Here is the [augmented] update for Another World for Friday, September 26,
1997:

Cass and Morgan drive out to pick up Charlie and Alli at camp, where
they've been for the past three months. When they arrive they see John
and Sharlene, apparently happily reconciled, who there to pick up Gregory
and Luisa. John, Morgan and Sharlene are heading for Chicago to join Rita
at her year-long medical convention, so they form a caravan and all drive
up together. When they arrive at the reception, Morgan's face lights up
when he spots Lorna - but she's busy trying to break up a heated argument
between Rita and Marshall. Rita takes a swing and slugs Marshall, who
stumbles backward and collides with a nun, knocking her into a pillar. As
the nun sinks to the floor, unconscious, Charlie recognizes her face -
it's Frankie! Everyone gathers around trying to revive her, stunned to
see their friend/niece/wife/mother alive and well. Neil, attending a law
enforcement symposium in an adjacent conference room, hears the commotion
and rushes in to investigate. They try to restrain Cass from tearing off
the nun's habit in search of a familiar birthmark...

And now, on with our story:

* Joe comes to Josie and Toni's rescue
* Kirk is released from the hospital
* Paulina confesses all to Vicky - another STELLAR performance for both
* Rachel gets suspicious of Nikos and Amanda; Felicia has doubts

CHIPPING AWAY

Josie's place - Josie and Toni huddle in the dark, peering out the
windows, trapped by Rayburn. Someone approaches - it's Joe to the rescue.
As the lights magically come back on, he reports that walking by he'd
heard something in the basement [they got a basement???], and found their
guard, Adams, tied up but unhurt. Josie discovers a threatening note that
Chip has managed to slip into her underwear drawer undetected, and gets
creeped out. As Joe searches the house, Josie and Toni deduce that Chip
is out for payback after their strongarm tactics in wringing the
confession from him. Joe says he'll have a team come over and scour the
house for any more signs of Rayburn. He suggests Josie call Gary in
Europe, but she refuses - Gary would only blow off his P.I. job and rush
back to go after Rayburn. She opens a kitchen drawer, and a spring-loaded
snake leaps out and startles her, another of Chip's sick jokes. While Joe
continues to search for and bag up evidence, Josie quietly expresses her
regrets to Toni about crossing the line with Rayburn. Toni is grateful
for her support through her whole rape/trial/manhunt experience, you're
the best friend I've ever had - you stopped me from killing Chip, we're in
this together. Joe returns and insists Josie move out until Gary returns,
and Toni offers to let her stay at the Burrell house. Joe escorts them to
the station house to file a report, as Chip spies from the bushes, still
disguised as a maintenance worker.

Station house - Josie and Toni beg Joe to give them their guns back,
so they can protect themselves and help recapture Rayburn. Joe has other
ideas. Apologizing for what he's about to do, he calls over Adams (who's
nursing a bump on his head after Chip's attack), and orders him to lock up
Josie and Toni in protective custody in - the holding cell! [Uh-oh,
they're dead meat now! What a joke - why not just strand them in a dark
alley?]

PLEASE RELEASE ME

Hospital - Vicky is wheeling Kirk down the corridor in his little
wheelchair, heading for the exit to take him home, when they "happen" to
run into Bob- er, Shane. She thanks him for arranging for a colleague in
Key West to monitor Kirk's condition during their vacation. Shane slips
in a few references to the rendezvous he and Vicky had before in Key West.
Tom'as [in search of a storyline] comes by to ask if he can wheel Kirk
around the ward to say goodbye to the friends he's made, and Vicky agrees.
Left alone, Shane tries to get Vicky to admit she still feels the same way
about him as she did in Key West, when they nearly... well, before Lila's
tricks split them apart - or else, why go back to the bungalow they'd
shared? Vicky insists she merely accepted Carl's offer to use his Florida
bungalow again, and not to read anything into it - she and Jake were meant
to be together, even though they haven't rescheduled their wedding yet.
Shane smugly suggests she's kidding herself. He spots Grant approaching,
and they duck into his office. He suggests Vicky sneak Kirk out the back
way, while Shane runs interference with Grant. As Vicky slips out [see
below], Shane confronts Grant, who's all puffed up about beating Donna in
the mayoral election [don't panic - he hasn't actually been sworn in yet,
a lot could happen...]. Shane, as smug as ever, informs Grant that Kirk
has been released, and as custodial parent Vicky can take him wherever she
likes. Grant snarls that he has an injunction to keep Vicky from leaving
town with Kirk. [By this time, Vicky and Kirk have arrived home already -
don't ask me how.] Shane smirks that he's Kirk's doctor: Kirk will get
proper care, wherever Vicky chooses to take him, leave me out of your
custody battle. Grant snorts that, as mayor-elect, he'll have no trouble
getting custody of Kirk. [more w/ Shane below]

Grant's limo - As Grant exits to go to his victory party, Cindy tries
to snuggle up to him and help plan his acceptance speech, but he rebuffs
her. She admits she'd been hoping their phony marriage would grow into
real love. The radio newscaster announces a landslide victory for
Gun-Boy, although Donna refuses to concede defeat. When he mentions that
Donna's daughter is awaiting the results at home, Grant realizes Vicky and
Kirk haven't left town yet [hmm - seems like shaky proof to me, like Donna
or the announcer are personally keeping track of Vicky's exact
whereabouts?]. He orders the driver to head for Vicky's house, despite
Cindy's protests. [see below]

GREEK SHUFFLE - PART 1

Nikos Suite [reminds me of Ryan's old penthouse] - Amanda has spliced
together a tape of Carl reading poetry and griping about the unseen
Hadley, to make it sound like he's sick of Rachel and is having an affair
with Hadley. As she gleefully plays the tape for Alex and they plan to
set up Rachel to "overhear" it, Felicia enters and catches them. Nikos
smoothly explains that Amanda came to ask his help in mending the rift
between Felicia and Rachel. He insists on escorting Amanda to her car
(what with that nasty rapist on the loose and all), and they exit.
Felicia paces uneasily, trying to suppress both her doubts about Nikos,
and her temptation to pour herself a nice snifter of Nikos' expensive
brandy...

Courthouse - Paulina has gotten her reckless endangerment hearing
moved up to spare Joe the embarrassment of publicly supporting his fat
criminal wife - but she does have Jake and Rachel with her. She'd plead
guilty and lost her driver's license, and she promises to pay Rachel back
for paying her fine, but just don't tell Joe... Jake and Rachel urge her
to level with Joe and stop beating up on herself. Jake insists on driving
her home so he can give her a pep talk; but Paulina wants to go to Vicky's
instead - Kirk is back home now [don't ask me how she knows this], and she
has a present for him [see below]. Suddenly they spot Nikos and a woman
approaching a limo; Jake guesses it's some bimbo, but Rachel recognizes -
it's Amanda. Rachel calls to her; caught (again), she brazenly comes over
to greet them. Jake needles her about her new liaison, and as a diversion
she blasts him for his editorial which endorsed Donna for mayor. Then she
storms back to Nikos, who helps her into the limo, and it drives away.
Rachel notes with disapproval that it's not the Cory limo - it's Nikos'.
[see below]

PAULINA'S CONFESSION

Vicky's house - As Jake and Paulina approach the house, Jake tells
Paulina he's proud of her for the way she's facing up to her problems. She
flashes back to the moment her car hit Kirk, and she begs Jake to cut the
phony praise. She suddenly feels like her visit and gift are pretty lame,
considering the damage she did. She tries to run, but Jake stops her and
assures her Kirk will love the visit and the cyber-pet gift. Steven
notices them from inside the house, and comes out to welcome them in.
Paulina sends Jake on ahead, so she can have a moment alone with Steven.
She hugs him and thanks him for calling 9-1-1 so quickly after the
accident, it probably saved her life as well as Kirk's. Vicky calls out,
and Steven brings Paulina into the house. Paulina returns Vicky's hug,
then kneels by Kirk, who is lying on the couch, his little head wrapped in
bandages covered by a Knicks cap. He mumbles something unintelligible to
her, which apparently hits her with a wave of guilt, and she flees to the
front porch in tears, wailing about how she doesn't blame them for not
trusting her anymore around Kirk. Vicky follows her out to the porch,
trying to reassure her; Jake soon joins them, but doesn't interfere. Vicky
points out that, if not for the accident, they wouldn't have found the
aneurism in time to save Kirk's life. That makes Paulina feel a little
better, but she still has a guilty secret to get off her chest. With great
difficulty, she finally gets it out that, at the time of the accident, she
was high on speed. Vicky is livid that she'd intended to chauffeur the
boys and her to Lassiter in that condition, and blames her for messing
herself up and then endangering Vicky's kids in a way she wouldn't have
risked Dante'. Amidst the recriminations and self-hatred, Jake steps in
and gently offers another perspective: in a way, the accident saved two
lives. Kirk's aneurism was discovered in time, and Paulina got a wake-up
call about her addiction. Paulina swears to Vicky she's in a program to
get the help she needs. Vicky's still reeling from the shocking
revelation, but as she calms down she remembers that Bridget used to say
everything happens for a reason (even though the reason may be hard to see
at the time). She embraces Paulina in forgiveness and recognition of her
true remorse. Paulina begs for another chance with Kirk, to give him a
present, and Vicky agrees. They go back inside; Jake and Vicky sit on the
step and listen, as Paulina dries off her face and sits by Kirk on the
couch. She gives him the present, which he loves, and she apologizes for
what she did. That's o.k., he says, Mom says parents make mistakes, too.
(Jake and Vicky share a glance.) Paulina, grateful that he seems to have
forgiven her, tells him she's going home to her own son. Vicky thanks her
for her candor and trying to make amends, and sends Jake out to take her
home. On the porch, Jake assures Paulina that Kirk will soon forget the
whole experience. I never will, she vows. They exit.
Vicky, Kirk and Steven are on the couch, trying to figure out the
cyber-pet, when they hear sirens approaching. Vicky goes out to see
what's happening, and Grant comes up and informs her it's a mayoral
escort. You and Donna are both losers tonight, he smirks, handing her the
injunction. He informs her, if she ignores the court order and takes Kirk
out of Bay City, she'll end up in jail. Cindy interrupts Grant to try to
lure him back to his victory party, but he tells her to MYOB, go wait in
the limo. Victoria, Cindy says pointedly, did Grant ever tell you why he
refused to have the blood test to determine if he could save Kirk's life?
HMMMMM???? Grant glares at her, as Vicky watches with interest.

AMANDA'S FOLLY

"Hadley's" Suite - Remember when Amanda went skulking off in Nikos'
limo with her spliced tape? Well, she ends up back at "Hadley's"
apartment, moping about how Hadley has all the fun and gets all the
romance and flowers and gifts, and Amanda don't get nuthin'. She decides
Hadley now wants to get Carl to leave his wife... She dresses up in her
Hadley outfit, complete with wig and makeup. [How come Alli hasn't
noticed her mother's strange behavior or frequent absences?] She arranges
the apartment for Rachel to discover, including a carefully placed book of
poetry, opened to a significant passage. She conceals the tape player,
then steps out in the hallway to test the remote. It works fine through
the semi-open door; she turns on some soft music, dims the lights, and
exits. She heads for the hotel bar, where she loiters to establish
Hadley's presence; she nearly panics when Shane enters and sits on the
stool beside her. She starts to leave, then apparently decides to test
her disguise. She returns and, in what she thinks is a sultry voice,
offers to buy him a drink. He does a double-take - do I know you from
someplace? he asks, studying her face carefully. She quickly turns away.

GREEK SHUFFLE, PART 2

Nikos' Penthouse - Nikos returns to Felicia, and senses she's
troubled. He assures her she has no cause to be jealous of Amanda, Amanda
has nothing he wants. He reminds her how strong their love is for each
other, how they share an equally passionate nature. He claims his life
was a waste until he found her, and she must believe they were meant to be
together. Apparently not noticing how deep it's getting in there, she
melts under his silvery words - then he says he has a surprise for her,
excitedly giving her a tour of the renovations he's been having done to
the penthouse. When they return to the living room, Felicia is thrilled
that Nikos has recreated a romantic room from one of her novels, to use as
her study. She admits she was late arriving because she'd been trying to
pick out just the right negligee for their first sleep-over. She pulls it
out of her overnight bag and shows it to him, and he can't wait to see her
wearing it.  She goes to the other room to change.  The doorbell rings;
Nikos answers it and finds Rachel standing there, seething. She enters,
and warns Nikos he'd better not be trying to seduce Amanda. Nikos insists
she's just interviewing him, she's too smart to be seduced. So is
Felicia, Rachel points out ironically - you've twisted Felicia's mind to
your whim, but don't you think she'll be suspicious of your constantly
hanging around with a much younger woman? Nikos suggests Carl has much
more to hide than he does. Rachel assures him that Carl has told her
everything about his past. Maybe not everything, Nikos hints - are you
really ready to hear the truth? Nikos tells Rachel, not only did Carl
know full well that Mrs. Nikos was in the line of fire the night she died
- he'd been having a long-term affair with her. He'd made her his whore,
Nikos growls menacingly. As Rachel tries to absorb this, Felicia returns
in her negligee and catches them glaring at each other. Rachel turns
away, and Felicia joins Nikos, gazing from one to the other for some clue
about what's going on [too late, Fanny, that yacht has sailed]. Fade to
black.

[SO - how long before the squad room is deserted, and Rayburn sneaks in
undetected to torment Josie and Toni? Any estimates?]

That should do it for another week - see y'all next time.
