Here is the Update for Another World for Friday, September
30, 1994:

Felicia Lassos a Big One
Marshall Almost Reveals an Emotion
Jake Keeps a Secret (Surprise, Surprise)
Donna Comes to Her Senses
Lorna Gets Some Clues
Ryan Gets a Call
AND - No Grant, Amanda, Evan, or Angela in Sight!

Donna/Matt/Paulina/Jake

While Paulina's lingerie shower continues out at the gazebo
at the Cory's, Donna slips away to the house. She paces
around the living room, fiddling with her purse and her
watch, and Matt enters and catches her. He wants to know
what she's hiding: "I know it's against your religion, but
why don't you tell me the truth?" He guesses that she's
waiting for a call from Vicky, and reminds her she always
feels better after she levels with him. He notices how
tightly she's clutching her purse, and wants to see what's
in it, but she grabs it away. A muffled phone is heard -
must be for you, he says, your bag is ringing. He gives her
some privacy to answer it, and encounters Paulina coming in
through the terrace doors looking for something to eat more
substantial than watercress. Donna finishes up and tells
them she has to take care of some business. She sidesteps
Matt's skeptical questioning by telling Paulina she has the
receipt for the teddy she gave her, in case it's not her
style.  "Donna has one just like it,"  Matt tells her;
Paulina giggles. Matt tries to go with Donna, but she
insists he stay and help Paulina gather up her gifts. She
heads for the door, and encounters Jake arriving to pick up
Paulina. He waylays her, saying he wants all the dirt on
the shower, and no one dishes it better than Donna. Donna
manages to wriggle out of his grasp and exit (see below).
Matt goes to start brining in Paulina's loot. Paulina tells
Jake she's going back to the gazebo to thank her friends for
the shower and say goodbye; she promises him a fashion show
at home, but she also asks about the business meeting he
supposedly had about his book. After she exits, Jake winces
guiltily. Later, they return home with the pile of
presents. Jake starts tearing open boxes and leering over
the contents, but Paulina insists on hearing about the
meeting he's been trying to avoid mentioning. (He flashes
back to his visit from the mystery woman in black stockings
and spiked heels.) Paulina guesses that Jake was looking
for backing for his book (she doesn't want to know who
from), but the terms were unacceptable so he turned it down,
and she's so proud of him. He goes along with it, letting
her think she's right, and they go on to more romantic
pursuits.

Cass/Frankie/Marshall/Dana/Walter

As Marshall continues to search Felicia's bedroom, Cass
becomes impatient with Frankie for wasting time on the
Romance Festival registration list. This was your idea, she
reminds him, and it's all we've got right now; take a walk,
blow off steam if you want, but I'm not stopping until I
call everyone on this list. He starts for the door, but
stops as she makes her first call. It happens to be to
"Penelope Windsor," the name Walter registered under, with
his home number. Walter, about to bring Felicia another
tray (see below), relocks the door and goes back to answer
his phone (which seldom rings). Frankie asks to speak to
Penelope about Felicia, did she happen to notice Felicia
leaving the festival? Walter just mutters that Penelope
isn't here; Frankie tries to leave her name and number, but
Walter hangs up on her. How rude, says Frankie; Cass snaps
again that it's a waste of time - I may not be a psychic,
but my opinion should count for something. Marshall emerges
from the bedroom with Felicia's journal which he's just
read; Felicia would rake me over the coals if she knew I'd
read this stuff, he says - no clues here, but I'd give
anything to have her here screaming at me again. Frankie
starts to make another call, then gets a psychic flash that
Felicia's in danger. Later, she finishes the list - no
leads. Cass has changed his mind, he's sure the list is
important, he wants to take Frankie and track down everyone
local that she didn't talk to personally. He's also sure,
despite Marshall's doubts, that Felicia didn't have her boa
in Chicago, and it's absence from her apartment is
important. Cass and Marshall snap at each other
impatiently, then apologize, and Cass and Frankie start off
on their quest. Marshall stays to wait for whoever might
call. The doorbell rings; he opens the door to find D.A.
Daughter Dana, and asks if she's here with word from the
cops about Felicia. Nothing new from Bay City or Chicago,
she says, but they might get more help by going public.
Marshall doesn't want her picture splashed across the media,
but Dana reminds him that she's already a famous talk show
host. This upsets him even more - she's famous enough that
if she were out there she'd be recognized, but they don't
have a single clue! (The camera ironically focuses in on
Walter's lost button, still under Felicia's desk.) Dana
asks Daddy if his concern isn't more than professional. He
admits he's gotten to know Felicia pretty well after going
through all her personal papers, closets, etc. ("That's
closer than you've gotten to most of your own family," Dana
observes), but it's not in his nature to spill his guts. I
won't make you say it, says Dana, I can tell how much you
care for Felicia, a person would have to blind not to see
it. She hugs him; he seems surprised, but hugs her back.

Walter/Felicia

At "Wacko Walter's Funhouse" (a.k.a., Mother's place),
Felicia has managed to pry the leg off a chair and is
waiting behind the door for Walter to enter, so she can club
him and make her escape. Walter unlocks the door and starts
in, but goes back down when the phone rings (see above).
After Frankie's call, he brings the tray back up. Once
again, Felicia is waiting - she clonks him over the head,
and he and the tray go flying. He lies motionless, and
she's alarmed that he may be seriously hurt; as she fishes
the keys out of his jacket pocket, he suddenly grabs her
wrists and struggles with her as she screams and fights for
her life. As they wrestle on the floor, Felicia manages to
reach the club again and give Walter another whack. This
time he stays down. She tries several keys and finally
finds the one that will let her out; she escapes to the
stairwell and locks Walter in from the outside. Only
slightly relieved, she goes down the stairs and finds
another door at the bottom. She fumbles again with the keys
until she discovers with dismay that the bottom door doesn't
open with a key; it has an electronic lock that needs an
entry code. Damn you, Walter, she snarls, damn you, damn
you. She tries a few random codes with no luck; nearly in
tears, she realizes the only way out will be to get the code
from Walter. She goes back up, finds his wallet in his
other pocket, and tears it apart - but doesn't find the
code. He moans, and she decides to tie him up. She notices
she's still wearing the Ace bandage around her ankle, so she
rips it off and uses it to truss him up like a calf at a
rodeo. She throws a glass of water in his face to wake him
up: "Looks like you're my prisoner now - how does it feel?"
She demands the code to the lock, but he just bemoans her
bizarre behavior, and begs her to return to the sweet,
gentle soul he admires. She reminds him she didn't just
write love scenes, she also wrote daring rescues, and she
can make things very rough for him if he doesn't cooperate.
She gives him one last chance; he just urges her not to
disappoint her fans. She calls him a maniac for kidnapping
her, but he doesn't get it - he insists that it's she who's
lost her true soul. She threatens to whack him again, but
he's sure she has too sweet a spirit to use violence against
him. Suddenly they hear the doorbell ring from downstairs.
Felicia looks hopeful for a moment - I'm getting my sweet
spirit the hell out of here, you twisted s.o.b., she
scrambles downstairs and starts pounding on the still-locked
stairway door, screaming for help, as Walter angrily
struggles to free himself from his Ace bonds. Outside, Cass
and Frankie are hoping "Penelope" has returned, but no one
answers the doorbell or their calls. They start to leave,
when Frankie thinks she hears a faint scream - then silence.

Ryan/Lorna/Donna/Matt

Ryan has closed the Daily Grind to do some maintenance and
repair work. As he works, he flashes back to his rendezvous
with Vicky under the train trestle in the snow. Lorna
enters with a large carton, filled with letters - Felicia's
fan mail for just the last 3 weeks. She asks Ryan to help
her go through it for clues. She's obviously distraught,
and Ryan holds her to comfort her. She pulls herself
together - falling apart won't help, besides I have a
reputation to uphold. Ryan sees through her bravado, and
suggests they play post office - that is, sort all those
letters into a fan-letter pile and a hate-mail pile. Lorna
comes across one that says "You've really let us down...I'd
start looking over my shoulder if I were you" - and they
realize they need a third pile for real sickos. Ryan makes
coffee, and Lorna reads him a touching letter she finds from
a man whose wife of 25 years just died; during her final
illness he used to read to her from Felicia's romances, and
he's grateful for the peace and enjoyment Felicia had
provided for his wife in her final days. Lorna wonders what
the chances are that Felicia will be found o.k.; Ryan
admits, the longer a person is missing, the slimmer the
chances. After going through all the letters, they come up
with 5 that represent significant weirdos. She thanks him
for being so sweet, and hugs him gratefully as Donna enters
and observes the scene. Lorna heads off to take the 5
letters to Frankie, making a snide comment to Donna on her
way out. Donna again chides Ryan for letting Lorna cozy up
to him, and tells him to get cleaned up, Vicky will call him
here within the hour. He refuses to get cleaned up for a
phone call, he's tired of being jerked around and he's ready
to move on. Donna insists she knows Vicky can't live
without him, he's about to get the call he's been waiting
for, she's counting on his coming to his senses once he
hears her voice, don't blow it. I've done all I can, she
says, the rest is up to you. She blows him a kiss and
exits. He mutters that if is happens to be here when the
phone rings, he'll talk to her; if not, then not. But his
gaze is drawn to the phone on the bar. Donna rushes back to
the Cory mansion and swoops down on Matt - she needs a
favor, she wants him to hang out by the Daily Grind for the
next hour or so and distract Lorna if she happens to come
back while Ryan and Vicky's future hangs in the balance.
Matt tells her she should back off and leave it up to fate -
you and I didn't have an easy time of it, he reminds her,
but we made it on our own, and so should they, if they're
meant to be together nothing will keep them from finding
each other. Donna is floored by his take on the situation,
and realizes he's right. She relaxes, and they get
romantic. Meanwhile, as Ryan finishes up his work for the
day, the phone rings. It's just someone asking if they're
open; he hangs up, and is about to leave in disgust, when it
rings again. He picks it up, but doesn't say anything. A
breathy voice whispers, "Ryan" -- "Vicky?" Ryan answers.
Yes, the camera reveals a closeup of Jensen's face (oops, I
mean Vicky) -- FREEZE FRAME.

As ever,

(The Other) Vicky (vkorosei@midas.sinclair.edu)
