Here's the Thursday update.... sorry it's so late, but real life intervened.

I'm entering a plea for someone to take over Thursday updates for the next
few weeks; I can do this week (May 30), but I won't be able to do any in
June, or the first 2 weeks of July. In fact, if someone wants to take over
Thursday altogether, I'll start doing Wednesday when my life calms down
some. Any takers? Anyway, without further ado...

THURSDAY, MAY 23, 1996 in the City:

GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER... EVERYONE!
=========================================
Zoey and Richard return to 212 Greene from a taping. Zoey is distracted.
Richard wants to know if it's something he did. Zoey tells him no, he was
a real pro. Richard wonders what's wrong, then. Zoey doesn't trust him
to behave himself during their dinner with Father Luke. Richard promises
to be a perfect gentleman. Zoey assures him that Luke is the right man
for her. Then, Richard says, I will bow out gracefully if that's the case.
Zoey apologizes again.  Richard promises her they'll get through the dinner;
it'll be like a Noel Coward play. Richard thinks the dinner will be just
him, Luke, Zoey, and Nick.

In fact, Lorraine is making jambalaya for the dinner party of 12. Nick and
Lorraine talk about Nick's nervousness; he doesn't know how to be a father.
Lorraine has dinner under control. Nick's not looking forward to dinner, and
hopes there are no more surprises. Richard shows up to talk to Nick about
Luke. Nick tells him he knows nothing about the guy. Richard presses; she's
your daughter, didn't she say anything? Nick assures him that he wouldn't
know the guy if he came up and bit him on the butt. They commiserate about
women, much to Lorraine's chagrin. Richard tells him that Zoey has been on
his case all day to behave himself. Will you? asks Nick. Well, I wouldn't
punch a priest, says Richard, but it will be hard not to tell him that I'm
better for Zoey than he is. Lorraine interjects that better and worse have
nothing to do with love, take it from an expert. Richard leaves. Lorraine
realizes that Richard has no clue how many people will be at the party.
Nick is highly amused by this.  Lorraine wonders why he didn't warn Richard;
Nick says he wants to stay out of it and let Zoey and Richard work it out.
Lorraine tells him he's already in it. "Being Zoey's father is enough, I
don't need another kid already," Nick says. He assures Lorraine that Richard
will deal. Lorraine accuses him of copping out. Nick says he has enough
love problems of his own, and he doesn't need theirs. Lorraine points out
that they have a lot in common (besides alcoholism); they both came to NYC,
fell for someone, and ended up with nothing. "I wouldn't say that," says
Nick. "There's no one else here," says Lorraine nervously. Nick moves in
for the smooch. "What was that?" asks Lorraine. "If you have to ask, I
didn't do it right," smooths Nick. Lorraine assures him that he did it right.
Nick says he's been wanting to do that for awhile. "What kept you?" asks
Lorraine. They suck face for awhile, but then decide to "let it simmer" for
awhile...

Meanwhile, Molly hustles Ally out of the apartment, ostensibly to concentrate
on an audition piece. Molly asks Ally if she's going to Buck's party, but
Ally and Tony have other plans. A guy shows up to "rehearse" with Molly.
Ally leaves. Molly tells him to take off his shirt... so she can put the
priest's collar on him. Yes, this is George, Molly's actor friend, soon to
be AKA Father Luke. George wonders why an ex-priest would wear a collar.
Good question, says Molly, but Zoey wanted it this way. Speak of the devil,
Zoey shows up. The actor introduces himself to her as George. "NO," says
Zoey, "Luke!" They verify the backstory... they knew each other as children
at the orphanage. Zoey tells him to call her Mary Katherine, then decides
that's too formal, and they settle on Kathy. She tells him to act offbeat,
like someone she'd be attracted to, not like a saint. He promises to act
just like Warren Beatty in "Splendor in the Grass." George's beeper goes
off, and he goes to call his agent. Molly tries to talk Zoey out of this
plan -- can't she just tell Richard she doesn't love him anymore? I tried
that, says Zoey, he didn't believe me. That's the reason for this whole
story. Molly wonders why she has to do it in front of a bunch of people.
So Richard won't interrogate him, says Zoey. The party is a big distraction
so Richard can't put him in the hot seat. George comes back, and tells the
women that the call waiting beeped in; it was someone from the city building
inspector's office for Ally. They talk more about their "past;" George says
it reminds him of "The Thorn Birds." Zoey tells him that's where she got the
story, and makes him promise not to mention that title at the party. Don't
worry, George says, I have a handle on the character; Richard is about to
meet the definitive Father Luke. George waits for the elevator, while Zoey
goes back in to talk to Molly. The elevator door opens, and George gets on --
with Richard. They make small talk. Richard asks if he's a new tenant.
George says he's an actor, so he couldn't afford a closet in this place.
He's here working, and it's a really weird gig...

IT MUST BE SOMETHING ABOUT THE BOYS' APARTMENT...
=================================================
... because Tony and Danny both have the stupids. Tony is poring over the
blueprints, when Danny comes downstairs. He knows someone has been messing
around in his room. Tony hides the blueprints. They bicker; Danny can't
wait to make it big and move out of this "frat house." He leaves for a
business meeting (see below). Tony pulls out a file on Jared Chase. Ally
shows up.  They decide they can start looking around in the agency tonight;
everyone will be upstairs at Buck's. They peruse the plans, trying to figure
out how to unobtrusively get behind Tess' wall. The phone rings; it's the
building inspector's secretary, calling for Ally. She says Ally doesn't have
the most updated blueprints; would she like to look at an updated copy? Ally
and Tony decide they would like to, and agree to meet her at 9:00. Tony
wonders why she wants to meet so late. Ally says her car broke down, and
Ally said they'd give her a lift. Tony points out that they don't have a
car, but he's willing to spring for cab fare to get those blueprints. Ally
thinks it's kind of weird that a call came in right then for her, at Tony's
place; it's like someone is on their side. "Here's to the building inspector,"
Tony toasts, failing to find anything suspicious about a NYC bureaucrat call-
ing a neighbor looking for Ally, and wanting to meet late at night to give
them something out of the goodness of her heart...

...which is apparently exactly what Jared wanted. He's on the phone in his
office, saying he doesn't care how it's done, and he doesn't need to know the
details; he just wants Tony and Ally taken care of, tonight. Joey Saleito
shows up with papers for Jared to sign. Jared asks if he knows anything
about the deal. Joey says he doesn't stick his nose where it doesn't belong.
Jared thinks that's a good policy. He signs the papers. Joey nervously tells
Jared that the rumors about Pauly deFranco turned out to be just that, rumors;
he apologizes for making a big deal over nothing. Jared says it's being
handled. But there's no problem, Joey stammers. Then you have nothing to
worry about, assures Jared. Joey doesn't look reassured. Jared promises
that everything is okay, and he'll be in touch. Joey leaves. The phone rings
again; everything is all set for the ambush of Tony and Ally. Jared is glad,
and tells the person on the phone to see to it that it's the last time they
have to set a trap for Tony and Ally...

While Jared is setting up Tony, Sydney is at work on Danny. She tells Danny
to talk fast, Jared could be back any second. Danny assures her that he paid
their friends back the money. Sydney is impressed that he came up with the
cash so fast. It was no problem to get it, says Danny, the trick is paying
it back. You'll cover it, right? After a long pause, Sydney tells him she
thinks she's found a way to get some money out without Jared noticing.
Dany tells her time is of the essence. Sydney goes all gushy that he put
himself in danger for her. Danny boasts that he's been in worse. Sydney
fawns all over him, calling him a hero, and saying he keeps his word, which
is rare these days. Danny suggests she tell it to his father. Syd decides
that his father is insecure, and must feel threatened by Danny. He warms to
that idea. Sydney thanks him again for paying her friends back, and says that
should get Jared off her back for awhile. Danny goes to leave. Sydney says
not many people would risk their lives for others (Tyler Alden, her), and
assures him that he IS heroic. Danny gets all modest. Syd gives him a kiss
on the cheek, and he leaves. "My hero," Sydney says sarcastically. She goes
to the desk and makes a call to a hotel; she reserves a room under the name
of "Mrs. Daniel Roberts."

That's it for this week... see you, um, in about 3 days.
