>SUSPENDED!!!
>In light of Rayburn's breakout, and because he fears a further rogue
investigation, Joe suspends both Josie and Toni from the force. He asks for
their shields and weapons, which they reluctantly give after much protest.
They maintain even if the confession they coerced out of Rayburn is tossed
out, there is still plenty of evidence to convict Rayburn, but Joe says the
DA isn't convinced about the evidence and is highly suspicious of the
confession. If Rayburn hires a fancy lawyer and the methods by which the
cops came by the confession are made public, Rayburn will walk. Toni fears
a suspension on her record will end her career, but Joe says he is
suspending her because he doesn't want her going after Rayburn, not to end
her career. He tells the ladies that they will be paid during their
suspension, and it will go on their record as a vacation. He strongly warns
them that he will fire them if he finds them doing anything. He orders them
not to leave town, and if they have to be alone, make sure it is at home.
Joe posts unmarked police cars outside their homes as protection (and to
make sure they don't misbehave). Both protest further, but eventually they
leave. Josie heads home (see below), but Toni goes back into Joe's office
and says she needs to get on the phone to the governor...to free Nick Hudson.

>THE MANY FURTHER ADVENTURES OF HADLEY PRESCOTT...
>At Gary's house, Amanda tries to convince the private eye to investigate
Carl. He's having an affair. According to Nikos, which doesn't mean much,
Gary replies. Amanda says she has further proof of the existence of Carl's
paramour. Paramour, Gary asks? That means girlfriend, Amanda answers.
Then why don't you just say that, Gary complains. He has other things on
his mind since Rayburn escaped, like keeping Josie safe from the wacko and
making sure she doesn't vanish on him again. Amanda says she understands,
and that she will plaster the guy's face and picture all over the paper
until he is caught, [So much for not trying a guy in the press before he is
convicted in the courts. I mean *we* know he's guilty, but still...oh well,
anyhow...] but, in the meantime, could you at least check out the apartment
at Bay City Towers, she asks. Gary agrees, and the two depart. Amanda
heads over to the aforementioned apartment and admires her disguise (heavy
eye makeup, fake lashes, a slinky silk nighty and cover up, and really
chunky high heel shoes). Then she starts writing in a "diary" on a laptop
computer about how she can't live without her "beloved Carl" and how she
calls his house "just to hear his voice" but hangs up when Rachel answers.
Reminded of this, she tries to call, but the phone is busy. [The Corys are
too cheap for call waiting? Hmm...] Meanwhile, Carl is on the phone at the
Cory mansion making business calls. The phone rings again. Rachel picks it
up and no one speaks (because it's Amanda as Hadley). Carl takes the phone
and demands that the cowards speak as he can hear the person. Amanda slams
the phone down. Steven rushes in and asks if it's his mom calling about
Kirk, and is disappointed to hear it isn't. The boy asks to go to the
hospital, and Carl says he will take him. Rachel proclaims that the hangs
ups must cease, and Carl promises to put a trace on the phone in the
morning. Rachel goes to get Carl's jacket and overhears him telling someone
on the phone that the person can't call Carl at home. (Carl's getting a
portrait made for Rachel and wants her to be surprised, but what Rachel
overheard will, of course, be misinterpreted.)

>THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON...
>Lila, who is buying herself flowers to celebrate her birthday, bumps into
Matt on the street. He's asking for a quarter to make a phone call-his cell
phone just died. [Waaah...] Lila notes that someone who can afford a cell
phone doesn't need a quarter from her [too right!!], but he explains that if
he goes to the ATM and gets cash and then gets change...well, it will all
take far too long, and this is a really important call. Lila gives him the
quarter and rushes off. Matt calls the office and, when he finds out Amanda
isn't there, wonders where his sister is. He also catches a peak at the
Herald and has a good laugh at Donna's expense.

>THE SEACH FOR THE CURE CONTINUES...
>Nick appears to be getting better, and Kirk seems to be growing worse.
Shane thinks he has to take a chance on giving the experimental drug to
Kirk. Grant objects repeatedly, but Shane convinces him that the drug is
Kirk's only chance, so Grant shuts up (for about 20 seconds). Shane makes
some complicated calculations about the ratio of milligrams of drug to
kilograms of weight based on Nick. Grant starts screaming again, and Vicky,
Jake and Donna tell Grant to zip it. Shane measures out the drug and
injects it into Kirk's IV and then throws everyone out in the hall. Grant
paces, and Lila shows up. They talk briefly until a man (here after
referred to as the Annoying Subpoena Man or ASM) shows up and attempts to
serve Lila with papers (thinking she is Vic). Lila protests to Grant that
this isn't the time to serve Vicky and Shane with the papers to contest her
divorce from Shane. Grant tells the ASM to leave. The guy gets miffed and
leaves. Grant tries to get into his son's room again, but Jake stops him.
Shane comes out and tells the assembled family that Kirk is fighting back
and will pull through [gee that was fast]. Everyone rejoices, including
Steven and Carl, who arrive as Shane is telling the others the good news.
Shane allows Vicky and Grant to go in to see Kirk. ("Parents only" Shane
tells Jake, who doesn't put up a fuss, though Grant bristles at it since he
thinks Kirk isn't really his son thanks to Cindy. See, she does have her
uses; besides, Kirk is Ryan's son, we all know that!!) Meanwhile, Lila
gives Shane his old log book so he can make notes about his patients, a
practice he used to do before the murder trial and his years on the run.
Shane thanks Lila, and she departs to continue her birthday celebration.
Carl thanks Shane for saving Kirk and remarks that Vicky must surely love
him now more than ever and to not give up on that love. Shane shrugs and
reminds Carl that, but for Kirk's hospitalization, Vic would already be
married to Jake. Vic goes to tell Nick and Sofia that Kirk will be OK,
which makes them both very happy. She then returns and tells Jake and
Steven that when Kirk gets better, they will get out of town. Grant hears
this and pitches a fit at Vicky and Jake, who have to hold Steven back
before the boy decks Grant in the knee caps (or worse). The three take off,
and the ASM comes back and asks for his money, and Grant, severely annoyed
and no longer in ear shot of Lila, tells him he can serve Vicky and Shane to
keep Vicky from leaving town. Meanwhile, Vicky repeatedly thanks Shane for
saving Kirk. The relieved mom asks if she can stay with the boy, but Shane
tells her to go home and get some sleep. Carl calls Rachel and tells her
the good news about Kirk and promises to return home soon. Back in Nick's
room, Nick prepares to go back to prison. When Joe shows up, Sofia begs for
more time, but Joe tells her to relax. Toni comes in, and Joe informs Nick
that he will get a police escort...back to his house. Toni talked to the
governor and convinced him that Nick is innocent of the rapes, so he is now
a free man. Michael, Toni and Joe leave. Nick and Sofia rejoice.
>
>BIRTHDAY BLUES..
>Lila eats a piece of rich cake at the Harbor Club to celebrate her
birthday. Grant shows up and makes some small talk with the Southern Belle.
She thanks Grant for not serving Vicky and Shane with the papers, as she is
trying hard to be friends with Shane. Grant gets up and leaves when Shane
shows up. They agree to be friends, and Shane wishes her a happy birthday
(now that he finally remembered). The ASM comes back and attempts to serve
Shane with the papers, but Grant stops him once again, telling him to serve
both Shane and Vicky tomorrow. [If I were this guy, I'd be strangling Grant
about now...]
>
>IN OUR RESPECTIVE HOMES...
>Amanda, now in her Hadley wig, prances around the apartment. The intercom
buzzes, so she picks it up and learns someone is headed up with a package.
She tells the doorman to send the person up. When she opens the door, she
sees it's Gary and slams the door in his face. OK Amanda, Gary mutters,
maybe you are on to something. Gary leaves and heads home where he finds
Josie. He asks about the unmarked car outside the house, and Josie tells
him about the suspension, complaining that she is practically under house
arrest while Rayburn is running around free. Meanwhile, at the Cory
mansion, Matt returns home and receives an embrace from his mom. Amanda
soon arrives and is overjoyed to see her brother. Back at Vicky's cottage,
Jake and Vicky sit in her living room trying to rest. Jake thanks God for
saving Kirk. Vicky (who is not asleep, but in fact awake) tells Jake to
thank Him on her behalf as well.

>THAT ROTTENESS YOU SMELL IS EMINATING FROM THE EAST...
>Somewhere in Detroit, Rayburn sits in a bar drinking and looking at the
torn picture of Bay City's own Thelma and Louise. He makes a big black X
with a Sharpie pen across their faces as the radio announces that he has
escaped.
