>Here is your Another World update for Friday, Oct. 4:
>
>Josie and Gary's: In the throws of passion, Josie tells Gary he is
everything to her.
>
>Casa Carlino: Sofia comes running down the stairs with a bag. The doorbell
rings. It's Matt. He has a special delivery. Sofia is almost packed and
is going to start her internship tomorrow. Matt wonders if the one bag is
all she is taking. She has another upstairs. He insists she has forgotten
a few things and brings forth a wrapped box. He brings it into the house,
telling her its content is something she can't live without.
>
>Carlino's: Jake bursts into the restaurant and tells Paulina, who is trying
to fill bottles with red wine vinegar, to break out the champagne, he is
celebrating because he is "back in the winner's circle." Paulina scoffs,
but she points out the fact that Donna ordered champagne she didn't use, so
Jake might as well have it. Jake says he is happy because he was right and
that he is moving obstacles: Bobby Reno is history.
>
>Bobby's room: Bobby is all packed when there is a knock at his door. It is
Vicky. She says she is sorry, that she shouldn't have come. She leaves,
and Bobby closes he door. Vicky walks back to the door, and Bobby opens it.
They stare at each other.
>
>Casa Carlino: Sofia says she can't imagine taking this large package on the
plane. Matt insists she open it, that these were a few things that were
laying around the house that he thought she could use. He opens the box and
shows her its contents: a slightly worn black briefcase, a gargoyle made out
of clay full of pencils, legal pads, popcorn, bus and subway maps, the Windy
City map with all the windiest spots marked right on the map, a pair of
socks, a pair of gloves. Matt reminds her of the deal that he is going to
sculpt her when she comes back. He tells her to take care of herself and
that he will miss her. They stare at each other.
>
>Carlino's: Paulina pours herself a glass of soda and sings Bobby's praises.
She wants to know what Jake did to Bobby. Jake says Bobby was trying to get
his foot in the door with Vicky, but that Jake gave him his walking papers
before he could pull off his little scam: Bobby's a con artist and was after
Vicky's money. Paulina thinks Jake is nuts. Jake figures Bobby snowed
everyone. Jake says Vicky is annoyed, but that she will get over it,
because he has learned a lot about Bobby is that last day. Jake divulges
that Bobby was blind a year ago and needed a cornea transplant and that the
donor was Ryan.
>
>Bobby's room: Bobby invites her in. Vicky hears the song and asks about
it. Bobby says that over the last year he has listened to it. He turns it
off and puts some country music on and asks her why she is there. Vicky
starts in talking about how Bobby has Ryan's eyes. Corneas, Bobby corrects,
I don't have his eyes. Vicky gets all mad when Bobby tells her he was
leaving. She accuses him of pulling a fast one.
>
>Gabe's place: Lorna is on the phone to Joe asking if he has seen Gabe and
if he does, could Joe please send him home, or better yet, could Joe bring
him home personally? Lorna hangs up and turns to see Gabe at the door. He
says he had some police business to take care of, but she should relax now
because he is here. She says she was scared for him and hopes whatever he
was doing was worth it. It wasn't, in his estimation. He went to see Josie
because she resigned from the force, and he thought if he went and made a
personal appeal she would change her mind. Lorna is saddened by the news,
but she insists that Gabe concentrate on his recovery. He just wants to
concentrate on her. They kiss until there is a knock on the door. It's
Cindy. She comes in to see if Gabe got home OK and hopes she isn't
interrupting anything.
>
>Josie and Gary's: Josie is wide awake, and Gary is trying to sleep. She
suggests they go down to Sassy's and dance. Gary insists that it is late.
Josie says she isn't a working girl anymore: she can dance until dawn and
sleep till noon, so why shouldn't she? Gary claims he can't keep up with
her. She begs and pleads; he wants them to be alone. Josie says they
should get crazy and make some happy memories. He agrees to go to make her
happy.
>
>Bobby's room: She accuses Bobby of using his transplant to move in on
Vicky, to take her money. Did you come up with this idea yourself, or did
you have help, Bobby asks. Vicky says Jake was onto Bobby, but that now she
sees what the plan was all along, but that he needed the money, and that is
why he grabbed it when Jake offered it to him. Bobby insists that she
doesn't have all the facts, but one thing is true: he is very lucky he got
the transplant, and thanks to Ryan, he can see today. And you sure are
using that to your advantage, Vicky retorts. Bobby says he is leaving town,
but he wants her to know two things: he didn't know Ryan was the donor, and
he didn't take Jake's money. Vicky says Jake told her he left Bobby with
the money. Bobby says he took the money and threw it away as soon as Jake
left. Vicky is shocked: you threw away $200,00? You owe the hospital half
a million. Bobby says that is confidential information, and that he does
not need Jake's money. Bobby goes to leave, and Vicky tells him she wanted
to believe him. Bobby leaves. They stare at each other again.
>
>Casa Carlino: Sofia thanks Matt for her things. Matt says he hopes the
trip isn't being used to run away from being hurt. Sofia insists that this
internship will help her figure out what she wants to do and will open a lot
of doors for her. Matt still thinks that isn't the only reason for leaving:
with Nick back, it is an incentive to leave town. She doesn't deny that.
Sofia thinks Matt knows how she feels. He tells her to accomplish something
for herself and have a good time. Matt leaves. Sofia turns around and
finds Nick standing in the living room.
>
>Carlino's: Jake insists Bobby has Ryan's eyes, not his values. You think
only noble people get transplants? Bobby thought he would play it for all
its worth, that Vicky could fall in love with him because he has a piece of
Ryan. Paulina says Jake is wrong. Jake says it is about money: he offered
some to Bobby to leave town and leave Vicky alone and he took it. Paulina
doesn't believe it. Jake says Bobby owes the hospital $500,000. Paulina
says she can't believe it. Jake says its true and tells Paulina to tell him
he did the right thing. Paulina pauses, then says she can't do that, but
she can see how much he loves Vicky. He insists he can't let Vicky slip
away; from now on, he is taking care of Vicky, and no one will get in his
way. Paulina only hopes he hasn't messed it up already.
>
>Bobby's room: Vicky says she knows where Bobby is coming from: she knows
what it is like to want your share and do whatever it takes to get it. You
think I would stoop so low, Bobby asks. Vicky says a big bank account
doesn't make you happy. Bobby thanks her for that news flash. She says he
is human: he saw a connection between him and Ryan and took advantage. He
insists that he didn't go after her and Michael, that he didn't take any
money from her except that which he earned and he won't be insulted any
more, so please don't let the door hit your butt on the way out. As Vicky
turns to leave, she hears a news bulletin: an orderly at the hospital found
$200,000 in a laundry cart.
>
>Carlino's: Jake and Paulina hear the bulletin. Jake gets mad: that's my
money! Paulina is amused: if an orderly has the money, Bobby doesn't. What
in the hell is he up to, Jake asks. He runs out of the restaurant.
>
>Bobby's room: Bobby laughs at the announcement. Vicky is speechless. You
didn't take the money, she asks, you left it there like you said you did.
She says she is sorry and apologizes for saying all those things and jumping
to conclusions and she understands if he can't forgive her, but she is
irrational about Ryan. Bobby says he hopes if she realizes he wasn't lying
about the money, that maybe she can understand that he wasn't lying about
the transplant either; he didn't know who the donor was. He says he would
never use Ryan's name to his disadvantage. She says she is sorry she
suggested that. He insists that it was Jake's idea, and that maybe she
ought to tell Jake that in life there are coincidences, like Bobby coming to
work for Vicky after the transplant, that it was just a coincidence. Bobby
says he will leave, because nothing has changed for him. Vicky takes the CD
out of the radio and tells him that the song was Ryan's favorite, but that
Bobby already knew that, didn't he?
>
>Casa Carlino: Sofia wants to know how Nick got into her house. He says he
couldn't wait any longer, that the kitchen door was wide open, that he
wanted to see her, that she looks beautiful, that he has been thinking about
her a lot. He insists he only just came in, that he wasn't eavesdropping on
her conversation with Matt. Nick asks why Matt was here because he cares
about everything Sofia does. Matt is a kind and unselfish person, Sofia
replies, and I needed a friend tonight because I lost a few recently. Nick
tries to talk to her, but she insists that he leave, because that is what
she wants. Nick says he doesn't believe her and touches her hand.
>
>Sassy's: Gary and Josie dance. When Gary tries to sit down, Josie pulls
him back up again. Matt comes in and asks what the special occasion is.
Happiness, Josie replies and asks what Matt is doin there alone. He came by
for a beer. They sit down together. Matt says he is going to spend the
rest of the evening watching two of Bay City's finest dance. Josie says
Gary is the only one now because she is a civilian. Matt is surprised to
hear Josie resigned. She says it is great because she has time for other
things, that it was a phase that she is over now. She is going to be a wife
and a mother but not a cop. Gary says he has to go leave a message on
Tibbs' voicemail and then he has a real surprise for her: they are going
home. Where did this decision come from-being a cop was everything to you,
Matt asks. Josie insists Gary is her number one priority now. Matt says
Josie always needed more than love in her life, but Josie replies that is in
the past: I am different now. Matt thinks something is wrong, but then a
song comes on and Josie pulls Matt to his feet and they start dancing before
she can reply. From across the room, Gary watches them. He looks concerned.
>
>Gabe's apartment: Cindy sits in a chair. Lorna and Gabe are cuddled on the
couch. Gabe offers Cindy some tea, but she declines, saying she doesn't
want to wear out her welcome. Gabe insists, and Cindy and Lorna go into the
kitchen to make it. Lorna confides to Cindy that she is concerned that Gabe
is pushing himself and overdoing it, and she was wondering if Cindy could
get him to take it easy, since she is a nurse. Cindy will see what she can
do and goes to sit with Gabe. They make small talk about her moving in to a
new apartment. Gabe volunteers to help. Cindy lowers her voice and asks if
he feels up to it. Absolutely, he replies. She says he can't carry much
cause of his arm in a sling, and he threatens to show her how much he can
press with his left hand. She says no, that she can't ask for his help.
Gabe insists that even though Sara is gone, Cindy will always be family to
him. She tries to get him to say no, but he won't take no for an answer.
She says maybe he can supervise, but no heavy lifting. He says he wants to
be there for her. She says that means a lot.
>
>Carlino's: Jake comes back in bearing an envelope and wearing a severely
pissed off look. He picks up the phone at the bar and dials. Paulina
congratulates him on getting his money back. Jake had to give the orderly
$10,000 to give the rest back. Paulina hopes that he will lay off Bobby now
that they know he didn't take the money. You are such an innocent, Jake
replies. The call connects and Etta May answers. Jake asks if Vicky is
there, and when she isn't, he says he will try her at her mom's. Paulina
asks what the hell is going on. Jake replies that he should have shipped
Bobby out when he had the chance-the $200,000 wasn't enough; Bobby is after
Vicky's inheritance. What am I supposed to do, wait until Vicky and Bobby
are married and he's drained her bank accounts? He is probably sitting with
her right now convincing her I am the devil himself. He calls Donna's
house, and there is no answer. Jake says he can't stand to think about that
ex-con around Vicky and the kids; if someone is going to protect them, it's
Jake. He picks up his money and storms off.
>
>Bobby's room: Bobby takes the CD out of his boom-box, puts it in the case
and leaves on the table. He picks up the boom-box and his bag and walks out
of the room, closing the door behind him.
>
>Sassy's: Matt is winded from dancing, but Josie is still bouncing around:
ready for another one? Matt sits down. Josie tries to pull Gary on the
dance floor to dance with her, but Gary says they ought to go home. Josie
quickly agrees, and they leave, saying bye to Matt as they exit.
>
>Casa Carlino: Sofia asks Nick to go, but he says he can't because he has a
lot of things to tell her. He says he feels connected to her, that he had
no idea what love was until he met her, and that when he lost her, he felt
like he lost a part of himself. Sofia looks moved, but then she turns away
and says he will get over it. Nick says he hasn't and he won't, that he is
still in love with her and he can't believe that he feels nothing for him.
She says she can't feel anything for him cause it hurts too much. Do you
really want to throw away everything like it never happened, he asks. You
made me believe that something could last forever. It can, she replies, but
not with you and me.  He doesn't think she means it.  She can't trust him;
he asks for a second chance to show her she can trust him. She insists it
won't happen after what he and Maggie did to her. He knows she still feels
something for him, and he wants to build on what they had, but if there is
no chance for him, he needs her to tell him she doesn't love him. She turns
to face him. If you can do that, I'll go, he says. She starts to cry, and
they kiss. He stops kissing her, and then she kisses him back, but then she
pulls away and says she doesn't want this to happen. She asks him to leave,
now. Nick turns to leave, but he promises to come back, that he loves her,
and that he always will. Sofia slams the door.
>
>Gary and Josie's: Josie is slightly drunk. Gary tries to talk to her,
asking her what is wrong. He tries to get her take it easy and relax. She
says that she does that best in the tub and runs to the bathroom to run it.
>
>Gabe's apartment: Lorna yawns and apologizes. Cindy says she is tired too,
as must be Gabe. Cindy gives him a Discman and asks him to be careful with
it. She then tells Lorna a story about how Gabe had one of these before,
but he kicked it overboard when he was paddling around on the Swan boats
(which, for those of you who are not familiar with Boston (where I live ;),
are on this little pond down on Boston Common during the summer-thing is, a
college kid usually peddles a bicycle-like thing and that paddles the boat
and the passengers just sit there--but digress). Gabe remembers the
incident; he says it ruined their first date. You two dated, Lorna asks.
Lorna and Cindy look at each other.
>
>Bobby's room: Jake bangs on the door and tells Bobby to open up. The door
is open, and Jake walks in. He sees the CD on the table and looks puzzled.
>
>Sassy's: Bobby drinks a glass of water at the bar. The jukebox is playing
the song. Vicky walks over to him. You just can't stop playing that song,
she says. Bobby asks her if she followed him. She didn't. Then what are
you doing here, Vic, he asks. She said she was driving around and ended up
there. So do you always leave you kids home alone so you can check out
bars, he asks. She replies that the kids aren't alone, they are with Etta
May if he is worried. Maybe I ended up here the way you keep playing that
song. He tries to deny it, but she insists that the song cuts to his soul.
She doesn't want him to know anything about what she and Ryan shared, but
she can't control it any more than he can, and that is scary, isn't it, she
asks.
