Greetings! Back-up updater Karin bringing you the update for "The City"
Friday, May 3, 1996.

Our storylines today:
	Ally and Tony
	Alex and Jocelyn
	Zoey and Richard
	Jared and Sydney

Ally and Tony
Ally wants to pretend to be a hooker to trap Malcolm. Tony says no way.
Ally says she can wear a wire. Tony wants to know what happens when she
has to get naked, the wire is exposed, and she ends up dead and dumped
in the East River.

Ally accuses Tony of sounding like her grandmother. Ally is sure she can
fool Malcolm long enough to get information, then she'll give Tony a signal
and he can bust through the door in his white hat and save the day. Tony
wants to know what movie she's been watching to come up with that idea.
Ally: I'm sure I can do it.
Tony: Like hell you can.
Ally: I can.
Tony: Very familiar words.
Ally: Excuse me?
Tony: Isn't that what Casey said to you right before he wound up dead?

Ally says that was a cheap shot. Tony apologizes. He's trying to get
her to understand how dangerous it is. He reminds her of all the stuff
that's happened in the building (the beating, bomb going off, etc.). She
thought he wanted to bust Malcolm and Jared. He does, but not at the risk
of losing Ally. They continue to argue back and forth. He says it sounds
like she has a personal vendetta against Malcolm. She says that she does.
She hates him for what he's done to Jocelyn. She is sure that if Malcolm
had stayed away, Jocelyn wouldn't have started turning tricks again. Tony
isn't so sure. He is sure that this isn't the way. Even his brother Joey
is afraid of Malcolm and Jared.

Ally wants to know wy Tony makes everything sound like a Godfather movie.
Tony: Why? Because my family *is* a Godfather movie. Joey is Sonny
Corleone. He breaks heads for a living. And he's afraid of these guys.
Am I making sense here? I think so.
Ally: Tony...
Tony: I want to put Malcolm and Jared behind bars, but not like this.
Promise me you won't do anything stupid behind my back.
Ally promises, but it's too easy. She didn't like being called naive and
stupid. She tells Tony to get back to work and she leaves.

Ally storms into her apartment grumbling about Tony. She spies the red
wig. "You are going to thank me, Tony. You'll see."

Alex and Jocelyn

Alex and Jocelyn are hiking to Alex's favorite camping site. Alex is
carrying everything. They come to a clearing where a tent is set up.
Jocelyn laughs.

Jocelyn isn't thrilled about the tent. Alex mentions an old movie "The
Enchanged Cottage". Jocelyn says there is only one problem, it's not
a cottage. It's a tent. It's a tent for mice. Alex says that it's a
cozy tent. Jocelyn agrees cozy, but enchanted? She wants to know when
he started watching old movies. He says back in Corinth with the most
beautiful redhead he'd ever seen. They talk about when things started.
Jocelyn wishes they could go back and start over again. Alex says they
can. That's why he brought her there.

Alex and Jocelyn go fishing for dinner. Jocelyn is very much the city girl.
Alex is expanding her horizons. Jocelyn realizes that she knows very
little about Alex's early years and he knows *all* about her dark, disgusting
secrets. Jocelyn says her family looked perfect from the outside, but on
the inside.... Alex says most families do. His was the opposite. His mom
died when he was a little boy. His dad died when he was a teenager. He's
been pretty much on his own since then. But, his memories are good. He
felt loved. Jocelyn wishes she could relate and hopes it's not too late.
They snuggle, and then head to the water's edge.

No fish for Alex and Jocelyn. They start a campfire and raid the cooler
that Ally packed.

Dinner is over. It's starting to rain. Time for dessert --> marshmallows.
Alex says that he can't come back to this spot without her. She thanks
him for bringing her up here.
Joc: How long can we stay?
Alex: As long as you'd like.
Joc: 1998?
Alex: I love 1998 and I love you.
Joc: Oh, Alex. I love you too. I love you so much.

Zoey and Richard

Zoey and Richard are at the Clinic. Zoey says she has personal news for
Richard, there's someone else.
Rich: You're joking.
Zoey: Am not. I'm sorry.
Richard thinks Sydney or Nick put her up to this. She denies it. He
tries to kiss her and/or hold her. She won't let him touch her.

Richard pushes Zoey for details. She lies badly about a guy named Luke.
They met at the orphanage. He went to Germany to study. He had a religious
conversion and decided to become a priest (strange since we were *so* in
love). He couldn't live without her. Couldn't find her when he came back
until he saw her on "Hotline". She really tried with Richard, but she
always knew something was missing.

Richard doesn't believe any of it. He wants to know why he hadn't ever
heard about this guy. He strikes back and verbally hits her with everything
that he's done for her -- found her mom, found her dad. Zoey's hurting.
Zoey: It's the hardest thing I've ever done. It never would have
worked. It's over. I'm sorry. Just accept it.
Rich: I thought we had something special. Guess I was wrong. Stupid.
He wishes her well and leaves.

Jared and Sydney

Jared enters the Penthouse. He remembers a conversation between Nick and
Richard about Sydney dumping Jared as soon as all her ducks are in a row.
Jared calls out for Sydney. She's not in. Jared gives Maria (the maid)
the rest of the night off.

Sydney returns home.
Jared: Hello, love. I've been waiting for you. (He's sipping brandy.)
Sydney: How sweet and yet unappealing.
Sydney gives Jared the news that Zoey didn't tell Richard about Nick being
his father too. Sydney is upset because she's just seen her son's heart
broken in two.

Jared harasses Sydney about "motherly love". He harasses her about Nick.
He wonders how many other children Nick has floating around. Sydney is
pissed. They spar verbally. Jared pushes her about Nick, and pushes her...
...how does she really feel? She finally tells him that all men were
his rivals, not just Nick, any man but Jared. She asks him to leave. He
says he hasn't finished his drink. She calls for Maria to call the police.
Jared informs her that he sent Maria home. Time to spend some Quality Time
together.

Sydney says she's not going to spend time with Jared, quality or otherwise.
He forces her down onto the couch.
Sydney: What do you think you're doing?
Jared: Something I should have done the very first night I came back.

CLIFFHANGER!
