Hope everyone had a happy Labor Day holiday! Here is the
update for Another World for Friday, September 2, 1994:

Catharsis in the Country; Fun at the Fair; Intrigue at the
Office

* John & Sharlene reach an understanding
* Tom'as and Maggie reach an understanding
* Frankie gets the scoop on Doyle; Cass has a conniption
* Lorna gives Evan big ammunition
* Carl and Rachel prepare for battle

Frankie/Ryan/Cass/Doyle

Frankie is still dressed like a gypsy fortune teller for the
auction fair. She convinces Ryan that Doyle is a liar, and
is about to confront Doyle as a fortune teller, when Cass
appears. He chews out Ryan for putting the mother of his
child in danger, and tries to drag her home. Frankie digs
in her heels and gives him a spooky look. She refuses to
let him make her feel guilty about working undercover while
her daughter waits at home. She tells him to amuse himself
for a while, and she dashes off after Doyle. Cass turns
back on Ryan again for once more putting Frankie in peril
(based on past history...). Ryan tries to reassure him, but
Cass insists on coming along, "or I'll blow your cover sky-
high." He takes off after Frankie, and Ryan can only
follow. Cass and Ryan duck behind an empty food cart to
observe. Frankie accosts Doyle and tells him she has a
message for him from the Great Beyond. He tries to brush
her off, until she gets a flash about his marriage. He
grabs her wrist, and it's all Ryan can do to restrain Cass
from leaping to her rescue. She gives Doyle a spooky look,
and pries his hand off her wrist by reading his palm. She
says she sees big bucks involved but not police work, and
asks if he knows someone of great wealth and power. Cass is
very antsy, and Ryan holds him back by saying this could be
the key to unraveling the mystery and getting him reinstated
on the force. Doyle eventually gets spooked and gives
Frankie a couple of $5 bills to get rid of her. She tells
him he's a good man at heart, but he's the only one who can
change things. He flees, and Cass and Ryan join Frankie.
Cass chews out Frankie for scaring him to death. She thinks
it's charming that he was so worried, and kisses him. Then
she tells Ryan she doesn't know if Doyle set him up, but he
has a big cocaine habit and also works for some high roller.
Ryan says he knew Doyle had a drinking problem, but didn't
know he was into drugs. Frankie says he was obviously
"jonesing for a toot" as they spoke, she could see it in his
eyes, skin, etc. She hands Ryan the $5 bills and recommends
they be checked for traces of cocaine. Thanks a million,
says Ryan. Anytime, Frankie replies. No, not anytime, says
Cass; Frankie's the best at this kind of work, but she's
also a mother now, and I don't want her hanging around the
kind of drug-crazed characters who even know what "jonesing"
is. Frankie says she's taking Cass home now, and tells Ryan
to call her with news on Doyle. Don't bother, Cass says
icily. Ryan says next time he'll call someone else. Sure,
says Cass, you'd hire Charlie and send her out in a wired
pram. Ryan promises to call Ian if he needs more help.
Cass admits Frankie's the best sleuth around, and tells her
to charge Ryan triple for his "Destiny on the Docks" routine
- plus extra for stress-related injury - "mine." Frankie
suddenly decides Charlie needs her, and drags Cass toward
home. As they go, he continues to make his case for her to
use more caution. Ryan just shakes his head and smiles.
Later, he calls Ian from a pay phone and tells him to start
tailing Doyle tomorrow - he may be involved in the set-up,
or even lead them to whoever wants Carl dead.

Tom'as/Angela/Luisa/Maggie

Tom'as and Angela have Luisa for the evening, and they take
her to the waterfront fair.  Tom'as spots Maggie with Jerry;
Angela sees his hurt look and says it'll be easier for him
when he gets the job at KBAY and doesn't see Maggie so much.
Suddenly Luisa spots Maggie and runs to her. Maggie hugs
her with delight, then locks eyes with Tom'as. Angela
fumes, and makes sure Maggie feels like an intruder. Maggie
goes off with her date, and Angela takes Luisa for cotton
candy while Tom'as flashes back to intimate times with
Maggie (the "prom" he gave her, and the night of his
birthday, just before his wedding day, when he asked her to
wait for him). Tom'as and Maggie run into each other alone,
and Tom'as asks why she's been so cool toward him [duh...!].
She says she saw him in a clinch with Angela at KBAY, they
looked very cozy. He explains he was comforting her because
she was upset by telling Felicia about being an unwed
mother, but he doesn't love her, he still loves Maggie, and
he asks if she'll still wait for him. She says she decided
it was worth waiting for, and coyly tells him she's going
home to take a cold shower. He smiles as she exits. He
returns to Angela and Luisa, but out of the corner of his
eye he catches Maggie giving him a seductive smile as she
passes by with Jerry. Angela tells Tom'as that she's
grateful for this chance to get to know her little girl as a
real person, not just an abstraction. He starts to get a
clue that Maggie may be right, Angela may not be so willing
to give Luisa up once they get custody.

John/Sharlene

John sits cradling a wet, shivering Sharlene in his arms by
the lake, after her regression episode in the water. She
tells him she's now dealt with all of the demons of her
past, she's finally ready to love him back. They start to
kiss, more and more intensely. She says she wants them to
make love; but he doesn't want to rush things, she still has
a lot to work through. She insists she's ready to put the
past behind her now and move on with her life; his love
survived through Kate, Sharly, and all her psychoses, and
she's sure they can be together now. John is still
reluctant to move too fast, but Sharlene assures him she
feels in control and liberated from her past. She begs him
to let her express her love, and they start to kiss and
embrace passionately. She unbuttons his shirt as he kisses
her, but suddenly it's too much for her and she turns away
in tears. He puts his arms around her and tries to console
her. He sits and holds her until she's done crying. She
wonders what she could have cone as a child to deserve
having her life destroyed for so long. She apologizes for
the pain she caused John; Gregory doesn't even know her; and
poor Kelsey got caught in the middle. As they look up at
the sky, John says their future looks much better than the
past, and they'll have as many moments together as there are
stars in the sky, to make up for all they've missed.
Sharlene says she isn't scared anymore. John salutes her
courage in facing her traumatic past, and promises they'll
make love when the time is right. Take me home, she asks
him. You are home, he answers. They kiss.

Rachel/Carl

Rachel and Carl are stunned by the senseless destruction of
the Oriental sculpture, delivered to them anonymously.
Rachel tries to quash Carl's suggestion that this was a
declaration of war, but Carl insists that their anonymous
stalker is proving that Carl and everything he loves are
vulnerable; this is a personal challenge, and the Corys
could get caught in the fallout unless Carl stops him. He
tells her that the person who sent them the sculpture shards
is probably the one who had him shot, sent him the
counterfeit bill when no one knew where they were, and set
up Ryan to get him off the case. Rachel tries to convince
him he doesn't have to play this guy's game, he has nothing
to prove. "Nothing to prove, but everything to protect," he
answers; if he doesn't respond, Rachel wouldn't like what
would happen to their lives. He explains that if he ignores
the challenge, the threats won't stop, they'll get worse.
Rachel says it sounds like she has no choice but to let him
play "High Noon" or her family could be in danger. He
apologizes, he was truly through with his nefarious past,
but apparently it wasn't through with him. Rachel is very
agitated, and says she has to go back to the festival to
accept the check for the charity (see below). Carl tells
her they're partners, and he won't do anything without her
knowledge and approval. She reluctantly agrees. They
embrace, wary about their future together. Later, Carl
sprawls on the couch, cradling Rachel in his arms. He
promises that they'll get through this, but Rachel doesn't
want any promises he can't keep. He urges her to trust him,
but she fears for their future when the game is over.

Evan/Lorna/Trent

Sitting along at D&M Studio (sorry, I meant Arlington
Agency), Evan chugs a shot of whiskey as he gazes at the
photo of Amanda (with Grant and Alli) that he swiped from
the auction fair. Lorna knocks at the door and demands
entrance. Evan pockets the photo and lets her in. She's
miffed that the door was locked - tell Trent to get me a
key, she says. Then she smugly announces she has the key to
Amanda's heart in her briefcase, if he's interested. She's
developed the perfect ad campaign for Amanda, designed to
take advantage of her preoccupation with the image of Mac
Cory. Evan protests that it's Iris, not Amanda, who has the
"daddy fixation," but Lorna convinces him Amanda is insecure
whether she can measure up, having to follow in the sainted
Mac Cory's footsteps as CEO. Amanda would be theirs - "or,
should I say, yours" - if they could show her how to get
make's approval and make him proud of her. Lorna's ad
proposal is a literacy campaign, in the Mac Cory tradition
of helping people, which will mean big bucks and big
publicity for Amanda - Mac was sincere, while Amanda just
wants the glory, but she won't be able to resist. Evan is
very impressed; he asks her to wait while he makes a few
phone calls. On his way upstairs, he meets Trent coming in.
Trent, whispering, reports mission accomplished, Carl
received the statue smithereens. Evan goes up to use the
phone, and Lorna ambles over to Trent and asks idly when's
the last time Evan had a woman. He tells her that Evan has
lots of beautiful women, but none stay long, and none stay
overnight. Evan returns, and turns on the TV to watch
Rachel accept the charity check at the auction fair. She
thanks all the donors, and introduces Carl for a special
announcement. Carl tells about the anonymous source who
gave $10,000 for an object he didn't even want. Lorna
wonders what Carl's up to, but Evan shushes her. Carl goes
on that he's taking that donation as a personal challenge:
Carl will double the donation, giving $20,000, providing it
is earmarked for keeping the criminal element out of our
city, out of our area, and out of our lives. Evan smirks.

Later, after Lorna has left, Evan picks up the folder
containing the new ad campaign, kisses it, and locks it in
his briefcase. He picks it up and heads for the door as
Trent descends from the upper office. Trent wonders how
Evan can be so calm, after Carl just accepted his challenge
on TV. Evan grins: "This is the reason I came home - let
the games begin!" They head out the door. FREEZE FRAME.

As ever,

Tomas & Angela kept Luisa overnight. Tomas was telling Luisa a
story and Angela tries to butt in. Then she takes Luisa into the

other room and makes her cry when she tells her that Maggie

is gone and she will be the one around now. Tomas yells at Ang and
tells her that Luisa wasn't ready to find out about him and Ang being
her parents. Angela then took off to see Mrs. Shaw and bragged
up their morning with Luisa and said that she wants Mrs. Shaw to talk
to Tomas about telling Luisa that they are her parents. Mrs. Shaw
agrees. Mags talks to Tomas about enrolling in classes at BCU. They
agree to try to get into the same English Comp class. Later Maggie
leaves a note for Tomas under the door which Angela finds. She
laughs
about Maggie trying to give Tomas her class info and says Tomas will
be
too busy for her.

Doyle, the bad cop, shows up at Evan's looking for more money. Evan
is getting ticked but gives him some and tells him not to come back
again. Evan calls Amanda to reschedule the meeting they had arranged
for an earlier time. Amanda agrees although Rachel worries about it.
Carl knows Rachel is worried so he attends the meeting also, much to
Evan and Amanda's surprise. Amanda and Carl love the proposal which
Arlington has come up with. Evan credits Lorna and later tells
Amanda
that Lorna isn't too hard on the eyes either.

Ryan and Ian are planning on keeping an eye on Doyle. Ryan leaves
for
the Cory's and Ian talks to his friend on the pier. The lady from
the
pier gives Ian an earful on Doyle. Ryan quizzes Rachel about what
Carl
is up to but she doesn't tell him anything. Ryan then gets the
lowdown
on Doyle from Ian. He goes back to the Cory's and tells Rachel that
he
is really still on the case. Rachel tells him it is too dangerous to
work alone when Carl walks in and says him and Ryan will work
together.
