Friday updateHere is the Another World update for Friday, October 7,
1994
- "The Pre-Wedding Shuffle." It was a frantic episode, a
lot of running around, and I hope my train of thought
doesn't derail. Good luck!

Tom'as/Angela/Morgan/Brett

Tom'as and Angela bring Luisa to the clinic at the Community
Center, where Morgan is on duty. Tom'as says he wants Luisa
checked out after her "illness" the other night; but he's
really trying to get Angela to admit she made it up to get
him away from Maggie. Morgan asks Angela about Luisa's
symptoms and the medicine she used; Angela's answers are
barely adequate. Morgan takes Luisa to examine her, and
Tom'as tells Angela she's "so full of it" [do you believe
it, the boy gets a clue?!], he knows she's lying, the
medicine bottle was still sealed. She whines that she's so
inexperienced she gets scared when Luisa gets sick, but
she's doing her best. She swears she's being completely
honest. Tom'as still suspects his wife of trying to
interfere in his love life.

Brett enters, looking for Morgan to see if he's ready for
the wedding. He comes out, tells Tom'as and Angela that
Luisa is fine, and they take her out and let her play with a
friend at the Center for a while. While they wait, Angela
tells Tom'as she doesn't need to break him and Maggie up -
that will happen all by itself. Now that she's been to the
Cory mansion (for Paulina's shower), she knows just how rich
Maggie's family is, and warns Tom'as that Maggie will ditch
him when she's tired of slumming. Maggie and I are none of
your business, he tells her. She says she just doesn't want
him to get hurt. Then don't ever lie to me again, he warns
her, especially about Luisa, and don't ever use or
manipulate her for your own purposes. She agrees [yeah,
right], and they take Luisa home.

Meanwhile, Brett is trying to get Morgan to hurry up for
Paulina and Jake's wedding. He says he still has 3 patients
to see, and he has an emergency call in to Paulina - she has
to come down and sign something, there's a problem with her
gift to the Center. Gift - Brett remembers that she left
her wedding gift at home; Morgan says to go on without him
since she has to be there early to be a bridesmaid, he'll
meet her at the chapel. They discuss (unconvincingly) how
they made the right decision not to get married, they're
both too busy with their careers, but they have to be
careful not to be sucked in by being around weddings and
babies together. Romantic stuff can be contagious, she
says; their eyes lock at close proximity, and he tells her
she'd better go. They share a brief but electric kiss, she
leaves, and he mumbles that weddings aren't contagious,
measles and chicken pox are - no problem.

Brett goes home and changes for the wedding, and lays out
Morgan's tux. She lapses into a fantasy about their being a
successful married couple. In her fantasy, she comes home
to him looking remarkably like Donna, very tailored and
chic. He reveals that her life and career are being
featured in Architectural Digest; he's just been made Chief
of Staff, their twins [!] are child prodigies, and their
nanny is just finishing her master's degree in Child
Development. The fantasy makes her laugh - with her luck,
she says, the nanny won't have her green card. No marriage,
no kids, and I'm NOT catching the bouquet, she tells
Morgan's tux. She grabs her gift and exits for the wedding.

Grant/Ryan

Grant is at a booth at Tops, on the phone to one of his
lackeys staking out Vicky's motel - don't let her get away,
he demands. Ryan enters and confronts him about his crusade
to put Vicky in jail - Kirk will hate you forever for
hurting his mother, Ryan warns. Grant cops his usual
"wronged, wounded, indignant father" attitude, but Ryan
points out Grant's army of investigators, lawyers, and even
the judge's aide willing to bend the law for Grant's
vendetta. Vicky's a neurotic, insecure woman with a pattern
of kidnaping her children away from their fathers, Grant
warns Ryan, it could happen to you, too. And you have a
pattern of lying, cheating, and stealing to get your own
way, dating back to childhood as I remember, Ryan retorts.
My son has been dragged all over creation without regard to
his welfare, Grant sneers, he'll thank me for what I'm about
to do. And what are you about to do, Ryan presses. Don't
you have to go play best man for Jake? Grant answers, time
for you to leave.

Maggie/Amanda/Rachel/Grant

Maggie, Amanda, and Rachel are running around the mansion
accusing each other of swiping their hair care equipment,
getting ready for the wedding. Paulina enters in distress
and says big deal, I can't find my bridegroom. She picks up
the phone to call him again - if he doesn't answer this
time, he's dead meat. No answer [see below]; she leaves her
9th frantic message and hangs up. Later she takes refuge in
the chapel, decorated for the wedding. Maggie follows,
senses she's scared for Jake's welfare, and advises her not
to assume the worst, just wait and find out what happened,
there's still time to panic. She admits she's using
Rachel's advice - don't tell her I said this, but Rachel's
usually right. Paulina feels better; she hugs Maggie and
tells her if she sees Jake, tell him I'm on my way to his
house to kill him. Paulina exits; Jerry enters and finds
Maggie alone. He says he's here to tend bar for the
caterer; he's glad when Maggie tells him Tom'as won't be
there, now I can use the whole day to convince you to go out
with me. Maggie smiles uncomfortably.

Meanwhile, in the house, Rachel and Amanda keep moving the
flowers around from where the other has placed them, very
cute. They talk about Paulina's search for the missing Jake
- so much for superstition, says Rachel - but if anything
goes wrong for them, it won't be because they saw each other
before the wedding. Rachel says she has a weird feeling
about today. They talk about the events of the past year -
Amanda and Grant's engagement, Vicky leaving with Kirk, and
Grant's obsession with finding them; Amanda and Rachel's
estrangement over Carl, Carl's shooting, Iris going to jail,
Evan coming back to town. Of all of it, says Amanda, I'm
the most proud of how we've patched things up between us.
Rachel agrees. Amanda asks how Rachel likes being married
to Carl. It's full of surprises, but wonderful, she
answers; why, are you having second thoughts about Grant?
No, we're very happy, Amanda says [and apparently believes
it]; she goes up to check on Alli. Rachel heads outside,
and catches Grant on the phone demanding that Vicky be
"taken NOW." Rachel is alarmed by his vicious tone - "I
thought I only had Evan Frame to worry about with Amanda,
not you," she comments, "but now I wonder."

He tracks her down on the terrace and tries to reassure her,
but Rachel's worried that Amanda and Alli will get hurt in
the crossfire of his vendetta against Vicky. He maintains
he just wants his son back, but Rachel says she has the
feeling it's not about Kirk anymore, it's about sticking it
to Vicky. She admits that Vicky is manipulative and selfish
and unpredictable, but she's a good mother and Kirk is being
well cared for. She adds that Jamie got nowhere by
pressuring Vicky, but when he backed off, he and Vicky
reached a custody agreement for Steven; the same thing can
happen for Grant and Kirk, if he'll only back off. Grant
only answers that Amanda and Alli won't get hurt. Uh-huh,
says Rachel, and she exits through the house. Grant
follows, and finds Amanda in the living room moving a vase
around. She comforts him over his concern for his missing
son. They go out on the terrace to neck, but they're
interrupted by Maggie and Jerry. Maggie introduces Jerry,
then Grant leaves to make some phone calls [I wonder what
about?]. Rachel enters, moving a vase, and greets Jerry
warmly; apparently the Corys have been friends of Jerry's
family for years, which is news to Amanda. The doorbell
rings; while Amanda goes to answer it, Jerry asks Rachel to
put in a good word for him with Maggie. Maggie winces.
Amanda enters with Ryan, who came early to talk to Carl.
Sorry, he's still at work, says Rachel [WHAT?? SOMEONE IN
BAY CITY WORKS???], but have you seen Jake? No sign of him,
says Ryan; Maggie notes that Paulina's gone to look for him,
so now both bride and groom are missing. "Cool," says
Jerry, trying to put his arm around Maggie; she glares at
him, and he backs down. It's Maggie's turn to flee to the
chapel. As she's adjusting the candles, Rachel catches up
to her and encourages her to date around while she's waiting
for Tom'as to settle things with Angela; Jerry's a nice guy
[when he's not plotting with Angela], we know his family,
why not? Thanks, says Maggie, no offense, but I don't want
to date around - next to Tom'as, Jerry's just not "it."
"IT?" moans Rachel, "oh, Maggie, not IT, IT has gotten all
the Cory women in trouble, IT's our curse, IT always gets us
in trouble." Maggie is adamant, and Rachel gives up and
walks her back to the house.

Jake/Vicky/Kirk [in baby carrier]/Paulina

The phone rings, the machine picks up, and Paulina leaves
her 9th message for Jake [see above]. Jake enters with
Vicky carrying Kirk in his carrier, and he makes a dash for
the phone [Jake, not Kirk], reaching it just as Paulina
hangs up. Jake is irate at Vicky for getting him in trouble
with Paulina. He counts down: Calls #1 & 2 mean she wants
to talk to me; #3, 4, 5 mean she's worried; #6 & 7 mean
she's mad, #8 means I'm dead, and #9 means it's over - no,
not me and Paulina, me and you playing "hide the baby." He
tries to kick her out, but she pleads that he's her only
hope. He plays back Paulina's first 8 messages, and his
count was pretty accurate. He tells Vicky he's tired of
lying to Paulina, Vicky's problems with Ryan are because she
lied to him, she can't raise her child right by lying - but
she ignores him, she's too busy playing gitchy-coo with
Kirk. She asks Jake if he wants to feed the baby - he grabs
his chest in alarm, then refuses to get suckered in with
baby cuteness.  Then you may as well call Grant, she says;
if you don't help me, Grant will find us anyway, maybe
there's a reward, you can use the money to visit us in
prison. She plays on their long-standing friendship, how
she's always been there for him. He reminds her that
Paulina punched his lights out at his last wedding for lying
to her. But last time you were hurting her family, says
Vicky, this time you're helping a friend, Paulina will
understand. No, she'll never find out, he says, relenting.
A year from now we'll look back and laugh, she kids lamely -
Jake isn't amused. He changes into his tux and Vicky
gathers up her stuff. He tries to persuade her one last
time to call Ryan but she says she tried, he refused to talk
to her, and she'll try again later; there's no time, she
says, I can't let them take my son. Jake agrees, against
his better judgment; they start to leave, when he hears
someone approaching the door. He and Vicky grab Kirk and
his stuff and make a hasty exit out the back, just as
Paulina enters the front. She calls to him, so mad she
doesn't notice Vicky dropped Kirk's blanket on the floor in
their rush. She storms over to the answer machine and plays
back the remaining messages: first is Morgan's message for
her to come to the clinic as soon as possible [see above];
the second is her 9th message to Jake. She tries to call
home to see if he left her a message that he was meeting her
at the clinic - but the line is busy ("Of course it's busy,"
she says, "I'm getting married today - NOT!") She rushes
out, telling the absent Jake that he'd better be at the
clinic or he's history; again, she misses the blanket in her
rush to the Community Center [see below].

Jake/Ryan/Vicky/Paulina/Grant

Jake arrives at the chapel, and runs into Ryan [trust me,
they're both looking extremely fine]. Ryan asks where have
you been, Paulina's left you a ton of messages. Is she back
from my place yet? Jake asks. How'd you know she was there,
Ryan asks suspiciously. Jake laughs guiltily - Never ask a
cop to be your best man, he says; you don't want to know
where I was, take care of these rings, I'm going to look for
Paulina, everything will be just fine. Jake exits, leaving
Ryan holding the rings.

Vicky/Kirk

Vicky returns to Jake's house, carrying Kirk in his carrier.
[I never did figure out where they went or why, just that it
was lucky they did so Paulina wouldn't catch them.] Reality
sets in, and she starts crying. She flashes back to her
former reconciliation with Ryan [in Switzerland?], when he
promised that everything would be all right between them,
she didn't need to be afraid anymore. She promises Kirk
that they'll be happy, they deserve it, if they can just
hang on another 48 hours. Outside, Grant approaches the
front door.

Wedding Party

The Cory household is in mild chaos. Amanda enters, looking
for Grant. He left, he went to find Paulina, Maggie tells
her. Jake bursts in looking for Paulina. She's out looking
for you, Rachel answers. Brett wants to call Morgan. NO!
shouts Jake, scaring Rachel out of her skin - don't tie up
the line, use my phone instead, in case Paulina's trying to
call home. Maggie remembers that Paulina's car has been
stalling out on her; Jake worries that she may be stalled on
that long rural road with no phones, and insists on going
himself to rescue her (over Rachel's objections that one
missing guest of honor is enough). He exits; Did they have
another fight? asks Ryan. I don't know, Rachel answers, but
there's something weird going on here.

Paulina/Morgan

Paulina shows up at the clinic, looking for Jake [see
above], and asks Morgan why he called her. He gets her
signature on an order for medicine, and she promises to call
Cass and arrange things so orders can be processed without
her signature on every one.  She's still anxious about Jake;
Morgan teases her (with a straight face) that "You look so
calm." He assures her, she and Jake can make a two-career
marriage work if anyone can. Oh, no, she tells him, as soon
as their finances are in better shape, she intends to quit
her job and stay home to raise a family, assuming her groom
shows up. Morgan wishes her luck, and she exits. He picks
up a nearby teddy bear and tells it that Brett would never
quit, it would never work.

Meanwhile Paulina scurries out to her car and drives off in
a tizzy, not seeing the baby carrier in the back seat. When
she arrives home, she gets out of the car and sees the baby.
She opens the back door and gets in; she picks it up and
rocks it soothingly. FREEZE FRAME.

THE WEDDING HAPPENS
RYAN SEES VICKI :-)
LORETTA'S BACK
JOHN SURPRISES SHARLENE

*THE WEDDING*

It has happened .... it came off without a hitch. As they left us on
Monday, Paulina adds in her own words that one year ago she walked
out on
him but she wants to remember that, as she wants to remember
everything, even
the bad times so it makes the good even better. He was worried she
was
going to "deck" him again and he too says he will never take any
moment with
her for granted.

They exchange rings - nice short vows...and voila they are married.
Later
just before they go to the reception and they are alone they talk
about the
baby, love and other stuff .... he lays on the charm... nice romantic
scene.

Carl explains Rachel's absence at the reception by some story that
she had

to go but wishes all the best and for them to party on. (nobody seem
to be
worried or really care)

Near the end of the reception just prior to their leaving Jake gets a
really
nice letter from Marly that she has heard about how he has turned his
life
around and she wishes him the very best.

And just when they are about to leave, Paulina tells Jake that the
baby is
coming with them on the honeymoon. He puts up a bit of an argument
but it
ends up the baby is going with them.

And last but not least...DONNA (who did not even want to be a part of
the
group) catches the bridal bouquet.

RYAN / GRANT / VICKI

In summary, Vicki ends up calling Donna at the Cory's and asks about
Ryan.
She finally asks to put him on the phone and talks to him. She tells
him
how much she misses him....she wants to see and be with him. He says
he is
furious and is worried about Grant finding out. Just as they are
talking
Grant grabs the phone out of his hand. Vicki hangs up.

Later Bridgitte calls and leaves Ryan a message on how to go and join
Vicki.

Her message which is not all that clear is to go and meet her at the
train
tressel at 10:00.

Grant orders his agents to follow him and not to lose him no matter
what.

The show ends she is there waiting for him and worried that he will
not show
up. But of course he does, they see each other....FREEZE FRAME.

CARL / RACHEL / LORETTA

Rachel has left...all it said in the letter was the she had to go for
awhile, she had no choice. Ito announces to Carl that it may be his
fault
and that Rachel tricked him into telling her that he suspected that
it was
Evan Frame who was behind it all.

Rachel is gone to Loretta's and she needs her help. She explains the
whole
story behind Evan, Janice and how she ended up killing her in self
defense.

She says she wants to infiltrate where Evan used to work as a
secretary to
try and find out all about him. One of Loretta's ex-husbands runs a
temp help hiring agency and she gets him to agree to Rachel getting
an
interview to be able to work for him. Rachel comes out decked up in
short
skirt, knit sweater and even the glasses for that "classic" secretary
look.

Carl tells ito he has traced her to New York but mentions he is
worried that
what she may be doing could be dangerous.

MAGGIE and COMPANY

Jerry bugs Maggie to go out with him...she keeps trying to call
Tomas.

Angela lays on the sad pitiful routine really good and Tomas falls
for it
and asks her to go to the movies. Of course Maggie who cannot reach
Tomas
finally agrees to go out once with Jerry (probably to the movies of
course)

JOHN and SHARLENE

And now the best for last. At the reception, John and Sharlene talk
about
their wedding and he suggests they could do it all over again. He
even gets
down on one knee at one point and he proposes to her and she says
YES.

That is about it.

ROY
