JOE/PAULINA

Joe and Paulina have an intense discussion about what a close call Gabe had,
and how it is all part of the danger a cop faces every day. Paulina is all
nervous and upset thinking about what might have happened to Joe, and what
still might happen. Joe tries to reassure her, saying that the good life he
shares with her and Dante is more than enough to keep him careful.

RAFAEL/MAGGIE/SOPHIA/MATT

Rafael drags Maggie to Sassy's, ready to do the town and have some fun, but
Maggie is reluctant, fearing the ridicule of people who have heard about how
her scheme was exposed. She tells Rafael about how everyone at school is
having fun at her expense. Rafael persuades her to come in anyway. Maggie
immediately runs into Sophia, who is there with Matt. Maggie asks Sofia if
she wouldn't like to slap her again, but Sofia is calm and without rancor.
Later, Sofia and Matt talk about how overprotective Joe still is. Rafael's
sleazy counterfeiter crony is at the bar, skunk-drunk, and he begins taking
pot shots at Maggie, saying how low can you go, faking a pregnancy, etc.
Rafael plays Mr. Big Man and drags the guy out of there, then pays him off and
says "Nice acting job." Rafael comes back in and Maggie is impressed at how
nicely Rafael defended her.

DONNA/MICHAEL/some guy named LEONARD

Donna and Michael are having lunch at Carlino's. Michael still can't believe
that Donna told Vicky she wouldn't be with him if he were the last man on
earth. The conversation gets around to their many marriages (to each other),
and they agree that they do fine as long as they stay away from the altar.
Donna decides to write out a contract on a paper napkin that they will never
get married again, and she and Michael both sign it. A stuffy-looking older
man walks in and gets a table. Donna says that is Leonard, he's on the hospital
board and he's been after her for years, she'll go over and put in a plug for
Michael as the new Chairman of the hospital board....

SHARLENE/GRANT/JOHN/GREGORY

In one of the hospital rooms, Grant is getting ready to be released. Sharlene
has offered him a ride home. Gregory asks Grant if he is going to kill them
too, just like he did his brother? Sharlene is appalled. John smirks.
Sharlene takes Gregory aside and finds out that Greg learned the truth about
Ryan from Steven. Sharlene tells Greg that it's impolite to keep bringing up
Ryan's death, that sometimes grownups make mistakes that can't be undone,
but
they're still sorry. Gregory is unconvinced -- he wants to know if Grant is
coming home with them. Sharlene says no, he isn't. John takes Sharlene
aside
and gives her heck about hanging around a convicted killer. Sharlene defends
Grant and says he's changed. John adamantly says that under no
circumstances
is Greg ever to be left alone with Grant. Sharlene points out that she's asked
the same thing regarding Greg ever being left alone with Felicia. John says
he's okay with that, but at least Felicia never kidnapped her children or shot
her siblings. John asks what lessons will Greg take away from his mother's
obsession with Grant? Sharlene says it will teach him about the importance
of forgiveness...

JOSIE/GARY/GABE/LORNA

Josie and Gary come to visit Gabe's bedside to thank him -- he took a bullet
for them, and they're very grateful. Gabe tries to protest that he just did
it because he had a better shot at Mercer, but Gary is unconvinced. Lorna
says that the next time Gabe is planning on taking a bullet for someone, he'd
better check with her first -- black is not her color. Gabe lovingly tells
her she'd look good in a gunny sack. Later, Lorna is alone with Gabe in the
room, and he pretends to be asleep so that she will go home and get some rest
herself, but she catches him at it, and tells him that the hospital is going
to be home to both of them until he gets better. Gabe talks a little about
the dangers of a cop's life, and his memory of how when his father was killed,
his mother and his father's partner just sobbed in each other's arms. Lorna
tells him that someday, she wants him to tell her all about his relationship
with his father. Gabe promises he will. Later, Gabe finally falls asleep
for real, and Lorna takes off her shoes and curls up in bed next to him.

SHARLENE/GRANT/JOSIE/GARY/JOHN

As Sharlene and Grant are leaving, a photographer pops up and wants to take
a picture of Grant. Just at that moment, Josie and Gary walk by and the
photographer begs for a shot of Josie, Gary and Grant together. Grant beams
and says that's fine with him. Josie is very uncomfortable and says to her
mother that Ryan was her best friend, he was the reason she joined the force.
Josie and Gary beat a hasty retreat. John can't resist saying to Sharlene
how he can't help noticing that Grant spreads sunshine wherever he goes...

FELICIA/CINDY/JOHN

Felicia is still frantically searching for her engagement ring in John's
office. Cindy walks in and Felicia enlists her help. They still haven't
found it when John walks in and finds both of them crawling around on the
floor. Cindy makes up a story about how she lost a contact lens, and leaves.
John asks Felicia out to dinner at Carlino's.

DONNA/MICHAEL/LEONARD/GRANT/SHARLENE/JOHN/FELICIA/GREGOR
Y

At Carlino's, Donna comes back to the table and informs Michael that she's
worked her magic, he has the Chairmanship all sewn up. Just then Grant
and Sharlene walk in, and Grant immediately starts glad-handing Leonard.
Dontcha know, Leonard thinks it would be a great idea if Grant took over the
position as Hospital Board Chairman -- after all, he has so many connections.
Sharlene thinks it's a wonderful idea. Michael and Donna listen in, appalled.
Donna points out that Leonard wants to be everybody's friend. Michael says
it would never happen, just think of what would happen if John had to work
with Grant every day! John and Felicia come in and get a table. John wants
to celebrate their engagement, and not keep it a secret any longer. He asks
Felicia to put on her ring. Felicia looks stricken, and makes some excuse
about how she would really prefer to wait on the announcement, after all, she
hasn't even told Lorna about the engagement yet. They start talking about
Grant and Gregory, and John reassures himself that his son has a good head
on his shoulders, he's not going to be taken in by Grant. Cut to a shot of
Gregory in his bedroom throwing darts, with a picture of Grant pinned to the
dartboard....

JOSIE/GARY

Josie and Gary come home. Josie is still haunted by memories of pointing her
gun at Fax and being unable to shoot. Gary encourages her to let it all out,
but Josie says that the fear is still stuck somewhere inside her. She worries
that Gabe is never going to give her her gun back, and Gary reassures her that
it's not so, she'll get her gun back and be better than ever. Josie wants
Gary to make love to her, but when he starts to, she can't go on, and asks
him to just hold her instead. Gary says that he'll be there for her in
whatever way she needs him to be. They snuggle under the covers, but Josie
can't fall asleep, and the last shot is of her face, tense and wakeful.....
