Subject: Friday update 11/18/94
Status: R

Ok, I am at work today. but I will be gone tomorrow.

Here is the Another World update for Friday, November 18,
1994:

* Bay City paper has Grant & Amanda wedding article -
EVERYone reacts!
* Trent loses his cohort in crime, goes into business for
himself
* Evan loses his edge, his cousin, maybe his marbles
* Josie and Ian decide to try again
* Ryan has it all figured out (almost)
* Vicky hopes Ryan will forget the past
* Grant lets his ego control his life (surprise, surprise)
* Carl feels guilty but keeps silent
* Rachel feels guilty about nothing
* Amanda probably still thinks she's getting married

Donna/Vicky/KirkMark/Matt

Vicky comes over to Donna's, with Kirk and a ton of baby
stuff. She wants to leave the kid with Donna tonight, she
has plans. Put these bottles in the fridge, she quips, and
don't let Matthew have any. Don't insult my fiance if you
expect a favor, Donna replies. Matt comes home and
surprises Donna with her favorite perfume. Donna tells him
Vicky wants them to babysit. Not tonight, he answers. He
starts to call Paulina, she'd love to keep Mark. Vicky
stops him - it's not her baby, she says. He's not yours,
either, says Matt. She argues that Paulina has enough to
worry about with Amanda's injury and taking care of Alli.
I'm worried about Amanda, too, says Matt, why is it o.k. to
leave Mark with me but not with Paulina? Donna wheedles
about how cute Mark is, it's just one night, etc. Matt is
suspicious but gives in, and takes the baby up to give him a
bath. Vicky tells Donna she's meeting Ryan tonight, and
she's sure he's ready to come back to her. She shows Donna
some sexy black lingerie she hopes will help her seduce
Ryan. Donna doesn't want her to get her hopes up, and
predicts it won't work (based on personal experience) - your
best tool is the truth, come clean about everything and beg
him to forgive you. Vicky won't listen, she's sure they're
on the brink of a reconciliation. She exits to find Ryan
[see below]; "She just doesn't get it," Donna says to
herself. Hearing Vicky leave, Matt comes down with "Mark."
Donna suggests he go to Amanda's wedding, he doesn't have to
babysit. He tells her Amanda wants a private ceremony, he
sent her white roses from the two of them, and he's having
fun with the baby. Seeing them together, Donna again
expresses regret that he won't have children of his own if
he marries her, and he'll regret it, too, eventually. He
assures her he'll be happy being Uncle Matt or Grandpa Matt,
Donna's the only "baby" he needs - and he doesn't want to
wait another 6 months to marry her, he wants them to get
married right away.

Evan/Trent/Josie

Trent needles Evan about the wedding announcement (w/ photo)
in the newspaper, trying to get him to change his mind about
folding their operation. Evan insists it's over, and gives
Trent a large severance check to buy his silence. Trent
threatens to spill the beans, and Evan promises that if he
does, Evan will make sure they have adjoining cells. Trent
leaves, none too happy. In the elevator on the way down, he
calls Grant and tells him he has info about Amanda and Evan,
let's talk before the wedding [see below]. Josie arrives in
response to Evan's message; he tells her he's selling the
agency and leaving town. She thinks it's because he's been
having an affair with Amanda. He tells her he may have
wanted that, but Amanda was faithful to Grant. He assures
her she'll have a great career without him, he can't stay
because things are so complicated, and he apologizes for
messing up things between Josie and Ian. Josie finally gets
a clue, and asks about all the stuff Ian had told her about
Evan's dirty dealings. It's all true, Evan admits, setting
up the Harbor Club, trying to get Ian thrown in jail,
everything. He wanted Ian out of the way because he was
getting too suspicious. Josie is livid, remembering how she
had defended Evan to Ian. Don't worry, I'm leaving town, he
answers, I'll never interfere with your or anyone else's
life again. What if it's too late, she snaps. He promises
to be there if she ever needs him (she scoffs at this), and
says he's made arrangements so she'll always be provided
for. She tells him she wants no part of his money or his
apologies, and yells at him to stay out of her life. She
storms out, hurt and betrayed. After the elevator doors
close, Evan whispers, "I'm sorry."

Later, he's seen packing up his things. He tosses the
newspaper with the wedding article into his briefcase and
snaps it shut. Then he crosses the darkened room to the
window. As he gazes into the night, he whispers, "Don't do
it, Amanda."

Grant/Spence/Trent/Ryan

Spence comes over to Grant's to stand up for him at his
wedding. He wonders about Grant's old suspicions that
Amanda was having an affair with Evan. Old news, says
Grant. Are you sure you want to marry her? Spence repeats,
do you really trust her, or do you just think it's the right
thing to do? The phone rings; it's Trent [see above].
Spence asks about the call, but Grant just tells him
something came up, he has a quick meeting before they head
for the hospital. Spence urges Grant to make sure he's
marrying Amanda for the right reasons, he doesn't want a
repeat of Grant's first marriage.  The doorbell rings;
Spence leaves to make some phone calls in the other room so
Grant can have some privacy. Grant lets Trent in - make it
fast, I'm about to get married. I don't think so, says
Trent, not after I tell you about Amanda and Evan. He hands
Grant a file several inches thick which he claims contains
hard evidence. Grant suspects Evan put him up to this, but
Trent lets him know that he and Evan have dissolved their
association over "ethical [excuse me?] differences." Evan
gave me a large severance check, says Trent, so I wouldn't
trash him, but I wanted to clear up a few things before I
left town. Evan and Amanda have been having an affair for
months behind your back, he continues, and as soon as Amanda
recovers they'll just pick up where they left off - they
used to laugh at you in Evan's private love nest above his
office; if you don't want to ruin your career with a
scandal, read the file before you marry her. Grant snarls
at him to take his filthy lies and get out, he'll have him
disbarred if he ever tries to spread this trash again. But
after Trent leaves, Grant sits at his desk and imagines
Amanda laughing and calling him a fool. He flashes back to
various other times when he had been suspicious of them,
including her asking about Evan from her hospital bed. He
picks up the picture of them and stares at it, then he turns
it face down on his desk.

Carl/Rachel/Ryan/Amanda

As Amanda sits alone in her hospital room reading the
wedding article in the paper, Rachel is out in the lobby
with Ryan. She tells him they're still waiting for Amanda's
MRI results. Carl approaches, and overhears Ryan telling
Rachel that Evan just "confessed" to accidentally puncturing
his own brake lines, so the investigation is over. Rachel
doesn't buy it. Carl joins them, and Ryan suggests that
pursuing the matter would only upset Amanda; Carl agrees.
Rachel goes to check on Amanda, and Ryan tells Carl
accusingly that he'd incriminate him if he could. Ryan
exits, and goes to the Harbor Club to see Ian [see below].
Rachel returns, and wonders to Carl if she should tell
Amanda about Evan's dubious confession. Carl convinces her
to wait until Amanda is stronger. They burst into Amanda's
room, singing and dancing a fanfare to cheer her up, and
announce that they've made all the arrangements: as soon as
she can be released, they'll bring her home and she can have
her physical therapy there rather than at a rehab center.
Carl's even flying in an ex-Rangers trainer from New York to
be her therapist. Amanda sets them straight, she's not
going home with them, she's going home with Grant after
their wedding today in the hospital. The wedding plans are
news to them, which is news to Amanda [it was in all the
papers...]. They suggest it may be better to wait, but she
tells them it's all set, she and Grant agree it's best this
way, for them as well as for Alli. The phone rings; Amanda
answers it, and hands it to Rachel: it's John, he has my MRI
results, but I want to concentrate on my wedding. Rachel
talks to John, then leaves Carl to keep Amanda company while
she goes to meet John to go over the results.

Later, Matt and Donna's roses arrive; Carl puts them in
water. Rachel returns with good news: Amanda doesn't need
surgery, which means she has a better chance for a full
recovery. John may be optimistic, but Amanda doesn't want
to get her hopes up, she may never walk again. Despite
Rachel's doubts about the wedding, Amanda asks her to stand
up for her (no pun intended); she invites Carl, too. They
accept, and go home to get Alli ready and bring her back.

As they arrive home, they are talking about how unexcited
Amanda seemed about their news. Rachel wonders if she could
have handled things butter, but Carl assures her that her
love and support for her children are inspiration. Rachel
insists she was right to be honest about Amanda's prognosis
- "She needs to know the truth, to begin the healing
process," she says [ironic, huh?]. She goes up to get Alli
ready, and Carl stands before the mirror and flashes back to
Ryan's earlier accusation: if Carl's guilty, and if he can
look at Rachel's eyes, and at Amanda in her hospital bed and
still live with himself, then Ryan doesn't want to know him.

Ian/Ryan/Vicky/Josie

Ryan finds Ian at the Harbor Club, and tells him that the
D.A. dropped the investigation into the club's alleged
illegal gambling for lack of evidence - but they still have
no way to implicate Evan. Ryan also confides that he's sure
Carl ordered the hit on Evan and that Ito carried it out;
but they can't figure out why Evan would cover for Carl -
guilt? blackmail? Ian suggests that the law isn't the only
way to punish Carl - what if Rachel were to find out that
Carl was responsible for almost killing her daughter?
Hmmmm?

Later, Ian tries calling Josie's number but gets her
machine. He leaves a message, he wants to see her but he
knows she probably doesn't want to see him so forget it.
Vicky, who has been looking for Ryan all over town [see
above], tracks him to the Harbor Club but Ian tells her he
just left. Vicky gets a brainstorm, and arranges with Ian
to rent out the whole club for a private party tonight,
money is no object, just make it romantic. Ian is happy to
oblige. She leaves, and he picks up the phone again - then
puts it back down and stares at it ruefully. He doesn't see
Josie enter behind him. Ian, she says - long time, no see.
She apologizes for taking Evan's word over his and letting
it come between them [now that Evan confessed all]. He
tells her not to blame herself, he himself was secretive
about working for Ryan to investigate Evan. She tells him
she loves him and asks if they can start over. Sounds good
to me, he tells her, and they kiss.

Ryan/Spence/Vicky

Ryan tracks down Spence at Grant's house, and tells him that
he, Ian and their club are in the clear, but don't ask any
questions. Spence tells him he's going to the hospital for
Grant's wedding. The phone rings, Spence answers it and
hands it to Ryan: it's Vicky. She tells him she's been
thinking about their conversation the other night, it was
going so well until Jake interrupted. She asks if he's free
for dinner tonight (don't dress up, nothing special, she
tells him), and he agrees to meet her at the Harbor Club.
Don't ask, he tells Spence, shaking his head as he hangs up.
Vicky, on the other hand, is jubilant. Underscored by Mary
Chapin Carpenter's "I Feel Lucky," she gets ready: into and
out of the shower, she stumbles in reading the newspaper,
finds her horoscope, then her eyes bug out as she sees the
picture of Grant and Amanda, which she covers up with a sexy
photo of Ryan from her desk; she does her hair, nails, make-
up, perfume, pours herself into stockings, heels, lingerie
and dress. As the song ends, she comments, "He'll never
know what hit him," and she exits.

Later, Ryan walks into the deserted restaurant like a lamb
to slaughter. As he takes in the soft music, candlelight
and finery, he's floored when the lights come up on Vicky,
lying seductively on the bar with a glass of champagne. The
whole place is ours, she purrs, let's get the evening
started.

Grant/Amanda

The showdown comes, but Amanda doesn't see it coming. She
lies alone in her room, and says to herself, I hope this is
the right decision. A shadow passes across her, and she
looks up to see Grant standing over her. Did anyone tell
you my news, she asks. Yes, Amanda, he says coldly, they
most certainly did. She looks quizzical at the edge in his
voice. He just stares at her in silence. FREEZE FRAME.

As ever,

Vicky (vkorosei@midas.sinclair.edu)
