Today on "the city":

Jocelyn is on the phone and she tells someone that she
is not calling to get her old job back. She'll take that
as a complement, but she likes being a lawyer better
than being a call girl. She finds out it was her madam
that Tony got the call book from.

Meanwhile, Alex finds another call from Malcolm. He
wonders if Jocelyn knew about this. Tony wonders if
his wife knew. You like to one woman, Tony says, you
lie to all of them.

Jacob tells Angie that he's got a great idea, let's
(kiss kiss), go back to bed. They just got engaged, Jacob
continues, and they deserve it. 45 minutes? Jacob offers.
Angie says let's make it an hour. Hi, Angie, Kayla says.

Nick stirs in bed. It's ALIVE! Sydney says. He wouldn't
go that far, he says. she brings in some coffee. Nick
thanks her, for lots of things. She thanks him for
understanding about Jared. He's been dead for about
18 months, she says. She never ceases to amaze him. And,
she says, she hopes she never does.

Nick says that now that he knows Jared is dead, he'll
have to stop seing her. His reputation for stealing
women away from their husbands will be ruined. Sydney
says she has her reputation for good taste to think
about. Is she saying he doesn't taste good? Nick kids
her. She didn't say that, Sydney says. They joke about
the love song he's suppose to be writing. When will
she hear it? Not on that thing, he says (meaning the
replacement guitar). He wants to get his hands on the
SOB who bought his guitar. Is he sorry he pawned the
Gibson? Sydney asks. He wouldn't be here if he hadn't.
That's not an answer, Sydney says. No, he wouldn't
have changed anything, Nick says.

Buck runs into (literally) Jocelyn. She says she's fine,
she just needs coffee. Decaf, Buck suggests. Molly
comes in and says she needs coffee, and she doesn't
want decaf.

Kayla says she doesn't feel good, her tummy hurts. Jacob offers ice cream. Good, she says. Angie catches on and
tells her to go lie down. No ice cream? Kayla says. No,
no ice cream, Angie says.

Alex and Tony are talking about Malcolm and how Alex will
be happy when he can't bother Jocelyn any more. Tony says
it's good that he's keeping a professional distance from
this case. There is a noise, and we see Jocelyn picking
up the silverware she dropped.

Jocelyn says she was trying to surprise Alex for breakfast,
he likes french toast, doesn't he? Yes, Alex says. She
invites Tony to stay, but Tony has a breakfast meeting
with his brother, Joey. Jocelyn said she didn't think
they were that close. Yeah, Tony says, like Clinton and
Newt. Tony leaves. Jocelyn spills something on Alex, who
says he has another pair of pants, and he goes to change.
Jocelyn riffles the desk.

Nick says he likes Jared more now that he's dead. Sydney
says that she respected Jared, not like a father/daughter,
more like a mentor/student. But, towards the end, that
was gone, too. And she kept his ashes, Nick says...well,
Sydney says, she wanted to show Jared, even when he was
dead, that she had what it took to make it in the business.
Sometimes, she felt that he could see her. Meanwhile, as
Sydney and Nick are laughing about it, Jared *is* watching
them.

Angie tells Jacob that Kayla *might* be sick. Jacob says
that she is not sick, Angie just wants to spend time with
her. Jacob tells her that she has to stop this. Angie says
she is not stopping anyone from adopting Kayla. Jacob says
he is going to take Kayla back to school. The prospective
adoptive parents come in to talk to Angie about Kayla.

At breakfast at the bar, Joey tells Tony that Uncle Geno
wants to give Tony a job. Tony says that he loves Uncle
Geno and everyone in his family, but he doesn't want
anything to do with the family business. Molly comes
over and Tony asks if she's working for them today, or
for the agency. The agency, she says, maybe him on
Friday. Joey appologizes for Tony's lack of manners and
tries to introduce himself to Molly. Molly says that she
met him at Tony's party. Joey says that he would remember
meeting someone as beautiful as her. Molly leaves and
Joey says wonderful girl. Tony says they all are; that's
the reason that he's staying.

Sydney asks if Nick is gonna tell anyone that Jared is
dead. No, if he went around saying she keeps her husband's
ashes in the bedroom, he'd be in the looney bin. Well,
she says, the ashes are not here. Tess has them. Nick
laughs. She's glad he thinks blackmail is funny. That's
why Sydney has been hanging around with Tess, she says.
The date of his death is on the urn. She can't have it
come out she's covered up his death for a year and a half.
Well, as long as there are no other surprises. Just one
more, Sydney says, getting up.

Alex, coming back into the room, tells Jocelyn she is a
very bad girl. He has so much work to do and she comes in
to distract him. She says she has to be on a conference
call right now. What? he says, she just came down to
torment him? No, she says, to feed him. Sadly, she says
she never figured she would find a man like him. Is she
okay? Alex asks. Yeah, she sighs. She kisses him, and
leaves with another sigh. In the hallway, she tears pages
out of the book she took (ed. note: won't he notice the
paper in the hall?).

Tony's brother tells him to get up. What? Get UP! Joey
says that he's just looking out for his little brother.
What is he talking about? Tony asks. Joey turns to leave.
If Tony ever changes his mind about living here, Joey
says, let him know. What is he warning him about? Tony
asks again. Joey says that things happen, even to nice
people.

The prospective adoption people took some pictures of
Kayla from her visit to the farm. They realized they
wanted to see her again, but they realize she's in
school. Angie said Kayla wasn't feeling good, so she's
home. Jacob comes in and says that Kayla's better, and
he was gonna take her back to school, but he doesn't
see why she couldn't play hookey for the rest of the day.
Angie says if she's feelling better, she should go back
to school, and Angie ushers Kayla out and back to school,
leaving the parents and Jacob open mouthed.

Joey is on the phone with someone saying that even
though his brother is still living there, he'll do the
job. No, he'll do it! Really, he'll go the job.

Sydney tells Nick to meet the SOB who bought his guitar.
He said he told her not to do that. She says she knows.
She gives him the Gibson. Meanwhile, Jared is watching.
