Today in "the city":

Zoey calls the bar, looking for Nick. Richard hangs up the phone,
and yells at her. She says he might be her father!

in the bar, Sydney asks Nick if he left a message on her answering
machine. Yes, he needs a favor. She tells him to get help; if he
thinks that she's gonna do him a favor, he's sick.

Alex, on the phone in his apartment/office asks Ally, in her
apartment if she knows where Jocelyn is. No, Ally says. Alex
says after last night, she could be anywhere. Ally tells Alex
that she just came in and she hangs up the phone. Ally and
Jocelyn talk. Ally asks where was she. Jocelyn says that she
was out walking, all night. She stopped for coffee a few times,
but she just walked. Ally says this is New York City, she
could have gotten killed. Jocelyn says she knows where she is,
she grew up here. Meanwhile, Alex tells Tony he was right about
Jocelyn and Malcolm. Tony's sorry that he had to hear it from him.
Meanwhile, Ally says that Alex stopped in last night, didn't he?
Yes, Jocelyn says. Does he know? Ally asks. About Malcolm? Jocelyn
asks, Yes. What about him? Ally asks. What was she gonna say?
Jocelyn asks; that Malcolm Christoper was just another John?

Who's Malcolm Christopher? Ally asks. Some jerk that works for Chase International. When Sydney introduced them at the party, imagine
their surprise when she introduced the new lawyer for the company.
Malcolm wanted to get reacquainted. He threatened to tell everyone.
She could see the headlines in the Post, "Lawyer by Day, Hooker by
Night". But, Jocelyn says, she got some dirt on him, and he's gone
now. She couldn't tell Alex, and she couldn't tell him that Malcolm
had to *pay* for it. She can't believe that this is her life.

Alex says that Jocelyn didn't want to talk about Malcolm, so he
didn't want to talk about her. He says he doesn't want to talk about
her now either and if he mentions her name, he wants Tony to slug him.
Tony agrees. Alex talk abotu her, but doesn't mention her name. He
stops himself and wonders why Tony didn't slug him. Well, Tony says,
technically, he didn't mention her name. Alex wants to get on with
the call girl ring. He wants a real office, he wants to get out of
the building. Maybe there is another reason Alex wants to get out of
the building. What? Jocelyn, Tony offers. They weren't gonna talk
about her. No, they need to talk about her.

When did Nick come back? Zoey asks. 1976, she answers. When did her
mother get pregnant? she asks. 1976, she answers. Richard says that
there could be any number of men...what? Now her mother's a slut?
Richard says she knows how much he cares, he's just afraid she'll
get hurt if she jumps into this.

In the bar, Nick wants to help update the acoustics in the bar. So?
Sydney asks. They need money up front. They want to impress the
producer with the sound in the bar, and if they don't...well, he's
sunk.

Why should she grant his favor when he wouldn't grant her? Sydney
asks. That's different, Nick says. A favor is a favor, Sydney
says. It's not that he turned her down, she says, it's the way he
turned her down. Mr. Morals. He doesn't get it, Nick says. If she
doesn't want Jared, why doesn't she just get rid of him? they own a
multi-national corporation, it's not that easy. Looks easy to him,
Nick says. It's not just Jared, she has a child. He's 22, Nick says;
she adopted him when he was a teenager. Sydney says Richard's more
like his father...his real father, that is, not Jared, she adds.
Someone comes over to talk to Nick. he tells her to say hello to
her son next time she sees him. She mumbles as he leaves and says
our son, Nick, our son.

Zoey just wants to find out what happened. Richard tells her that
if she's gonna confront him, be tackful. So she's not tackful? He
wants her to be careful. He's just worried that if Nick doesn't
react the right way... He remembers how she took it when she found
out her mother was dead. He's so lucky,Zoey says, he knows who his
parents were. He knows why he's good at basketball, he knows who he
looks like.

Ally tells Jocelyn that she was mad and upset when she first found
out about it. Cause, Ally continues, all she could think about was
what was going on behind Alex's back. And now? Jocelyn says. She's
seen how she's fought this, Ally tells her friend. Ally says she
is on her side, she knows that's hard to accept. Jocelyn cries.
Ally asks what's wrong. This is the first time she's had hope, Jocelyn
says. She had a session, and she got in touch with the child she
used to be. She had a flash, something happened. She doesn't know
what it was. But, it was because of that she started to turn tricks.
It's not that she's a terrible person. No, she's *NOT* a terrible
person, Ally reinforces. Jocelyn says that Alex doesn't know that
she's a hooker, and if he found out, she's probably kill herslef.
Ally tells her not to talk like that.

Alex says they're gonna call the Madam again and this time, Alex
is gonna wear a wire. And they're gonna get enough evidense to tie
Malcolm up in it, too. They talk about why Malcolm would use call
girls. Alex says maybe he has needs only a professional can satisfy.
Tony says maybe he's right. He's looking at a piece of paper. He
crumples it up, and it misses the basket. But this time, Tony says,
when he calls the Madam, insist that he get the redhead that Malcolm
always uses.

Nick comes back to Sydney and says his fate is in her hands. They
need to start now if they're to make it by the concert. She signs
the work order, if only cause he's being so charming. She suggests
a song for the concert. Zoey enters the bar and goes up to Nick.
She needs to ask him some questions.

Ally calls Jocelyn's doctor. She tell sthe doctor that she's
worried about jocelyn, and thanks the doctor for the short notice
appointment. They have an appointment, Ally says. Jocelyn says
Ally doesn't have to go. When her friend talks about suicide, Ally
says, she worries. Jocelyn says that she's too tired to commit
suicide. Ally says okay, she'll just see her to the cab. Jocelyn
just wants to take a nap, she'll see the doctor tomorrow. Ally
talks her into going to the doctor. She takes Jocelyn out to the
cab.

Alex makes an appointment with the Madam to use the same redhead
that Malcolm Christopher uses. Alex repeats the name, and says
Malcolm recommended her highly. He tells Tony that the Madam will
call and confirm. Tony says that maybe Alex shouldn't meet the
redhead Malcolm usually uses. What's the whole point of making
the appointment then? Alex asks. No, Tony thinks that he should
go. Outside, Ally remembers Jocelyn saying that if Alex ever
found out that she turned tricks, she's comitt suicide.

So-when-the-Madam-calls-will-Ally-turn-a-trick-hanger?
