I'LL GIVE YOU A RING SOMETIME

Vicky's house - Jake is busy cleaning and decorating in preparation
for the return of Vicky, Steven and Kirkland. They surprise him by
arriving hours early. Happily reunited, Jake suggests it's time he and
Vicky resume their wedding plans. Vicky sends the kids off to school,
then she and Jake discuss the nuptials. They consider eloping so Donna
can't make it into a big production, then Vicky suggests they can elope
right here at home, nobody knows she's back yet. They can't seem to agree
on the specifics, but finally agree to get new rings instead of using the
old ones from the day of Kirk's accident. They happily anticipate
finally fulfilling their childhood pledge to each other, carved on the
tree in Lassiter - Jake and Vicky, Forever.

Carlinos - Meanwhile, Shane visits Paulina, trying to get info on
Vicky's return date. Paulina, being Jake's friend as well as Shane's,
tells Shane to leave her out of the middle of it and just accept Vicky and
Jake as a couple. Shane, changing the subject, presses her again to name
her pill supplier. Paulina gets upset and tells him she can't. She
admits she's torn about what's the right thing to do - she can't talk to
Joe or Josie about it, because then it becomes police business. Shane
assures her he's there for her, he knows she'll make the right choice.
She's not so sure [see below].

Jewelry store - Shane goes shopping for a present for Vicky, and gets
waited on by a flaky salesgirl. He picks out a tiny gold whistle on a
chain, symbolizing that if she ever needs him, all she has to do is put
her lips together and... He asks the clerk to giftwrap it, then turns and
sees Vicky in the doorway. They greet awkwardly, their eyes locked. He
asks about Kirk, then says he's here to buy a gift. Vicky says she's here
for wedding rings. The clerk returns and shows Vicky a selection of
rings, then exits to get another tray. While she's gone, Jake enters with
Kirk, none too pleased to see Shane. Vicky shows Jake the rings, while
Kirk greets Shane; Shane wants Kirk to drop by the hospital in a few days
for a check-up. To Jake's dismay, Kirk invites Shane to their party -
Jake explains they've been discussing a Halloween/engagement party. Kirk
wants to shop for decorations, and Vicky sends Jake and Kirk on ahead.
She assures Shane he doesn't have to attend. Wouldn't miss it, he grins
smugly. He hangs around to look at rings with Vicky. The clerk finds a
nice band for Vicky, then puts the matching one on Shane, joining their
hands together and pronouncing them "Dr. and Mrs. Roberts." Shane, more
amused than Vicky, smiles broadly. Vicky sets the clerk straight, but the
clerk is unapologetic, insisting they look perfect together. Vicky asks
her to set some rings aside for her. The clerk exits to get Shane's
package, and Vicky starts to leave to find Jake and Kirk. She's right,
says Shane, we do look perfect together. Shane, please, Vicky protests.
I love you, I always will, he answers.

DESPERATELY SEEKING FANNY

Felicia's suite - Alexander has discovered that Felicia fled the
hospital; he ends up at her door, saying he's been searching all night and
begging her to let him in. Without opening the door, she tells him she's
not the same person he fell in love with, it's over. Big Al wants her to
take back the engagement ring and return to the hospital. She refuses,
remembering the horrified look on his face when he saw her without the
bandages. She finally agrees to see him, but not alone. He offers to go
get Cass, but she says no, go get Gary. He leaves [see below], and she
sobs, goodbye, Alexander. Wearing a hooded raincoat to conceal her face,
she takes all her cash and jewelry and dumps it in a satchel. She bids a
tearful goodbye to her dog Paris, telling her (him?) to stay with Big Al
and Gary until she can find a new place to live. Then she grabs the
satchel and exits [see below].

MAKESHIFT FAMILY

Sinclair place - Josie arrives home with a bunch of clothes she
bought for Rain, the little girl Gary had found abandoned. The child
doesn't want to give up the clothes she's wearing. Gary cautions Josie
not to get too attached to Rain, who's bound to be taken away soon to a
foster home, or returned to her family. Josie and Gary fret over how to
tell Rain her mommy isn't coming back. Rain emerges wearing the new
coveralls, but shies away when Josie suggests trying on a new shirt. They
follow her back to the guest room and assure her she doesn't have to do
anything she doesn't want. They share a group hug, then Rain says she
wants her mommy. Josie hedges, saying her mommy's sick and can't be here.
Rain says they should give mommy her pills. Josie asks who gives her
mommy those pills; Rain answers, "Popper."

Alex comes over to get Gary, telling him Felicia fled the hospital
and wants to see him, warning him to brace himself for her appearance.
Gary says she saved my life, I don't care what she looks like. Josie
sends him off with her blessing [see below], then gives Rain the
all-clear. Josie suggests a nice bubble bath, and goes to fill the tub
while Rain undresses. Josie returns to find her stripped down to her
undershirt, then notices she has a big contusion on her shoulder, but
doesn't say anything [see below].

WILD GOOSE CHASE

Felicia's place - Big Al and Gary arrive, and have to break the door
down when Felicia doesn't answer. They find all her cash and jewelry
gone, and Al is relieved that she hadn't committed suicide. Gary sneers,
you say you love her but you don't know her at all - she'd never ever kill
herself. He imagines she's afraid of losing her career and possibly her
love life because of her facial scars, and probably thinks she was
protecting her loved ones by running out. He starts out the door to
search for her. Al stops him and offers all the money and resources he
wants to bring her home to him. I'll find her, snorts Gary, but I'm not
bringing her back to you, she's not your property - you say you love her,
but it was your childish feud with Carl that caused all the damage! Just
find her, says Al.
Later, Big Al sits on the couch in the deserted suite, stroking Paris
and vowing to bring Felicia back to them. I'll see that Carl soon feels
the same pain and loneliness that I feel, he growls. The dog seems
unimpressed.

DAMAGE CONTROL

Junkyard - Grant (in trenchcoat and slouch hat!) meets with Collins,
his drug dealer, and orders him to leave town - the cops will soon tie him
to the Jane Doe who died of an overdose. Collins claims they can't prove
he gave her the drugs, and the woman and kid were more trouble then they
were worth. Grant is shocked to learn that the dead woman left a child.
Collins says he doesn't accept the woman's claim the he was the father,
and he has no clue where the kid is now and could care less. Grant shoves
a wad of money at the guy, who tosses it aside as chump change compared to
what he makes selling drugs. He has a friend in rehab and knows all about
the captain's wife, and he threatens to tell the press where those drugs
came from. Grant warns him a move like that could get him killed, and
skulks away [see below].

Carlinos - Grant drops by to pressure Paulina to stop upsetting his
wife about her drug connection, after the risks Cindy took to help her.
Paulina wants Cindy to give the cops a lead on the source of those killer
drugs. Grant says he knows all about the source, and he's convinced the
pusher to leave town. Paulina notes that something is fishy with his
story, Cindy had told her she got the drugs over the internet. Unusually
perceptive for Bay City lately, she makes the connection that Grant
probably gave Cindy the drugs. Grant threatens to bring her up on charges
if she says anything. Go ahead, says Paulina defiantly, I'd love to drag
your name into this and see you get impeached!

Sinclair pad - Grant drops by to pressure Josie to arrest Carl for
Felicia's fall if she doesn't want to lose her job. There are no grounds
to arrest him, Josie reminds him. Rain cries out in her sleep from the
other room; Grant is suspicious that they're being overheard, but Josie
claims it's the TV. Gary returns home in time to toss Grant out the door.
Josie gives him a round of applause. Gary reports that Felicia had taken
all her cash and jewels and split, sending Big Al here on a wild goose
chase. Josie sympathizes, then reports that the dead woman was positively
identified as Cheryl Wolf, Rain's mother - she'd given birth at BCUH, no
father listed, but one male visitor. Maybe her pimp, guesses Gary. Maybe
Rain's father, Josie suggests, she told me "Popper" beat her when she made
noise, I saw bruises under her t-shirt. Gary is livid - I refuse to give
her back to someone who beats her, father or no father!

TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

Carlinos' back alley - Collins is thumbing through the money Grant
had left, when he spots Felicia using her cell phone. Felicia is ordering
a limo to take her to Chicago, assuring them she has the cash to pay for
it - her satchel hangs open, the cash clearly visible. When she hangs
up, Collins pounces, making some nasty remarks about her horrific
appearance. She struggles to get away, but he's too strong. He waves the
limo driver away, then steals the satchel, throws Felicia down on a pile
of garbage bags, and flees. A homeless man pops up from under the pile
where she's just landed. She's frightened, but he seems nice so she asks
if he saw her attacker. He regrets he was asleep until she fell, didn't
see anything. She wails that he took everything she had, all her money
and jewels. You still have your soul, he says; he asks if someone is
looking for her. Yes, but I don't want to be found, she answers. He
offers to escort her to a safe place; she agrees gratefully, and they
exit.
Singing "Amazing Grace" [and not just the first verse, either!], the
man leads Felicia to what appears to be a deserted chapel and offers her a
seat. He tries to give her some water, but she asks for something
stronger - I'm in pain, I've been in an accident. Then you must drink
from a deeper well, he answers cryptically. He pulls back her hood and
scarf, and doesn't recoil from the sight. He touches her cheek tenderly,
and she relaxes at his kindness. FADE TO BLACK.

Boy, Bay City is really going to heck in a handbasket! Will the reign of
terror never end? Will true-to-life, family-oriented stories ever make a
return? Will ANYONE in the ENTIRE TOWN, EVER, find happiness?? Don't
look like it...
