Here is the Update for Another World for Friday, October 14,
1994:

* Krystal Lake's Return Engagement [GO KRYSTAL GO!]
* Cass, Ian, Grant, and Walter each spring their respective
traps

Frankie, Cass, Marshall, assorted extras

At the women-only Romance Society luncheon at Tops, Frankie
quickly recognizes Cass in drag ("That's Krystal, with a K -
former sweetheart of Tony the Tuna..."). She's appalled,
fearful that he'll blow their cover; but she can't help
giggling at the sight. (Frankie: "You're not what would be
termed a handsome woman." Kass: "Bitch.") Marshall
approaches and asks if there's a problem. Yes, but she was
just leaving, says Frankie. Not on your life, says Kass; he
starts flirting with Marshall, who doesn't recognize him.
Kass offers to help find Felicia - "We should all use our
own individual talents...we shouldn't summarily dismiss any
idea, no matter how mondo-bizarro." Get rid of her,
Marshall tells Frankie, as he walks away. Frankie drags
Kass out to the balcony and closes the doors. She erupts in
fury at his jeopardizing their investigation, but Kass
assures her "Krystal knows subtle" - he's afraid Felicia is
in danger from some unknown kidnapper, and he doesn't want
to take a chance of Frankie's being abducted, too; he'd feel
better if they worked together. Frankie finally agrees to
let him "wear the dress in the family" for today, and every
time she tries to get serious she starts giggling again.
They decide their main task is to get information on the one
conference registrant they couldn't reach, Penelope Windsor.
As they start to return to the restaurant, she stops him.
You really are amazing, she tells him, giving him a kiss.
She giggles again at the taste of his lipstick; their kiss
heats up into something more energetic; then they notice a
pair of curious luncheon guests watching them through the
balcony doors. I think we've just come out of the closet,
says Kass. They return to the luncheon arm-in-arm in time
to hear Marshall address the luncheon. Marshall asks the
group for help in tracing Felicia's whereabouts since the
convention. Frankie and Kass mingle, and Kass overhears a
couple of dowagers talking. One woman thinks the abduction
story is a publicity stunt, the other says Felicia would
never be involved in such cheap theatrics. I wish Penelope
Windsor were here, she's so wise about things, says the
first. Follow me to the ladies' room, says the second, have
I got a story to tell you about Penelope! Kass tries to get
Frankie's attention to follow them, but can't catch her eye
across the room; "For Felicia," he decides, "I'll boldly go
where no man has gone before." He heads for the ladies
room, and hears the women trashing male romanced writers.
Kass agrees with them (less than subtly), and retreats to a
stall. He brings up Penelope's name, claims to be an old
friend, how's she doing? Not well, they say; they tell him
Penelope died 6 months ago. A shocked Kass emerges from the
stall, but his wig catches on the door frame and pulls off
(much as his cover was blown years ago in Krystal Lake's
first incarnation). Oh, no, not again, he moans, as all the
women run out screaming. Marshall enters, fists raised, and
finds Kass unwigged. Frankie rushes in, guessing correctly
why women were running out shrieking. Has your husband been
doing this long? asks Marshall. Yes, but not for a while,
answers Kass. Marshall and Frankie are both talking at
once, but Cass shushes them and reveals what he learned:
Penelope's deceased, which her son neglected to mention when
he called Marshall. Frankie thinks Cass is onto something,
and she picks up a vibe that Felicia may be hurt. They all
dash off to Penelope's house; Marshall can't believe Kass is
still wearing Krystal garb, but Cass refuses to waste time
changing out of his panty hose.

Walter/Felicia

Felicia paces around the attic, talking to her recorder.
She says she's been so upset she hasn't been able to eat
much, and she's really hungry now. She adds that she hopes
they find the note she sneaked out the window with the
feather from her boa attached, and fears that Walter is so
sick he may keep her there forever, no matter how much she
writes. Walter knocks on the door; Felicia hides the tape,
and Walter enters with a dress box. I have the answer to
our problems, he says, put this on. You're crazy, Felicia
answers. [Walter takes this as an insult.] Hurry up, he
snaps. She emerges shortly wearing a white lacy Victorian
gown, and Walter wears a period shirt. She recognizes the
clothes from the cover of one of her books. Walter says it
was his mother's favorite, he reads it every year at this
time for her birthday. He says he's prepared a feast using
dishes from her novels, this will inspire you to write the
perfect ending to your greatest romance ever. Then can I go
home? she asks. Then maybe you'll let me help write your
next one, he answers evasively. He serves her a bowl of
consomme', which she says tastes very strong. He assures
her the recipes are authentic, and she's so hungry she eats
it anyway, along with the venison, black currant sauce, etc.
As they discuss her books, she tells him he has wonderful
insights, how did he learn so much about love and romance.
He admits it's all from her books; Felicia asks with
astonishment, are you saying you've never had...? He
replies defensively that he had to care for his mother since
high school. Felicia tells him that's good, now he has so
much to look forward to, he should get out and meet people,
his mother would want it. Walter insists they get back to
focusing on her novel. Felicia really feels woozy, she
tells Walter she needs to lie down, she feels like she's
been drinking. It was necessary, he tells her coldly, your
writing was much better before you stopped drinking, I don't
know why I didn't think of it before - all these recipes had
liquor in them, even the salad dressing. Felicia is
stunned, then irate - she attacks him in a fury - How could
you do this to me, she screams; then she sinks to his feet,
sobbing.

Ian/Billy/Josie/Spencer/Evan/Trent/Ryan/assorted police

[Through the entire scene, the camera keeps going back to
Felicia's feathered note on the floor of the Harbor Club
restaurant where the mail carrier dropped it; in the
activity, no one notices it.] As Ian protests the
detective's charges and search warrant, Billy and Josie
enter, then Spencer arrives. Billy says he's closing the
club down, anyone who doesn't cooperate with their search
warrant will be arrested. Trent and Evan watch from the
sidelines; Trent says the computer access code he stole from
Josie let him alter the club's financial records. With
Ian's police record, smirks Ian, this will keep him away
from Josie for a long time - too bad Lila has to go down,
too, but easy come, easy go. Josie stands by Ian, vouching
for his integrity while she worked at the club; but Billy
says maybe Ian and his buddies went behind her back. Billy
accuses Ian and Spence of running an illegal gambling
operation, headed by Lila. Spence says don't answer any
questions until I reach my lawyer. Josie takes Ian aside
and says she knows he wasn't involved, but could Spence and
Lila have been running something behind his back? Ian says
he would have known; but Josie thinks he should get his own
lawyer anyway. Evan appears to comfort Josie, and Trent
offers his legal advice. No thanks, says Ian, I saw how
much you helped Iris, I'll handle this myself. Trent and
Evan return to the sidelines. The detective tells Billy
there's a problem, he needs the access code to get the
club's financial records. Spence refuses it until he talks
to his lawyer, and Ian backs him up. Billy mentions Ian's
police record, and Josie defends Ian's honesty - maybe
Spence and Lila had a deal, but Ian wasn't involved. Ian's
no angel, Lila retorts, how do you think he got his half of
the club - he won it in a poker game! Is this true? Josie
asks Ian. No comment until I talk to Spencer's lawyer, he
replies. He goes to call Ryan [see below] and tells him he
and Spence are about to be arrested with Lila. Ryan says
he'll be right there. Then Ian takes Josie aside and
explains about Spence's gambling problem, how Ian bailed him
out, how he paid for his half of the club which Spence
offered in gratitude, and no gambling took place at the
club. Josie believes him, and wants to tell Billy to back
off, but Ian says he doesn't want her involved. Ryan
enters, tries unsuccessfully to find out where Billy got his
tip about the gambling, and insists it was a set-up. Billy
allows him to talk with Spence unofficially, and he tells
Spence he'll help get to the bottom of this. Then he talks
with Ian, and they figure Evan is behind this and he's
letting Lila take a fall. Ryan promises he won't let the
charges stick. Ryan leaves [see below], and Ian tries to
get rid of Evan, but Evan wants to stay and look out for
Josephine. Josie says she's going to the station with Ian,
or at least she'll call Matt at KBAY and stir up some TV
publicity, but Ian repeats that he doesn't want her involved
in the mess. Evan agrees, it could affect her modeling
career. Billy approaches and says it's time to go, tell
your girlfriend goodbye and make it quick. Ian and Josie
embrace; Josie still wants to meet him at the station, but
Ian says stay here, I'll let you know what happens. Billy
says let's go; Spence says his lawyer will meet them
downtown. Josie and Ian kiss, and she tells him to be
careful; then Billy leads Ian, Spence and Lila out. Evan
and Trent have been enjoying the show from the sidelines;
Josie turns to Evan for comfort, and he holds her and
assures her everything will be o.k.

Ryan/Vicky/Grant/Amanda/Vince

Ryan is at the Cory house, on the phone with Vicky. He begs
her not to go ahead with her plan to turn herself in until
she talks to Cass [who is otherwise occupied - see above].
He says Grant shows no signs of backing off. Are you saying
you want me to take the baby and skip town again? she asks.
She insists she's tired of running, she doesn't want to risk
losing Ryan forever. He reminds her that Grant's goons are
tailing his every step, he's afraid her plan will backfire.
She says her only hope is to stage her own media event at
the police station before Grant can spin coverage his way.
He reluctantly agrees to help her if she'll just sit tight
and try to reach Cass. As he hangs up, Amanda enters and
catches the tail end of the call. She tells Ryan they have
a lot in common, maybe they can help each other, she can
work on Grant and he can work on Vicky. As they talk, they
determine that neither one trusts the other enough to back
down, and everyone is bound to end up getting hurt. Grant
approaches the house with Vince, notes Ryan's car out front,
and orders Vince not to lose Ryan again [on pain of having
to listing to another Grant tirade]. Grant enters the
house. Grant: "Hello, Ryan." Ryan: "Goodbye, Grant."
Grant stops him to apologize for blowing up at him at the
Harbor Club earlier - I only wish you could know what it's
like to be a father, deprived of seeing your son's first
formative months. Ryan repeats, this could have been over
months ago if you hadn't been so rigid and unwilling to
compromise. I refuse to compromise - but nothing personal,
says Grant. Very personal, answers Ryan, and it's all
downhill from here. Ryan's phone rings - it's Ian, telling
him there's trouble at the Harbor Club [see above]. Ryan
tells Nosy Grant the call was none of his business, brushes
past him, and exits. Grant smirks to Amanda that Ryan is
walking right into his trap.

Ryan arrives at the Harbor Club and talks with Billy; Billy
promises he'll be at the station when Ryan brings Vicky in,
as they arranged. Ryan talks with Spence and Ian; he tells
Ian he'll help clear him, and he'll meet him at the station
tonight - I'll be there in the hoopla surrounding Vicky. He
starts to leave to meet with Vicky, but sees Vince in the
doorway and whispers a request to Ian. No problem, Ian
agrees. As Ryan ducks out the back, Ian tells the cops that
Vince is involved in the gambling, and the cops surround
Vince.  He flashes his I.D. and says he's working for Grant;
but Ryan is long gone. Billy turns on Ian with irritation.
Can't anyone take a joke? quips Ian. Vince calls Grant and
reports that he lost Ryan again. Tell me you were born
incompetent, snarls Grant; no more excuses, scour the
neighborhood, I know he's going to meet Vicky. He slams
down the phone as Amanda enters, and tells her it's time for
some prayers. The phone rings again; after a few short
words, Grant hangs up smiling - their prayers have just been
answered.

Ryan arrives at Vicky's motel and says he thinks he lost
Grant's tail. Vicky and the baby are about ready to travel.
She says she hasn't been able to reach Cass, but she intends
to go through with the plan, she's sure it will work. She
promises to make it all up to Ryan if he'll give her the
chance, then asks for a minute with the baby before they
leave. After tonight, she predicts, nothing is going to be
the same. She holds the child to her breast and talks
comfortingly to him as Ryan watches out the door. When
they're ready to go, Ryan opens the door - and in strides
Grant, followed by Amanda and a cop. It's over, Victoria,
he states grimly, give me my son. FREEZE FRAME.

As ever,

Vicky (vkorosei@midas.sinclair.edu)
