JACOB WRITES A NEW SONG: ANGIE SINGS THE SAME OLD ONE
=====================================================
Jacob's sitting in his loft writing a song, perhaps because he's as sick of
the same old song and dance he and Angie are doing as I am. Angie gets back
from taking Kayla to the farm. Kayla had a good time at the farm, in spite
of her insistence that she'll hate it, and is spending the night with Zoey
(Where? On the street? In the clinic? Where does Zoey live?). Angie's
tired. Jacob asks her about the couple, the Hamptons I believe, and says
they seemed nice. Angie's more hesitant (surprise, surprise); she thought
they seemed put-on and phony.

Jacob tells Angie she's doing it again. Angie knows. Jacob says that she
has to stop thinking of prospective parents as a threat. Angie knows she
should be happy for Kayla, but it hurts to give her up. But she has to think
about Kayla. Jacob observes that if Kayla sees Angie balking, she'll work
that angle. Angie blows up that Kayla's only a child, but then apologizes
and says she doesn't know how to stop acting this way. She's been thinking
about what Jacob said, that this probably all started when she found out she
couldn't have any more children; even though she hadn't planned to have any
more, she got depressed. Then Kayla came into her life, and despite the fact
that she was armed, her presence eased Angie's depression. She knew it was
only temporary, but in her mind she never saw it ending. Angie wants a family,
but feels guilty for wanting one, because having Jacob should be enough for
her. Angie sobs and apologizes a lot. Jacob tells her not to apologize for
loving, and holds her.

Jacob tells Angie that she's given him joy, with her love - all this Kayla
stuff doesn't matter. Angie sniffles about how sweet, great, loving,
supportive, and sexy he is. Jacob stands up and says he has a surprise for
her...

DATING IN SOHO, '90s STYLE
==========================
(This was all sort of run together; hence, no separation of storylines)
At the agency, Molly is typing away. Danny approaches and is impressed with
how fast she is, presumably hoping that she's fast at things other than typing.
Molly's edgy, and blames it on too much caffeine. Danny has to go get things
ready for their big date. Molly is excited and nervous, and babbles on and
on about what to wear, etc. Danny tells her not to wear anything...special.
After he leaves, Molly laments to Azure that she can never shut up when she's
nervous, and asks Azure to teach her to be silent and mysterious. Azure says
she has the opposite problem; she can never think of a thing to say, and she
has a date tonight, too. They disagree about which conversational style men
like better, but agree that Azure will teach Molly the virtues of silence, and
Molly will teach Azure to be "interesting and adorable."

Ally and Danny run into each other on the stairs. He brags about his big date.
They do their usual you're-jealous-no-I'm-not dance, and Ally says she has a
date, too, though she doesn't mention that it's with Tony. They bicker some
more, but then inexplicably agree that they're both getting on with their lives.
Ally heads upstairs; Danny looks longingly after her.

There's a knock on Ally's door; it's Tony, wanting to cook dinner there because
Danny doesn't have the requisite kitchen supplies (why doesn't Tony have them,
he lives there too?). Ally suggests they eat at her place. Tony inexplicably
doesn't mention that they can't eat there because it's not just going to be
them, and says that he doesn't want to get in Jocelyn's way if she comes home.
(Is Jocelyn paying rent these days?) Tony's making lasagna. Ally offers to
help; he gives her salad duty. Ally comments that Tony bought a ton of food.
Tony finally says "you know about Danny and Molly right?" Ally says yes, she
knows they're dating, and she doesn't care, still not cluing into the fact that
Tony's referring to their imminent dinner.

Bernardo shows up at Danny's place; Danny called him up to install dimmer
switches on his lights, so that he can create the proper ambiance for his big
date. Bernardo's pissed that Danny called him up there and said it was a big
emergency so he could have mood lighting. Danny brags about his big date.
Bernardo's not impressed. Danny pleads with him, saying that his place looks
like the Astrodome. Bernardo says for 50 bucks, he'll do what he can before
his big date with Azure. Danny's shocked, then skeptical, that Azure would
go out with Bernardo. Bernardo doesn't appreciate Danny's appraisal of himself
vs. Azure, and starts to leave, but Danny apologizes. Danny asks what Bernardo
thinks about Molly; should Danny get her flowers, or what? Bernardo suggests
that Danny get her a gun, to defend herself from Danny. Danny says he's going
to set the mood and wait for her to make the first move. Bernardo hopes Danny
brought a book...

... Meanwhile, Molly babbles about her babbling problem while Azure does Molly's
hair. Azure wishes she had that problem. Molly observes that it doesn't sound
like Azure goes out much. Azure says she's shy. Molly says she's gorgeous.
Molly advises Azure that if she can't think of anything to say, to tell her life
story.  Azure says she can't do that.  Molly suggests Azure practice on her;
tell her all about her life before she became Azure C. Azure looks
uncomfortable, and apparently whatever she told Molly during the commercial
break was uninteresting, because Molly thinks there has to be more to it than
that; she thinks Azure is censoring her story quite a bit. Azure says she's
just dull. Molly says no, she's mysterious. Molly decides to work the "woman
of mystery" angle for herself, too.

Bernardo tells Danny that he's taking Azure to the graffiti exhibit at MOMA.
Danny suggests he just take her to the Bronx. Bernardo says then he'll take
her to a coffee shop. Danny's appalled by that idea, until he realizes that
Bernardo means a coffee *bar*, which is apparently a very important distinction
(about $3 difference for a cup of coffee, in fact). Danny used to work in a
coffee bar, and declares that they're the singles bars of the future. He
always wanted to own one. Bernardo says there are already too many (and from
the number of Starbucks I've seen lately, I've got to agree). Danny has a
new angle; he wants to open a coffee bar in the agency, so people could sip
coffee and watch the runway action (he didn't mention who's putting in the
runway). It'll be like a Fashion Cafe, Soho style. Bernardo asks where he's
going to get the money. Danny hasn't figured that out yet (how about from that
national jock itch commercial?), but he knows it'll be expensive. Bernardo
suggests hitting going-out-of-business sales; that's how he's going to get the
equipment to open up his print shop to print his greeting cards. Bernardo
finishes up, and Danny pays him. Bernardo asks what Danny's cooking. Danny
mentions that Tony's doing it. Classy, Bernardo says.

Tony and Ally are working on the lasagna, with gravy, which he spills all over
Ally. Ally thanks him, not for ruining her dress, but for the fun she's having.
She loves to cook, and hasn't done it since Casey died. Cooking is also one
of Tony's favorite activities, and he says even Steffi was starting to like it.
Ally was always jealous of them, and the fun they had together. Tony says she
could have cooked with them. Ally had wanted Steffi to set her up with Tony's
brother, thinking he might be like Tony. Tony's horrified at that notion, and
says he and his brother are worlds apart. Ally thinks that's too bad, because
she was hoping there was another Tony out there.  Tony says she could do better;
he apparently wasn't enough for Steffi. Ally says they have to get past this.
Ally has an idea; whenever she mentions Casey, she has to put $1 in the pasta
box, and Tony has to put in $1 whenever he mentions Steffi. Tony says he'll
put in $2 whenever he mentions Steffi... but what are they going to do with
all that money?

Azure and Bernardo run into each other in the hallway. Bernardo is nonplussed
by how great she looks, and wonders what a beautiful woman like her is doing
with him. Azure says he's nice and sweet. Bernardo says she just described
your average cocker spaniel. Azure starts going on about reincarnation and
believing in past lives, and says that's how she feels when she's with Bernardo,
like she knew him before, in a different life. Bernardo looks confused,
perhaps coming to the conclusion that the reason she can't get a date is that
she's nuts.

Ally and Tony bring the food to the guys' apartment. Danny says he has to set
the table. Ally finally buys a vowel and realizes that Danny and Molly will
be attending the same dinner as Ally and Tony. Tony notices the new mood
lighting. Danny's still getting over his surprise that Ally is Tony's date.
Ally's still getting over her surprise that they're having dinner with Danny
and Molly. She asks why Tony didn't tell her; Tony says he thought she knew.
Molly arrives with a choice of red or white wine. Danny comments that they'll
be needing both. Molly's psyched to see Ally and Tony, and that dinner will be
just the four of them, so she won't have to meet and chat with a bunch of
strangers. "Yeah... it's gonna be a blast," says Ally.

Dinner-party-from-hell-hanger!
