Zoey is on the phone, telling someone that Dr. Hubbard has actually
taken in a dozen little white girls for her research to discover whether
rhythm is an innate trait or... Angie takes the phone from her and
hangs it up. TPTB anticipate viewer reaction by having Zoey marvel
at the fact that one little article in one little paper could cause so
much uproar. Later, a social worker (SW) arrives. Angie sends
Zoey to get Kayla from school. She tries to explain about the
article, that it was supposed to be about the clinic and the reporter
took a conversation out of context and blew it out of proportion.
Since the article came out, there have been calls from white people
who want to adopt Kayla. Angie thinks it+s too soon - SW
wonders too soon for who - Angie or Kayla. She reminds Angie
that the point of foster parenting is to temporarily take care of
a kid until they can be adopted. Angie worries that the adoptive
parents want to adopt her out of fear, not love. (The article had
mentioned that Kayla is in a racially imbalanced home). Kayla
arrives with a picture she drew of herself and Angie with the
words "to Mom love Kayla". Kayla says if she could pick a mom,
she+d pick Angie. Angie is touched and hugs her, and then sends
Kayla with Zoey to get some cookies. Angie worries about the
attachment and SW says thats why it+s best to get her adopted as
soon as possible, before she becomes more attached. Angie tells SW
to schedule a meeting with the prospective parents. SW suggests
that Angie prepare Kayla.

Frank is out videotaping the city+s bad parts - abandoned areas, piles
of garbage, homeless.

Bernardo asks Azure to see a graffiti exhibit at MOMA. Before she could
answer Tess come in with a bunch of flowers. They+re from a rich guy,
JP Gramercy, a gorgeous real estate mogul. Bernardo looks unhappy.
Later, Azure is arranging the flowers in the vase, Tess comes in and
tells her she probably got the cover. She says she gives Azure a year
before the magazine covers and flowers from millionaires become old
hat. Tess leaves and Bernardo comes in. Azure asks him about going
to the exhibit - he can+t, he has this thing with his brother, maybe some
other time.

In the bar, Nick is bummed and talking to Jacob about not being signed.
Jacob encourages to stay sober and keep trying. Nick asks Jacob about
the Village Voice article, Jacob doesn+t want to discuss it. Nick bitches
about Sydney, then asks for a drink. Jacob: French Roast or Columbian?
Nick: Ya know what I like about you Jacob? I can+t think of a damn
thing. Nick raises his coffee to Sydney and strike three. Later, Jacob
tells Nick to think of it as a temporary setback. Nick: At least I have
my health. Nick gets up to leave, Jacob worries that he+s going to drink.
Nick assures him that he isn+t, but he+s running out of reasons to stay
sober.

Sidney is bitching at everyone - Jocelyn, Samuel, Richard. (Best line: to
Richard "Don+t you have some reputation you can go ruin - the morning
is half over already". Tess arrives to tell Sydney she wants the cover
of Trend magazine (which is like Vogue and is owned by Sydney). Sydney:
Putting you on the cover of Trend would be like putting Barbara Bush on
the cover of Playboy. Tess informs her that it+s Azure she wants on the
cover. Syd passes, Tess insists, Sydney will think about it. Tess wants
Syd to get them tickets to see Victor, Victoria. Syd would rather buy
Tess a bus ticket to hell. Richard arrives during this exchange. Tess
wants to do dinner later, Syd can+t - her kitchen shelves need relining.
Tess tells her not to be a bad girl, you know what happens to bad girls.
She also tells her to think about the cover and leaves. Richard+s interest
is piqued by the friendship. Tess says she+s thinking about the cover only
because Azure is becoming a "Hot property". Syd plays Mother and tells
Richard he and Azure would look good together. She notes that his
dates usually look like they charge by the hour. She encourages him to
leave, he gives her a kiss and does, Sydney calls for her car, she needs
to get out. Syd and Nick run into each other at the elevator. They have
an awkward, polite exchange - she caught his show, he was good. He
asks how her meeting went. She says later, the elevator goes on, he
mutters "Much later."
