to herself.
She wants him back. They all do, Jacob says. He's so good to her,
Lorraine says. They're so right together. She starts crying. When
she thinks about him gone, she jsut wants to die (I think that's what she
said, it was difficult to understand through sobs). Jacob says she needs
to find the strong-willed woman he knows is inside her. He tells her to
sit down. He gives her headphones and presses play on a walkman. She
listens to a tape of Nick's concert. Jacob asks her if that sounds like
a man "about to check out".

Nick sounds pretty strong. Jacob is right--Maybe Nick will pull through
Lorraine thanks Jacob. Don't thank him. They go to the waiting room so
she can be the first to see Nick.

Zoey is sorry. She was stupid not to tell Richard that he is Sydney's
and Nick's son. She feels awful. She hates herself. She asks Richard
to forgive her. A lot of people are hurting and they ahve to move on
with the healing, Zoey says. Richard is quiet. He's never going to
forgive her, is he? Lorraine and Jacob arrive. Have they heard anything
Jacob asks. Angie walks in. Zoey thinks that it means thingss aren't as
bad as she thought. Angie is sorry.

Storyline: Masquerader

Molly's loft. She walks in crying. She puts the tea kettle on. She
can't believe he kissed that woman. She can't believe it. She calls her
mother. (talking to her mother) "I had the most awful day. I quit the
show because I found out Sydney got me the part... Why do you think? So
she can get her claws into Danny...I know. I know. I should have
listened to you...I tried to talk to Tony and Ally about it, but they
were too busy to even care...Nobody cares...I know...I know you do, Mom..
I have tried and tried, but I don't feel like I fit in anywhere. I feel
so lost and so alone.

"I know. I know, but it's not enough. No matter how hard I try it all
goes wrong. It all turns bad." The tea kettle whistles. She asksher
mother to hold on and puts the phone on the bed. The operator is one the
line saying if she would like to make a call, hang up and try again. The
busy signal sounds. Molly comes back. "Hi, Mom. I'm back. I'm sorry..
No, I already tried that...I tried to hurt everyone who was happy when I
wasn't, but it didn't help...It was a stupid idea, Mom...No, I'm not
blaming you..it's just not enough to taunt them. You don't get their
attention that way...No, I know what I have to do...Don't try to talk me
out of it..." Molly puts the phone on the bed. She has to show them she
means business. She opesn her bag and pulls out a black cape. "The one
who likes bsiness the most will be first. And next time, it will be more
than just a little blood on her robe." She's going to make Sydney Chase
pay. She puts the hood up and stares out the window.
